Welcome to InKing Royalty’s April Blog Hop! During this year’s blog hops, we are enjoying a year of celebrations. This month’s projects celebrate Springtime, so I hope you are ready for gorgeous Spring colors, flowers and butterflies – and maybe some sweet baby animals. We are excited to share our creations with you today! After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

Springtime? With This Card?

I know the theme for this month is “Springtime” and this card does really qualify. Let me explain……

This Bonanza Buddies birthday DSP is bright and sunny. The reverse side with the cones reminds me of the ice cream man, who normally starts coming around in spring.

The flowers are definitely spring. In our yard, the squirrels have started to show up looking for nuts, despite our two dogs. Those little things can run pretty fast, though, and we often hear their angry noises.

While I haven’t seen it in a while, there is a raccoon who lives in the bushes down by the lagoon between our yard and the neighbor’s yard. I know it’s there because one of the dogs will go nuts over there at night.

Please believe me, this card is basically a 3 x 3.5 inch note card and a 4.25 x 5.5 inch card.

Here are photos of my card and the largest photo is of the front when the belly band is removed:

The first photo is what it would look like right out of the envelope. Second is the inside of the notecard, and third is the inside of the card.

I learned this card fold on Saturday from Mary Deatherage with Stamps-n-Lingers and you can find that video here. Mary does say that she “shamelessly” copied it from one of her demo team-mate, Karen Ksenzakovic. Somehow, trying to explain this card in writing is much more involved than seeing it created in a video. I’d suggest watching the video so you can see for yourself how easy it is to make this very complicated looking card.

It Truly is Much Easier Than It Looks

First, let me say that the only full sheets of cardstock that I used were the Bermuda Bay and Terracotta Tile. Everything else, every bit of it, was stamped and cropped from my “scraps” page protectors for each color.

As I said in the beginning, this is basically a 3 x 3.5 inch note card attached to a fun fold card. That’s all that it is.

Here are the measurements for the bases:

Notecard: 3 inches by 7 inches, scored at 3.5

Card base: 5.5 inches by 10 inches, scored at 4.25 inches and 8.5 inches.

After that, it’s just a matter of creating the layers for this card. As many cards that I’ve seen, I know that layer measurements vary from cardmaker to cardmaker. You know what works for you, and it will also work for this card.

So, How Did I Do This Card?

I have to admit, I knew I was going to use The Special Someone photopolymer stamp set and the Special Day dies. That’s all I knew though. Therefore, I started cropping what I thought I might use for the card. I stamped the raccoons using Momento Tuxedo Black ink on Gray Granite cardstock. Crumb Cake carstock provided the base for the squirrel, stamped with Soft Suede.

Next, I worked on the flowers, stamped in Pear Pizzazz and Crush Curry. Originally, I chose Pear Pizzazz and Old Olive for the grass. Another mistake happened when I worked on the balloons. I wouldn’t have had to redo the balloons if I had decided on the Birthday Bonzana DSP before this point.

The final version has Pear Pizzazz and Pretty Peacock layered for the grass, and that’s on all the white layers as a border for the animals.

When I first put this card together, I used a length of the polka dot tulle ribbon to tie it together. However, that was a mistake. I love this tulle ribbon, and have already finished two rolls of it. Sadly, this ribbon tends to lose its shape when tied, untied, and retied. When I’d finished the card, I cut off the ribbon and made a belly band. Now, I think I will probably go back and try to attach the Gray Granite textured ribbon.

Happily, the Special Someone bundle contains everything for this card except for one thing. The sentiment on the inside of the regular card is from the Sending You Thoughts cling stamp set.

Finishing Up

In the end, I am pretty stinking pleased with this card. I do think it would be even more adorable if I had used the Birthday Bonanza bundle! However, as I have been known to do, I waited to order the bundle and then it went to unorderable. The shipment for the bundle has arrived at the Stampin’ Up! warehouse and you can get it now!

As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d love to hear what you think, and every comment is greatly appreciated!

Please stay safe, healthy, and isolated as much as possible. I miss my high school kids and the relationships we’ve formed. My heart breaks for my seniors. But, by working together and following the CDC guidelines, we can all help to flatten the curve.

Have a Peachy Day!
