Here’s my Hey Chuck fun fold:
A colleague needs a birthday card for his father using the New York Mets colors of blue and orange. I added Crumb Cake to Starry Sky cardstock and Pumpkin Pie 6 x 6″ DSP (designer series paper) for this side-step fun fold. Connie Stewart’s tutorial videos are wonderful and easy to follow. I used her video for this side-step card, and you can find her video here. Just one of the wonderful things about her videos is that she includes measurements and scoring directions. When I trimmed the Pumpkin Pie DSP for the card layers, I also trimmed a piece to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap. Then, I punched a 1-inch circle from Starry Sky DSP and ran it through my XYRON create-a-sticker for the envelope seal. Follow those, and you can create your own fabulous side-step fun fold!
Creative Creases:
Since this is a fun-fold, I will be uploading this card to the Creative Creases challenge. It’s the third anniversary for this challenge, and I am so happy for the challenge coordinator, Debbie Mageed, and the rest of the design team members! I love that it’s always anything goes with a fun fold theme.
What I Did:
I stamped everything I needed using my Momento Tuxedo Black ink pad.
Unless noted, I used multipurpose liquid glue for adhering the pieces together.
Stamp the two roosters and birthday cake on white cardstock.
Stamp the fence piece on Crumb Cake cardstock.
Next, I colored the roosters using the blends combos for Pumpkin Pie, Cajun Craze, and Crumb Cake.
Then, I added a bit of sparkle to the flame parts of the cake using a clear Wink of Stella glitter pen.
Crop the fence, roosters, and birthday cake using the coordinating die set.
At the same time, I cropped the weather vane from Starry Sky cardstock and then used clear Wink of Stella to the whole vane.
Stamp the two sentiments on Pumpkin Pie cardstock. In hindsight, I probably should’ve stamped it in VersaMark and used black embossing powder for this part.
Crop the Pumpkin Pie and Starry Sky cardstock pieces using deckled rectangle dies.
Trim a piece of white cardstock to fit between both deckled rectangle layers.
Adhere all the sentiment layers.
I already had the brick-embossed Crumb Cake cardstock, and it really works on this card.
After trimming it to size, I adhered it and added the weather vane.
Add dimensionals to the rooster and adhere to the Crumb Cake cardstock.
Adhere the fence piece.
After stamped the birthday sentiment on the white cardstock, adhere it to the back panel.
Adhere the smaller rooster and birthday cake to the white cardstock.
With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

I didn’t really have pun sentiments, but I do have the Hey Chuck bundle, and the sentiments are kind of pun-ny, at least in my humble opinion.
Here’s my card:
If this layout looks extremely familiar, it’s because I’ve already used it twice. It’s from Try Stampin’ on Tuesday, and you can see my other cards using the layout here and here. Can you tell I am just pleased as punch with it?
The measurements are exactly the same as both of my previous posts. The DSP comes from the Sun Prints (retired) set. The base and dominant color is Starry Sky. It’s very difficult to see, but the whole rooster and the outline, as well as the outline of the circle are all outlined with Starry Sky marker and then I added clear Wink of Stella on them.
I used one of the online exclusive Basics Embossing folders for the background of the circle.
The fence pieces are stamped with Gray Granite on Gray Granite 6 x 6 inch DSP. I used them instead of ribbon on this version of the card.
The ink for the outside and inside sentiments is Starry Sky.

Welcome back to another biweekly Cardz 4 Galz challenge! Our host for #209, Johanna, chose green and cream for the theme. While I used Mossy Meadow and Very Vanilla for my green and cream, the possibilities for this challenge are endless! This Hey Chuck bundle just makes me happy! I’ve been so busy making Thanksgiving cards, it was fun to go back to create a birthday card that is really appropriate for galz or guyz. I really think this guy is “Chuck”, mainly because he looks like he thinks all the other roosters in the set are just a tad off. I’ve already posted a number of Hey Chuck cards using Chuck and other roosters in this bundle. You can see three of them here, here, and here. As always, all my supplies can be found in the Stampin’ Up! annual catalog.
Luckily, I could use a number of scraps/leftover cardstock pieces!
I’ve found that it’s easier for me to gather all my supplies first before I start measuring, trimming, stamping, coloring, cropping, and finally assembling the card. My main desk is 2 feet wide by 5 feet long. However, I wind up working in a much smaller space for some strange and (not so) unknown reason. Please tell me I am not the only one.
The Mossy Meadow base measures 11 by 4-1/4 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches to create a tent fold.
After I dry embossed a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock using one of the Basics Embossing folders, I trimmed it to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
The Very Vanilla cardstock for the inside measures 4 by 5-1/4 inches.
I trimmed a piece of 6 x 6 inch Crumb Cake DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
I punched a 1-inch circle from a piece of Mossy Meadow 6 x 6 inch DSP for the envelope seal. This needs to be run through your XYRON create-a-sticker to create the seal.
There’s a piece of Mossy Meadow cardstock under the grassy pieces on the front of the card. It measures 1/2 by 4-1/8 inches.
The only other piece of cardstock I needed was a 4-1/4 by 5-1/2 inch Crumb Cake cardstock for the circle of rays behind my scene.
As I said, I was able to get everything else stamped and/or cropped using leftover cardstock pieces.
Stamping & Coloring:
Coloring is completely relaxing to me, so I colored, stamped, and used blending brushes for these different elements.
I stamped the rooster and sentiment onto Very Vanilla cardstock using Early Espresso ink.
HINT: If you are not using Momento inks to stamp your outlines, but are using blends to color, you really need to let the ink dry before you start coloring or it will bleed.
I stamped the fence pieces onto Crumb Cake cardstock using Early Espresso ink.
Then, I used a blending brush and layers of Crumb Cake ink on the fence pieces so they look kind of weathered. Remember you can always add more ink as needed. However, if you start with a heavy hand while blending, you might wind up starting over.
HINT: After adding ink to the blending brush, tap it off on grid paper so you don’t wind up with blobs of color that you can never seem to fix.
Using the Rays of Light stamp set, I stamped Crumb Cake ink onto Crumb Card cardstock.
By this time, I could color the rooster. I used Crumb Cake and Cajun Craze blends combos for Chuck.
Finally, I stamped the inside sentiments and fence pieces using Early Espresso ink.
Cropping & Assembly:
I used the Hey Chuck die set to crop the Cajun Craze weather vane, Chuck, and the fence pieces.
The sentiment banner and the Rays of Light circle were cropped using the Stylish Shapes die set.
Then, I cropped the grassy pieces behind the fence from the Playing in the Rain die set.
To assemble, I used mostly multipurpose liquid glue, with the exception of dimensionals under Chuck and the front sentiment.
I adhered the Rays of Light circle first, then layers the strip of Mossy Meadow green cardstock and the grassy pieces on top.
Next, I added the fence pieces. I adhered the two outside fence pieces using liquid glue. Then, I used mini glue dots for the center fence piece.
After adhering the weather vane, I added the dimensional backed Chuck and sentiment.
This card turned out a bit bulky, so I will need to add extra postage to the envelope in order to mail it.
After adhering the inside panel, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

While some fun fold cards can be a bit more involved, this joy fold card is pretty basic. Face it – who doesn’t love the surprise of a fun fold card? Just let the recipient think it took you much more work than it really did. The joy fold is simply a card within a card.
Here’s my Hey Chuck joy fold card:
We have started a new school year and my mind has been mush and I’ve been lacking mojo. What to do when you don’t have mojo – you go to Pinterest! From Pinterest I found Kathi Ondus’ video for her Hey Chuck joy fold card. You can see that video here. The first time I made this card, I completely CASE’d Kathi’s card. The one pictured above was the one I created using her layout and coloring with the blends. I took the idea of the full sun on the front from a card in the catalog using this bundle.
Measurements:
I used Kathi’s measurements for the card.
The Copper Clay base measures 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 scored at 4-1/4. By necessity, this is a tent fold card.
The Copper Clay panel for the front measures 4 by 2-5/8 inches.
I used a Calypso Coral mat for the front, and it measures 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
After I embossed the Very Vanilla piece for the front with one of the Basics 3D embossing, I trimmed it to 4 by 5-1/4 inches.
The Very Vanilla piece for the front measures 3-7/8 by 2-1/2 inches.
The Very Vanilla inside piece measures 5 by 7-1/2 inches, scored at 3-3/4 inches.
I trimmed another piece of Very Vanilla for the inside card to 3-1/2 by 4-3/4 inches.
I used scraps for inside sentiment, the sun on the front, and all the critters, cake, and skateboard. I already had the fence piece stamped and cropped from Soft Suede, which is now retired but still loved.
Stamping, Coloring, and Assembly:
Kathi’s instructions on her video are very easy to follow, especially her use of the blends for coloring.
I stamped all the critters, cake, and skateboard using Momento Tuxedo Black ink.
I colored all the pieces using the Copper Clay, Calypso Coral, and Daffodil Delight blends combos.
All the sentiments were stamped in Copper Clay.
I only added dimensionals under the rooster and cake on the front. All other pieces were adhered using multipurpose liquid glue.
The final touch was the addition of the three In Color Copper Clay dots on the front.

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s August Blog Hop! This month’s hop projects center around a SUNSHINE theme, so I hope you are ready for some sunshine fun! We are excited to share our creations and hope you love them! After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.
I combined the Rays of Light stamp and the Hey Chuck bundle and used the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge # 537 for my card.
I know the sketch uses different DSP (designer series paper) patterns, but I looked at it and saw my card.
Basic Measurements and Such:
The Crushed Curry base measures 5-12 by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
The black mat dimensions started measuring 4=1/8 by 5-3/8 inches. After I finished adhering the blocks, I trimmed the mat to get it as even as possible.
The white cardstock for the front started at 5-1/2 by 4-1/4.
Trim another piece of white cardstock to 4 by 5-1/4 inches for the inside of the card.
I used white scraps for the sentiment and chicken on the front.
Stamping, Coloring, and Other Fun Stuff
Stamp the Rays of Light background stamp in Crushed Curry.
HINT: The easiest way to stamp a background stamp (for me at least) is to lay the stamp face up on your work space and stamp the ink on the stamp.
Carefully place your white cardstock on the stamped image.
Very carefully, rub the whole piece of cardstock to transfer the ink onto the cardstock.
I am making 6 more of these cards, and I used this process for all of the fronts I needed. Worked like a charm.
Stamp the Rays of Light on the envelope flap. Punch a 1-inch circle of coordinating DSP for the envelope seal.
I added a 1/2 inch by 4 inch piece of the Rays of Light stamped image to the bottom on the inside. This came from a piece I’d trimmed and didn’t need.
Stamp the chick on the inside panel as well so it looks like she is standing on the strip of sun rays.
I colored the chickens using the Daffodil Delight blends combo and the Pecan Pie Stamping Write Marker.
Using a new Wink of Stella pen, I dropped one drop of the ink onto my grid paper.
Then, I used an empty Wink of Stella pen to pick up the ink and color it on the Daffodil Delight parts of the chicken. Using an empty pen to “paint” the clear Wink of Stella has kept me from getting blobs on my coloring.
Crop the chicken using the Hey Chuck dies and the sentiment using the Stylish Shapes dies.
Outline the sentiment banner using a black Stamping Write Marker.
Add dimensionals to the sentiment and the chicken to adhere.
I adhered all the rest of the card pieces using multipurpose liquid glue.
Creating the Blocks:
I knew what I wanted to achieve, and just winged it with the dimensions. You don’t have to do that in order to recreate this card, no matter what paper patterns you use.
If you are using different DSP patterns, you need the following pieces:
2 of 2-1/2 by 2-5/8 inches
1 of 3-3/4 by 3/4 inches
1 of 3 x 1 inch
1 of 2-1/4 by 1-3/8 inches
1 of 1 by 1-3/8 inches
1 of 1/2 by 4 inches (bottom of inside)
If you are using all one pattern, I have some pictures for you. The pieces will be the same sizes, just cut differently for the one pattern.
My Sweet Sorbet cardstock cut into the above sizes.
The stamped Rays of Light in Crushed Curry.
AdTech removable tape is my favorite and can be purchased at Amazon. I can’t create cards without it, especially for dry-fitting card pieces together.
Use the removable tape to temporarily attach the Sweet Sorbet pieces over the stamped Rays of Light.
Next, I very, very carefully trimmed the cardstock along the pretrimmed lines in the Sweet Sorbet.
Next, I used a piece of black cardstock measuring 4-1/4 by 5-1/2 inches to adhere the Rays of Light stamp pieces back together. Here’s picture of this step in progress.
Once I had all my pieces adhered, I was able to trim the black cardstock down for the front of the card.
One step at a time, and you can do this as well.
