Orange Theory for the October Pals’ Blog Hop!

Welcome to the Stampin’ Pretty Pals’ Blog Hop!

This month, the theme is Orange Theory. We hope to inspire you with our creations using the color orange today! You will find the lineup at the end of my post to help you “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

I couldn’t resist an orange and black Halloween card. My daughter’s favorite holiday is Halloween, with all others tied for second. Therefore, every year I make her more than one Halloween card, and you can see the other one I made her here.

Here’s my z-fold orange and black Halloween card:

As with all my fun folds, I am adding this card to the Creative Creases Gallery.

Measurements:

  • The Basic Black base measures 8-1/2 by 5-1/2 inches, scored at 2-1/8 and 4-1/4 inches
  • The black cardstock piece for the front flap measures 3-3/4 by 5 inches
  • I’m still finishing up the previous year’s 6 x 6 inch DSP in Pumpkin Pie, which is trimmed to 5-3/8 by 2 inches
  • I needed to trim another piece of DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap
  • Then, I punched a 1-inch circle of DSP for the envelope seal, and ran it through my XYRON create-a-sticker
  • After I ran a piece of Pumpkin Pie cardstock through my Cut & Emboss machine using the exposed brick folder, I trimmed it to 3-5/8 by 4-7/8 inches
    • HINT: Remember, if you trim the cardstock before embossing it, you will wind up with a smaller piece of cardstock than you wanted/needed
  • Finally, I trimmed a piece of white cardstock to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches for the inside of the card
  • Thankfully, the other elements on the card were cropped from scraps of white and Crumb Cake cardstock

Stamping, Coloring, Assembly:

  • Unless otherwise noted, I used multipurpose glue to adhere pieces together
  • I used Gorgeous Grape ink to stamp the front and inside sentiments.
  • Then I used the Granny Apple Green ink pad for the accent stamps on the front sentiment panel
  • After cropping the outside sentiment using a Nested Essential die, I outlined it using a Basic Black marker and added dimensionals to the back of it so they would straddle the ribbon
  • Since I wanted black and Pumpkin Pie ribbon, I needed to color the Black and Very Vanilla ribbon using the dark Pumpkin Pie blend marker
  • I adhered the ribbon using the ribbon saving technique and you can find pictures of what I did here or here
  • After adhering the ribbon to the dry-embossed Pumpkin Pie cardstock, adhere the cardstock to the black cardstock
  • I cropped two sets of the broom pieces from scraps of Crumb Cake cardstock, which I adhered together to add just a touch of height
  • I used the Crumb Cake combo blends to color the broom handle and sweeper
  • Then, I used a Crumb Cake marker to accent the sweeper lines and to add some sort of wood looking handle
  • Stamp the cat the stack of books (for the inside) using Momento Tuxedo Black ink on scrap pieces of white and crop both pieces
  • I cropped another cat from white cardstock to add just a bit of height so I could tuck the cat in behind the sentiment
  • I used Smoky Slate dark and light blends to color the cat and the dark Granny Apple Green blend for the cat’s eyes
  • Then I colored the books using the light Pumpkin Pie and dark Highland Heather blends
  • For the middle two books, I used the light and dark Crumb Cake blends and outlined them using a black marker
  • Adhere the Pumpkin Pie DSP to the front flap
  • Add liquid glue to only the left side of the black cardstock flap piece and adhere to the DSP
    • HINT: If you add liquid glue to the whole flap, the card won’t open
  • Adhere the book stack to the lower left side of the inside white cardstock so that it hides behind the Pumpkin Pie flap when the card is closed
  • Adhere the white cardstock to the inside
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set

Hurricane Milton:

Before I finish the post, I just wanted to share that I live in west Central Florida and that means today and tomorrow are going to be wild because of Milton’s very much unwanted appearance. I feel absolutely terrible for the people on the southern Gulf Coast because they are getting hit for the second time in two weeks. Helene caused a great deal of damage, but Milton is so much worse. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of them, and I very humbly ask you to keep them and all of those impacted in your thoughts.

Thank you for stopping by today!

Have a Peachy Day!

Metallic Projects for MMM #232

Welcome to the newest Make My Monday bi-weekly challenge #232. Our host for this challenge, Dawn, chose Metallic as the theme. When you finish here, please visit the challenge site to see what the rest of the very talented design team members created. Then, don’t forget to upload your creations to our gallery. We look forward to seeing your creations there!

Here’s an up-close picture of the sentiment on the front of the card:

I made this Z-fold card a more complicated card by adding the second flap. Take it from me, that additional flap is not needed. If I had to do it again, I wouldn’t include it, therefore I’m not going to include it on the measurements and directions.

Sentiments:

  • I used gold embossing powder for all the sentiments
  • Make sure you wipe your cardstock with an embossing buddy, found in the embossing additions tool kit, to remove any lint, fingertip oils, etc.
  • Then stamp your sentiments using VersaMark ink and cover each sentiment with gold embossing powder.
  • Make sure you flick the back side of the cardstock to remove excess powder
  • Heat set the powder
  • I’ve found that if I let the heat tool run for about 30 seconds before I try to heat set the powder, especially metallic powders, the process is much faster and I don’t have to worry about burning the paper or breaking the embossing

Measurements:

  • The Pebbled Path base measures 11 by 4-1/4 inches, scored at 2-3/4 and 5-1/2 inches
  • After I dry embossed another piece of Pebbled Path, I trimmed it to 3 by 4-1/2 inches
  • Trim a piece of white cardstock to 3 by 4-1/2 inches for the inside sentiment and your personal note
  • I used the Lovely & Sweet DSP (designer series paper) for this card
  • The front panel of DSP measures 4-1/8 by 2-5/8 inches
  • The inside panel of DSP measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches
  • Trim a coordinating piece of DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap
  • Then, punch a 1-inch circle of contrasting DSP for the envelope seal and run it through your XYRON create-a-sticker
  • I fussy cut the gold leaves on the front of the card from the Lovely & Sweet DSP
  • Thankfully, the Lovely & Sweet dies perfectly crop both the stamped images and the images on the DSP

Assembly:

  • Unless otherwise stated, I used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere pieces together
  • Adhere the trimmed DSP pieces to the front flap and inside of the card base
  • Adhere the dry-embossed Pebbled Path cardstock to the front of the card by centering it on the flap and base
  • Adhere the fussy-cut gold leaves
  • Add dimensionals to the back of the seed pod spray and adhere
  • Trim the front sentiment to your desired length and then cut chevrons in each end
  • Add dimensionals to the ends of the sentiment banner and liquid glue in the middle
  • Adhere the sentiment
  • Using the front flap as a guide, adhere the white cardstock to the inside base
  • I’ve found the easiest way to line up the front flap and the white cardstock is as follows:
    • Add adhesive to the BACK of the white cardstock
    • Lay the white cardstock face down on the back of the front flap
    • Carefully fold over the back base of the card to adhere the white cardstock
    • Since you are using multipurpose liquid adhesive, you will have a few seconds of wiggle room to slightly adjust the white cardstock, if needed
  • Add a brushed brass butterfly to the front sentiment banner
  • With that, you’ve finished this coordinated Z-fold card, envelope, and envelope seal

Creative Creases Challenge:

Since this is a fun fold card, I will be uploading it to the current Creative Creases Challenge.

Shades of Blue for the Cardz 4 Galz #229

Welcome back to the bi-weekly Cardz 4 Galz challenge # 229. Our host, Johanna, picked Shades of Blue for the theme. When you finish here, please visit the challenge site to see what the rest of the very talented design team members created. Then, don’t forget to upload your creations to our gallery. We look forward to seeing your creations there!

The DSP (designer series paper) I used is retired, as is the stamp set, Kinda Eclectic. When I was sorting out my retired DSP 6 x 6 inches pieces, I found this DSP, which I loved when it came out. Happily, the Misty Moonlight and Mossy Meadow colors in the DSP are current. Also, I am trying to sell my retired products and came across this stamp set. I thought the leaves would match the DSP, so winner, winner. The sentiment on the inside is also from a retired stamp set, Good Feelings, and the set is a keeper.

Here’s my Shades of Blue z-fold card:

Z-folds make such an impact with just one more score line in the card base.

Measurements:

You’ll need the following pieces for this card:

  • 1 piece of Misty Moonlight cardstock measuring 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 2-2-1/8 and 4-1/4 inches
  • 1 piece of Misty Moonlight cardstock for the flap measuring 3-1/2 by 4-1/8 inches
  • 2 pieces of the background DSP measuring 2 by 5-3/8 inches and 4-1/4 by 5-3/8 inches
  • 2 pieces of coordinating DSP measuring 2 by 5-3/8 inches and 3-3/8 by 4 inches for the mat on the flap
  • 2 pieces of white cardstock for the sentiment panels measuring 3-7/8 by 3-1/4 inches and 3-3/8 inches by 4 inches for the inside panel
  • Since I stamped the envelope flap to match the leaves and dots on the card, I only needed to punch a 1-inch circle of DSP and run it through my XYRON create-a-sticker for the envelope seal.

Stamping:

  • I didn’t add dimensionals to anything on this card since it already has a number of layers on it. Therefore, I used multipurpose liquid glue for all the pieces.
  • Stamp the sentiments using Misty Moonlight ink on the front and inside white cardstock panels
  • Next, stamp the leaves on each piece in Mossy Meadow on both pieces as well
  • Add the dotted stamp on the bottom of each white cardstock piece using Misty Moonlight ink
  • While you have the Mossy Meadow and Misty Moonlight ink pads out, stamp one leaf cluster in the bottom corner of the front of the envelope
  • Also randomly stamp leaf clusters and the dots on the envelope flap
  • HINT: Use Post-it notes to mask off the front of the envelope so that you can stamp off the top of the flap without going onto the front of the envelope

Assembly:

  • Adhere your primary DSP to the front and inside of the card
  • Layer the second DSP pattern on the Misty Moonlight flap, then adhere the front sentiment panel
  • Adhere the second DSP pattern piece to the inside left-hand side of the card (optional but I like to do it so it finishes all parts of the card)
  • Figure out where you want your outside sentiment panel to live. Adhere liquid glue only to the part of the Misty Moonlight cardstock that will be adhered to the DSP flap
  • The absolute only “tricky” part is adhering the inside white cardstock. (I forgot to take pictures while I was making the card so I had to recreate the steps to take the following pictures.) The easiest way to do it is to open your card as shown below:
  • Add mutlipurpose liquid glue to the underside of the sentiment panel
  • The sentiment on the inside is already adhered because I forgot to take pictures. Your sentiment panel should be face down with the liquid glue on the back of said panel
  • Line up the inside sentiment panel with the back of the outside sentiment panel so that the glue is showing, as shown below:
  • Fold the back of the card over the upside down back making sure that the inside panel stays in place
  • If you used multipurpose liquid glue, you have a bit of time to adjust the inside panel if needed
  • When I finished, I thought the front needed a little something, so I added 3 bronze butterflies, which are current
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal.

Bash My Stash with Reindeer for the December Sparkles Christmas Challenge # 155

Welcome back to the Sparkles monthly Christmas Challenge # 155. Our host for December, Helen, chose holiday animals for the theme. When you are finished here, I hope you will visit the challenge site to see the fabulous projects from the rest of the design team members. We’d love to see your creations in our gallery, so please play along.

I’ve been posting so many polar bears lately, and you can see my most recent polar bear card here, which is a twist and pop polar bear, here. I didn’t want to post another polar bear, so I went through my stash of Christmas DSP (designer series paper) and created a set of four Christmas cards using the Peaceful Prints DSP.

Here are my reindeer and other Bash My Stash cards:

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved the red, black, and white color combination. All four cards use the Real Red, Basic Black, and Basic White colors.

Yesterday, I posted a z-fold card with measurements for the same pieces I used for the z-fold card today. You can see that post here.

You might be asking yourself where I got the black and red gingham ribbon because you somehow missed it in the catalogs. It’s actually the black and white gingham, and I used the dark Real Red blends combo to color it. Pretty nifty, isn’t it? You can use blends to color your bakers’ twine as well. HINT: Make sure you let the ribbon or twine completely dry before you try to use it on your card. Trust me on this one.

Hopefully, I have inspired you to Bash Your Own Stash. I can’t wait for this weekend so I can continue bashing mine!

Thank you for stopping by today!

Have a Peachy Day!

A Numbered Birthday for C4G #319

Welcome to the latest Cards 4 Guyz two-week card challenge.  The host for # 319, Caz, chose numbered birthdays as the theme, and the timing for this really worked out perfectly for me!  When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge website to see the creations from the rest of the design team.  Once you are inspired, please remember to upload your creation to our gallery.

My great-nephew had his third birthday party this weekend and the theme was Jurassic Park.  I combined the theme for the party and the theme for the C4G challenge, and came up with one z-fold card.

Here’s my card:

Even though I used mostly retired products for this card, hopefully there’s something here that will inspire you.

Measurements:

This is a typical z-fold card.

  • The Evening Evergreen base measures 4-1/4 by 11 inches, scored at 2-3/4 and 5-1/2 inches.
  • The DSP (designer series paper) for the inside measures 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
  • I needed two DSP panels measuring 4-1/8 by 2-5/8 inches for the folded part of the card.
  • It’s not necessary to put DSP on the inside fold, but I like to do that.
  • The Old Olive panel on the front measures 4-5/8 by 3-1/2 inches.
  • Both the Old Olive DSP on the front and the white cardstock panel on the inside measure 3-1/4 by 4-1/2 inches.
  • The square on the front was cropped using a square die from the Stylish Shapes die set.
  • As always, I trimmed a coordinating piece of DSP to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope seal. I also punched a 1-inch circle of DSP for the envelope seal.

What I Did:

  • Wrap linen thread around the front panel DSP as desired. Do this before you adhere the DSP to the cardstock so the thread doesn’t show on the back.
  • I adhered all the panel pieces to cardstock using multipurpose liquid glue.
  • I trimmed a piece of an adhesive sheet down to just bigger than the 3 from the Alphabet A La Mode die set, found in the current mini-catalog.. Trim a piece of Evening Evergreen to the same size as the adhesive sheet and attach.
  • Crop the 3 from the adhesive sheet/cardstock sandwich (for the lack of a better term).
  • Make sure you run it back and forth in your cut and emboss machine at least 2 or 3 times.
  • HINT: Trust me, it’s not worth the trouble to crop the cardstock and adhesive sheet separately and then try to match them up. It is not worth the little bit of adhesive sheet you could save. Just trust me on this.
  • After I adhered the 3 to the cardstock panel, I decided I needed to add a layer of Wink of Stella to it so it really stands out.
  • Adhere the front DSP/cardstock/embellishment panel so it sits in the middle of the front of the card.
  • HINT: The easiest way I have found to adhere the inside panel so it doesn’t show when the card is closed is to work from the back.
    • Open the card so the front panel is showing.
    • Lay the stamped white cardstock panel FACE DOWN on the back of the front panel.
    • Apply liquid glue to the back side of the white cardstock.
    • Very carefully, fold the back of the card on top of the white cardstock and adhere the pieces together.
  • I added dimensionals to the dinosaur and birthday block to the front of the card.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card/envelope/envelope seal set.

Thank you for stopping by today.

Have a Peachy day!

Sue
