Celebrating the New Year for the December InKing Royalty Blog Hop

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s December Blog Hop! During this year’s blog hops, we are enjoying a year of celebrations. This month’s projects celebrate New Year’s Day, a special day to start anew and prepare for the coming year. We are excited to share our creations with you today! After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

First, and foremost, today is Brian King, our fearless leader’s birthday! YEAH! I’m going to start with the card I created in honor of his birthday first! It actually, kind of, sort of goes with this month’s theme if I crop the theme to happy new: it’s a birthday card and it uses two new to me stamp sets. So, it works, right?

Here’s the birthday card:

This card is truly in honor of Brian! I really had to hold myself back because I kept wanting to add MORE to it. However, Brian’s style is clean, and he has created oodles and oodles of clean cards.

I used Mossy Meadow for the base and the panel in the center. All three DSP patterns came from the World of Good Specialty DSP. Every pattern in that DSP set is gorgeous, and the gold foil accents on the map pattern are really amazing!

Now…….. on to the hop!

InKing Royalty’s December Blog Hop!

This year, I didn’t specifically purchase a set with New Year’s cards in mind. Therefore, I really had to think outside of the box. Finally, I saw a card using the Playful Alphabet dies and TA-DA! I figured out what to do.

Here’s the blog hop card:

It’s been a while since I’ve created an eclipse card. This one was easier than in the past because of the adhesive sheets. Using them meant I did not have to try to line up mini-dimensionals, so that’s a good thing. It was also a bit more difficult because I only had one piece of this pattern Frost DSP left so it was either sink or swim. I think I might have floated, though.

I used Purple Posy for the base of the card. Since I didn’t want the DSP to just melt into the light purple color, I chose Basic Black for the underlying mat. This allowed the DSP to really pop off the Purple Posy cardstock.

Once I got the letters and numbers attached back onto the card, I decided that they needed something else to make them really stand out. I used my clear Wink of Stella pen and brushed two layers of the shiny stuff onto each letter. It’s really hard to see, so here’s a close-up.

The sparkles on the letters and the numbers are from the Wink of Stella.

From the beginning, I planned to use the retiring black ribbon for this card because it would mimic the dots in the DSP. However, when I realized I had too much space between the happy and the 2021, I needed to add something to take up some of the dead space. I grabbed one of my favorite ribbons, the white polka dot tulle, and layered the ribbon and tied them in a square knot. The knot is purposely off-center to balance the numbers on the right side.
