Welcome to InKing Royalty’s June Blog Hop! As we prepare for the July 4 holiday ahead, we are sharing projects that celebrate the Red, White & Blue. Not all projects will be patriotic, but you are certain to be inspired by all of them. After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.
My hairstylist loves displaying cards I’ve made for her in her salon loft. Her birthday is next month, so I made her a red, white, and blue birthday card. She’ll keep it on display until my August hair appointment..
Without further ado, here’s my card:
Once again, I used the Sketch Saturday challenge for the layout of this card. I posted a Father’s Day card using this layout on Monday and you can find that card here. This red, white, and blue version came together very quickly since I already had the measurements figured out.
Here’s the challenge banner from Sketch Saturday:
Measurements:
The Real Red base measures 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 to create a tent fold card.
I ran a piece of white cardstock through my cut and emboss machine using the brick 3D embossing folder. Then, I trimmed it to 4-18 by 5-3/8 inches.
The Sun Prints blue and white piece of DSP (designer series paper) used for the first layer measures 3-1/2 by 3-3/8 inches. I chose this pattern because I thought it kind of looked like fireworks. Then, I trimmed a piece of this DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
Next, I trimmed the red cardstock to 2-3/4 by 3-3/8 inches after I ran it through the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder.
The Starry Sky speckled DSP measures 2-1/2 by 3-1/8 inches. Next, punched a 1-inch circle from this DSP to use for the envelope seal..
This fun sentiment on the front comes from the Hello Ladybug stamp set. I stamped the sentiment on white cardstock using Starry Sky ink. Then I cropped the sentiment and the red cardstock using the stylish shapes die set. After adhering the two squares using multipurpose liquid glue, I put dimensionals under the red square.
I used the same die set to crop the red banner sticking out from the left side of the card.
The inside sentiment, “Best Wishes and Happy Thoughts”, comes from the Nature’s Prints stamp set. I stamped it using Starry Sky on white cardstock.
Next, I added red dots on the left side of the card and on all four corners of the sentiment panel.
Finally, I tied a bunny-ears bow using the Starry Sky metallic woven ribbon and adhered it with a glue dot.

Welcome to the Cardz 4 Guyz challenge #298. Our host, Caz, chose Father’s Day for our theme, which is June 19th here in the States. When you are finished here, I hope you will hop over to the challenge site to see what the rest of the design team created. Then, I hope you are inspired to join in the challenge fun. I can’t wait to see what you upload to our gallery!
Through commenting on gallery submissions, I’ve been introduced to new-to-me challenges. I found my inspiration for the layout from a new-to-me challenge, Sketch Saturday #702.
Here’s my card:
Here’s the challenge banner from Sketch Saturday:
It actually took me longer to figure out what DSP (designer series paper) patterns I wanted to use than it did to create the card. I enjoyed the sketch so much that I used it for my card for the InKing Royalty Blog Hop, which goes live Wednesday morning.
Measurements:
The Evening Evergreen base measures 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 to create a tent fold card.
The plaid Evening Evergreen piece of DSP (from the 6×6 inch In Color DSP) measures 3-1/2 by 3-3/8 inches.
I used the 12 x 12 inch He’s the Man DSP for the rest of the patterned paper. First, I trimmed the background Sahara Sand print to 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches. You can’t see it, but I punched out a 1 inch circle for the envelope seal. It doesn’t matter because no one can see the hole in the background DSP.
Next, I trimmed the Early Espresso to 2-3/4 by 3-3/8 inches.
The fun camping DSP measures 2-1/2 inches by 3-1/8 inches. I also trimmed a piece of this DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
Then, I trimmed a piece of Soft Succulent cardstock to 2-5/8 inches by 3-1/4 inches.
Using the Stylish Shapes die set, I cropped a banner out of white cardstock and the background Sahara Sand DSP.
Instead of using white cardstock for the inside panel, I trimmed a piece of Sahara Sand cardstock to 4 by 5-1/4 inches. The Sahara Sand cardstock is light enough to write on and isn’t as stark as white cardstock would’ve been.
That’s it for the measurements!
What I Did:
I wanted the camping DSP to stamp out from the Soft Succulent cardstock. Therefore, I used the brush end of my Soft Succulent marker to outline both the DSP and the cardstock. The effect is subtle, but clearly defines the ends of both papers.
I used multipurpose glue to adhere all the patterned DSP down.
The sketch calls for a bow on the right side of the center panel. However, this Dad card didn’t need a bow. I used a length of linen thread and folded it back and forth so I had 4 pieces. Believe me, it is much easier to tie a knot before cutting the ends loose, so that’s what I did. One mini-glue dot adhered the knot to the right side of the center DSP.
Both the inside and outside sentiments come from the Happy and Heartfelt stamp set. I just love the font used for this set of 15 sentiments. I used Evening Evergreen ink for both sentiments.
In order to have the Sahara Sand DSP show on either end of the white sentiment banner, I simply cut it in half and adhered them to the ends of the sentiment banner. Next, I added dimensionals under the banner to accommodate the linen thread and adhered it down.
Following the challenge sketch, I added two Evening Evergreen matte dots to the top, left-hand side of the card. My sense of balance really wanted me to add a third dot to form an eye-pleasing triangle. Therefore, I added a small matte dot to the end of the white cardstock banner.
Finally, I adhered the Sahara Sand cardstock to the inside of the card using multipurpose liquid glue.
With that, this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set was complete.
Here are just a few of my favorite new things, and about half of which arrived Monday! I’ve already been playing with my new goodies. I’m also working on a pre-order from the upcoming July – December mini-catalog. Fun times!!

Welcome to the new Cardz 4 Galz challenge! Billie A, our host for this two week challenge, chose 2 or more DSP patterns for the theme. When you are finished here, I hope you will visit the challenge blog to see what the rest of the design team has created. There’s lots of inspiration, and I hope you play along with us!
I decided to use the 6 x 6 inch DSP for the new In Colors for my card. The Natural Prints bundle seemed to be a good choice for these bright 2022 – 2024 In Colors.
Here’s my card:
As a design team member, I really enjoy looking at and commenting on the entries in our galleries. Another perk is that I get introduced to new challenges through the gallery entries, and that’s how I found the Sketch Saturday challenge blog. Here’s the sketch I used for inspiration:
Measurements:
I actually had looked at the wrong page in my planner and thought I needed to make a card used rectangles. However, that challenge isn’t until the end of the month. <shrugging my shoulders> Therefore, with triangles in mind, I decided to used Parakeet Party and Starry Sky accented by Sweet Sorbet DSPs.
The Starry Sky base measures 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
After I ran a piece of white cardstock through my cut and emboss machine using the Fern 3D embossing folder, I trimmed it to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
The Sweet Sorbet DSP mat measures 5-3/8 by 2-1/8 inches. I also used this DSP for the envelope flap, and that measures 6 by 2-1/2 inches.
Then, I trimmed both the Parakeet Party and Starry Sky DSP patterns down to a 2 inch strip. From there, I trimmed three 2 inch squares from each DSP pattern. Next, I cut the two inch squares in half diagonally to create triangles.
I played around with the arrangement of the triangles and finally decided to create parallelograms using the triangles. (Yes, I am that math person and I’ve loved the word “parallelogram” from the time I learned the name of the shape.)
What I Did:
Using the Nature’s Prints stamp set, I stamped the largest spray of leaves in Sweet Sorbet twice. One spray was cropped using the coordinating die and I stamped one on the piece of white cardstock for the inside.
I did the same thing with Starry Sky ink for the wheat-looking sprays. I cropped two for the outside of the card, and stamped one on the white cardstock for the inside.
Then, I stamped the front of the envelope to match the inside card panel.
The sentiment also comes from this same stamp set, and I cropped it using the label in the die set. I wanted the label to stand out from the white embossed background, so I outlined it using my Sweet Sorbet marker.
Next, I added some tear and tape to the back of the Sweet Sorbet DSP panel and cut two lengths of the metallic ribbon. I used a glue dot in the center of the DSP panel so I could create the X with ribbon. The tear and tape on the back held the ends of the lengths of ribbon in place.
I only put dimensionals on the bac of the Sweet Sorbet spray and the sentiment label. My fave adhesive, multipurpose liquid glue, adhered everything else.
I added five of the brushed brass butterflies to the front of the card to finish it off.
After punching a 1 inch circle from the Starry Sky DSP for the envelope seal, I ran it through my XYRON create-a-sticker.
With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and seal set.
Thank you very much for stopping by my blog today!
