Using Vellum for Cardz 4 Galz #194 and the Color Hues Challenge #59

Welcome to the newest two-week Cardz 4 Galz challenge.  Our host for challenge #194, Billie A, chose using vellum as the theme.   When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge site to see all the inspiration from the rest of the design team members.

I got my color combination from the Color Hues Challenge # 59, which calls for green and gold.  While most of the cards for this challenge are for St. Patrick’s Day, mine is not.  I think it’s pretty striking though, and I hope you agree.

Here’s my card:

This is actually the “after” version of this card. My “before” version didn’t have the little sprigs of vellum cardstock in addition to the gold embossed vellum cardstock. Believe me, it was a challenge to get the sentiment banner off the card without ruining it or the DSP background.

Here’s the Color Cues Challenge banner:

Measurements:

  • The Evening Evergreen base measures 4-1/4 by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches to create a tent card.
  • The gold foil mat measures 4-1/8 by 5-1/8 inches. Since I only needed to border the DSP (designer series paper), I used a Stitched Rectangle die to crop out the center of the foil to use another time.
  • The Fancy Flora DSP measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. I trimmed a 4 by 1/2 inch strip for the bottom of the inside white cardstock panel.
  • I trimmed a piece of Evening Evergreen 6 x 6 inch DSP to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap. At the same time, I punched a 1-inch circle of coordinating DSP for the envelope seal.
  • I used a piece of Evening Evergreen scrap to crop the sentiment banner using the Stylish Shapes banner die.
  • The white panel for the inside of the card measures 4 by 5-1/4 inches.
  • That’s it for the measurements!

What I Did:

  • First, I wrapped some Soft Succulent open weave ribbon around the DSP front panel. I used tear-n-tape to adhere the ends on the back.
  • Next, I adhered both the gold foil and the DSP to the front of the card using multipurpose liquid glue.
  • Then, it was time to get out my embossing buddy, gold metallic embossing powder, my heat tool, and vellum.
  • After rubbing down the vellum cardstock with my embossing buddy, I stamped the large floral spray from the Natural Prints stamp set using VersaMark ink.
  • I carefully added gold embossing powder to the image and softly tapped off the excess powder.
  • Heat set the image using a heat tool.
  • Next, I repeated the embossing steps using a sentiment from Natural Prints.
  • After adding gold embossing powder and softly tapping off the excess, I heat set it using the heat tool.
  • I used the Natural Prints dies for the large spray and the small twigs. I cropped the sentiment using the banner from Stylish Shapes.
  • The gold embossing powder allowed me to use liquid glue on the back of the large spray to adhere it to the DSP.
  • I’ve already said what I had to do for the twig sprays. OOPS!
  • Next, I tied a double bow using the gold Simply Elegant trim around the Soft Succulent ribbon next to the sentiment.
  • In order to balance out the gold on both sides of the front of the card, I added three gold gems.
  • After adhering my strip of DSP to the inside white panel, I adhered it to the inside using liquid glue. I left the inside blank and can add a sentiment when I use the card.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

Thank you for stopping by today.

Have a Peachy Day!

Red and Pink for Cardz 4 Galz #193

Welcome to the newest two-week Cardz 4 Galz challenge.  For challenge #193, our host, Pamela, picked Red with Pink for a color challenge.  When you finish here, I hope you will visit our challenge website to see what the rest of the design team created.  It’s always so interesting to see how each person put their individual mark on the challenge.

Here’s my red and pink card, which pretty much evolved as I went along:

I used retired DSP (designer series paper), two of the Scalloped Contour dies, vellum cardstock, and the Framed Florets and Art Gallery stamp sets.  The bronze butterflies were completely a last minute addition.

What I Did:

  • The Poppy Parade base measures 4-1/4 by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches.
  • I cropped the Petal Pink cardstock using the largest Scalloped Contours die.
  • Next, I trimmed the DSP to fit inside the frame of the scallops. It measures 3-3/8 by 4-3/4 inches. I also trimmed a piece of DSP to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap and punched a one inch circle to use to create the envelope seal.
  • Then, I cropped the top layer of vellum cardstock using a smaller die from Scalloped Contours.
  • I stamped the flower using the stamps in the Art Gallery set using Poppy Parade ink. To get the variations in the color, I stamped off once for the base part of the flower.
  • Then I stamped the leaves and stem using Soft Suede.
  • Next, I stamped the sentiment using one from the Framed Florets stamp set in Momento Tuxedo Black ink.
  • Then, I cropped the sentiment using a rectangle die. I used the coordinating dies for the flower and stem. Both pieces had dimensionals added
  • After trimming Petal Pink and Poppy Parade matting layers, I added dimensionals to the underside of the sentiment.
  • I adhered the Petal Pink scalloped layer and the DSP layers to the base of the card using multipurpose liquid glue.
  • Next, I added the flower pieces and sentiment panel to the vellum. Once they were in place, I could add liquid glue to the back of the vellum so the pieces would hide the adhesive.
  • I tied a triple bow using linen thread and attached it using mini glue dots.
  • I added a piece of white cardstock measuring 5-1/4 by 4 inches using liquid glue.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

On Tuesday I shared a postcard type card I made for my great-nephew to share with his pre-school class which you can see here.  Today, I am sharing one of the twenty postcards card I made for his sister to share with her pre-school class.

Here’s the postcard for my great-niece to share:

Here’s the back:

I created these cards using the same process as the ones for my nephew’s exchange cards.

  • I used Balmy Blue dark blend for the owl’s eyes.
  • Real Red dark blend was used for the bowtie. Then, I outlined it using a white gel pen.

Creating a Shaped Card for Cardz 4 Galz # 191

Welcome to the newest Cardz 4 Galz bi-weekly challenge!  Helen, our host, chose creating a shaped card for the theme this time.  I turned to Pinterest and found a cat shaped card by Debbie Henderson, a Stampin’ Up! demo in Maine.  Her stuff is always so creative and I really enjoy getting inspiration from her!  When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge website.  The other projects are fabulous!

Here’s my card:

After I decided to CASe Debbie’s cat card, I saw Su Mohr’s card on her blog and decided to use the Split Texture die to create dimension on the cat.

Measurements and Assembly:

  • The Crumb Cake base measures 4-1/4 by 12 inches.
  • Score at 5-1/2, 6, and 6-1/2 inches to create a mountain fold bottom.
  • Using a ruler, measure 2-1/8 inches to the center of the top portion of the front of the card.
  • Next, I measured down 1-1/2 inches in the center of the card and trimmed from the diagonal corners. This created the ears.
  • Using the Artfully Layered stamp set (retired, but I wanted the words and the leaves that look like hearts), I randomly stamped on the front using Crumb Cake ink.
  • I cropped 2 of the Split Textured dies from Crumb Cake cardstock. One is upside down, but it adds just a bit more texture to the front.
  • Align the split triangle dies and trim the overlap at the bottom.
  • Adhere to the front using multipurpose glue. I only put glue on the outside edges and the intersections of the patterns.
  • Punch, or crop, 2 1-inch circles from black cardstock for the eyes. Add a basic pearl jewel to each circle.
  • Punch, or crop, 2 1-1/2-inch circles in white cardstock.
  • I used Petal Pink ink and a splatter stamp for the front of each “cheek”
  • Fussy cut one of the small Petal Pink hearts from the Country Floral Lane 12 x 12 inch DSP (designer series paper) for the nose.
  • Using the same DSP package, I trimmed strips of hearts on Petal Pink for the whiskers.
  • There are dimensionals under the eyes and cheeks.
  • I used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the whiskers and the heart to the front of the cheeks.
  • Finally, I tied a bow from the Petal Pink organdy ribbon and adhered it to one of the ears using a mini-glue dot.
  • I haven’t added a sentiment on the back yet because I have to figure out who will be getting this cutie for Valentine’s Day.
  • With that, I’d finished my shaped card for this challenge.

Thank you for stopping by my blog this morning.

Have a Peachy day!

Keeping it CAS for Cardz 4 Galz #190

Welcome to the first Cardz 4 Galz challenge for 2023.  Our host this time, Helen, chose Clean and Simple for the theme.  As always, the variety and creativity of the other design team members inspires me.  When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge blog and see what the rest of the team members created!

I don’t know if you could call my card “clean” but it definitely is simple.  I just couldn’t pass up using this gorgeous Sale-a-Bration DSP (designer series paper) for this challenge.  This DSP pattern has quite a bit of open space, and the colors are just fabulous.

Here’s my card:

Measurements and Assembly:

  • The Rich Razzleberry base measures 4-1/4 by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches to create a tent fold card.
  • I used Crushed Curry for the mat, which measures 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches. Then, I adhered it to the base using multipurpose liquid glue.
  • The DSP measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. I trimmed another piece to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • The white cardstock on the inside of the card measures 4 by 5-1/4 inches.
  • In my stash of twine, I found a length of this retired Rich Razzleberry twine. I tied around the DSP and made a bow on the front.
  • I added dimensionals to the back of the DSP and adhered it to the Crushed Curry mat on the base of the card.
  • Using my Stamparatus, I stamped the sentiment, from the Framed Florets stamp set, in Rich Razzleberry on a scrap of white cardstock. This dark color takes a few minutes to dry completely.
  • Since I used the Stamparatus, I could restamp the sentiment using VersaMark. Therefore, I wiped down the cardstock with my embossing buddy, and stamped the sentiment again. Next, I heat set the clear embossing powder using my heat tool.
  • Then, I cropped the sentiment using a circle die from the Stylish Shapes die set. I added dimensionals to the back of the circle and adhered it to the front of the DSP, straddling the twine.
  • After punching a 1 inch circle from coordinating DSP for the envelope seal, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

Thank you for stopping by my blog today.

Another Halloween Fun Fold for Cardz 4 Galz #184

Welcome to the Cardz 4 Galz two-week challenge #184.  Our host for this challenge, Pamela, chose Halloween and/or a color challenge using orange, purple, and/or black for the theme.  I’ve already shared some Halloween posts, and you can see those cards here and here.  When you finish here, I hope you will hop over to the Cardz 4 Galz challenge site to see the cards from the rest of the design team members.  The Halloween cards are cute, and the color challenge cards are gorgeous.  I’d love to see your creations in our gallery for challenge #184!

This isn’t the first time I’ve created a card with this fun fold from Connie Stewart. ( I embedded her video for this fun fold below.)  The first card linked above is the same fold.  I made that card and coordinating book mark for my 7 year old great-niece.  I haven’t decided if this card needs to go to my (almost) 5 year old great niece, or my Halloween loving daughter.  This fold looks complicated.  However, if you can trim and score your paper, you can definitely make this fun fold!  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Here’s my card:

Measurements:

Not only does Connie Stewart give you very clear directions for trimming and scoring, she also includes clear instructions for making the whole card!

  • The very back base of Gorgeous Grape cardstock measures 5-1/2 by 4-1/4 inches.
  • I used Smoky Slate for the folded base of the card. I trimmed it to 5-1/4 by 11 inches. Then, I scored it at 1-3/4 and 3-1/2 inches from either long end.
  • Next, I trimmed 3 black pieces of cardstock trimmed to 1-3/4 by 4 inches. These pieces line up on the front of the card.
  • I used Old Olive and black DSP (designer series paper) from last Halloween, Each of the two pieces measures 1-5/8 by 3-3/4 inches.
  • I added DSP to the inside folded panels. The stars and dots DSP pieces measure 1-5/8 by 4 inches and I needed two of them.
  • I used this same DSP for the envelope flap, and it measures 6 by 2-1/2 inches. At the same time, I punched a 1 inch circle of the Old Olive DSP for the envelope seal.
  • The white cardstock for the inside of the card measures 3-3/4 by 5 inches.
  • Using the dies from the Scary Cute bundle, I cropped the frame, haunted house, batts, and cat from Basic Black cardstock..
  • HINT: If you want a perfect fit for the house to sit inside the spooky mat, crop the house from the negative part of the frame mat. By lining the house die up with the bottom of the negative piece, the house and fence will be cropped to the perfect size.
  • That’s it for the measurements.

Putting the Card Together:

  • II adhered all the pieces together using multipurpose liquid glue. The card is already thick and didn’t want dimensionals to make it any thicker.
  • I used the Scary Cute stamp set and Momento Tuxedo Black ink to do all the necessary stamping.
  • The black stars came from a Paper Pumpkin Halloween kit from two years ago.
  • I can completely and totally guarantee you that following Connie Stewart’s video will help you put the card together much better than I can describe the steps. However, I have some tips I can share to hopefully make it easier for you.
  • HINT: This glittery washi tape does not shed!!!! Score!!! However, the tape also needs some multipurpose liquid glue if you need to layer the tape at all. The adhesive on the washi tape isn’t enough to hold one layer onto another layer of the glittery washi tape.
  • HINT #2: I used a blending brush and Crushed Curry ink to color a piece of white cardstock for the moon. I punched out a 1-inch circle and adhered it using multipurpose liquid glue to the back of the frame. Even though I fussy cut the circle as close as possible to the frame, it was still possible to see the light colored cardstock against the black cardstock. To solve this minor problem, I used the brush end of a Basic Black marker to outline the white cardstock layer.
  • All that’s left to say is have fun! I really hope you try this fun fold! It’s fabulous!!!
  • After all that, this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set was finished!

Thank you very much for stopping by my blog today.

Have a Peachy Day!
