True Gentleman for FMS339

True Gentleman

My DH was with me when I picked up my freshly spiral bound catalog, complete with plastic front and back covers.  Since I was driving, he started looking through the catalog and commented while looking for sets to create masculine cards.   He challenged me to make a completely masculine card.  The retired True Gentleman DSP fit the bill.  I love this paper!

Freshly Made Sketches 339

Sometime this past week, which was exam week and the last week of school, I vaguely remembered seeing this sketch.  However, I had to go back and find the challenge, which was the inspiration for this card.

Here’s my card:

OCD moment:  Is it just me, or does everyone have to have even numbers for the dimensions of the enlarged photo?

Here’s the challenge sketch:

What I love about the Freshly Made Sketches challenge is the clean and simple sketch posted each week.  I enjoy creating cards with lots of white space, and, once again, this challenge delivers loads of inspiration.

It’s all about the DSP and the colors!

I loved this DSP as soon as it came out in the Holiday catalog this past year.  The combination of the Tranquil Tide, Dapper Denim, Night of Navy, and Very Vanilla is classic.  For this card, I used the bold plaid print combined with the subtle stripes with accents of Very Vanilla.  The angled cuts have a thin border of Night of Navy.  The card itself is Very Vanilla, and the base is Tranquil Tide.

I used the Truly Tailored companion stamp set for the simple greeting.  Originally, this is where I stopped, took the post picture and realized the card needed a bit of something.  When I pulled out my Night of Navy enamel shapes and found I only had hearts (not for a masculine card), two stars and one circle,  Never fear, the Rule of Threes could still be implemented using the stars and circle.  After I added the enamel shapes, I squinted at my card to check for balance, and decided I was done.

True Gentleman for Paper Players #386

Paper Players # 386 sketch challenge

The True Gentleman suite is a wonderfully masculine DSP with a striking color scheme.  I needed a masculine thank you card and the Paper Players sketch was perfect for this suite.

Here’s my True Gentleman thank you card:

and here’s the PP386 sketch:

Supposed to be a two-fer

This card was supposed to be a two-fer with PP386 and the Tic-Tac-Toe challenge.  However, I missed the entry deadline for tttc.  The TTTC challenge line I chose was twine (check), embossing (check), and polka dot (check).  It may be a tad difficult to see, but I used the Woodplank embossing folder on the Wood Textures DSP.  The Night of Navy banner has Soft Suede dots on it in addition to the lighter dot pattern.  I originally just had the True Gentleman corduroy Night of Navy ribbon across the top of the banners.  After I finished the card, I decided to add the twine thread.  The banners were attached with dimensionals, which made the process of adding twine tricky.  Enter a dental floss threader for the solution and adding the twine became an easy process..

The Triple Banner Punch easily created the banners I needed for this challenge.  I cropped the Night of Navy circle and the greeting circle using the Stitched Shapes die set, which is the most used die set I own.  The sentiment is from the All Things Thanks.  When everything was said and done i decided that it needed a little something.  Enter the three Night of Navy enamel shapes all lined up in a row.  I’ve found that the easiest way for me to line up the shapes in a straight line and even spacing is to use my paper piercer tool.  I can place the clear sheet over the card and pierce right next to the shape, then add the enamel shape on top of the tiny hole.

All Things Thanks

All Things Thanks stamp set provided the sentiment I needed.  I love the fonts on this set and they are very easy to mask or color with Stamping Write markers to get just “thanks” when needed.

A Classy Kind of Guy

True Gentleman DSP

This DSP paper is gorgeous and fun!  It is perfectly masculine, has fresh designs, fabulous colors (Chocolate Chip, Crumb Cake, Crushed Curry, Night of Navy, Tranquil Tide, and Very Vanilla), and coordinates so well with the Wood Textures DSP stack in the annual catalog.  I made my DH’sdouble z-fold birthday card out of this paper and and he really liked it as well.  (See that card HERE.) Love it!

True Gentleman Designer Series Paper

Truly Tailored Clear Mount bundle

This Occasions catalog bundle is the perfect companion for the DSP paper.  This suite has a coordinating set of buttons, masculine corduroy ribbon, and a cardstock pack.  The stamps themselves are fun and great for Father’s Day, birthday, or all occasion card.

Classy Kind of Guy

Sometimes, when I see a card in my head, it just comes together in a snap.  However, I’d punched the pieces and played with them last week and couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do.  Last night I went in my Blue Room (aka craft room or my room of random stuff) not knowing what I was going to create, pulled these pieces out and it all just fell into place.

This card came together pretty easily once I figured out the layout.  I knew I wanted to include shapes punched from the Tailored Tag punch in 2 of the designs.  These two patterns are actually the front and back of one of the DSP sheets.  The Very Vanilla punched piece for the sentiment is matted with two Night of Navy punched pieces.  When I got the card all glued down I thought I might need something else and added the Linen Thread surround.  It adds some interest and dimension without overpowering the clean lines of the card.

I’d love to know what you think about this card and bundle, so please leave a comment below.

Happy birthday for my DH

I needed a special birthday card for my Dear Husband this week.   I kind of had an idea of what I wanted to do, but found exactly what I wanted with a YouTube video for a double z-fold card by Dawn’s Stamping Thoughts.  Her video was so easy to follow and I kept pausing the video so I could cut along with her measurements.  The card looks complicated, but it wasn’t at all and it was fun to create.

Here’s the card:

:

The first picture is of the closed card, second one shows the inside.  The DSP is from the True Gentleman suite, and it is fabulously masculine without smacking you over the head with it.  I used the Happy Birthday thinlit and cropped it for 3 layers.  The bottom is Night of Navy, middle is Tranquil Tide, and the top is Wood Textures DSP.  The bases are all Very Vanilla. I tend to have a difficult time with liquid adhesives with this thinlit, and I don’t trust myself to use snail adhesive with all these layers.  Enter my Xyron machine for the save. The inside sentiment is from the Picture Perfect Birthday photopolymer stamp set, another MUST HAVE suite.  I used Chocolate Chip ink for the inside sentiment.

My DH was quite impressed and initially thought it took a long time to create.   I was able to convince him it was not as complicated as it looks.  I’ll definitely do this one again!
