Have a Peachy Day with Make My Monday

Welcome to the new Make My Monday challenge! Our host for MMM #175, Mary V., chose fruits and vegetables for the theme. When you finish here, I hope you will check out the MMM challenge blog post And get inspired to play along! See you in the gallery!

When I started looking through my Stampin’ Up! products, i realized i only have one stamp set with fruits and vegetables outside of pumpkin stamps. You know what that means —— time to get some new sets!

Here’s my peachy card:

Measurements and Such

  • The Pear Pizazz base measures 8-1/2 5-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/2 inches.
  • Next, I ran the Calypso Coral cardstock through my cut and emboss machine using the brick 3D embossing folder. Then, I trimmed the cardstock to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
  • The peach DSP (designer series paper) measures 3 by 5-1/4 inches. I also trimmed a piece to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • Next, I adhered the DSP directly to the Calypso Coral cardstock using multipurpose liquid glue.
  • I stamped the sentiment onto a piece of scrap Pear Pizazz cardstock using VersaMark ink.
  • Then, I covered the sentiment with white embossing powder and heat set it with my heat tool. After cropping the sentiment using the scalloped contour die set, I added dimensionals to the underside.
  • I wrapped a length of retired white ribbon from my jar of leftovers around the card and adhered it on the back with tear and tape. Then, I folded some baker’s twine 4 times and tied it in a square knot around the ribbon.
  • I tried using three bee trinkets, but just one worked better. Less is more in this case.
  • The white cardstock for the inside of the card measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. Since I wanted to use this as an all-occasion card, I left the inside blank.
  • Finally, I punched a 1 inch circle from coordinating DSP and ran it through my XYRON create-a-sticker to make the envelope seal.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

Flowering Fields for MMM #174

Welcome to the newest Make My Monday challenge!  Caz chose the theme of springtime for challenge #174.  When you finish here, I hope you will pop over to the challenge site and be inspired by the projects created by the rest of the design team.  I’m always blown away by the talent these wonderful ladies present for each and every challenge.

Yesterday was Mother’s Day in the U.S., and I am sharing my card for my mom.  I went with clean and simple with a gorgeous color combination of Poppy Parade, Pool Party, and white.  At first, I wasn’t sold on the Flowering Fields DSP (designer series paper).  However, I’m now in love and am going to be ordering this DSP quickly before it goes away when the mini-catalog sales period ends.  I can see myself using this color combination over and over in the next few months.  The DSP does all the work on this card.

Here’s my card:

Measurements and Such:

  • I started with a Poppy Parade base measuring 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, and scored it at 5-1/2 inches.
  • The white cardstock layer on the outside measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches. I cropped the sentiment from the center of that cardstock since no one will see the ugly center.
  • I started with a 4 inch by 5-1/4 inch piece of white cardstock for the inside panel as well. Then I used the scalloped die from the Scalloped Contour dies. I did eyeball the placement of the die so it would be relatively even on both ends.
  • The Flowering Fields DSP on the front measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. I outlined the DSP with the brush end of my Poppy Parade marker.
  • Next, I trimmed a piece of coordinating DSP from the Flowering Fields papers to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap. I used the same DSP for the inside of the card. That piece measures 5-1/4 inches by 1-1/2 inches.
  • This Poppy Parade ribbon is too thick, for the lack of a better word, for a bow. However, it works beautifully for a square knot.
  • The outside sentiment comes from the Strong and Beautiful stamp set. I used a sentiment from In Your Words for the inside. Even though it’s probably a birthday sentiment, it works for Mother’s Day as well.
  • I used a piece of leftover Pool Party cardstock for the mat of the outside sentiment.
  • Using my dark Pool Party blend, I colored three basic pearls to match the color combination.
  • Finally, I trimmed the DSP on the envelope flap, punched a 1 inch circle and ran it through my XYRON create-a-sticker for the envelope seal. With that, this coordinated card, envelope, and seal set was complete.

Thank you very much for stopping by my blog today!

Happy Birthday for MMM # 173 and TSOT #552

Welcome to the Make My Monday challenge # 173.  Debbie chose happy birthday for this two-week challenge theme.  When you are finished here, I hope you will pop over to the Make My Monday challenge site to see what the rest of the design team created.

Here’s my birthday card using the Try Stampin’ on Tuesday sketch challenge #552:

When I started thinking about this theme, I decided that I would only use “scraps” from my Pool Party, Basic White, and Basic Black stash.  I keep my cardstock sheets in letter sized file folders in alphabetical order.  Each color’s file folder has an 8 x 8 inch page protector for “scraps”.  I’m a teacher and a crafter, so I don’t stand a chance when it comes to keeping things I might use some day.  This card is proof I can and will use my leftovers.  A bit more on that in just a minute.

First, here’s the sketch I used for inspiration:

I hope you can see the sketch in the front panel of my fun fold Z-card.

Measurements and Leftovers:

  • As I said, just about everything came from my leftovers in the 8 x 8 inch page protectors. I did need to use a piece of white cardstock for the inside panel, a black dot, and 4 1/2 inch circles for the center of the daisy.
  • I already had the Pool Party base leftover and scored just the way I needed it. The base measures 8-1/2 inches by 5-1/2 inches. It was already scored at 4-1/4 inches and 2-1/8 inches to create the z-fold.
  • The two daisy pieces were punched already, and the white layer was already dry embossed
  • I had the black frame leftover from cropping out the center for another project. The black cardstock for the sentiment also came from leftovers.
  • All I needed to do for all the DSP pieces was trim them down to size. Like I said, I keep all kinds of pieces, and the black cardstock leftovers finally came in handy. Even the 4-1/8 inch by 5-3/8 inch black cardstock for the bottom layer is a leftover from a previous project. You can’t see it now, but there’s a rectangle cropped from the middle that I’d used on a previous project.
  • Even the Pool Party for the front framed area used to live in my leftover page protector. However, I did need to run it through my cut and emboss machine using the Subtle embossing folder.

Try Stampin’ on Tuesday

  • In order to be in line with the TSOT sketch challenge, I used white baker’s twine at the top of the front panel. I folded the twine three times, wrapped it around the frame and tied it in a bow. So much easier than trying to wrap it around three times and tie off a tiny bow. I used a glue dot to keep the bow in place.
  • The sentiment, from the Hello Ladybug cling stamp set, was stamped in VersaMark then heat set using white embossing powder.
  • The inside sentiment comes from the Biggest Wish photopolymer stamp set.
  • I did have to scrounge to find a leftover piece of DSP for the envelope flap. The basic gray DSP does come from a leftover piece of DSP. Once I found it, I trimmed it to 2-1/2 inches by 6 inches for the envelope flap.
  • I used mini-dimensionals under each white petal of the daisy. I used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere everything else.
  • After double-checking the inspiration sketch, I realized I needed something in the lower, right-hand corner. I grabbed my matte black dots, and finished the card.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card and envelope set. I stayed true to the challenge I gave myself in that I used all but two leftovers.

Thank you very much for stopping by my blog today!

Have a Peachy Day!

Where’s the Washi Tape? MMM#172

Welcome to the new two-week challenge from Make My Monday, #172.  Our host for #172, Dawn, chose washi tape as the theme for the challenge.   Therefore, this challenge really required me to think outside the box because I have two rolls of washi, both of which are almost out.

See if you can figure out where I used washi tape on my card:

If you guessed on the “thanks” sentiment die, you guessed correctly. Here’s the washi tape I used:

A Basic Card with a Thankful Message:

I finally ordered the Amazing Thanks die set and decided it would work for this card.

  • I started by layering stripes of the washi tape on a piece of scrap white cardstock. Since the rows of dots are spaced out, I placed the silver tape so that each stripe would allow some of the polka dots to show.
  • Then, I cropped out four more “thanks” pieces so I could layer them for a 3D effect. I did this mainly because I didn’t want to deal with dimensionals or the foam adhesive sheets when I was working on the card. The resulting sentiment turned out just like the picture I had of it in my head.
  • The Just Jade base of the card measures 8-1/2 inches by 5-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches to form a tent card.
  • After running a piece of the Bumblee cardstock through the cut and emboss machine using the Subtles embossing folder, I trimmed it to 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • Next, I cropped out the center using a stitched rectangle die to use as a mat for the sentiment. I used Bumblebee ink and the Artfully Layered stamp set to add the leaves to the cardstock mat.
  • The Artfully Layered DSP (designer series paper) measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. I outlined it using a black Stamping Write Marker to make it pop off the Bumblebee layer. I also trimmed a piece of the DSP to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.

Finishing Up:

  • Then, I wrapped a piece of the Just Jade chevron ribbon around the DSP and tied it on the right in a bow. I used a mini-glue dot to secure the bow to the DSP.
  • I already had the palm frond cropped and added it under the raised sentiment.
  • The sentiment mat is the only thing on dimensionals for this card. I put them there to accommodate the ribbon. My favorite adhesive, the multipurpose liquid adhesive, adhered everything else.
  • After I trimmed the DSP on the envelope flap and made the envelope seal, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and seal set.

Thank you very much for stopping by my blog today! I hope you will play along with this washi tape challenge!

Have a Peachy Day!

Sue

Use a Stencil for Make My Monday # 171

Welcome to the Make My Monday challenge # 171.  Meg chose the theme of using a stencil for challenge #171.  I used a cloud stencil, mixed in with Easter Friends, flowers from Sweet as a Peach, and the scallop contour dies.  When you finish here, I hope you will check out the challenge site because the design team members’ cards are all fabulous!

Here’s my double easel fun fold Easter card:

After my first try at a double easel fold card, I decided I needed to find a video so I could get the measurements correct.  I found a great double easel fun fold video from Mary Deatherage at Stamps-n-Lingers.  Once I used her measurements to get the fold started, I was off and running on my own.

What I Used:

  • I used Balmy Blue for the base of the card. Since I did follow Mary’s directions, I used white cardstock for the easel part of the card.
  • I used another piece of Balmy Blue measuring 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches for the base of the cloud stencil. The cloud stencil came from the Pattern Party Decorative Masks. In order to make the whole stenciling process easier, I used removable tape to temporarily adhere the Balmy Blue cardstock to a piece of grid paper. Then, I laid the stencil over the cardstock and used washi tape to keep it in one place while stenciling.
  • I started the stenciling process using Staz-On white ink and a piece of a foam sponge. However, I wasn’t happy with the result so I grabbed my white craft ink refill and I squeezed out some ink onto my silicone mat. Using the same piece of foam sponge, I started dabbing the clouds with the craft ink. The results are a brighter white than I was getting from the Staz-On.
  • HINT: Don’t use the Staz-On ink if you don’t have Staz-On ink remover. You just have to believe me on this one.

Easter Friends

  • Next, I stamped all three Easter friends on white cardstock using Tuxedo Black ink. I used the light Smoky Slate blend to color just the already shaded areas of the stamped bunny. Then I went back in with the bullet end of a black marker to enhance the shadow lines and to outline the bunny.
  • I used the Daffodil Delight blends combo for both chicks. I wanted the beaks and feet to be a light color, so I used the dark Pale Papaya blend for those parts.
  • All three of those Easter friends had to be fussy cut, but it didn’t take long at all.

Sweet as a Peach

  • The Sweet as a Peach bundle came in very handy for the stems and flowers. I started with white cardstock and stamped Granny Apple Green for the stems. Then, I used the Daffodil Delight ink to stamp the flowers. I am a huge fan of Black-eyed Susan flowers, and wanted these flowers to have a black center. Thankfully, the Sweet as a Peach stamp set has a tiny center stamp for the flowers. Score!
  • Next, I embossed a piece of Granny Apple Green cardstock using the (now retired) Subtle embossing folder. Then, I cropped 4 sets of scallops from the cardstock.

Assembly:

I  used quite a number of dimensionals on this card.  All three Easter friends, the back layer of leaves/stems and flowers, the bottom layer of each of the scalloped “grass” pieces, and the sentiment are adhered with dimensionals.

I adhered the rest of the pieces using multipurpose liquid glue (my favorite adhesive).

For the envelope, I randomly stamped the flowers on the flap using Daffodil Delight and the black ink for the centers.

On the front of the envelope, I stamped part of the stem stamp on the lower left-hand corner of the envelope.  Finally, I stamped three Daffodil Delight flowers with the black centers.

With that, I’d finished this coordinated fun fold card and envelope.

Thank you very much for stopping by my blog today!

Have a Peachy Day!

Sue

A Color Challenge for MMM # 170

Welcome to the Make My Monday #170 challenge!  Jackie chose a color challenge using blue, purple, and yellow for #170.  When you are finished here, I hope you will visit the challenge website to see the projects from the rest of the design team members.  I’m always amazed at how much variety these projects contain.

Here’s my Gorgeous Grape, Pool Party, and Daffodil Yellow Easter card:

I am going to need a number of Easter cards, and after this weekend, I have a good start on my stash.  This Hand-penned Flowers DSP (designer series paper) is gorgeous and the art work and colors on each pattern are stunning.

Measurements:

  • The Gorgeous Grape base measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches to form a tent card.
  • In order to meet the blue part of the challenge, I added a Pool Party mat under the scalloped contours die cut. The Pool Party mat measures 3-7/8 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • Next, I trimmed a piece of the DSP to 3-3/8 inches by 4-3/4 inches. It fits perfectly on the inside part of the scalloped contour die cut. I used the Gorgeous Grape Stampin’ Write marker to outline the DSP.
  • I also trimmed a piece of the DSP to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.

Putting the Card Together:

  • Now for the stamping – I started by stamping both the floral spray and the sentiment using the Momento Tuxedo Black ink pad.
  • Instead of using the stamps for the inside of the flowers and leaves, I colored them in with Stampin’ Blends. I used the light and dark Highland Heather blends for the flowers. Since there’s only one center of a flower, I just used the light Daffodil Delight blend. Finally, I only used the light Mint Macaron blend to color the leaves. I wanted the Highland Heather flowers to stand out for the color challenge.
  • After stamping the sentiment on a scrap piece of white cardstock, I cropped it using a stitched rectangle die. I also outlined the sentiment panel using the Gorgeous Grape marker.
  • Next, I wrapped a piece of the sheer Gorgeous Grape ribbon around the DSP and tied it in a square knot.
  • I popped up the sentiment and floral spray on dimensionals. I used the multipurpose liquid glue to adhere everything else.
  • Finally, I added three In Color 2021 – 2023 rhinestones to the card. One is on the sentiment panel, the other two are on the centers of a couple of daisies.
  • HINT: When using embellishments like the rhinestones, try to keep them in a triangle shape. The triangle is pleasing to the eye and keeps your eye moving from one side of the card to the other.
  • After I trimmed the DSP on the envelope flap and made the envelope seal, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

Thank you very much for stopping by my blog today!

Have a Peachy Day!
