While I have been playing along with a variety of challenges, I haven’t been meeting deadlines. Today is different. Today I can meet three (!!) deadlines with one card. The inspiration for this card came from Ann Murray at Murray Stamps Ink. She’s been making some fabulous cards using the Whale of a Time Suite of products, so I followed her lead. Now I have two other cards in the works using the same suite.
Here’s my card:
Here are the three challenge banners:
Measurements
The layout for this card meets the Freshly Made Sketches #477 challenge. Using a lot of white space and animals meets The Paper Players challenge. Finally, the fish and turtles meet the Paper Craft Crew challenge.
After deciding what DSP pattern I wanted to use for the focal point, I cropped the paper down using the largest square die from the Stitched Shapes die set. Then I trimmed down a piece of Calypso Coral cardstock to 2-7/8 inches square for the mat.
Then, I went back to the basics, starting with the card base. I used Granny Apple Green for the base. It measures 4-1/4 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches forming a square card.
Next, I trimmed a Calypso Coral piece of DSP from the Whale of a Time 6 x 6 inch DSP for the bottom mat. This mat measures 4-1/8 inches by 4-1/8 inches.
I needed to have a bunch of white space, so I ran white cardstock through the Big Shot with the Seabed embossing folder. Then, I trimmed the paper down to 3-7/8 inches square, the cut it diagonally in half.
While I had the white cardstock handy, I trimmed a piece to 4 inches square for the inside sentiment panel.
The Evolution
When I started this card, I really thought I would just stamp the greeting on a piece of Bumblebee cardstock and trim it with a Stitched So Sweetly Die, and that would be that. Things didn’t wind up working quite the way I envisioned. Enter a shaker card, which I haven’t done since Christmas.
The clear medium envelopes are essential when making shaker cards. However, making a very small shaker turned out stickier than I thought. Here are a few tips I learned along the way:
Trim the clear envelope down to a manageable size before trying to use the tear and tape on the back of the cardstock.
Don’t pull the tear and tape strip covers off until you have your cardstock piece in the corner.
While it is necessary to fold the ends of the clear envelope back, make sure you have some give in the front so the shaker part works easily.
Using my opposable tweezer to add the fish to the front of the shaker works very well.
Using the fish die from the Shark dies, I cropped Calypso Coral and Bumblebee fish. Both are inside the shaker.
Then, I used glue dots to adhere the greeting to the center of the outside of the clear envelope.
I stamped some Calypso Coral fish all along the bottom of the inside sentiment panel. The inside “happy birthday” comes from the Woodland Wonder stamp set.
Finishing Up
Since the USPS charges extra postage for square cards, I used a standard medium card envelope. Therefore, I adhered and trimmed a piece of the Whale of a Time DSP to the envelope flap. Then, I punched out a circle of Granny Apple Green DSP for the seal. I have not been using anything wet to seal envelopes and have been writing “no saliva has been used to seal this envelope” on the backs. A few months ago, I realized I could create coordinating circle seals for the envelopes. I ran the seal through my little Xyron create a sticker 150. After running the circle seal through the Xyron, I just slip it into the envelope so I have everything together when I am ready to use the card.
With that, I’d completed this card/envelope/seal set.
Thank you so much for stopping by today.
I’d love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.
Just look at all that gorgeousness! The butterfly stamp is all one piece, as is the coordinating die. The die will also perfectly crop out butterflies on the coordinating DSP! No coloring needed, unless you want to do so.
Do you live in the U.S. and need a demonstrator? If so, I’d love to talk to you!

Paper Craft Crew’s challenge this week calls for a horizontal card paired with their sketch. Tic-tac-toe’s challenge has a middle, vertical row that helped guide my card: green, square, and die cut. Match made in card heaven!
Here’s my card:
Here are the challenge banners:
Tomorrow is my first day back at a brick and mortar school since the middle of March. Therefore, this post needs to be short and sweet.
What I Did
I chose a Granny Apple Green base for me card which measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches. This horizontal card opens up.
After cutting the white cardstock background to 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches, I ran it through the Big Shot using the Seabed 3D embossing folder. BIG HINT: the embossing on the white cardstock is very prominent. Don’t try to trim the cardstock after you’ve embossed it because it will tear. Trust me on that.
I chose two different patterns of the Whale of a Time DSP for my squares. I already knew I wanted to use the Granny Apple Green turtle that appears to be looking right at the viewer. Therefore, I picked two patterns with those green colors. I cropped the DSP using the Stitched Shapes large and medium squares.
Then I fussy cut the turtle. As many lefties will tell you, fussy cutting can be a challenge because it’s difficult to see the borders. When I realized my borders weren’t even, I simply adhered the turtle to some white cardstock and very slowly and carefully fussy cut the turtle again.
Stamping
In order to get splotches on the white background, I used the splotch stamp from the Forever Fern stamp set. These splotches were stamped in Pool Party. They are barely visible, but they do give some additional dimension to the white cardstock.
I stamped the sentiment in Pretty Peacock, then cropped it using a stitched rectangle die.
The Bumblebee DSP I used for the banner in the background coordinates so well because it’s in the Whale of a Time DSP pack. I trimmed the piece and used the triple banner punch for the ends.
I trimmed a piece of the turtle DSP to 6 inches by 2-5/8 inches for the envelope flap. While I was working on the envelope, I stamped three Granny Apple Green turtles on the bottom, left corner of the envelope. I added some Pool Party splotched for bubbles as well.
Next, I trimmed the inside panel to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. Then, I stamped some splotches around the center and a Granny Apple Green turtle in the bottom, left-hand corner. I used Pretty Peacock ink for the sentiment “Whale Done!” in the center of the white cardstock.
Putting it Together
There are dimensionals under the sentiment block and the turtle. Doesn’t he fit perfectly in the open space on the square? In addition, his front flipper looks like it was just made to rest on the corner of the sentiment block.
I adhered the layers of white cardstock, the Bumblebee banner and the large square using the multipurpose liquid glue. I didn’t try to adhere the small square with just the glue since the left side of the square would lay funny because of the layers under it. Therefore, I glued the right side and used glue dots on the left. The glue dots gave the left side just enough of a pop for the whole square to lay flat.
The PPC sketch calls for three pieces of bling, if you will. I chose to use three of the large, clear elegant faceted gems placed in a triangle shape for balance.
With that, I’d completed this card/envelope coordinated set. The longest part of this whole card was when I had to pick out the DSP patterns.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d also love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.
Hello and welcome back to another Make My Monday challenge! This challenge’s theme is clean and simple. I decided to use the Whale of a Time suite for my card.
Here’s my card:
I really don’t know what part of this suite I like the most. For this card, it’s the color combination of Just Jade and Pretty Peacock. The 3D Seabed embossing folder might carry this card. It could be the wave pattern DSP, or even the DSP whale. Yes, I said I punched the whale from the DSP from this set. There’s a whale stamp allowing you to create your own color combination. The punch also includes the adorable water piece for the water spout on top. Cute!
However, I really wanted this card to be as simple as possible. To me, that meant just three elements and the embossed background. Since I used white for the embossed background, the card remained pretty clean. Truth be told, I really think I created this following a sketch challenge, but for the life of me, I can’t remember which one.
Measurements
I used Just Jade for the card base, which is 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, and scored at 5-1/2 inches.
The Pretty Peacock mat measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches. I cropped the Pretty Peacock Stitched So Sweetly label from the middle of the mat layer to save on cardstock.
A Stitched So Sweetly die was also used to crop the DSP wave pattern paper. I don’t really know how I decided to put both of the Stitched So Sweetly cropped layers together, but it totally works.
The medium square from the Stitched Shapes die set provided the perfect square for the sentiment block.
For the inside, I trimmed a piece of white cardstock to my standard 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. I used the sentiment and swimming fish from the Whale Done stamp set on the inside.
I cut a piece of the wave DSP for the envelope flap to 2-5/8 inches by 6 inches.
Here’s the inside of the card:
Stamping and Assembly
I stamped both the front and inside sentiment using the Momento Tuxedo Black ink pad.
Aren’t those fish on the inside super cute? Hopefully, you can see the color variations on each one, which was relatively easy to achieve. I used the Just Jade marker to color the all the fish on the stamp, then went back and randomly colored the stamp using my Pretty Peacock marker. Stamp, color, repeat across the card and on the bottom. While I had the stamp and markers out, I stamped a line of fish along the bottom of the front of the envelope using the same coloring pattern.
Once I had all my pieces, it took very little time to assemble the card. Using the multipurpose glue, I attached the white background to the Pretty Peacock layer. Then, I attached those to the Just Jade card base.
I carefully lined up the two Stitched So Sweetly label die pieces and I couldn’t believe how well they fit together.
There’s a layer of dimensionals under the sentiment block.
I wanted the whale to really stand up off the card, so I used a double layer of mini-dimensionals on the back of it. The double layer means that extra postage needs to be on the card, but I think it’s worth another quarter.
Next, I adhered the inside white cardstock panel.
Finally, I added the DSP to the envelope flap then trimmed it. With that, I’d finished this coordinated card/envelope set.
I hope you will play along with our challenge! I look forward to seeing your creations in our challenge gallery!

I don’t think I’ve been able to combine three challenges into one card before. However, for this card, I combined the Global Design Project 251, Freshly Made Sketches 446, and Sunday Stamps Challenge 236. Wow! The #GDP251 challenge required an aquatic theme. FMS446 wanted a slimline card, and SSC236 is a sketch challenge.
Here’s my card:
Here are the challenge banners:
Measurements:
The Granny Apple Green base is 7 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored vertically at 3-1/2 inches.
For the front of the card, I trimmed white cardstock to 3-3/8 inches by 8-3/8 inches. I also trimmed a piece of white cardstock to 3-1/4 inches by 8-1/4 inches for the inside.
Since the Whale of a Time DSP measures 6 inches by 6 inches, I had to very carefully combine two pieces of DSP. I used two of the Pacific Point wave patterns for the front. I left the waves on the bottom, and combined the darker piece to the top. The final measurement for this DSP combination came out to 3-1/4 inches by 8-1/4 inches.
The Bumblebee DSP measures 1-1/4 inches wide by 3 inches long. Since the middle will be covered, I didn’t need to use long strips of this DSP.
After embossing a piece of 4-1/4 inches by 5-1/2 inches piece of white cardstock with the Seabed 3D embossing folder, I trimmed it to 3-7/8 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
I trimmed the turtle DSP to 2-3/8 inches by 6 inches. Dimensionals provide the popped up height.
Assembly:
Once I had all my pieces trimmed, I settled on the sentiment. Using the Momento Tuxedo Black ink, I stamped the sentiment on a scrap piece of white cardstock, then cropped it using a stitched rectangle die.
I used a piece of the Granny Apple Green DSP from the Whale of a Time set and cropped it using the Stitched So Sweetly dies. The sentiment is adhered directly to the DSP using the multipurpose liquid glue, and there are dimensionals under the DSP.
Since I’d already cut all the pieces I needed, I just needed to start at the bottom and put the card together following the Sunday Stamps sketch. It took me longer to measure and cut all the pieces than it did to assemble the card.
The Inside:
I wanted to make this a birthday card, so I used the “Hoping all your birthday fishes come true” on the inside. I guess I didn’t think too much about it, but I decided to stamp turtles on the inside to match the front of the card instead of fish to match the sentiment. In the long run, I don’t think anyone will notice other than you and me.
For some reason, I really struggled with this turtle stamp. When I tried to stamp it fresh off the ink pad, I wound up with blobs. Thankfully, I started my test stamps on my grid paper. I decided to use Just Jade and Pacific Point ink and stamped all of the turtles second generation on the white cardstock.
Finally, I stamped some air bubbles using Pool Party.
Here’s the inside of the card:
With that, I’d finished my slimline, three challenge card. I still have to make an envelope to go with it, but am hoping it will fit in a legal size envelope.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d also love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.

This card started out for a challenge. As I started working on it, I realized the card I saw unfolding in front of me did not fit the sketch challenge. We’ve all done that, right?
Here’s the card I created:
A Big Deal Fun Fold
This bundle contains the stamp set and a whale builder punch. One of the best parts of this set is that the punch is perfect for punching whales out of the DSP. I originally stamped the whale using Momento Tuxedo Black ink on a piece of white cardstock and thought I would just color it using my blends. Wrong. The fabulously gorgeous DSP needs a coordinating fabulously gorgeous whale, so I punched one.
Take a look at this all inclusive suite containing the stamp set, punch, embossing folder, embellishments, and coordinating DSP, which has so much more than just whales!
I’ve made quite a few cards using the fun fold, and I usually am happy with the outcome. Using the DSP, the school of fish stamp, the punch, and the sentiment stamps, this card came together quite easily.
Step-By-Step Paper Cuts
Start with a base card of 4-1/4 inches x 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches. I used Pacific Point since it coordinates with the DSP.
Next, score one side at 2-1/8. Fold both score lines and burnish with a bone folder.
I chose the under the sea beautiful DSP for the inside base and the matching wave DSP for the two smaller folds.
At this point, it would’ve been much easier to randomly stamp the fish schools on all the DSP pieces, but, naturally, I didn’t do that. Trust me, you want to stamp the fist before you start putting layers together.
The measurements for each of the smaller flap pieces are:
black cardstock – 2 inches by 5-3/8
DSP – 1-7/8 by 5-1/4 inches
The inside black cardstock measures 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches. The DSP is 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. The white cardstock measures 2 inches by 5-1/4 inches. I didn’t want to try to piece the white and DSP together and thought it would be easier to just put white over the DSP.
Using the Stitched So Sweetly die set, I cropped the sentiment mat out of the piece of the base DSP. Very carefully, figure out where the white cardstock will cover the DSP, and crop the label from that piece. No one will see the hole left in the DSP after you put the white down on top.
Now for the Ribbon
Big hint: don’t start adhering all your layers onto the Pacific Point base until you figure out where you are going to place your ribbon. You don’t have to have ribbon, but the card doesn’t lay flat on its own without it.
Tear and tape really made adhering the ribbon to the cardstock simple. I secured one piece of the ribbon between the DSP and black cardstock layer on the inside part of the card.
The second piece of ribbon required some strategic thinking, and I got it wrong the first time. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, here’s a picture of what I did:
I opened up the front of the card so it laid flat on my desk. Next, I cut two strips out of the DSP to 2 inches by 5-3/8 inches. Tear and tape secured this piece of ribbon under the DSP and to the Pacific Point cardstock.
Next, I stamped the sentiment on white cardstock, then cropped it using the smallest square in the Stitched Shapes die set. There are dimensionals under the sentiment square. However, I used liquid glue to adhere one half of the label to the front flap. If you adhere the whole label down, your card will not open. Just saying. I stamped the inside sentiment on the white cardstock and adhered it down.
After I punched out the whale, I adhered the water spout with just a dot of liquid glue. There are dimensionals under the whale to pop it up from the DSP.
Finishing Up!
Finally, since I’d finished the card, I cut a piece of DSP for the envelope flap and adhered it down. Ta-dah! I’d completed the card/envelope set. Believe me, it took longer to write down all the steps than it did to actually complete the card.
