It’s a Male Room for the April Stampin’ Pretty Pals’ Blog Hop & the Creative Creases Challenge #102!

Welcome to the Stampin’ Pretty Pals’ Blog Hop!

This month’s theme is “Male Room.” The Pals hope to inspire you with their masculine card ideas and paper craft creations using Stampin’ Up! products. Links to the participant’s blogs can be found at the end of each post to help you “hop” along!

My card is in honor of my father. He was an aeronautical engineer and astrophysicist. He loved the WWII planes, and always had models of them hanging in his office.

Here’s my card for my Dad’s office:

Since I found this criss-cross fun fold card by Terri Gaines with Create with Terri Gaines , I have used it often for past future challenges. You can see a couple of these cards here, here (I just realized I did the same fold for the March Pals’ Blog Hop), and here.

The Template:

I create a template for all the fun folds I love so I always have them at my fingertips. This fold is no exception.

Here’s the template:

This Adventurous Sky bundle is on the LAST CHANCE page for $53.00. The Take to the Sky 12 by 12 inch DSP (designer series paper) is not listed as last chance yet. However, since the paper has the soon-to-be-retired Boho Blue and Copper Clay 2023 – 2025 In Colors, it will probably be added soon.

I followed the template for the measurements and the Terri Gaines’ video for the adhering the pieces together. The only places where dimensionals are used is on the front focal point panel and the underside of the front panel. You will need to use multipurpose liquid glue to adhere all the other pieces so you can cut down on the bulkiness of the card.

I highly recommend this criss-cross fun fold! I actually like it more than a standard fold, partly because there’s such a small focal/front panel.

Tips & Tricks:

  • When I score the fold lines, I start on one end, then flip the base 180 degrees and score on the other end
    • I’d much rather remember just two score line measurements than 4
  • I stamped the cross-hatched stamp from the stamp set using Night of Navy ink on the two outside folds, which are visible in person
  • The outside sentiment was stamped in Night of Navy on white cardstock, then cropped using the Nested Labels die set
  • Then, I cropped a Copper Clay Nested Label, trimmed it in half horizontally and adhered it to the back of the white sentiment label using multipurpose liquid glue
  • If you’d like a larger panel on the inside, that’s totally up to you and your preferences, so have fun with it

Fun Folds = Creative Creases Challenge

Of course, since this is a fun fold, it will be posted to the gallery in the Creative Creases Challenge. If you are as much of a fan of fun folds as me, I’d encourage you to play along with this Anything Goes with a Fun Fold challenge! Fellow Pal, Debbie Mageed, coordinates and is the admin for this challenge. You can see her stunning fun folds by hopping along to her Secret Stamper website!

Favorite Things for the Pals’ July, 2024 Blog Hop!

Welcome to the Stampin’ Pretty Pals’ Blog Hop!

This month, the theme is our Favorites from the New Catalog. We hope to inspire you with our creations today! You will find the lineup at the end of my post to help you “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

I love so many products in the new catalog, and my wish list keeps growing when I see new creations posted on social media and/or blogs. However, I think one of my very favorite things is the Basic card design sketches on page 22 of the catalog.

Here’s my card:

In May, I was sick and completely lost my mojo. These sketches became my creative lifeline when I was well enough to get back into my “studio”, AKA my Blue Room. You can see some of those posts here, here, here, and here. As you can tell, some of the cards use retired products. Since they were the predetermined themes for challenges of which I am a design team member, I used what I have.

Here’s a look at the annual catalog sketches:

I used the sixth sketch from the right on the top row for this card. Have fun with the sketches, or use them as an inspirational starting point. We’ve all started cards with one idea in mind, but during the creative process it can morph into something different. Enjoy the process!

Measurements:

You will need:

  • 1 piece of Smoky Slate cardstock trimmed to 8-1/2 x 5-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches
  • 1 piece of the Take to the Sky DSP (designer series paper) trimmed to 5-3/8 by 4-1/8 inches
  • Another piece of the DSP trimmed to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • Don’t forget to punch a 1-inch circle from coordinating DSP and run it through your XYRON create-a-sticker for the envelope seal
  • 3 different pieces of Take to the Sky DSP, each trimmed to 3 inches by 2 inches for the front of the card.
  • 1 piece of white cardstock, 1 of which is trimmed to 5-1/4 by 4 inches for the inside of the card.
  • 1 piece of cardstock for stamping the plane and the sentiment

Stamping, Coloring, Adhering:

  • Unless otherwise noted, the pieces of the card were adhered using multipurpose liquid glue
  • Using Night of Navy ink, stamp the front sentiment on white cardstock and the inside sentiment on the piece of white cardstock trimmed to 5-1/4 by 4 inches
  • Using Copper Clay ink, stamp the largest plane on white cardstock. Then, stamp the medium plane on the inside panel.
  • Color the wings of the larger plane using the Smoky Slate blends combo
  • Crop the plane and sentiment using the Adventurous Sky dies
  • Adhere the 5-3/8 by 4-1/8 inch DSP to the Smoky Slate card base
  • After dry-fitting your 3 pieces of DSP, adhere to the DSP
  • Use dimensionals under the plane and sentiment and adhere on the front of the card
  • With that, you’ve finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set
