We’ll Walrus Be Friends

Once again, I missed a challenge deadline. I had all the pieces for this card cut or cropped and ready to go. All that was left was to color in these adorable creatures and crop the circles with the Stitched Shapes dies. Then, I missed the deadline. However, on the positive side, I now have an adorable birthday card all ready to go!

Here’s my card:

Seaside Spray and Blends

I’ve created a few cards with We’ll Walrus Be Friends using this color combination: Seaside Spray, Smoky Slate, and Whisper White. It seems this DSP gets a workout with this stamp set as well.

The challenge for which I missed the deadline was a sketch challenge. I followed it to a T and I think it’s so stinking cute!

The Smoky Slate blends combo provided all the different shades of gray that I used. Both blends provided the colors for the walruses. Smoky Slate light blend alone allowed me to color the muzzles a lighter color. In addition, I used the color lifter blend on each of their bodies to add some dimension, even just a bit of a lift.

When I finished coloring with the blends, I used the Smoky Slate marker to emphasize the lines on the walruses, adding more dimension. The black dimensionals came in handy when I popped up all the circles and the sentiments.

Getting It All Lined Up

Years ago, my then teenage daughter got me a craft kit which included a magnetic 6×8 self-healing cutting mat and a magnetic ruler. I’m always thankful for this gift and use it often.

I lined up the bottom of the DSP with the number line so I knew my paper was straight. Then I started lining up the circles by using the magnetic ruler.

Pictures are worth a thousand words, so here’s a picture showing how easy this tool made it when lining up the circles:

I put the texture weave ribbon under the sentiment, which I popped up on black dimensionals as well.

Finishing Up

Once I got all the pieces secured, I stamped the inside of the card with a sentiment from Picture Perfect Birthday. Lately I have been using some sort of coordinating stamp with the sentiments. For this card I used the two cute as a button fish.

Finally, I just had to add DSP to the envelope flap and stamp the walrus which, in my humble opinion, is the cutest in the set. Once again, I used the blends to color. What that, this set was complete.

4:30 am on Friday

At this time, I will be meeting another chaperone and twelve high school students at the airport. We are going to D.C. and have a packed 5 days. Absolutely packed. Exhausting for all of us, stressful for the chaperones, but a wonderful experience for all.

While I have cards to post, I am not sure how much will really be able to be done.

As always,

Thank you so very much for stopping by my blog today. I appreciate your the time you take to read, and comment, on my blog.

Have a Peachy Day!

We’ll Walrus Be Friends for the Fusion Challenge

Which Stamp Set is More Adorable?

When my holiday catalog pre-order arrived yesterday, the absolutely adorable We’ll Walrus Be Friends stamp set was in the box as well.  Personally, I am not sure which set is cuter, Over the Moon or this one.  It really doesn’t matter, though, because I now have both sets.  I really wanted to start stamping as soon as I opened the box.  However, I forced myself to put most of the items away before I started.  I thought a basically monochromatic Seaside Spray card would work when playing along with this week’s Fusion challenge.

Here’s the Fusion challenge banner:

I love the simplicity of the sketch, but also love the cascading family hands.  Therefore, I decided to incorporate an additional layer in my card.

Here’s my card:

The Process

I don’t have the High Seas 3D embossing folder, yet, since it is on backorder.  However, I thought this pattern of the In Color DSP would work well.  I must say, even my husband thought it worked well for a water effect.

The walrus on ice stamp seemed to fit the panel I wanted to use, especially since I’d used the largest Stitched Nested Die Labels.  Obviously, I cut the tops off after I used the straight line of stitching.  I found out that it would be much, much easier to use the straight line of stitches by temporarily securing it to the cropped die using a Post-it note.

Even with using the largest two dies, the walrus’ ice didn’t fit on the white panel.  Therefore, I stamped on the white panel, then also stamped on the Seaside Spray panel.  Using the Stamparatus with the grid paper made the process of lining everything up so easy!

I colored the walrus with the Smoky Slate blends combo, and used with my new Seaside Spray blends combo to color the ice.  While I did stamp a complete walrus/ice on the bottom banner, I only needed to color in the ends of the ice.  At this point, I realized I forgot to order the full size dimensionals so I now have less than one sheet of them.  I used the dimensionals to pop up the white banner then glued the rest of the layers into place.

Not Quite Done

I was very happy that I had ordered the holiday Seaside Spray ribbon, and it helped hid my cropping issues at the top of the Seaside Spray banner.  Ribbon that can also add bling ~ yes, please.

I looked at what I thought I had finished for a day and finally thought I needed to add a little something.  The Stamping Blends easily color the Pearl Jewels, so I pulled out the Seaside Spray dark blend.  I  colored five of the smallest pearls and let them sit to dry.  Believe me, you need to let colored pearls dry completely, let my lesson learned help you.

As always, I decorated the envelope flap with another Seaside Spray pattern from the In Color DSP.  I finished the envelope with a quick stamp of another walrus stamp.  Now, I can say this is done.

Thank you for stopping by today to check out We’ll Walrus Be Friends for this week’s Fusion challenge.

Happy a Peachy day!
