Hey Chuck Meets C4Galz #209 & AHSC #545

Welcome back to another biweekly Cardz 4 Galz challenge! Our host for #209, Johanna, chose green and cream for the theme. While I used Mossy Meadow and Very Vanilla for my green and cream, the possibilities for this challenge are endless! When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge site to see the creations from the rest of the design team. After you are inspired to play along, please be sure to add your project to our gallery.

Here’s my green and cream card:

This Hey Chuck bundle just makes me happy! I’ve been so busy making Thanksgiving cards, it was fun to go back to create a birthday card that is really appropriate for galz or guyz. I really think this guy is “Chuck”, mainly because he looks like he thinks all the other roosters in the set are just a tad off. I’ve already posted a number of Hey Chuck cards using Chuck and other roosters in this bundle. You can see three of them here, here, and here. As always, all my supplies can be found in the Stampin’ Up! annual catalog.

The layout of this card meets the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #545, so I will be uploading it to that challenge as well.

Here’s the AHSC challenge banner:

Measurements and Scraps:

Luckily, I could use a number of scraps/leftover cardstock pieces!

I’ve found that it’s easier for me to gather all my supplies first before I start measuring, trimming, stamping, coloring, cropping, and finally assembling the card. My main desk is 2 feet wide by 5 feet long. However, I wind up working in a much smaller space for some strange and (not so) unknown reason. Please tell me I am not the only one.

  • The Mossy Meadow base measures 11 by 4-1/4 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches to create a tent fold.
  • After I dry embossed a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock using one of the Basics Embossing folders, I trimmed it to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
  • The Very Vanilla cardstock for the inside measures 4 by 5-1/4 inches.
  • I trimmed a piece of 6 x 6 inch Crumb Cake DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • I punched a 1-inch circle from a piece of Mossy Meadow 6 x 6 inch DSP for the envelope seal. This needs to be run through your XYRON create-a-sticker to create the seal.
  • There’s a piece of Mossy Meadow cardstock under the grassy pieces on the front of the card. It measures 1/2 by 4-1/8 inches.
  • The only other piece of cardstock I needed was a 4-1/4 by 5-1/2 inch Crumb Cake cardstock for the circle of rays behind my scene.
  • As I said, I was able to get everything else stamped and/or cropped using leftover cardstock pieces.

Stamping & Coloring:

Coloring is completely relaxing to me, so I colored, stamped, and used blending brushes for these different elements.

  • I stamped the rooster and sentiment onto Very Vanilla cardstock using Early Espresso ink.
  • HINT: If you are not using Momento inks to stamp your outlines, but are using blends to color, you really need to let the ink dry before you start coloring or it will bleed.
  • I stamped the fence pieces onto Crumb Cake cardstock using Early Espresso ink.
  • Then, I used a blending brush and layers of Crumb Cake ink on the fence pieces so they look kind of weathered. Remember you can always add more ink as needed. However, if you start with a heavy hand while blending, you might wind up starting over.
  • HINT: After adding ink to the blending brush, tap it off on grid paper so you don’t wind up with blobs of color that you can never seem to fix.
  • Using the Rays of Light stamp set, I stamped Crumb Cake ink onto Crumb Card cardstock.
  • By this time, I could color the rooster. I used Crumb Cake and Cajun Craze blends combos for Chuck.
  • Finally, I stamped the inside sentiments and fence pieces using Early Espresso ink.

Cropping & Assembly:

  • I used the Hey Chuck die set to crop the Cajun Craze weather vane, Chuck, and the fence pieces.
  • The sentiment banner and the Rays of Light circle were cropped using the Stylish Shapes die set.
  • Then, I cropped the grassy pieces behind the fence from the Playing in the Rain die set.
  • To assemble, I used mostly multipurpose liquid glue, with the exception of dimensionals under Chuck and the front sentiment.
  • I adhered the Rays of Light circle first, then layers the strip of Mossy Meadow green cardstock and the grassy pieces on top.
  • Next, I added the fence pieces. I adhered the two outside fence pieces using liquid glue. Then, I used mini glue dots for the center fence piece.
  • After adhering the weather vane, I added the dimensional backed Chuck and sentiment.
  • This card turned out a bit bulky, so I will need to add extra postage to the envelope in order to mail it.
  • After adhering the inside panel, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

I hope I’ve inspired you to play along with our challenge.

Thanks for stopping by!

One Stencil, Sentiment, & Image Card for Two Challenges

Welcome to the bi-weekly Cardz 4 Galz challenge #208. Our host for this challenge, Dawn, chose using a stencil, image, and sentiment for the theme. I added embossing to the three parts of this challenge, as well as creating a fun fold card, thanks to the tutorial by Susan Campfield. The possibilities are endless for the way this card can be created, and you can find Susan’s video here. I followed Susan’s measurements and directions for creating this card, and also included minor changes. I didn’t want the back of the DSP to show, so I added the embossed layer of Misty Moonlight cardstock. You can find my measurements and directions below. Just don’t tell anyone that if you can score, fold, and adhere elements together, this card is relatively easy.

When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge site to see what the rest of the design team members created. There’s always loads of inspiration and we’d love to see your takes on the challenge theme. So, please be inspired, create, and upload your stencil, image, and sentiment card to the challenge gallery.

Here’s my squeeze box fun fold card:

I used the snowflake decorator mask for the stenciling, the Brightest Glow and Hope and Peace stamp sets for the sentiments, and the One Horse Open Sleigh DSP (designer series paper) for this fun fold. In addition to the Cardz 4 Galz challenge, I am going to enter this to the current Creative Creases challenge.

You can use the following measurements and directions to create your own squeeze box fun fold card! Let’s get started!

Measurements:

  • I used three pieces of Misty Moonlight cardstock. Each measures 4-1/4 by 5-1/2 inches.
  • The white cardstock for the inside measures 11 by 4-1/2 inches, scored in half at 5-1/2 inches .Score again at 2-3/4 inches from either end.
  • The DSP on the front is from the One Horse Open Sleigh DSP pack and measures 5-1/2 by 3-1/4 inches.
  • Each DSP piece for the inside folds measures 2-5/8 inches by 4-5/8 inches. I used one piece of the One Horse Open Sleigh DSP and trimmed it down to use the focal image of this piece of DSP.
  • Trim a piece of coordinating DSP to 2-1/2 by 6 inches for the envelope flap.
  • Punch a 1-inch circle of DSP for the envelope seal. Run it through the XYRON create-a-sticker to finish the seal.
  • I stamped the sentiment banner on vellum cardstock and adhered it to a scrap of white cardstock.
  • That’s it for the measurements. Next, let’s put the card together.

Stamping, Embossing, Stenciling, and Assembly:

  • After running one piece of the Misty Moonlight cardstock through your Cut & Emboss machine using the Snowflake Sky 3D embossing folder, trim it to 4-1/4 by 5-1/2 inches.
  • Adhere the piece of the DSP you cut for the front to the embossed Misty Moonlight cardstock using multipurpose liquid glue.
  • On one side of each of the remaining two pieces of Misty Moonlight DSP, use the snowflake stencil, a blending brush, and Misty Moonlight ink to create the snowflakes. I found it easier to just stencil the whole side of the cardstock even though part of it would be covered.
  • Outline the two pieces of DSP for the inside using a Misty Moonlight Stamping Write Marker.
  • Stamp your chosen sentiments on two panels of the inside “squeeze box” piece of cardstock.
  • Adhere your outlined DSP pieces to two of the “squeeze box” panels.
  • Line up the inside cardstock panels with each of the two pieces of the Misty Moonlight cardstock and adhere using multipurpose liquid glue.
  • Adhere the front panel that you created to the front of the Misty Moonlight panel using liquid glue.

Finishing Up:

  • Use your embossing buddy to clean off your piece of vellum cardstock.
  • Stamp your chosen sentiment using VersaMark ink.
  • Cover the sentiment with copper metallic embossing powder and heat set it with your heat tool.
  • Crop both the sentiment vellum panel and a scrap piece of white cardstock using the Tailor Made Tags die set.
  • HINT: I’ve found the easiest way to adhere vellum to cardstock when you can’t hide the adhesive behind other elements is to spread a layer of glue all over the cardstock. I use a make-up sponge to adhere a layer of liquid glue. Don’t skimp on the glue, but don’t overload it either.
  • Line up the vellum cardstock with the white cardstock to create your tag.
  • Thread a length of copper ribbon through the whole in the tag and tie it off. Use a glue dot on the back of the ribbon to hold it in place.
  • HINT: This ribbon is a bit stiff when taken off the roll. I used my fingers the way you’d use scissors if you were using curling ribbon. It was much easier to work with the ribbon when I’d removed the stiffness of the ribbon.
  • This card will be hand-delivered so I was able to use dimensionals under the sentiment. If your card has to be mailed, use liquid glue to adhere the sentiment to cut down on a bit of bulk.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal.

Now it’s your turn:

I really hope you watch Susan Campfield’s video or just use my measurements and directions to create your own squeeze box fun fold card. Don’t forget to upload your project to the Cardz 4 Galz and Creative Creases challenge sites.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Fern Leaves for Cardz 4 Galz # 207

Welcome to the bi-weekly Cardz 4 Galz challenge # 207. Our host for this time, Caz, chose leaves as the theme, which has a plethora of options. When you finish here, I invite you to visit the challenge site to see the projects from the rest of the design team members. We’d love to have you play along and upload your leaves project to the gallery.

Here’s my fern leaves card:

Measurements:

  • The Night of Navy card base measures 11 by 4-1/4 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches.
  • After embossing the white cardstock with the ferns 3D embossing folder, I trimmed it to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
  • Trim another piece of white cardstock to 4 by 5-1/4 inches for the inside panel.
  • The Sun Prints DSP (designer series paper) measures 4-3/4 by 3-1/2 inches.
  • Trim a coordinating piece of DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap. At the same time, punch a 1-inch circle of DSP for the envelope seal. Run the seal through your XYRON create-a-sticker.
  • I used a piece of scrap Night of Navy for the sentiment on the front.

What I Did:

  • Adhere the embossed white cardstock to the base using multipurpose liquid glue.
  • Adhere the front DSP to the embossed white cardstock with liquid glue.
  • Use your embossing buddy on the scrap piece of Night of Navy cardstock.
  • Stamp the sentiment from the Charming Sentiments stamp set using VersaMark ink.
  • Cover the ink with white embossing powder and heat set with your heat tool.
  • Crop the sentiment using the corresponding Sentiment Silhouette die.
  • Add dimensionals under the sentiment and adhere to the front of the card.
  • Randomly add three gold butterflies to the front surrounding the sentiment.
  • Using the Nature Prints stamp set, stamp the fern leaves in the bottom, right-hand corner of the white cardstock. In order to achieve the trio of leaves, stamp the first time, then pivot the stamp for the second leaf and pivot again for the third leaf. (If you are a fan of Friends, you know what made me smile about “pivot”,)
  • Adhere the white cardstock to the inside of the card.
  • I also stamped this trio on the bottom, left-hand corner on the front of the envelope.
  • With that, I’d finished this quick coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

Thank you for stopping by my blog today. Have a Peachy day!

A Little Bird for C4G #206, TSOT 620 and Double Trouble Challenge #145

Welcome to the bi-weekly Cardz 4 Galz #206 challenge. I have the honor of being the host for this edition, and I chose cute animals or insects. When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge site to see the creations from the rest of the design team members. We can’t wait for you to play along with us and post your creations to the challenge gallery!

Here’s my cute animal card:

As you know, I thoroughly enjoy playing along with Try Stampin’ – or not- on Tuesday. TSOT # 620 is also featured on the Double Trouble challenge #145 with the theme of GORP (basically combining different patterns and textures). I’ll be adding this little bird in each challenge.

Here are the challenge banners:

Measurements:

  • The Pretty Peacock base measures 11-1/2 by 4-1/4 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches to form a tent card.
  • Trim a piece of Pretty Peacock 6 x 6 inch DSP (designer series paper) to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches for the background..
  • At this time, trim a piece of the Pretty Peacock DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • The Sweet Sorbet DSP layer measures 2-1/2 by 4-1/2 inches.
  • Punch a 1-inch circle from the Sweet Sorbet DSP for the envelope seal.
  • Trim a piece of white cardstock to 2-1/8 by 3-1/2 inches for the first layer under the bird.
  • The striped Pretty Peacock DSP measures 2 by 3-1/4 inches.
  • After embossing a piece of white cardstock using the Cheery Patterns embossing folder (from the soon-to-be released holiday mini-catalog), I trimmed it to 3-2/8 by 1-7/8 inches.
  • HINT: Do your stamping before you emboss the white cardstock. Trust me.
  • I used white cardstock scraps for the bird and sentiment rectangle.

Stamping and Assembly:

  • Stamp the branch using Pebbled Path on the white cardstock piece.
  • Stamp the leaves using Pretty Peacock ink.
  • The bird’s feet and the music notes are stamped using the Momento Tuxedo Black ink.
  • After stamping the bird using Sweet Sorbet ink on a scrap of white cardstock, I punched it out with the bird builder punch. I also punched her wing from Sweet Sorbet DSP and the beak from Daffodil Delight cardstock.
  • Thankfully, the Sweet Songbirds stamp set includes a stamp for the eyes, which I stamped in Tuxedo Black. I tried, and failed, to add white gel pen ink to a tiny spot in each eye. Instead of being a cute highlight, it turned into something creepy. Therefore, I had to repeat the bird building process for another try.
  • I stamped the wood pattern stamp using Pebbled Path ink on a scrap of white cardstock.
  • After using my embossing buddy on the stamped area, I stamped the sentiment using VersaMark ink. Then add white embossing powder to the VersaMark ink and heat set.
  • I repeated the stamping process using the little bird on the inside piece of white cardstock.
  • I used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere all the layers of DSP and cardstock because the layers would be thick enough.
  • Then, I added mini-dimensionals to the back of the bird and to the bottom of the sentiment rectangle to adhere the pieces to the white embossed panel. I needed to add a couple of dots of liquid glue to the top part of the sentiment rectangle.
  • When I finished this card, I’d completed this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

A Summer Day for Cardz 4 Galz #205

Welcome to the latest Cardz 4 Galz bi-weekly challenge. Our host for #205, Caz, chose a summer day for the theme. When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge site and see the cards from the rest of the design team members. There’s plenty of inspiration in the projects created for this challenge. We all look forward to seeing your interpretation of the challenge theme in our gallery.

Let me start by saying that I live in Central Florida. I know many places have brutal weather and other issues. We have had 100+ degree temps, and with the heat index, it’s felt like more than 110 degrees. On top of that, our kiddos came back to school today and going from class to class on an open campus is not fun at all.

That being said, I created this summer card for a friend and his wife, who has been sick and in the hospital. I hope this card brings a smile and more to these two wonderful people!

Here’s my card:

Daisies and Black-eyed Susan flowers are some of my favorite flowers. Combining this DSP (designer series paper) and these cheerful daisies seemed especially appropriate for this card.

Measurements:

  • The Garden Green base measures 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
  • I used a Crushed Curry mat which measures 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
  • The DSP on the front measures 4 by 5-1/4 inches. I also trimmed a piece of DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • Next, I punched a 1-inch circle from the same DSP scraps that I used for the center of the die-cut daisies.
  • For the inside of the card, I trimmed 2 pieces of white cardstock to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches and adhered each piece to the inside of the base. There will be 11 people sending get well wishes so I needed both pieces of white cardstock.
  • I cropped the daisies layers from white cardstock using the Cheerful Daisies dies.
  • Then, I cropped the daisy centers from brights 6 x 6 inch DSP scraps. I outlined the centers using an Early Espresso Stamping Write Marker.
  • Crop just the leaves from a scrap piece of Garden Green 6 x 6 inch DSP.
  • Finally, I cropped the large sentiment banner using the Deckled Rectangle dies.

Putting the Card Together:

  • Unless otherwise noted, I used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere pieces together.
  • Since I didn’t need to stamp an inside sentiment, I adhered the 2 pieces of white cardstock to the inside of the base.
  • Adhere the daisy DSP to the Crushed Curry mat.
  • Wrap a length of Garden Green ribbon around the mat/DSP layer and tie a bow.
  • Add a glue dot under the bow to keep it in place.
  • Adhere the mat/DSP piece to the base of the card.
  • Adhere the top white cardstock layers of the daisies to the base of the daisies.
  • Adhere the centers of the daisies at this point as well.
  • Trim the Garden Green leaves so you just have those pieces and adhere to the white cardstock leaves.
  • I had the Crushed Curry circle already cropped and in my 8 x 8 page protector of Crushed Curry scraps. Adhere it to the DSP so the largest, and focal, daisy will lay on this “mat”
  • I used dimensionals under the daisies and the leaves.
  • Adhere the daisies to the DSP on the front.
  • Stamp the sentiment from the Good Feelings stamp set using Early Espresso ink.
  • Carefully add dimensionals to the base of the sentiment panel. You don’t want your dimensionals on the sentiment panel to overlap those on the daisies.
  • It’s difficult to see, but I did outline the sentiment panel using my Early Espresso marker.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

Thank you for stopping by today!

Have a Peachy day!

P is for…Peony with Cardz 4 Galz #204

Welcome to the 204th Cardz 4 Galz biweekly challenge! Our host, Pamela, chose P is for ….. as the theme. When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge site to see the creations from the rest of the design team members. There’s loads of inspiration, and we would love to see your creations in our gallery.

This past school year I had to make a number of sympathy cards, which are always so personal and difficult. After making one of them, I decided to just make one to have on hand if needed. I’ve kept this peony DSP (designer series paper) just for these cards, even though the paper retired a couple of years ago. However, the layout of the card is a basic one and this card came together quickly.

Here’s my clean and simple P is for ….. Peony card:

Making This Card:

  • The Gray Granite base measures 8-1/2 by 5-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
  • Trim the background DSP to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
  • The Petal Pink Peony DSP measures 2-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
  • I trimmed the gray peony DSP to 5 by 2-1/4 inches.
  • After using my embossing buddy I stamped the sentiment on the 2 inch square with VersaMark ink.
  • Then, I covered the sentiment with silver embossing powder and heat set it.
  • The only dimensionals I used were placed under the sentiment square.
  • After using multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the three pieces of DSP, I wrapped a piece of Petal Pink ribbon around the long side of the card and tied it in a bow.
  • After trimming a piece of DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap, I punched a 1-inch circle of coordinating DSP for the envelope seal.
  • After running the seal through my XYRON create-a-sticker, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.
