InKing Royalty’s March Blog Hop

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s March Blog Hop! Today’s hop is filled to the brim with projects that celebrate Spring and Summer. With inspiration from Katrina & the Waves’ song “Walking on Sunshine,” we’ve created projects that share the joy and excitement that accompany warmer weather. Walking on Sunshine

I live in Central Florida and if there’s something we know, it’s sunshine. However, my relatives on Long Island, where I grew up, aren’t as fortunate and have been getting slammed with snow. While I am not a fan of the outrageous heat and humidity during our extended summer, I know we are lucky to not have to deal with snow, lots and lots of snow. This card comes from being thankful for the spring weather we have been having.

Without further ado, here’s my card:

I started with some of my favorite DSP from the Pick-a-Pattern DSP. What could be better for sunshine than Crushed Curry? I created my own DSP using the sunburst stamp from the Amazing You clear mount Sale-a-Bration set (free with a $50 purchase, ask me how). Each sunburst is Crushed Curry, which is stamped off once, and then lined up around the perimeter of the white cardstock. I used two other stamps in this set for the “Let’s celebrate” stamped in Basic Black. The “sunshine” was cropped from both black and Crushed Curry using the Sunshine Wishes thinlits from the annual catalog. I used the Basic Black to shadow the sunshine greeting, and as mats around the rest of the card elements.

Coloring Dimensionals

After adhering the black and Crushed Curry sunshine pieces together, I popped it up on dimensionals.. Mini-dimensionals, cut in half, and mounted on the back of the black layer. Lots of mini-dimensional halves. If I had been a thinking person, I would have used the Basic Black Stamping Write Marker to color the sides of all the dimesnionals before I placed it on the sunburst and white paper. However, I wasn’t a thinking person which means I had to very, very carefully try to color the sides without getting black marker on the white sunburst paper. Patience was required, but mission accomplished, as shown here:

Sunshine Wishes

For those of you still dealing with snow and winter, I am sorry. I need to wait patiently before I send this card up north. Hang in there, stay warm and dry.

The opening line from The Beatles’ “Birthday” song ran through our heads as we joyfully created the birthday-themed creations we share with you today. Picture Perfect for Fab Friday # 131

Third time is a charm for this blog hop. I started two other cards, but neither card was working so I have those pieces set aside for another day. After calling it quits for the second card, I then pulled out this fabulous Picture Perfect DSP and matched it with the Fab Friday # 131 sketch.

Here’s my card:

I absolutely love all of the papers in this 6 x 6 stack. Absolutely.Love. The coordinating stamp set, Picture Perfect Birthday, is pretty fabulous as well, and that’s where I got the sentiment. It felt like this card was falling into place when I realized this sentiment would work with the Everyday Label punch. This confetti paper is all about party time, and the banner is from the Picture Perfect stack as well. While I matted the banner in Basic Black, I chose to really make the sentiment pop with a mat of Bermuda Bay. A base of Berry Burst and bow in Bermuda Bay were the finishing touches. I’m getting better, sometimes, with bows so I don’t feel completely bow challenged lately. A naked envelope just didn’t seem to fit with this card, so I cropped another piece of Picture Perfect DSP for the flap.

Fab Friday # 131

This sketch is simple and clean, which works well with this DSP. I just pulled the banner to the left of center instead of the right, and I was finally able to get a birthday card finished.
