Myths and Magic for Global Design Project 127

Myths and Magic

This is my second post for today, but since my fearless (upline) leader is a founding member of this challenge, I wanted to play along.

The theme this week for Global Design Project # 127 is Sale-a-Bration.  Since SAB is the same time period as the Occasions catalog, and the fact that I had all these pieces ready to go, I used the Myths and Magic DSP and coordinating stamp set.

My card isn’t crooked, but my picture taking skills are definitely crooked.  However, I am supposed to be grading reports (UGH!), I need this break to post to be short and sweet.

Fussy cutting

I fussy cut the knight and dragon from the Myths and Magic DSP.  Since they already have beautiful colors and sparkle, I didn’t have to color anything.  I used the stripes embossing folder for the card background, and a piece of the DSP for the bottom part.  This beautiful Fresh Fig and Basic Grey side has the fun clouds in Pool Party and Whisper White on the back side, which is the bottom layer of the circled sentiment.

Like I said, this has to be short and sweet.

Bird Banter for Global Design Project 126

Decisions, decisions for Petal Passion DSP.

The Petal Passion DSP, from the Occasions catalog, is so pretty in the black and white.  However, for this sheet, I started coloring the dots using the Bermuda Bay and Calypso Coral light and dark blends.  The result of my random coloring is below:

The resulting colored polka dots were exactly what I wanted, so I turned the DSP over to put Tombow on the back so I could adhere it to the Calypso Coral mat.  I know Blends bleed through, but when I found this pattern, I had to make a decision:

At this point, I hadn’t decided on a stamp set yet and  I started thinking since I hadn’t used Bird Banter in a while, the polka dot leaves would be perfect with those cute birds.

First, let me share my finished card:

The bottom mat is Bermuda Bay, the middle mat is Calypso Coral.  Since I cropped the ovals I needed from the Layering Ovals die set out of each mat, they looked pretty darn ugly before everything was put together.  Saves paper, cuts down (ever so slightly) on mailing weights, and no one knows after it’s all put together.

This is not a toucan……

My first idea was to use the “A little toucan of my appreciation” for the sentiment.  As I began to color, I realized that I’d actually stamped the white oval with the parrot sitting on the branch.  Changing the sentiment, which is cropped close and popped up with dimensionals, was an easy fix.  Just like that, I have a birthday card instead of a thank you card.

I stamped another parrot on a scrap piece of Whisper White and then fussy cut it out.  The stamped image right on the oval was because it would have been difficult to fussy cut the feet.Mini-dimensionals add the depth to the back of the parrot.  Dimensionals allowed the sentiment to sit on top of the parrot.

Global Design Project #126 Sketch

My oval is more in the middle than the sketch but the rest works.  At least I thought it did but just noticed the ribbon on the sketch.  I’m going to leave what I have because right now this card words for males or females.

Color Challenge for GDP#125, and a huge thank you!

Fab Friday # 130

Fab Friday Fab Five picks came out on Friday and I couldn’t have been more honored!  My panda birthday card was one of the Fab Fives, and I couldn’t have been more tickled!  You can see that card, and all the other entries and Fab Five picks here.  It’s the second time I’ve been a Fab Five pick, and I am very thankful for the honor.

Global Design Project #125

This week’s challenge is a color challenge using Melon Mambo, Dapper Denim, and Daffodil Delight.  I love all of these colors individually, and they really pop when put together.   This fun color combination just screamed flower to me, hence the use of the Daisy punch and stamp.

Here’s my card:

Now that I look more closely, I think the circle cropped using the Stitched Shapes circle die and the mat for the DSP are Crushed Curry.  However, since the flower is definitely Daffodil Delight, it still counts, right?  The Melon Mambo mats for the Pretty Label Punch and the card base and the ink on the sentiment take care of color # 2.  I used one of my very favorite DSP stacks for the 2016 – 2018 In Colors.  These two-sided papers are bright and cheery florals, stripes, words, and dots.  Love!

The daisy is from the Delightful Daisy stamp set and was cropped using the coordinating punch.  Such a fun combination!  I wanted to make sure it popped off the Dapper Denim DSP, so I cropped out a circle in what turns out to be Crushed Curry.

Last color was Melon Mambo as the label and sentiment colors.  The Beautiful You stamp set provided the sentiment.  I thought that it was generic enough to make this a birthday celebration card as well as a card to celebrate an accomplishment, job change, etc.
