Reds & Pinks for Cardz 4 Galz #217

Welcome to the Cardz 4 Galz challenge #217! I’m the host for this challenge, and I chose reds and pinks for the theme. I”d be honored to have you play along with us and upload your creations to our gallery. Please don’t forget to visit the challenge website to see the fabulous creations from the rest of the design team members.

Here’s my card:

Measurements:

  • The Poppy Parade base measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
  • The white cardstock mat measures 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
  • AFTER I ran a piece of Poppy Parade through my Cut & Emboss machine using the 3D exposed brick embossing folder, I trimmed it to 4 by 5-1/4 inches.
  • The white mat under the DSP (designer series paper) measures 2-5/8 inches by 4-7/8 inches.
  • I trimmed a piece of Garden Walk DSP to 2-1/2 by 4-3/4 inches.
  • Trim a coordinating piece of DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • Next, punch a piece of DSP using a 1-inch whole punch and run it through the XYRON create-a-sticker for the envelope flap.
  • I used a piece of scrap Poppy Parade cardstock for the sentiment label.
  • The white cardstock for the inside measures 4 by 5-1/4 inches.
  • You’ll need another piece of white cardstock for the daisies. Don’t tell anyone, but I cropped the daisies from the white cardstock mat under the embossed Poppy Parade cardstock. No one will know and you can be frugal with your cardstock.

Assembly:

  • Adhere the white cardstock mat to the base of the card using multipurpose liquid glue.
  • Center the dry-embossed Poppy Parade cardstock on the white cardstock mat and adhere using liquid glue.
  • After adhering the Garden Walk DSP to the white cardstock mat, wrap a piece of white ribbon around the layers and tie in a square knot.
  • Add glue dots to the corners of the white cardstock layer and then apply liquid glue. Adhere to the dry-embossed piece of Poppy Parade.
  • HINT: I added glue dots to the corners and also used liquid glue so I wouldn’t need to use dimensionals to accommodate the ribbon.
  • After cropping the daisies using the Cheerful Daisy dies, I ran it through my Cut & Emboss machine using one of the basics embossing folders. The set of three basics embossing folders are available in the online exclusives products.
  • Wipe a piece of Poppy Parade cardstock using your embossing buddy, and then stamp the sentiment using VersaMark ink.
  • After adding white embossing powder to the ink, heat set it with your heat tool.
  • Crop the sentiment using the label die from Cheerful Daisies die set.
  • Add dimensionals under the daisies and adhere to the front of the card.
  • Use liquid glue to adhere the sentiment to the top of the daisies.
  • Stamp your sentiment for the inside on the white cardstock using Poppy Parade ink.
  • After you stamp your sentiment, adhere the inside white cardstock using liquid glue.
  • HINT: I’ve learned that I need to stamp the sentiment before I adhere the inside cardstock. Cardstock has two sides for a reason, and if you stamp before you adhere, you can easily try again on the back of the cardstock. Trust me on this.
  • With that, I’d completed this easy-peasy coordinated birthday card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

Thank you for stopping by today!

Going on Safari with Cardz 4 Galz #216

Welcome to the first bi-weekly Cardz 4 Galz challenge for 2024! Our host for this challenge, Dawn W., chose On Safari as the theme. When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge site to see how the rest of the design team members used sequins in their projects. We always love it when you play along with our themes, so please remember to upload your project to our gallery.

Here’s my On Safari card:

Measurements:

  • The Old Olive base measures 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
  • The Old Olive cardstock frame piece measures 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
  • I used two pieces of white cardstock, each measuring 4 by 5-1/4 inches. One is under the frame on the front and the other is on the inside of the card.
  • I trimmed a piece of Sweet Sorbet 6 x 6 inch DSP (designer series paper) to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • Then I punched a 1-inch circle of Old Olive 6 x 6 inch DSP and ran it through my XYRON create-a-sticker.
  • That’s it for the measurements.

Stamping and Coloring:

  • After running the frame piece of Old Olive cardstock through the Cut & Emboss machine using the Stitched Greenery die, I used the Stylish Shapes dies for the banner and the four squares on the frame.
  • Using Pecan Pie ink, I stamped the vines and branches on the white cardstock for the front.
  • HINT: line up the frame piece of cardstock on top of the white cardstock. I used a pencil to very, very lightly mark the corners of each square so I knew where to stamp the vines and branches. After stamping, and letting the ink dry thoroughly, I carefully erased the corner marks. I did the same thing for the sentiment banner.
  • I used the Old Olive and Pecan Pie markers to color the vines and branches.
  • Then I stamped the sentiment in Momento Tuxedo Black ink and let it thoroughly dry before erasing the pencil marks.
  • Using a 4-1/4 by 5-1/2 inch piece of white cardstock, I stamped one monkey, then punched it out. Then I repeated the process three more times.
  • HINT: By stamping and punching one monkey at a time I was able to minimize the waste, which left me with a decent size leftover piece.
  • I colored the monkeys using the Crumb Cake combo blends markers. Then, I added rosy cheeks and touches of pink in the ears using the lightest natural tone blend.
  • Using the trio of bows die from the Playing in the Rain die set, I cropped four Sweet Sorbet bows for the monkeys. Cute!
  • Since the front sentiment allows this card to be an all-occasion card, I didn’t stamp a sentiment on the inside. I will do so when I decide for which occasion I will use this card.

Assembly:

  • I wanted to make sure that the frame didn’t collapse on itself, so I lined the frame of the Old Olive cardstock frame using foam adhesive strips.
  • Between the sentiment banner and the squares I added mini-dimensionals.
  • Next, I adhered the white cardstock to the adhesive strips on the frame.
  • Using multipurpose liquid glue, I adhered the white cardstock to the base of the card.
  • Then, I used liquid glue to adhere the adorable bows to the monkeys.
  • After dry-fitting the monkeys, I carefully added liquid glue to the pieces of the monkeys that would be on the outside of the frame.
  • I added two mini-dimensionals under each monkey to adhere it to the white cardstock.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Have a Peachy Day!

A Cityscape Fun Fold for Cardz 4 Galz #213

Welcome back to the Cardz 4 Galz bi-weekly challenge! A big shout out to those who played along with challenge #212, and we hope you will play along with #213 as well. Our host for this challlenge, Debbie, chose a Cityscape for the theme. When you finish here, please visit the challenge site to see the creations from the rest of the design team members. We’d love to see what you were inspired to create in our gallery!

Here’s my z-fold cityscape card:

I really enjoy z-fold cards and think they are one of the easy-peasy fun folds. I don’t know why I never thought to have 4 equal panels on the z-card. However, I wound up down the rabbit hole of videos (you know how you just keep clicking until you have no idea where you went) and saw this. Now, I don’t remember where. If I can find the video again, I will come back and update this post.

Easy-Peasy Does It:

  • The Balmy Blue base measures 8-1/2 by 5-1/2, and scored at 2-1/8 and 4-1/4 inches.
  • Use a bone folder to burnish the folds. This will help the card to sit flatter when closed.
  • The black mats under the Les Shoppes DSP (designer series paper) each measure 1-7/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
  • The black mat behind the single store on the front measures 3-7/8 by 2-3/8 inches.
  • The two white cardstock panels on the inside measure 5-3/8 by 2 inches.
  • The two DSP panels each measure 1-7/8 by 5-1/4 inches.
  • I trimmed another piece of Les Shoppes DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • Then, I punched a 1-inch circle of DSP for the envelope seal and ran it through my XYRON create-a-sticker machine.
  • I used scrap Balmy Blue cardstock for the sentiment on the front.

Assembly:

  • The only place I used dimensionals was under the sentiment on the front. I used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the rest of the pieces.
  • Adhere the DSP panels to the black cardstock mats.
  • Adhere the mats to the front panel and the right back inside panel of the card.
  • Adhere the single shoppe to the black cardstock piece.
  • Using liquid glue on just the left side of the shoppe panel, adhere it to the front flap of the card. Make sure that the shoppe will overlap about halfway.
  • HINT: You only want to add liquid glue to one half of the shoppe panel. If you do happen to forget that little tidbit of information, you can fix the OOPS! with another piece of black cardstock. I may, or may not, have to do that for this card.
  • Stamp the sentiments using Momento Tuxedo Black ink on the scrap of Balmy Blue and one of the white cardstock inside panels. I used the Charming Sentiments stamp set and coordinating dies. I’ve always wished that I could fussy cut around sentiments so they look perfect, but that’s not my strong suit. I love this stamp and die set because each sentiment has a coordinating die.
  • Crop the front sentiment and add dimensionals underneath it.
  • Adhere to the shoppe on the front.
  • HINT: Stamp your sentiment for the inside of the card BEFORE you adhere the cardstock to the base of the card. That way, you can easily turn the cardstock over and restamp it if necessary.
  • Adhere both white cardstock panels to the inside of the card.
  • With that, I’d finished this easy-peasy coordinated stamp, envelope, and envelope seal stamp set.

Autumn Leaves, Embossing, & Cardz 4 Galz #212

Welcome back to the Cardz 4 Galz challenge, # 212! Our host for this time, Helen chose dry or wet embossing techniques as the theme. When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge site to see the projects from the rest of the design team members. Of course, we’d love for you to play along with us and post your creations in the gallery.

For this challenge, I chose to use the Autumn Leaves bundle, burlap ribbon, and coordinating specialty DSP (design series paper). I’m still making Thanksgiving cards, which I need to finish before next week. I’ve used this sentiment on most of the cards, with a simple Happy Thanksgiving sentiment on the inside.

Here’s my card:

Measurements:

  • The Pretty Peacock base measures 11 by 4-1/4 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches to create a tent fold card.
  • The oxidized copper specialty DSP measures 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches. I cropped the banner behind the sentiment label on the front from this piece of DSP. No one will see the ugly underneath.
  • AFTER I dry embossed the piece of Very Vanilla cardstock using one of the basics embossing folders, I trimmed it to 4 by 5-1/4 inches.
  • HINT: When using embossing folders, I highly recommend that you trim your paper after you dry emboss it, especially with 3D embossing folders. The embossing is so deep, if you trim your paper first, you will wind up with a smaller piece of cardstock than you wanted.
  • I trimmed a piece of the oxidized copper and Pretty Peacock DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • Then, I punched a 1-inch circle of coordinating DSP and ran it through my XYRON create-a-sticker for the envelope seal.

Stamping, Cropping & Embossing:

  • All of the dies and stamps I used come from the Autumn Leaves bundle.
  • Stamp the double leaves in Pretty Peacock onto Pretty Peacock cardstock or DSP and crop.
  • I cropped the large maple leaf from the copper and Pretty Peacock specialty DSP.
  • Both twig sprays were cropped from copper foil specialty DSP scraps that I had left over from previous projects.
  • The large piece maple leaf veins (for a lack of a better descriptor) was cropped from Pretty Peacock cardstock.
  • After wiping down a scrap piece of Very Vanilla cardstock with my embossing buddy, I stamped the sentiment in VersaMark.
  • Then, I covered the VersaMark with copper embossing powder and heat set it.
  • Next, I cropped it using one of the dies from the bundle.

Let the Layering Begin:

  • My adhesive of choice is the TomBow multipurpose liquid glue. I’m kind of obsessed with making sure that I will never run out of it and always have at least 15 tubes waiting to be opened. It’s a great item to add to your cart when you are so close to the $150 (US) dollars purchase needed for Stampin’ Rewards.
  • The dry embossed Very Vanilla cardstock was adhered to the oxidized copper DSP using multipurpose liquid glue.
  • Then I adhered the layers to the Pretty Peacock base.
  • I used liquid glue to adhere the double leave and copper foil twig sprays to the cardfront.
  • Then I used some glue dots to adhere the burlap ribbon on top of those cropped pieces.
  • Adhere the Pretty Peacock leaf veins to the cropped maple leaf.
  • Add dimensionals to the back of the maple leaf and adhere on top of the ribbon.
  • Adhere the sentiment label to the cropped oxidized copper DSP.
  • Add dimensionals to the bottom of the sentiment labels. Use liquid glue to adhere the top of the sentiment label to the maple leaf.
  • I finished it off with three small speckled Copper Clay dots on the top, right side of the card.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

Thank you for stopping by today.

A Thankful Cardz 4 Galz #211

Welcome back to the Cardz 4 Galz challenge! Our host for challenge # 211, Lynda, chose thank you, or thankful, or Thanksgiving for our theme. I am still working on the Thanksgiving cards I will need, so that’s what I created. When you are finished here, I hope you will visit the challenge site to see the fabulous creations made by the rest of the design team members. We’d love to see your creations, so don’t forget to upload them to our gallery.

Here’s my most recent Thanksgiving card:

For the life of me, I can’t remember which sketch challenge inspired this card. I can see the sketch in my mind, but neglected to write down to which challenge it belongs. I’ve tried searching (and searching) for it to no avail.

Measurements:

  • The Cajun Craze base measures 4-1/4 by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches.
  • The All About Autumn DSP (designer series paper) measures 4-1//8 by 5-3/8 inches.
  • I trimmed a coordinating piece of the Autumn DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • I punched a 1-inch circle from coordinating cardstock to use for the envelope seal. Run the 1-inch circle through your XYRON create-a-sticker for the seal.
  • The Countryside Corners die is cropped from a piece of 4-1/4 by 5-1/2 inch Cajun Craze cardstock.
  • HINT: If you crop the Countryside Corner die from the middle of the piece of cardstock, you will have a piece leftover that you can use as a mat for another card. Once you cover the cardstock, no one will be able to see the ugly empty space.
  • Trim a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock to 4 by 5-1/4 inches for the inside of the card.
  • Use a scrap of Very Vanilla for the sentiment panel.
  • I cropped 4 of the 2 stem pieces and one of the leaf spray from Crushed Curry cardstock.

Assembly:

  • Using two of the Countryside Corners dies, crop the DSP and Cajun Craze cardstock.
  • After cropping the Crushed Curry leaf pieces, adhere them together using multipurpose liquid glue. I wanted a bit of height without trying to get dimensionals on those thin pieces.
  • Run the Crushed Curry pieces and the cropped Cajun Craze cardstock through your Cut & Emboss machine using one of the Basics Embossing Folders.
  • Center the Autumn DSP on the Cajun Craze mat and adhere with liquid glue.
  • Adhere the Crushed Curry pieces on the opposite diagonal corners of the Cajun Craze mat.
  • Line up the two pieces of the DSP and adhere with liquid glue.
  • Stamp the front sentiment using Early Espresso ink.
  • Crop using one of the Autumn Leaves dies.
  • Add a length of copper ribbon to the back of the sentiment panel.
  • Put dimensionals on the back of the sentiment panel and adhere to the card.
  • Stamp leaf pieces on the Very Vanilla inside using Cajun Craze ink.
  • Stamp the sentiment on the Very Vanilla using Early Espresso ink.
  • Adhere to the inside of the card using liquid glue.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

A Golden Christmas for Cardz 4 Galz #210

Welcome back to another Cardz 4 Galz bi-weekly challenge! Our host for challenge # 210, Caz, has chosen dogs or puppies for this theme. As always, I am so impressed by the wide variety of projects from the rest of the design team members. I hope you will be inspired by something you see there, and then play along with us!

My card combines retired and current products. I’ve been wanting to use this last bit of retired Christmas DSP (designer series paper), and I combined it with the Christmas Tidings embossing folder from the current mini-catalog.

Here’s my card:

This golden retriever is perfectly encircled with Christmas lights, and the strip of coordinating DSP just emphasizes the lights. I love this DSP combination!

Measurements:

  • The Cherry Cobbler base measures 8-1/2 by 5-1/2, scored at 4-1/4 inches to create a tent card.
  • After I embossed another piece of Cherry Cobbler cardstock using the Christmas Tidings embossing folder, I trimmed it to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
  • TIP: Remember to trim your embossed cardstock after you dry emboss it. If you trim it before, you will wind up with a smaller piece of cardstock than you wanted.
  • The DSP strip along the bottom measures 5-3/8 by 1-1/4 inches.
  • I used a deckled rectangle die for the focal piece of DSP. It measures 2-5/8 by 3-7/8 inches.
  • I trimmed a piece of 6 x 6 inch Cherry Cobbler DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap. The reverse side of this paper is white with Cherry Cobbler hearts, so I punched a 1 inch circle to use for the envelope seal. After I ran it through my XYRON create-a-sticker, I had my seal.
  • The white cardstock on the inside measures 5-1/4 by 4 inches.

Assembly:

  • Adhere the bottom strip of DSP using multipurpose liquid glue.
  • Next, I added dimensionals behind the golden DSP and adhered it to the card.
  • Then, I wrapped a piece of retired Cherry Cobbler and white striped ribbon around the Cherry Cobbled embossed cardstock and tied it in a square knot.
  • To accommodate the bulk of the ribbon, I did need to add dimensionals under that piece of cardstock.
  • After using my embossing buddy on a scrap of Cherry Cobbler cardstock, I stamped my sentiment from the Framed and Festive stamp set using VersaMark ink.
  • Cover the ink with white embossing powder, and heat set with your heat tool.
  • Crop the sentiment using a banner die from the Stylish Shapes die set.
  • Add a dimensional to the right side of the banner. Add liquid glue to the left side of the banner.
  • Adhere the banner to your assembled card front.
  • I had a couple of dots of stray embossing powder that I missed before using my heat tool. To cover my mistakes, I added 3 Crushed Curry resin stars from the retired Sports Fan suite.
  • The inside sentiment is stamped in Cherry Cobbler on the white cardstock and adhered with the multipurpose liquid glue.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.
