Congratulations! Time for Cardz 4 Guyz # 300

WOW!  The 300th challenge!  I’m honored to be a part of this design team, and this challenge.  For #300, Caz, our fearless leader, chose a completely  appropriate theme of Congratulations.  When you finish here, I hope you visit the Cardz 4 Guyz challenge site to see what the rest of the design team created for this special occasion.

Here’s my card:

This absolutely stinking adorable gnome and mushroom stamps and die come from the Kindest Gnome stamp set and Gnome dies, found in the new July –  mini-catalog.  There’s a whole suite for these gnomes, and they aren’t just for Christmas.

Here’s a look at the suite as shown in the introduction video from Stampin’ UP!

Cuteness Overload, right?  Love!

Measurements and Such:

  • The Evening Evergreen base measures 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
  • The background DSP measures 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches. I also trimmed a piece of the coordinating DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap. Using the grassy kind of die from the Gnomes die set, I cropped two grassy pieces using the same DSP as the envelope flap.
  • I used the second and third largest deckled rectangle dies to crop the Evening Evergreen frame.
  • Then, I used the second largest die to crop the vellum.
  • The white panel on the inside measures 4 by 5-1/4 inches.
  • After stamping the sentiment in Evening Evergreen, I cropped it using the Stylish Shapes dies (an absolute must have, in my opinion). Then, I outlined it using the Evening Evergreen marker.
  • That’s it for measurements.

Stamping and Coloring:

  • I stamped both the gnome and the mushroom using Momento Tuxedo Black ink on white cardstock.
  • I stamped the gnome on the inside panel of the card and on the front of the envelope flap. All three gnomes were colored the same way.
  • HINT: If you are going to use blends on the front of an envelope, make sure you put a piece of cardstock or a post-it note inside the envelope. This will prevent any bleeding of the blends from getting on the back of the envelope.
  • I used the light and dark Mango Melody blends to color the gnome’s sleeves as well as both windows.
  • Then, I followed the shading on the Gnome DSP to color the mushroom using the dark and light Soft Suede blends. I also colored the soles of the gnome’s shoes in Soft Suede.
  • Next, I used the Just Jade blends combo for the mushroom cap. I tried to recreate the dots on the DSP using the color lifter blend.
  • I used the Old Olive blends combo for the pants, and the outside of the hat. I just used the light blend to color the underside of his hat.
  • My new favorite skin tone is the SU500 marker in the skin tones set. I used it to color the gnome’s hands, nose and face. Then, I used the color lifter blend to just create a little bit of a light spot on his nose.
  • The Smoky Slate light blend worked for this cute guy’s beard. I didn’t want to color the whole thing, so I just followed the ink lines from the stamp and outlined the edges.
  • The last things I colored were his mouth and eyes. I also outlined the soles of his shoes and drew in black lines on the soles.

Assembly:

  • I used multipurpose liquid glue (my favorite adhesive) to adhere the DSP on the outside and the white cardstock panel on the inside
  • Then, I added a thin line of liquid glue to the underside of the Evening Evergreen frame, which allowed me to adhere the vellum to the back of the frame. Next, I added another thing line of glue to the vellum to adhere the whole frame to the DSP.
  • I put dimensionals under the sentiment, mushroom, grassy things, and the gnome, which gives the card depth and dimension.
  • Finally, I trimmed the DSP on the envelope flap and punched a 1 inch circle from the DSP on the front for my envelope seal.
  • With that, this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set was complete.

Cardz 4 Galz # 173 is All About the Sentiment

Welcome to the newest challenge from Cardz 4 Galz!  Dawn is hosting this challenge, #173, and chose the theme of using the sentiment as the focal point.  When you finish here, I hope you will hop over to the challenge site to see the cards created by the rest of the design team.  I hope you get inspired and play along with our challenge!

Here’s my card:

Amazing!

  • I used the new gorgeous blue In Color 2022 – 2024 called Starry Sky, and I just love it! The base measures 8-1/2 inches by 5-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
  • I trimmed a piece of the Sun Prints DSP to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches. for the envelope flap.
  • Since it’s important to use a 3D embossing folder before trimming the cardstock in order to get an accurate size, I stamped the image first using Starry Sky ink. This gorgeous tree comes from the Amazing Silhouettes cling stamp set.. After embossing it using the bark 3D embossing folder, I trimmed it to 5-1/4 inches by 4 inches.
  • I embossed another piece of white cardstock using the bark embossing folder. Then, I used the coordinating Amazing Thanks die set. This set includes the words themselves and the matching mats. Staying with my monochromatic color scheme, I cropped the mats from Starry Sky cardstock. After adhering the white and Starry Sky layers, I added mini-dimensionals underneath the matted words. I could’ve used the foam adhesive sheets for the height, but the minis did the trick easily.
  • While I had the white cardstock out, I trimmed a piece of white cardstock to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches for the inside of the card. I didn’t stamp a sentiment on the inside so this can be an all-occasion card.
  • Finally, I used a length of the new Starry Sky metallic woven ribbon around the white cardstock and tied it in a bow. In order to keep the bow in place and tied, I added a mini-glue dot beneath the bow.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card and envelope set.

Food and Drinks with Cardz 4 Galz #172

Welcome to the newest Cardz 4 Galz challenge!  For this C4Galz # 172, Claudia chose the theme of food and drinks.  I had to return to my tried and true Love You More stamp set and the Picture This die set for this one.  Do you know what it means when you only have one stamp set to meet any food and drinks challenge?  You guessed it!  Time to get more stamps!

When you finish here, I hope you will pop over to the Cardz 4 Galz challenge site to see all the other projects from the rest of the design team members.  They are awesome, and I hope they inspire you to play along!

Here’s my Love You More Than card:

Easy Peasy 30 Minutes or Less Card:

  • The Early Espresso base measures 8-1/2 inches by 5-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
  • There’s only one piece of DSP (designer series paper) in this card and envelope coordinated set, and it’s on the envelope flap. This paper measures 6 inches by 2-1/4 inches.
  • I used Very Vanilla for the middle layer because I really didn’t think that a chocolate chip cookie would be white. The piece of Very Vanilla cardstock measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches. The Very Vanilla cardstock for the inside of the card measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • First, I ran a piece of Pool Party cardstock through my cut and embossing machine using the circle Picture This die. Next, I used the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder, then I trimmed the cardstock to 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • Next, I used Early Espresso ink for the sentiment, coffee cup and cookie. I just stamped these inside the cropped out circles.
  • I did need to do a bit more planning for the candies so I could make sure I had the stamp centered inside the little circle. This is a two stamp process. First, I used Soft Suede ink for the candy. Next, I stamped Early Espresso over the candy pieces for the dark chocolate swirls.
  • Then, I embossed a scrap of Early Espresso cardstock using the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder. Then, I used the Picture This die to cut out the two circles.
  • Next, I lined up and stamped the inside sentiments in Early Espresso.
  • I didn’t use any dimensionals for this card. I simply adhered everything using (my fav!) multipurpose liquid adhesive for all the pieces.
  • With that, I’d completed this coordinated card and envelope set.

Happy Easter for Paper Craft Crew # 462

This will be my second post for Tuesday, but I am quite pleased with the card I made for the Paper Craft Crew challenge, which closes at 1 pm. Tuesday.  So, I am getting the card up and posted and go back and revise this blog entry tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon.  It’s just about midnight EDT and I have work in the morning.

Here’s my card:

The second image is when you first open the V-fold pop-up card.  The third image is with the V-fold pushed into the crease.  Both work and I hope my 2 year-old great nephew likes the card!

Be Back Tomorrow to finish!

Love Cards and Cardz 4 Guyz #289

Welcome to another Cardz 4 Guyz biweekly challenge# 289 chosen by Pamela. The theme, love cards, is wide open for interpretation and inspiration. After all, C4G encompasses all ages. When you finish here, I hope you will jump over to the challenge site. There’s so much inspiration from the design team, and I don’t want you to miss it.

I have been making Valentine’s Day cards for my 5 year old and 4 year old great-nieces and my 2 year old great-nephew to exchange with classmates. There’s a total of 50 cards, so I’ve been busy.

Here’s my “love card” for my great-nephew’s Valentine’s exchange card:

Here’s the back:

Measurements:

  • The Soft Succulent base of this post card Valentine’s Day card measures 3 inches by 5-1/2 inches.
  • I used white on the backs of all the Valentines, and they are the same size as the base of the card.
  • Thankfully, I had enough of the jungle DSP to do all the cards my great-nephew needs. Each piece of DSP measures 2-7/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • I stamped the images and sentiments using Momento Tuxedo Black ink. Then, I cropped the monkeys using the largest square from Stitched Shapes die set and one of the stitched rectangles for the sentiment.

Tips for Mass Producing Cards

  • When I first started mass producing cards, I would get all the elements stamped, cropped trimmed, etc. Then I would put all the individual cards together one at a time.
  • HINT: it’s much easier to get all the pieces needed first. During assembly, work on one thing at a time. For example, with this jungle card, I first trimmed all the bases, then the white for the back of the card. Next, I trimmed down all the DSP. Then I did all the stamping, front and back, and moved on to the coloring.
  • HINT #2: I’ve found that I need to make at least one more of each of the focal image blocks and sentiment blocks. That way, if I mess something up, I don’t have to pull out all the supplies again, which really slows down the whole process.
  • When it came time to use the blends for the monkeys and the vines, I first colored all the vines using the Soft Succulent blends combo.
  • Then, I went back and colored all the faces using the light Crumb Cale blend. Finally, I colored all the rest of the monkeys’ bodies using the dark Crumb Cake blend.
  • I did the same thing for assembly. First, I adhered all the white cardstock backs, then the square monkeys, then the sentiments. Finally, I added small black matte dots. I chose the small ones to avoid a choking hazard since the recipients will be around 2 years old.
  • For me, this assembly line way of mass producing cards seems to work out best.

Add Some Gold for the Sparkles Christmas Challenge

Welcome to the February Sparkles Christmas Challenge. The theme for this month is Add Some Gold. After you finish here, I hope you’ll hop over to the challenge post and see what inspiration you can find from the rest of the design team.

Here’s my card:

Non-traditional colors for Christmas are definitely my thing. For this card, I used Blackberry Bliss and gold. However, this specialty DSP (designer series paper) did not start out as Blackberry Bliss. Here’s a shot of the original DSP:

This DSP is from a couple of years ago and, after finishing this card, I am down to the last 6×8 inch piece of it. I’ve already made a few cards using this paper and the Night of Navy ink pad. For this card, I thought I’d try out the Blackberry Bliss.

Measurements:

  • The BlackBerry Bliss cardstock base measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches, s ores at 4-1/4 inches. Since I wanted to create a landscape card, the card winds up being a tent card.
  • There’s a gold foil mat that measures 5-3/8 inches by 4-1/8 inches. Foil is more expensive, so I cropped the middle of it out using a stitched rectangle die. No one will know there’s anything missing.
  • The top DSP layer Measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • I trimmed a piece of Blackberry Bliss DSP for the envelope flap. This piece measures 2-1/2 inches by 6 inches.
  • I used scrap blackberry bliss cardstock for the sentiment panel and matted it with a piece of gold foil. Since I am so frugal with my foils, I actually had a piece previously cropped and ready ti be use.
  • Using some rolled up glue dots, I attached the gold thread to the Blackberry Bliss ribbon. The result was a single bow with both the ribbon and gold thread.

Coloring the DSP

  • While I am fairly certain there are other ways to color this specialty DSP, I used a sponge brayer and the Blackberry Bliss ink pad.
  • This technique just takes patience. Start by lightly rolling the inked brayer back and forth on the DSP. I always have a paper towel handy in case I need to dab off some ink.
  • I think I put 3 or 4 layers on this DSP. It is much easier to add more ink on the DSP if you let it dry completely between layers.
  • That’s it. Big, big change with just a little bit of effort.

Thank you for stopping by my blog today!

Have a Peachy Day!
