Global Design Project # 144
This week’s challenge is a CAS(E) the Designer challenge, which includes a variety of options for CAS(E)-ing. While I could have CASE’d the card layout, used it as inspiration, pulled from the DSP, etc. I chose to sort of follow the layout, used the same DSP stack, the SWYL stamp set, and incorporated the doile.
The Share What You Love DSP is full of fabulous colors, gorgeous paper options, and all kinds of included accessories. I’ve already used this suite for a few cards, and thoroughly enjoy cutting the DSP up. I used Tranquil Tide for the base layer, So Saffron for the middle layer, and a piece of Berry Burst embossed using the Layered Leaves TIEF..
Here’s my card:
Here’s the GDP challenge card:
My Take on the Challenge
In addition to using the SWYL DSP, I also used one of the sentiments from the Love What You Do coordinating stamp set. The scripted fonts for all of these greetings are very versatile. I put the sentiment in the same spot as the challenge card. I started with a square piece of scrap Whisper White and used the trio punch to crop the corners. Since didn’t want a plain white background, I used So Saffron and one of the SWYL flower stamps. I stamped the flowers in full strength and then again without re-inking to give the background dimension. The sentiment was then stamped in Berry Burst.
There were already so many layers on this card, I didn’t want to add yet another one under the DSP strip. Therefore, I used the Tranquil Tide Stamping Write marker to outine the border of the paper. Mary from Stamps-n-Lingers shared this trick on one of her Sunday night FB lives, and I have happily used it quite often.
I cut the doile in half before adhering it to the back of the strip of DSP, and then popped it up on mini-dimensionals. Dimensionals also provided dimension for the sentiment element.
I really struggled with the ribbon, mainly because I am bow-challenged. Retired Berry Burst ribbon provided the bottom layer, and the current Whisper White Polka Dot Tulle ribbon. Bow challenged and layered ribbon: always a fun combination. Therefore I cheated and adhered the two layers together with glue dots and placed a flat layer on the card. Amazingly, I tied a square knot and wound up with the tulled on top. In order to hide the cheat, I used a small piece of Linen Thread to cinch the base ribbon and adhered the square knot using glue dots. Happiness abounds.
Thank you for stopping by my blog today. I hope you are inspired to play along with the Global Design Project challenges, which are posted every Monday.
Have a Peachy day!

True Gentleman
My DH was with me when I picked up my freshly spiral bound catalog, complete with plastic front and back covers. Since I was driving, he started looking through the catalog and commented while looking for sets to create masculine cards. He challenged me to make a completely masculine card. The retired True Gentleman DSP fit the bill. I love this paper!
Freshly Made Sketches 339
Sometime this past week, which was exam week and the last week of school, I vaguely remembered seeing this sketch. However, I had to go back and find the challenge, which was the inspiration for this card.
Here’s my card:
OCD moment: Is it just me, or does everyone have to have even numbers for the dimensions of the enlarged photo?
Here’s the challenge sketch:
What I love about the Freshly Made Sketches challenge is the clean and simple sketch posted each week. I enjoy creating cards with lots of white space, and, once again, this challenge delivers loads of inspiration.
It’s all about the DSP and the colors!
I loved this DSP as soon as it came out in the Holiday catalog this past year. The combination of the Tranquil Tide, Dapper Denim, Night of Navy, and Very Vanilla is classic. For this card, I used the bold plaid print combined with the subtle stripes with accents of Very Vanilla. The angled cuts have a thin border of Night of Navy. The card itself is Very Vanilla, and the base is Tranquil Tide.
I used the Truly Tailored companion stamp set for the simple greeting. Originally, this is where I stopped, took the post picture and realized the card needed a bit of something. When I pulled out my Night of Navy enamel shapes and found I only had hearts (not for a masculine card), two stars and one circle, Never fear, the Rule of Threes could still be implemented using the stars and circle. After I added the enamel shapes, I squinted at my card to check for balance, and decided I was done.

InKing Royalty May Blog Hop
Welcome to InKing Royalty’s May Blog Hop! We are grinning from ear-to-ear with excitement over all the amazing, new products from Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Annual Catalog – and you’re going to love what we are sharing today. Today’s Blog Hop is filled with projects that offer sneak peeks at new products from the upcoming catalog, while also using some of the current products. What fun! After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.
There are a number of gorgeous DSP packs in the new 2018 – 2019 catalog, from which I’ve already pre-ordered a number of sets. There are still a number of DSP options as well as fabulous suites that I MUST have. My card this month is using just one of the beautiful patterns from the Tranquil Textures DSP pack. The colors are a mixture of current and new colors with Fresh Fig, Tranquil Tide, Balmy Blue, Mint Macaron, Soft Sea Foam, Whisper White, Night of Navy, and Crumb Cake. For my card, I focused on the Tranquil Tide and Fresh Fig, which I really wanted to emphasize.
Here’s my card:
Gorgeous Colors, Gorgeous DSP
Isn’t this color combination and DSP pattern fabulous? LOVE! There is a thin mat of Tranquil Tide right under the DSP, which is layered on Fresh Fig. I’d trimmed my papers incorrectly, but am pretty please with the final mat of Whisper White. I pulled the Fresh Fig for the Nature’s Twine (NEW!), and the larger Stitched Shapes circle, as well as the ink for the stamp. I think the darker cardstock colors really pull out the colors in the DSP.
Fonts and dies!
There is such a variety of fonts and stamps available in the new catalog, and this sentiment is from the new Love What You Do photopolymer stamp set. I can’t wait to place another order (pre-order??) to get more of these new fonts!
I did use the Stitched Shapes circle dies. I used the Tranquil Tide Stamping Write marker to outline the “stitch” marks in the ditch. I’ve been doing that quite frequently, mainly because I like the accented stitches.
Thank you for stopping by today. I hope you’ll hop along to the next stop on the blog hop, Jennifer Spiller on Westside Paper Creations . There’salways lots of inspiration to be found in this group and today’s hop is another example of fabulous ideas. – So, sit back, relax with your favorite beverage, and then spend some time following this hop.

Myths and Magic DSP is Magical!
I .love.this.bundle.and.DSP. I have a community service card club at the high school where I teach, and I originally bought this bundle for that club. Then I bought the DSP, and I have many a number of cards using the paper or stamp set. It’s fabulous, the bundle is from the Occassions catalog, and is only available until the end of the month. We will find out if the bundle and DSP carries over when the new catalog is released. Fingers crossed!!
I love playing along with Fab Friday
I have been fortunate and very honored to have been chosen for a Fab Five twice with this challenge. Fab Friday is a bi-weekly challenge, and they accept more than one submission, so if I change my mind, or come up with another idea, I can always submit it.
Here’s my card for FabFri133:
Here’s the Fab Friday sketch:
Isn’t the DSP fabulous? The colors, the touches of glitter, the designs, and all the characters are spectacular! Have I mentioned all the magical color combinations, which create a truly magical impression?
For this card, I used Tranquil Tide and Pool Party to mat the DSP for the base of the card. The mat of the DSP is covered in tiny Lemon Lime Twist and Tranquil Tide scales. So cute! I love the sparkly bubbles on this paper and could kick myself for not ordering the coordinating glitter paper. All the mermaids on the paper are sparkly as well, and their scales have great definition. Like I said, I love this whole suite.
The sentiment is from the coordinating Magical Day clear-mount stamp set and is one of two versatile sentiments in the set. I stamped the sentiment in Fresh Fig to match the focal mermaid on a Whisper White banner. Instead of matting the banner, I chose to use my Stamping Write Marker to lightly outline the edges of the banner. This subtle coloring gives the impression of a mat without the bulk or added layer.
The end of SAB is near!
I used a Sale-a-Bration free item for the bow because the banner needed something. It’s a shimmery Basic Grey ribbon and coordinates perfectly with this DSP. The other colors in the three ribbon set are Calypso Coral and Bermuda Bay. If you love this ribbon as much as I do, your time to order is getting shorter by the day. SAB ends on March 31.
Comments are welcomed and I love hearing from you.

Beautiful Peacock
I saw the sketch for CTS#258 this morning and decided to try out the SAB stamp set (free with a $50 purchase) Beautiful Peacock. I’ve seen some absolutely gorgeous cards on Pinterest using this set, and it was very helpful when trying to figure out how to use the set. I wound up using a mixture of full ink stamps with elements stamped off. Trust me, you want to play around with this set before you start on cardstock, and my current sheet of grid paper is a testament to playing around.
This stamp set is just gorgeous.
Color Choices
I knew I wanted something bold, and started with the DSP from Eastern Palace making Tranquil Tide and Dapper Denim the coordinating colors. Base and front of the card are Very Vanilla, which allowed the colorful peacock to shine. It’s a little difficult to tell in the picture, but there is a layer of Dapper Denim between the Very Vanilla top and Eastern Palace base. At first I was concerned these colors would be to intense. However, I’m pleased with the color choices for the body and feathers for this gorgeous bird, including the triple stamped off trailing feathers.
Extra Touches
I wound up fussy cutting the body of the bird and popped it up on mini-dimensionals for interest. The sentiment is from the Beautiful Peacock set and trimmed down to be a thin piece. When matted on Dapper Denim, then punched, the denim peeks out from the top and bottom. I didn’t want to create a dove-tailed banner for the sentiment and wound up using the Pretty Label punch. There are many videos on YouTube showing how to use punches for just the ends. Frankly, I was amazed that both ends lined up pretty much perfectly.
CAS(E) This Sketch #258 challenge
There are so many fun possibilities with this sketch. What will you do with it?
As always, I would love to hear your comments.
