This week, Stampin’ Up! surprised their demonstrators with a PDF set of COVID-19 sentiments. I immediately used them to create cards to send to my family. This sentiment is perfect for us because, like so many other people, we have been sharing locations with tp. When we find some, we pick up as much as allowed in order to share with other family members.
Since I incorporated two different color challenges, I used one sets of colors for five cards and another set for the other five. The layout is from a sketch challenge, but I missed the deadline for that.
I am having a terrible technical time with this post tonight. Hopefully, I will be able to post the challenge banners here instead of after my card.
Here are my cards:
Using What I Had Before It Retires
It’s pretty easy to see which card matches which color challenge. For each of the challenges, I used 6 x 6 DSP from the various color families. The mats used Bermuda Bay or Rich Razzleberry. Thankfully, I had retired ribbon in Bermuda Bay and Melon Mambo. In order to create a frame around the 6 x 6 DSP pieces, I used Basic Black mats.
When I printed the sentiments, I printed enough of the particular page with the tp sentiment. Isn’t it perfect?
The inside sentiment is shown below:
Cute! Appropriate, right?
When making multiple cards , I’ve found it much easier to do each element and then assembly line the card together. Therefore, I had little piles of DSP strips, sentiments cropped, ribbons, base cardstock, and black mats all cut out. I even had the dimensionals on the back of the sentiments done and they had their own pile. This allowed me to create the cards in chunks throughout my virtual teaching day in 5 minute breaks over two days. Easy Peasy really and truly.
What About the Greats?
After I had written and addressed all the cards, I thought I needed to send a card to each of my great-nieces and great-nephew.
Here are those cards:

Color Throwdown #589 and Freshly Made Sketches 431 seemed, to me, to be made for each other. Throw in the Flowering Foils, and I seemed to have a match made in heaven.
Here’s my card:
Here are the challenge banners that inspired my card
Flowering Florals
These SAB Specialty DSP papers take color from the blends very well. I’ve seen many cards with the uncolored DSP as well. Either way, they are gorgeous. I’ve already posted another two-fer card using this DSP and you can see that post here.
The color combination for ctd#589 is one of my all time favorites of gray, black, red, and white. The description on the color challenge includes “a neutral card with a pop of color,” This pop of red for the card base definitely fulfills the requirements.
I used my Smoky Slate blends combo to color all the petals, for the lack of a better word. While I did leave traces of outlines, I wanted to make sure I randomized the coloring patterns.
Basic Black provided the middle mat for the DSP and also the mat for the sentiment. I like the pops of black just as much as I like the pop of red. The Whisper White sentiment background provides another pop of a neutral color.
I tied a piece of the Gray Granite textured ribbon into a square knot around the DSP/black section. Then, I ran the Poppy Parade cardstock through my Big Shot using the Subtle 3D embossing folder. When I put everything together, I used dimensionals to pop up the DSP. I also put them between the sentiment block and the black mat. Then, I realized that I wanted to pop up the sentiment on the ribbon somehow. So, I used my really large glue dots to accomplish that goal. The really large glue dots provide just enough of a lift to even off the sentiment over the ribbon.
Bringing It All Together
This card would definitely fall in the easy-peasy category. As I am sure you know, I really enjoy combining challenges. This combination worked out exactly how I saw it in my head.
As always, I added a piece of DSP to the envelope flap. For this card, I used a piece of the Neutrals 6 x 6 DSP.
I stamped “With a Great Big Wish for happiness,” also from the Sending You Thoughts cling stamp set.
If you like this color combo, feel free to copy the image below:

I just love combining a color challenge with a sketch challenge, especially when it works out. Truth be told, the final result is not at all I started out creating.
Here’s my card, outside and inside:
Here are both challenge banners:
Color Throwdown 585
These four colors combine to create a beautiful combination. I had many choices for the teal requirement, but I thought Pretty Peacock would create a sharp contrast with the Calypso Coral. For my green, I chose Old Olive. I used Very Vanilla for the background, which I ran through the Big Shot with the Subtle 3D embossing folder. I also stamped the flowers on Very Vanilla so the neutral color would frame each flower. After many bouts of trial and error, I finally decided to use the basic pearls for the centers of the flowers.
Freshly Made Sketches 427
As you can see, I sort of, kind of followed the sketch. I do have the horizontal strip of paper, for which I chose to emboss using the Leaves 3D folder. The decision to just use dry embossed cardstock after trying a number of the Pretty Peacock DSP patterns. None of them really worked, so dry embossed cardstock seemed like the best choice.
Adding the Calypso Coral ribbon around the strip of cardstock helps with the movement of the card from the flowers to the ribbon, and down to the sentiment.
I used the cluster and the individual leaves from the Thoughtful Blooms stamp set (a FREE SAB item with $100 purchase) and stamped them in Old Olive. Originally, I thought I’d have leaves showing out of the bottom of the cardstock strip as well with more flowers there. Then, I decided that would stray too far from the clean cards for the Freshly Made Sketch challenge.
The last thing I needed to figure out was what to do with the senitment. I didn’t want to cover the dry-embossed strip of cardstock, so I started playing around with sentiments, what would fit, and how to include it. Finally, I decided to add an un-embossed strip of Very Vanilla under the Pretty Peacock. To help it stand out, I outlined it using an Old Olive marker.
Finishing Up
The sentiment on the inside is from Peaceful Moments, but the chain is from Thoughful Blooms. Originally, I wasn’t going to put a flower on the chain, but I had a smudge of Pretty Peacock ink and had to cover it. Happy accidents, right? At least I was able to get the three challenge colors on the Very Vanilla background, so it all worked out.
Finally, I added a piece of the Pretty Peacock DSP to the flap of a Very Vanilla envelope. Ta-da! This coordinated set was finished!
As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d love to hear what you think, and every comment is greatly appreciated!

I just love the color red, and Stampin’ Up! has a wide variety of reds. My very favorite is Cherry Cobbler. Give me a red, black, and white or red, tones of gray, and white, and I am in heaven. This challenge was no exception. At first, I decided to create a plaid base using the Buffalo Check background stamp. After stamping it in Basic Gray and adding Cherry Cobbler and Smoky Slate thin plaid lines, I decided I wanted to create a clean card instead.
Here’s the card I created after I changed my inital plan:
Here’s the challenge banner:
Dandelion Wishes
Dandelions remind me of my childhood on the south shore of Long Island. With those memories in mind, I decided this stamp set, with the Color Throwdown challenge colors would be a good match. I’m happy with the result. The card is clean, and the pops of Cherry Cobbler pair very well with the Basic Gray and Smoky Slate.
The whole card came together very quickly. Don’t you love when that happens? The bottom mat is Cherry Cobbler, followed by Smoky Slate, with a Whisper White card background. Next, I used Basic Gray to stamp the dandelions and for the bottom circle of the sentiment block. Smoky Slate is the middle layer of the sentiment circle, with Cherry Cobbler on Whisper White for the actual sentiment.
I added the Cherry Cobbler ribbon tied in a square knot. With that, I originally thought I was done, but decided that the front needed a little something. So, I grabbed my dark Basic Gray stamping blend and colored three pearl basic jewels. After they dried, which requires a bit of patience, I simply placed one on each of the dandelion centers. Then I stamped the trio of dandelions in Smoky Slate on the inside of the card. The image is light enough to be able to write over it without an issue. There is no greeting on the inside, leaving plenty of space to write a personal note.
I used Basic Gray to stamp the single dandelion on the front of the card. Then, I stamped a series of the dandelion trios on the envelope flap. Easy peasy.
With that, the coordinating card/envelope set was completed. A clean and simple card with a beautiful color combination that came together very quickly. Have to love it!

Sale-a-Bration has started! It’s so much fun to get something for free with a qualifying purchase of $50! One of the first items I earned for free (did I say this set was free??) is the adorable The Gang’s All Meer stamp set. Who knew that meerkats could be this cute? The designers at SU! did!
Color Throwdown #574
The colors for this challenge included red, brown, and white, and neutrals could be added as well.
Here’s the challenge banner:
Here’s my card:
So Stinking Cute!
I’d originally made this card using Blueberry Bushel, shown here:
When I saw the colors for ctd574, I thought that the same layout with the challenge colors would be so stinking cute as well.
Therefore, I grabbed my favorite red, Cherry Cobbler, some Crumb Cake paper and ribbon, and some Cherry Cobbler DSP and started making the card.
I think the Stitched Nested Label dies fit this group of meerkats so well. The line-up of them seems to match the hexagon of the labels so well. The meerkat on the right end is one of my two favorites on this set. That single meerkat popping up out of the ground is the other favorite.
Coloring
I used the Crumb Cake blends combo for all the meerkats. Then, I went back with the Early Espresso marker to add dimension to the lines inside the merrkats. I also added a bit more spiky hair to each because I thought the spiky hairs would add a bit of spunk to each of them.
Before putting all the pieces together, I first needed to dry fit the sentiment placement before I cropped it using the Stitched Rectangle die. It just fits the spot perfectly, which is a very happy accident. The square knot using Crumb Cake ribbon also just completes the bottom part of the card.
Dimensionals were used to adhere both the group of meerkats and the single one on the sentiment.
I also stamped the single merrkat popping up out of the ground on the inside of the card and the front lower right corner of the envelope.
After adding a piece of the Cherry Cobbler DSP to the envelope flap, I’d finished the set.
Going back to the challenge colors: red – Cherry Cobbler cardstock and DSP, brown – Crumb Cake ribbon and stamping blends combo and the Early Espresso marker, white – the dots on the Cherry Cobbler DSP. The other neutral is Very Vanilla for the sentiment and focal image blocks.

I just love all three of the elves in the #Elfie stamp set. Color Throwdown 572 consists of aqua, green, gold, and white. I’ve wanted to do a non-traidtional Christmas color elf card, and this challenge seemed perfect for just that.
Here’s the challenge banner:
Here’s my card:
Meeting the Color Throwdown Challenge
In order to meet the ctd challenge, I used Coastal Cabana, Bermuda Bay, Shaded Spruce, Whisper White, and Delicata Golden Glitz.
Shaded Spruce provided the color for the base and the present. After stamping the present on a scrap piece of Shaded Spruce DSP, I fussy cut it out. I also stamped a bow in Coastal Cabana, then fussy cut that as well. The result is a fun wrapping on the present for a pop of color.
I used Pool Party blends combo for the elf’s outfit and part of the ornament. Then I used the Shaded Spruce and Bermuda Bay blends combo for the rest of the ornament. I finished it off with a touch of gold provided by the gold Wink of Stella.
While coloring the elf, I found myself wishing I had gotten the puff paint from the holiday catalog so I could give the trim on the elf’s outfit some dimension. I wound up using the Fine Tip Glue Pen and then covered each piece of trim with some Dazzling Diamonds. Even though I’d already used the gold Wink of Stella on the bell on the top of the elf’s hat, I added Dazzling Diamonds there as well.
More Than Coloring
I knew I couldn’t just put the elf panel on plain Coastal Cabana cardstock. Therefore, I ran the cardstock through my Big Shot using the Brick and Mortar 3D embossing folder. Snowflakes seemed to be a must embellishment, so I grabbed the three from the Seasonal Layer Dies. I already had the Whisper White circle cropped, and the sentiment from #Elfie fit perfectly.
Using gold is part of the challenge, but I didn’t want to use some of the gold foil. I finally decided to outline the elf panel and sentiment circle using the Delicata Golden Glitz ink. Just those small touches of gold really pop off the card.
Short and sweet tonight. I must grade……. I must grade…….
