Welcome to the Make My Monday challenge # 125, which is all about using stencils. Until very recently, I didn’t even realize that I only have the hearts and stars Stampin’ Up! stencils, which retired a few years ago. The stars stencil would have been very helpful when trying to create this card for the InKing Royalty blog hop last week. Anyway, I really struggled with a stencil card and have two of the four cards I started ready to share with you today.
Make My Monday Challenge #125
Here’s my card:
This challenge requires stencils. After creating the ctd#598 card described below, I again used the negative space from the largest circle die in the Layering Circles die set. This time, I sponged the inner part of the circle using Pear Pizazz. When I started dry-fitting the cropped pieces over the sponged circle, I decided that I needed more stenciled images. Therefore, I used the negative space around the Forever Fern leave dies. So, I sponged a Pretty Peacock and Shaded Spruce leaves in three places around the circle.
While I was dry-fitting pieces, I realized the card needed ribbon. Therefore, I added the Mint Macaron ribbon around the center of the card, and all the layers went under that ribbon. I used my Xyron to get adhesive on the back of the vellum leaves cropped from the same die set. Looking back, I probably shouldn’t have done that. Looking back, I also decided that I probably should have added texture to the white cardstock. Then, I just needed to add the various layers and the sentiment.
I left the inside blank so a personalized note could be written on the inside. Finally, I added a piece of the Forever Greenery DSP to the envelope flap, which finished off this card/envelope set.
Color Throwdown challenge # 598
The colors for the Color Throwdown challenge #598 includes white, gold, pink, and aqua. I used these colors with the negative part of three sizes of circle punches.
Here’s that card:
Although I later realized I didn’t need to, I first masked off the center of the front of the card. Since I decided to add a strip of Whisper White to the middle of the card I really didn’t need to mask it off, but it helped figuring out the stenciling of the negative circle spaces.
What I Did:
After masking the center, I used the three negative circle stencils and sponges to sponge in a variety of circle sizes using Magenta Madness, Balmy Blue and the Delicata Gold ink pad. Sponging the gold required many layers of sponging just to get the circles I have on the card. Then, I stamped another circle of gold on a piece of scrap white and stamped it with the heart balloon stamp from the Special Someone stamp set.
Next, I stamped the raccoon and balloon string in Momento Tuxedo black on more scraps of white cardstock. Using the Special Day dies, I cropped the raccoon, heart balloon, and string pieces.
The next thing I did was to crop two pieces of Balmy Blue 6 x 6 DSP for the grass. The first piece is adhered directly onto the middle white section piece of cardstock. Then I adhered the raccoon to the first piece of DSP and added dimensionals to the second piece of grass. The dimensionals allowed me to pop up the second piece of grass so it appears that the raccoon is standing in the grass.
A mini-dimensional pops up the heart balloon. Next, I adhered the string to the raccoon and the balloon using liquid adhesive.
I used the Special Someone stamp set for the sentiments on the front of the card. Then, I layered the card front on the same Balmy Blue DSP, and used Magenta Madness for the bottom mat.
The Inside
The card base is white, as is the mat layer I trimmed for the inside. In order to create some border between the two layers of white, I used the Magenta Madness marker to outline the inside layer of white. I also stamped the raccoon on the inside with sentiments from the Sending You Thoughts stamp set.
After stamping the raccoon on the front bottom corner of the envelope, I adhered a piece of the Balmy Blue DSP to the flap. With that, I’d completed this card and envelope set.

I’ve been wanting to create a black, white, and yellow card for a couple of weeks. However, I’ve gotten side-tracked with other ideas and challenges and kept putting off a card with this color combo. That is, until this challenge when everything came together in my head.
Sweetest Baby
I just love this stamp set for baby cards! It’s already obvious that I love fun fold cards, so this card just seemed like the perfect combination.
Here’s my card:
I’ve used a similar fun fold before, and you can see that card here. This one is less detailed, but adorable for a baby card. I saw this card on posted on Pinterest by Courtenay Heuston.
So Saffron seemes like a pastel yellow that would work well for a baby card. The So Saffron gingham DSP pattern really works for this card. I used the (now retired) Golden Honey striped DSP for this card, but any contrasting DSP would work as well.
Wildly Happy
I could have used one of the four adorable mother/baby stamps from the set, but thought the panda pair would coordinate well with my color combination. This pair could have been colored, but I like how light the card looks without coloring. I’ve thought about coloring them, but really feel the resulting focal image would be too heavy.
The Wild About You stamp set also contains the sweet sentiment I used on the front and inside. One of my most used die sets, Stitched Rectangle dies, allowed me to crop both rectangles on the front. The stitched borders really add a finished look to the card. I couldn’t resist adding the adorable bees from Welcome Easter. The cuties also run across the bottom of the front of the coordinating envelope.
Since I used dimensionals on the panda panel, I could wrap the black ribbon around it. A cute little square knot would be perfect. However, I soon learned that the square knot wouldn’t work on the left side of the pandas. It would get in the way of using the sentiment as a way to keep the panda panel closed if I left it on the left side.
Putting It All Together
The measurements for the card bases below are in inches:
Card base – 5.5″ by 7″, scored at 4″.
Flip open panel – 6″ x 4″, scored at the 3″ mark leaving a 3″ x 4″ flip open mini card.
Margins are personal preferences based on your card layout.
If you want the mini-card to stay closed, the front sentiment does need to be either on the top or bottom left hand corner. I used dimensionals on three of the corners of the sentiment block. In order to allow the mini-card to tuck under the sentiment, make sure to leave the fourth corner free.

This week’s challenge is to create a tone on tone background. I decided I’d use my brayer and try to create an ombre background. My backordered Poppy Moments dies arrived last week and I just had to use them.
Here’s my card:
Tone on Tone Background
For the first time in a long time, I pulled out my SU! sponge brayer to create the background. While it took some time to get the ink to get the different hues, I think the results warrant the time. It might be difficult to see in the picture, but the bottom part of the card is a deeper Pool party hue than the top. I kept rolling the ink starting at the bottom and then continue rolling my way up the Whisper White cardstock. The color difference is subtle, but definitely noticeable in person.
Poppy Moments Dies
This set had been on backorder, and I’d been checking the inventory status report a few times a week while waiting for them. When I saw that they shipped, I knew I’d be using them as soon as possible! This card seemed like a great place to start creating with the dies.
I first cropped both flowers and the leaves on the top from Pool Party, and then again from vellum cardstock. The leaves on the bottom were just cropped from vellum. I’d used the color combination of Pool Party, Whisper White and Basic Black before, and thought it would be beautiful on this one as well.
First, I very carefully layered the vellum on the cardstock using the fine tip glue pen. After I placed a very fine line of glue around the outside edge of the cardstock flower, I put a thin blob of multipurpose liquid glue in the center. My plan was to hide the glue under the black cardstock layer, and it worked. I layered the two lower leaves by putting another fine line of glue under the black outlines.
Next, I had to figure out a sentiment that would fit in the lower, right hand corner. I chose the sentiment from the Peaceful Moments stamp set, and thought it fit the whole tone of the card. On top of that, it fit very nicely and tucked up under the small poppy. Popping both flowers up on dimensionals helped with the placement of the sentiment block. While I wanted the sentiment block to have some dimension, I couldn’t use dimensionals. Enter the large glue dots. They gave the block some height but not as much as the flowers.
Finishing Up
I used a cropped piece of Whisper White cardstock for the inside panel. I used the same sentiment stamp set for the inside as well. The poppies in the lower corner is actually just a part of the longer poppy field of stamp sets. Using Momento Tuxedo Black ink, I stamped half on the inside panel, and stamped another half on the front of the envelope. I used the Pool Party stamping marker to color both sets of poppies. After adding a strip of 6 x 6 Pool Party DSP to the envelope flap this set was finished.

The Make My Monday Challenge #120 theme is Spring Flowers. I’ve taken pictures of three views of my card.
Here’s my card:
Flowers Galore
The outside of my card is definitely Spring Flowers. I created the front using the Thoughtful Blooms stamp set and the small flower punch, but you could use any floral stamp set you have. The colors are Pear Pizzazz, Highland Heather, and Gorgeous Grape. I stamped the popped up flowers in Highland Heather. On top of the Highland Heather I stamped Versamark, then added clear embossing powder. Then I punched the flowers out and put a Noble Peacock Rhinestone in the centers. Dimensionals added the height I wanted. I used Gorgeous Grape to stamp the small flowers.
Next, I cropped the Pear Pizzazz sentiment square using the middle die from the Stitched Shapes die set. The Whisper White sentiment piece was cropped using the smallest square die from the same set.
I used the Varied Vases stamp set for the outside sentiment. The Special Someone stamp set provided the sentiments on the inside squares and Sending You Thoughts for the final sentiment. I did have to use the masking technique for all three sentiments on the squares.
Next, I needed to decide what to do with the other three inside squares. I chose Thoughtful Blooms branch and dots to create the flowers. Originally, I simply stamped the buds in Gorgeous Grape. Then I decided that I needed some dimension on the buds. I used Highland Heather and slightly offset the buds from the original stamping.
How to….. Create the Inside Fun Fold
I found this fun fold on Pinterest posted by Beccy of Beccy’s Place. Beccy’s original card size was 4 in x 6 in. However, I’ve done all the math, and trial and error, so I could create this card in an A2 size, 5.5 in x 4.25 in.
Originally, I had stamped the outside pattern on a piece of Whisper White for the inside. It turned out way too busy. So, I pulled out two of the Soft Sea Foam 6 x 6 DSP from the Subtles collection. I needed a piece longer than 6 inches, and used tear and tape to connect the two pieces. However, don’t take off the tape cover or you will have a serious problem. Regular tape could also be used here.
Next, I cut an inch off each end leaving a ten inch long piece of DSP with the taped connection in the middle of the DSP.
If there is a hard part in this card at all, it’s the scoring. I used my SU! paper trimmer to score this, but any scoring board would work. Score the DSP at 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 inches. Accordian fold the paper so that the 2 inch ends lay flat and the taped center line is a mountain part of the fold.
Lesson Learned from Happy Accidents
About this time, it occurred to me that I’d made a mistake with my ribbon and since I’d already adhered the front together, I couldn’t fix my problem. I should have made the ribbon long enough to go all the way around the card to tie it closed. The card will fit inside a medium SU! envelope, put it will start to open as soon as it is removed from the envelope.
My second happy accident resulted in the strip of the outside paper being adhered to the inside of the card. I’d adhered the the inside paper and left a slight Gorgeous Grape and needed to fix it somehow. Enter the paper strip, and I like the way it ties the front together with the inside.
So Much Easier Than It Looks
Please give this card a try. It truly is so much easier than it looks, especially since you don’t have to figure out where to score.

Welcome to my first post as a newbie member of the Make My Monday Design Team. I am thrilled to be joining this talented group of papercrafters!
Challenge # 119 is to create your own background. For some reason, I struggled with creating a background. However, on the positive side, I now have three cards to add to my stash.
Here’s my card:
Poppies and Balmy Blue
I started out thinking that I would use Pool Party, but quickly realized I needed a better choice. Until this card, I would’ve grabbed Seaside Spray because I love the frostiness and beachiness of that blue. However, I grabbed Balmy Blue and decided I would try that shade of blue. WOW! Whisper White, Balmy Blue and Basic Black. Fabulous color combination if I do say so myself.
Once I made my mind up to just go with it, pulling this card together happened relatively easily.
Step by Step
First, I used my embossing buddy to clean the white cardstock to prep it for embossing. Next, I stamped two poppies at a time using the Momento Tuxedo Black ink, Then, I put clear embossing powder on the two wet poppies and repeated until I had my cardstock randomly covered.
I really wanted the embossed poppies to show up nicely. I needed to use the clear powder because the black embossing powder is on backorder, . If I hold the card just so under my OttLite, the embossing does show. I just don’t think the recipient will do that, which is ok because the card is pretty as it is.
After I used my heat tool to set the embossing powder, I used the blotch stamp from the Painted Poppies cling stamp set with Balmy Blue ink. It didn’t matter if the blotches lined up perfectly, at least to me.
The Top, the Layers, and the Finishing Touches
After stamping the poppy on the sentiment circle, I had to find a sentiment that would fit in the space left on the circle. The birthday sentiment on the outside came from the Peaceful Moments cling stamp set. I used the Sending You Thoughts cling stamp set for the inside sentiment. Since I wanted the sentiment to be the focal point on the circle I decided not to color the poppy. The black dimensionals provided the height for the sentiment circle.
The layers of Balmy Blue and Basic Black behind the sentiment were cropped using the layered circles die set.
After I finished the sentiment circle, I grabbed some of the Basic Black satin ribbon and tied a square knot to the right of the sentiment.
Finally, I started putting the card pieces together. I used Balmy Blue for the base, then a bottom mat of Basic Black, followed by a layer of Balmy Blue. Then I adhered the top white cardstock to my layers to finish off the front.
The only thing left was to stamp the inside sentiment and another poppy. After I adhered the panel to the base, I adhered a piece of the Balmy Blue DSP to the envelope flap.
With that, I had finished this card set.

I was introduced to a new challenge in my upline’s upline group, and I am so happy to have found this one! One more to add to the ones with which I play along.
This card was truly an easy-peasy card. To be perfectly honest, I was not impressed with this DSP when I first daw the mini-catalog. I’ve seen cards made with this DSP, but still thought I most probably wouldn’t get it. That all changed when I got my hands on some of this in person. I’d ordered the 6 x 6 DSP sampler/mini-trimmer combination and this floral pattern was in the sampler. Simply beautiful!! Gorgeous!! The green patterned DSP is also from the Tropical Oasis DSP.
I am so happy that I chose to highlight both patterns of this DSP with Real Red as the base and the swirl backing the sentiment. To make sure that the DSP would really pop off the green DSP, I outlined it with my Real Red stamping marker. This outline really helps to separate the green edges on the floral pattern from the background. I chose to outline the green DSP with Old Olive stamping marker. Both pieces of the DSP just seem so finished with these outlines.
Once I cropped the swirl from the Painted Labels die set, I decided I needed something between the sentiment and the swirl. Therefore, I cropped out a scalloped circle from So Saffron. Then, I use the Real Red marker to outline the sentiment circle.
Finishing Up
Since this card was so easy to get planned out, the only element that required more thought than everything else combined was what ribbon to use. After playing around with some options, I decided that I wanted to keep a tropical, open feel to the card. So, I thought the best option would be to use the SAB FREE So Saffron and metallic bakers twine. This twine comes with a roll of Bermuda Bay/metallic twine and a container of Calypso Coral, Bermuda Bay, and So Saffron sequins. All FREE with a $50 purchase until the end of Sale-a-Bration! The idea for the way it’s tied is from Jackie Beers at Blue Line Stamping. Hop on over and see her beautiful creations!
Once I finished the card, I adhered a piece of the floral DSP to the envelope flap, and this coordinating set was done! Yeah!
