Dinosaurs, Halloween, and the Cardz 4 Guyz #254

Welcome to my first time posting on the Cardz 4 Guyz Challenge as a part of the design team! I’m pretty thankful and honored to be a part of this very talented design team. This biweekly’s challenge theme revolves around dinosaurs or dragons. This past week I saw a picture of my 6 month old great-nephew wearing a triceratops hooded towel set. So stinking cute!! So, I created this dinosaur card for him for Halloween.

Here’s my card:

Measurements

  • I used Rich Razzleberry for the base of the card cut to 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches to make a tent card.
  • While it looks like there’s a lot of Whisper White, I only used two pieces of 4-1/4 inches by 5-1/2 inches cardstock. I trimmed the first piece to 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches for the front mat.
  • Next, I used the second largest rectangle stitched die to crop out the center. No one will see anything underneath the Pumpkin Pie cardstock, so it will be our secret. From the cropped inside, I cut another white mat to 4 inches by 3-3/4 inches to use under the Plaid Tidings DSP. The Plaid Tidings DSP measures 3-5/8 inches by 3-7/8 inches. While I had this DSP out, I trimmed a piece of it to 2-1/2 inches by 6 inches for the envelope flap.
  • I wasn’t finished using the insides of the white cardstock. Finally, I cropped the sentiment block using the retangle stitched dies from the plaid mat.
  • The white inside piece of the card measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • These adorable dinosaurs, from the Dino Days stamp set, were stamped on scrap pieces of white cardstock and cropped using the Dino Dies. I also cropped each dinosaur from one of the adhesive sheets.
  • I used Rich Razzleberry and Pumpkin Pie for the triceratops and Momento Tuxedo Black for the pterodactyl. Then, I very, very, very carefully placed the cropped dinosaurs on the cropped adhesive pieces.

Moving On

  • Next, I turned my attention to the Pumpkin Pie pieces. The layer on the front of the card measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. I ran this layer through the Big Shot using the Subtles 3D embossing folder.
  • As before, I cropped the BOO from the center of the Pumpkin Pie piece. I also cropped the letters from the adhesive sheets. It’s kind of tricky to get the letters to line up perfectly on the cropped adhesive sheets, so take your time.
  • When I first saw the adhesive sheets, I wasn’t sure they would be cost effective. However, they are very cost effective. Here’s a photo of the piece of adhesive sheet I’ve used for this card and a previous one. I’ve cropped 44, BOO, both pieces for the triceratops, and the pterodactyl. Here’s a picture of the sheet:
I also saved the centers of the “O” letters and used them in place of dimensionals on another card. If I had thought ahead, I would have cropped one “O” from the center of the triceratops.

  • I decided that the triceratops needed some ground under his feet. Therefore, I trimmed a piece of Pumpkin Pie to 4-1/8 inches by 1/2 inch. Then I cropped the pebble die over and over along the cardstock.
  • Next, I adhered a piece of the same size black cardstock to the back of the Pumpkin Pie and adhered it onto the card.
  • I used the Halloween sentiments from Festive Corners for the inside of the card. The hanging spider looked too cute to leave out, so I stamped him starting at the dot after happy halloween.
  • The front of the envelope needed a little something as well. I decided to add the SPOOKY sentiment down the left-hand side of the envelope.
  • After trimming the DSP on the envelope flap, I’d finished this card/envelope set. I doubt very much that my great-nephew will even know he got a card. However, his three year old sister will know, and she will be getting a different card made just for her.

I’d also love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.

Masculine Birthday Card for a (New to Me) Challenge

When I went to post my card to the DT blog for Make My Monday Challenge, themed Christmas in September, I found out about a new-to-me challenge, Cardz 4 Guyz. So many times, we all struggle with masculine cards, but I think this card will make it easier since there’s so much inspiration there. The current theme for this biweekly challenge #53 is monotone, chosen by Helen.

Here’s my card:

A Monotone Feel

I thought that the Misty Midnight and Early Espresso colors would work together to create an almost monotone card. Therefore, I chose the 2020 – 2022 In Color 6 x 6 DSP and the In Good Taste DSP, both of which can be found in the annual catalog. I added a piece of the burlap jute ribbon, topped by a piece of the Misty Moonlight ribbon.

Measurements

  • I used Misty Moonlight for the base of the card and it measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/2 inches.
  • Next, I trimmed a piece of the In Good Taste DSP to 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches for the front of the card. While I had the DSP out, I also trimmed a piece to 2-1/2 inches by 6 inches for the envelope flap.
  • I chose the wood grain Misty Moonlight DSP thinking the wood grain would go well with the burlap background DSP. This piece of DSP was trimmed to 3-3/4 inches by 5-7/8 inches.
  • The inside of the card needed a piece of Whisper White cardstock trimmed to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. I haven’t added a sentiment on the inside yet. I will when I determine the recipient.
  • Next, I used the Rooted in Nature stamp set to stamp the tree in Early Espresso on scrap white cardstock. I stamped the sentiment at the same time on another scrap of white cardstock. Then, I cropped the tree using the coordinating Rooted in Nature die. I punched the sentiment using the Tailored Tag punch.
  • Since I had the Early Espresso ink out, I used the tall pine tree stamp on the front, bottom, right-hand corner of the envelope.

Assembly and Finishing Up

  • I used the multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the In Good Taste DSP to the base of the card.
  • The burlap ribbon doesn’t go all the way around the Misty Moonlight DSP because of the thickness it would add. Instead, I cut a piece of it to 4-1/4 inches to wrap it around the edges. I used glue dots to adhere the ends of the ribbon behind the DSP. In hindsight, it probably would have been better to use the tear and tape adhesive because of the thickness of the burlap.
  • I did wrap a piece of the Misty Moonlight ribbon all the way around and tied it in a square knot on the front.
  • Then, using multipurpose glue, I adhered the DSP to the front of the card.
  • I added dimensionals under the tree and the sentiment. I centered the tree over the ribbon combination. The sentiment tag didn’t quite fit under the ribbon combo. Therefore, I carefully centered the top of the punch right underneath the Misty Moonlight square knot. Then, I added a glue dot to keep the square knot in place.
  • After adhering and trimming the DSP to the envelope flap I’d completed this card/envelope coordinated set.

From the beginning, the picture I saw in my head was clean and simple. This allowed me to create a relatively easy-peasy card. The layout can be used for all kinds of occassions with all kinds of products.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d also love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.
