Use a Stencil for Make My Monday # 171

Welcome to the Make My Monday challenge # 171.  Meg chose the theme of using a stencil for challenge #171.  I used a cloud stencil, mixed in with Easter Friends, flowers from Sweet as a Peach, and the scallop contour dies.  When you finish here, I hope you will check out the challenge site because the design team members’ cards are all fabulous!

Here’s my double easel fun fold Easter card:

After my first try at a double easel fold card, I decided I needed to find a video so I could get the measurements correct.  I found a great double easel fun fold video from Mary Deatherage at Stamps-n-Lingers.  Once I used her measurements to get the fold started, I was off and running on my own.

What I Used:

  • I used Balmy Blue for the base of the card. Since I did follow Mary’s directions, I used white cardstock for the easel part of the card.
  • I used another piece of Balmy Blue measuring 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches for the base of the cloud stencil. The cloud stencil came from the Pattern Party Decorative Masks. In order to make the whole stenciling process easier, I used removable tape to temporarily adhere the Balmy Blue cardstock to a piece of grid paper. Then, I laid the stencil over the cardstock and used washi tape to keep it in one place while stenciling.
  • I started the stenciling process using Staz-On white ink and a piece of a foam sponge. However, I wasn’t happy with the result so I grabbed my white craft ink refill and I squeezed out some ink onto my silicone mat. Using the same piece of foam sponge, I started dabbing the clouds with the craft ink. The results are a brighter white than I was getting from the Staz-On.
  • HINT: Don’t use the Staz-On ink if you don’t have Staz-On ink remover. You just have to believe me on this one.

Easter Friends

  • Next, I stamped all three Easter friends on white cardstock using Tuxedo Black ink. I used the light Smoky Slate blend to color just the already shaded areas of the stamped bunny. Then I went back in with the bullet end of a black marker to enhance the shadow lines and to outline the bunny.
  • I used the Daffodil Delight blends combo for both chicks. I wanted the beaks and feet to be a light color, so I used the dark Pale Papaya blend for those parts.
  • All three of those Easter friends had to be fussy cut, but it didn’t take long at all.

Sweet as a Peach

  • The Sweet as a Peach bundle came in very handy for the stems and flowers. I started with white cardstock and stamped Granny Apple Green for the stems. Then, I used the Daffodil Delight ink to stamp the flowers. I am a huge fan of Black-eyed Susan flowers, and wanted these flowers to have a black center. Thankfully, the Sweet as a Peach stamp set has a tiny center stamp for the flowers. Score!
  • Next, I embossed a piece of Granny Apple Green cardstock using the (now retired) Subtle embossing folder. Then, I cropped 4 sets of scallops from the cardstock.

Assembly:

I  used quite a number of dimensionals on this card.  All three Easter friends, the back layer of leaves/stems and flowers, the bottom layer of each of the scalloped “grass” pieces, and the sentiment are adhered with dimensionals.

I adhered the rest of the pieces using multipurpose liquid glue (my favorite adhesive).

For the envelope, I randomly stamped the flowers on the flap using Daffodil Delight and the black ink for the centers.

On the front of the envelope, I stamped part of the stem stamp on the lower left-hand corner of the envelope.  Finally, I stamped three Daffodil Delight flowers with the black centers.

With that, I’d finished this coordinated fun fold card and envelope.

Using Stencils for Cardz 4 Galz # 155

Welcome to the Cardz 4 Galz challenge #155. Debbie chose using stencils for this challenge.  This two week challenge starts today, September 9, 2021. I hope you will pop over to the challenge blog to see what the rest of the design team created as well. We all look forward to seeing what you create in our gallery!

Here’s my card using stencils:

Can you tell where I used the stencil? If you said the brick looking background, you are correct!

Measurements:

  • The Cajun Craze base measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
  • The Bumblebee mat measures 5-3/8 inches by 4-1/8 inches.
  • I stenciled on the white cardstock. It measures 5-1/4 inches by 4 inches. The cardstock vellum measures the same.
  • Your sentiment block will depend on the one you choose. My white sentiment panel measures 3-1/2 inches by 1-1/4 inches.
  • The Bumblebee mat measures 3-5/8 inches by 1-3/8 inches.
  • I decided to use Cajun Craze under the designer series paper (DSP) even though the color isn’t listed as a coordinating color. The mat for that measures 5-1/4 inches by 2-1/8 inches. The You’re a Peach DSP measures 5-1/8 inches by 2 inches.
  • I also trimmed a piece of white cardstock to 5-1/4 inches by 4 inches for the inside of the card.
  • In addition, I trimmed a piece of the DSP to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.

What I Did:

  • I started with the stencil on the white cardstock. Since I thought that the brick-ish pattern would go well with the DSP, I used that stencil from the Pattern Party Decorative Masks set.
  • Calypso Coral is on the list of coordinating colors for this DSP, so that’s what I used. When I finished, I thought the color was too bright for the DSP. Therefore, I grabbed a piece of vellum cardstock and trimmed it to size. I used the multipurpose liquid adhesive to adhere the vellum. to the white cardstock. Because of the sentiment and DSP blocks, I could hide almost all of the adhesive behind those blocks. I did add a very, very thin line of adhesive along the edge of the vellum to hold it down. I’ve really been looking at the card closely, and I can’t see the adhesive.
  • After creating the sentiment and DSP panels, I tied a length of the Bumblebee ribbon around the DSP panel.
  • Then, I used dimensionals to pop up the DSP panel. I also needed dimensionals on the right end of the sentiment panel. Liquid adhesive joined the left side of the sentiment panel to the DSP panel.
  • I stamped the coordinating sentiment on the white cardstock for the inside of the card and adhered it using liquid adhesive.
  • After adhering and trimming the DSP on the envelope flap, I punched a circle for the envelope seal. Every card I’ve made since COVID has a sticker seal so no saliva is used to seal the envelope shut.
  • With that, this card/coordinating envelope/envelope seal set was complete..

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this card.

Have a Peachy day!
