Give Thanks, Always
Stampin’ Up! hit it out of the park with this Come to Gather Suite, which includes traditional and non-traditional Thanksgiving colors. While the majority of the colors are darker and traditional, there are some lighter, more southern Thanksgiving colors. However, for this Global Design Project card, I used the darker, traditional colors., including Pretty Peacock, which I totally love in this suite.

Layers and More Layers
While the challenge sketch is clean, for some reason, I went with a collage approach for my card. In order to get all the layers and depth I wanted, I used dimensionals and mini-dimensionals. The Pretty Peacock stamped leaf on vellum cardstock, and one of the embossed maple leaves are flat on the background.
I used dimensionals under the horizontal banner and also for the sentiment banner. I adhered the two maple leaves in the front with Tombow liquid adhesive flat on the horizontal banner.
The double pumpkin cropped set are adhered flat on the sentiment banner. I popped up the larger pumpkin on dimensionalson the left and Tombow on the right.
The double bow I created using the Cajun Craze twine for this card is one of the first ones for which I’ve liked the outcome. I used glue dots to adhere it to the very bottom of the pumpkins.
After I dry-fit, then adhered all the pieces down, I decided I needed to add some bling. I didn’t want to add pearls or metallics, so I grabbed my clear Wink of Stella and colored all the fully colored Cajun Craze leaves on the DSP background.
I finished up this challenge card with the background DSP for the envelope flap. Then, on the bottom left front corner, I stamped a large pumpkin in full strength Cajun Craze, then a stamped off double pumpkin.
With that, another Thanksgiving card was complete.

Free as a Bird Bundle
This stamp set and the Stitched Nested Label Dies are gorgeous, and I’ve used it for these two challenges. I’ve also created a card with this set for another challenge, which will be posted tomorrow.
Jumping right in, let’s look at the challenge banners:

Easy Peasy Card
The Freshly Made Sketches challenges just beg to have clean and simple cards created. Sometimes I have a real problem with that, but I did not today, and the Global Design Project sweet color combination just seemed to work with FMS.
My card really follows the sketch very closely. The smaller offset circle comes from the In Color 2019 – 2021 DSP for the Rococo Rose. The larger Mint Macaron circle comes from the Subtles DSP set. Both circles have been outlined with their respective inks by lightly rolling the circles in their respective colors. I decided to use Mint Macaron for the card base, topped by a layer of Whisper White, which I ran through the Subtle 3D folder. I know I have used it a lot already, but the texture allows the whole card to have much needed white space without it being bland. After I ran the white through the Big Shot, I outlined it using the Rococo Rose ink pad. I like the way the outlining creates a clean edge without adding bulk, so I tend to do it quite frequently.
Instead of using the triple leaf punch for this card, I chose to use sprig punch. I already had a scrap piece of Mint Macaron stamped with the dots in Mint Macaron, so that’s what I used.
Easy Peasy Coloring with the Stamping Blends
I judged the size of the Stitched Nested Label Die by the height of the bird stamp. She fits perfectly right inside this while allowing room for the simple sentiment, also from Free as a Bird. I colored her using the So Saffron and Crumb Cake blends combos. She is standing on a kind of sloppy patch created by the Mint Macaron blends combo. I like the on purpose sloppiness and think a solid patch of Mint Macaron would be too much ink for this clean card.
As I tend to do, I colored in the stitches in the ditch using the Rococo Rose marker and thought I was finished. Then I realized I wanted just a hint of So Saffron outlining the label, so I gently tapped each side into the ink pad.
Time to Assemble
Assembly was easy peasy. Everything is glued down using the Tombow liquid adhesive except the label, which sits on dimensionals for depth.
I wanted to add just a little something something, and I remembered I have the In Color Faceted Dots. Three of those for across the top, and I really wanted to add something down in the right corner of the label. Thankfully, I had a Mint Macaron Faceted Dot from the Share What You Love suite.
The card was then mounted on a white card base. I wanted a sentiment on the inside, but did not want it just floating in space. Therefore, I stamped another bird in So Saffron and then stamped the sentiment in the Momento Tuxedo Black, which is what I used to stamp the bird on the front.
Finishing Touches
As always, I finished by decorating the envelope. I used a piece of the Rococo Rose DSP for the envelope flap. Then, I stamped and colored a bird on the lower, left corner of the front of the envelope. With that, I was done.

CAS(E) the Designer for Global Design Project 204
It’s kind of ironic that I chose to use the Sail Away bundle for #GDP204 since we have been waiting to find out what track Dorian is going to take. Latest tracks have it moving more westerly, but this cat 5 storm is moving slowly and so much is still uncertain. What to do while waiting? Make cards, of course. Lots of cards.

The Process
I really wanted to have some white space on the top and bottom of this card, but didn’t want just white cardstock. I decided on this Balmy Blue pinstripe DSP, and am happy with the decision. It really sets the tone for a nautical card.
The DSP mat in the middle did not require much thought at all. I like the large compass roses, but the empty space between them opens up the design.
The Balmy Blue layer was the most difficult decision to make. I tried other options, and finally decided to crop the cardstock using the Rectangle Stitched Dies, then ran it through the Subtle 3D folder.
I stamped both the sentiment and the boat in Memento Tuxedo Black, and decided not to color the boat. Again, I was looking for open space. I cropped both the sentiment and the boat using the dies from the bundle.
The finishing touches were the Navy and Crumb Cake baker’s twine, to which I attached the anchor trinket using linen thread.
I popped the Balmy Blue layer up on dimensionals to accomodate the twine, then assembled the card pieces.
Dorian
The track for Dorian is still uncertain, but it appears to be tracking a little farther west, which means we are in for at least tropical storm winds and rain, rain, and more rain.
After I clean up my desk, which I haven’t done completely since 6 cards ago, I am going to have to blog a number of cards and set them to post at intervals. Never know when, or if, we will still have power in a few days.
If you are in the path of this monster of a storm, please take all precautions and follow evacuation orders, if necessary. While there are many memes floating around the internet regarding Floridians and hurricanes, we do take it seriously. I hope you do as well, if you are going to be impacted.

Once Again, Last Minute Card for #GDP202
The Global Design Project challenge ends every Monday morning when a new challenge also posts. More times than not, I find myself working on the challenge on Sunday night. I don’t know why I always put it off until last minute, but I do.
My blog post tonight needs to be short and sweet, so I will just jump into the challenge banner:

Short and Sweet
I did draw inspiration from the challenge banner and the cards posted by the design team. Their cards included a number of different interpretations of the challenge banner. I created my own version. There are so many Sailing Away products in this card, but my favorite is the background DSP. I love the distressed Balmy Blue, the different Night of Navy stamped lighthouses, and the open feeling of the print.
In addition, I used two other Saling Away patterns from the DSP for the banner and the strip across the bottom.
The sentiment was stamped in Night of Navy on Whisper White and then cropped using the Smooth Sailing dies. I also cropped an Early Espresso label, cut it in half, and spread it apart to outline the sentiment. I really didn’t want to outline the stitches in the ditch in a dark color, so I used the Crumb Cake Stampin’ Write Marker.
The Night of Navy/Crumb Cake baker’s twine fulfilled the ribbon across the top. I punched small holes in the banner and wrapped the twine around the Night of Navy base. The anchor was stamped in Early Espresso and cropped from the die set. The small holes in the banner allowed me to slip the twine through and attach both the anchor trinket and the cropped anchor.
I used a boatload (pun intended) of dimensionals to pop up the Night of Navy base, the banner, and half of the anchor. I simply glued the other half of the anchor directly on the banner.
As always, I finished up with the envelope. I glued DSP to the envelope flap and stamped an anchor in Early Espresso on the bottom left front of the card.

With a Fast Blink, Summer is Over for Me
It seems like just a couple of weeks ago that I was finishing grading exams and entering final grades. I started preplanning on Monday, and so it all begins again. During the summer, I was in my happy place, aka Blue Room, aka craft room, every day. Blogging occurred multiple times a week. My goal for the schoolyear is to post at least 3 times a week. I am hoping (fingers crossed) that by posting my goal publicly I will keep working towards my goal.
In the meantime, I finally finished my card for the Global Design Project #201 challenge. The colors are individually gorgeous, and together they make my non-traditional Christmas colors heart sing.

Here’s the front of my card:
Short and Sweet
The Making Christmas Bright stamp set is a carryover from last year’s holiday catalog, and it is definitely a keeper.
The inside of the card was a snap; the lights on the bottom, sentiment in the middle. I used Pretty Peacock for the card base. Since I don’t have the Merry Merlot and Mossy Meadow blends, yet (!) I used the Stamping Write Markers. Wink of Stella is difficult to photograph, but after I colored the lights, I added a layer of Wink of Stella on the lights.
The front of the card required more thought. I knew I was going to use the “May Your Christmas Be” sentiment with the “merry and bright” bulbs. I also knew I would be using the string of lights on the top. Once again, I used Wink of Stella on the little bulbs. Even though I stamped the large bulbs directly on the card, I restamped them on Whisper White in Pretty Peacock. I punched out the bulbs and added a layer of Wink of Stella clear.
I stamped the tops of the bulbs in Basic Black, punched them out, then added a layer of gold Wink of Stella. Dimensionals added the pop-up dimension I needed for the center focal elements.
After I finished those parts of the card, I hit a creativity wall and left the card for the next night. That’s when I added the 6 stars; three in each of the Mossy Meadow and Merry Merlot. I thought I really needed to add a little something else, but didn’t know what to do. After using the Merry Merlot marker to outline the edges, I was still at a loss. Finally I noticed the Noble Peacock Rhinestones, and ta-da (!) I finally felt finished.
Final Touches
Every card needs a coordinating envelope, at least in my mind most of the time. I used the Pretty Peacock In-Color DSP for the envelope flap. In addition, I stamped half of a string of lights on the bottom, left front of the envelope and colored them in.
Now, my set finally felt complete.

Global Design Project # 200
This week’s challenge is a designer, Janneke De Jong, CASE challenge. In this case, CASE means “copy and selectively edit” the sketch.
Here’s the designer’s card:
My original thought was to combine two challenges, which you already know I love to do. The second challenge called for a masculine card, but I didn’t pay attention to the deadline and missed it. Surprised? I think not.
Since I already had masculine cards on my mind, I decided to use the Come Sail Away Suite. The colors, stamp and die bundle, DSP, and the Memories and More Card Park are spectacular. I highly recommend the complete Suite, item 152715, or starting with the bundle of the stamp set and dies, item 151066. Don’t forget to get the DSP, item 149481, as well. I just checked, and the inventory is low, so if you want this must-have bundle, you need to order it ASAP.
Anyway, here’s my card:
While I followed the designer’s card closely, I did edit a few things. The designer card has 3 obviously grouped items in the bottom left. I used the lighthouse, wheel trinket, and the sentiment for my three items. Instead of using an embossing folder on the background, I used very light DSP, which contrasts with the Crumb Cake cropped elements. The coordinating Night of Navy/Sahara Sand baker’s twine really completes this card, although I could have used twine for the same effect. The designer’s card has bling on the card. I didn’t think bling would be appropriate, but three Night of Navy enamel dots, from the Happiness Blooms dots, placed in a triangle are subtle additions to the card.
After I stamped the front of the envelope with the anchor, and added DSP to the envelope flap, I had finished my card for this challenge.
