Welcome to the Make My Monday challenge # 171.  Meg chose the theme of using a stencil for challenge #171.  I used a cloud stencil, mixed in with Easter Friends, flowers from Sweet as a Peach, and the scallop contour dies.  When you finish here, I hope you will check out the challenge site because the design team members’ cards are all fabulous!

Here’s my double easel fun fold Easter card:

After my first try at a double easel fold card, I decided I needed to find a video so I could get the measurements correct.  I found a great double easel fun fold video from Mary Deatherage at Stamps-n-Lingers.  Once I used her measurements to get the fold started, I was off and running on my own.

What I Used:

  • I used Balmy Blue for the base of the card. Since I did follow Mary’s directions, I used white cardstock for the easel part of the card.
  • I used another piece of Balmy Blue measuring 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches for the base of the cloud stencil. The cloud stencil came from the Pattern Party Decorative Masks. In order to make the whole stenciling process easier, I used removable tape to temporarily adhere the Balmy Blue cardstock to a piece of grid paper. Then, I laid the stencil over the cardstock and used washi tape to keep it in one place while stenciling.
  • I started the stenciling process using Staz-On white ink and a piece of a foam sponge. However, I wasn’t happy with the result so I grabbed my white craft ink refill and I squeezed out some ink onto my silicone mat. Using the same piece of foam sponge, I started dabbing the clouds with the craft ink. The results are a brighter white than I was getting from the Staz-On.
  • HINT: Don’t use the Staz-On ink if you don’t have Staz-On ink remover. You just have to believe me on this one.

Easter Friends

  • Next, I stamped all three Easter friends on white cardstock using Tuxedo Black ink. I used the light Smoky Slate blend to color just the already shaded areas of the stamped bunny. Then I went back in with the bullet end of a black marker to enhance the shadow lines and to outline the bunny.
  • I used the Daffodil Delight blends combo for both chicks. I wanted the beaks and feet to be a light color, so I used the dark Pale Papaya blend for those parts.
  • All three of those Easter friends had to be fussy cut, but it didn’t take long at all.

Sweet as a Peach

  • The Sweet as a Peach bundle came in very handy for the stems and flowers. I started with white cardstock and stamped Granny Apple Green for the stems. Then, I used the Daffodil Delight ink to stamp the flowers. I am a huge fan of Black-eyed Susan flowers, and wanted these flowers to have a black center. Thankfully, the Sweet as a Peach stamp set has a tiny center stamp for the flowers. Score!
  • Next, I embossed a piece of Granny Apple Green cardstock using the (now retired) Subtle embossing folder. Then, I cropped 4 sets of scallops from the cardstock.

Assembly:

I  used quite a number of dimensionals on this card.  All three Easter friends, the back layer of leaves/stems and flowers, the bottom layer of each of the scalloped “grass” pieces, and the sentiment are adhered with dimensionals.

I adhered the rest of the pieces using multipurpose liquid glue (my favorite adhesive).

For the envelope, I randomly stamped the flowers on the flap using Daffodil Delight and the black ink for the centers.

On the front of the envelope, I stamped part of the stem stamp on the lower left-hand corner of the envelope.  Finally, I stamped three Daffodil Delight flowers with the black centers.

With that, I’d finished this coordinated fun fold card and envelope.
