Baby Cards are Cute Just By Nature!
The new Wildly Happy cling stamp set in the annual catalog is so versatile! Can’t you just see these two rabbits on an Easter card?
I used the retired Twinkle, Twinkle DSP, but any baby DSP would work. Once I had the top and bottom DSP pieces cut, I thought the rest could just fall in place. In all honesty, though, I kept hearing Bob Ross saying that we don’t make mistakes, just happy accidents.
Because of the DSP colors, I knew I needed to use either the mother/baby rabbits or the mother/baby elephants. I wisely chose the rabbits and stamped then colored them in using the light and dark Smokey Slate blends. Light Petal Pink provided the inner ear color for both. Right after I colored the rabbits, I stamped the sentiment. While adding the grass using the tiny grass stamp from Over the Moon was an afterthought, it turned out to be a grounding element. I simply stamped and second generation stamped over and over. I think it looks more natural than just a single, or even double, row of grass stamps.
Happy Accidents
My first happy accident occurred when I tried to crop the rabbits and the sentiment. Since I had stamped both the rabbits and sentiment on one piece 3″x4 ” of Whisper White cardstock, I couldn’t get everything cut out in one shape that would fit within the challenge. Therefore, I had to improvise, and cropped the image using the third oval from the Stitched Shapes die set. Then I started playing around with the sentiment trying to get everything to fit so it looked like I meant it all to work. I figured out that I could use the partial “SO” on the oval to my advantage and layer it over the sentiment so it looked double stamped. Once I carefully adhered the oval to the sentiment, I realized my happy accident worked, Once I trimmed a tiny bit off the left side of the oval, everything fell into place.
My second happy accident occurred when I chose and adhered the faceted dots for the bottom right corner. It turns out those little beauties are actually Mint Macaron. However, they seem to work because they appear to have a deeper grey tint than the Soft Sea Foam in the rest of the card.
Finally, I knew I needed something under the strip for the sentiment. I tried different ribbons and then finally remembered I have theDecorative Ribbon Boarder punch. Since I’d already placed dimensionals on the back of the rabbit/sentiment combination, I needed to be very carful when gluing the border into place. I really like the little shadow the raised border creates.
Finishing Details
Here’s the inside of the card:
My third happy accident occurred when I first stamped the Soft Sea Foam rabbits and sentiment directly onto the inside of the card. In order to cover my crooked sentiment, I restamped on a piece of Whisper White and cropped it using the same oval die as the front.
Thankfully, all I had left was the envelope, for which there were no happy accidents. I stamped the rabbits on the front and used a piece of the grey DSP from the bottom of the card for the flap decoration.
I’d finished the card and envelope, happy mistakes and all.
Thank you for stopping by my blog today.
Have a Peachy day!
