A Sympathy Card for MMM#148

Welcome back to another Make My Monday Challenge! The theme for MMM#148 is to create a sympathy card. These cards seem so difficult to do when the need arises. I almost feel like I am tempting fate when I make one in advance, but then am thankful when needed.

Here’s my card:

Black, yellow and white is such a classic color combination and I’ve always loved it. While yellow seems doesn’t seem like a traditional sympathy color, I think the intentional pops of black make this combination completely appropriate for a sympathy card.

Measurements:

  • The So Saffron base measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 to create a tent card.
  • The black mat measures 5-3/8 inches by 8-1/4 inches.
  • Since the Painted Texture #D embossing folder creates such a deep emboss that I like to trim the paper to size after embossing. This top layer measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • While I had the white paper handy, I trimmed a piece for the inside of the card to the same measurements.
  • Amazingly, I had the black flourish in the 8×8 inch page protectors I use for scraps of cardstock. I simply needed to trim it to 5-1/2 inches wide.
  • The piece of the So Saffron 6 x 6 inch DSP measures 1-1/8 x 5-1/4 inches.
  • I picked a piece of coordinating yellow butterfly DSP for the envelope flap. That piece measured 2-1/2 inches by 6 inches. I have realized I need to attach the paper for envelope flaps as soon as I trim it down so I don’t misplace the piece.

Putting It Together

  • Once I had all my pieces, putting the card together proved to be a simple process.
  • I attached the Basic Black mat and the white embossed card front using the multipurpose glue.
  • Then I adhered the So Saffron strip and the black flourish using multipurpose glue as well. This Tombow adhesive is my favorite go-to adhesive. So much so that I make sure I always have at least 15 tubes on hand. I don’t want to have any chance of running out, especially when I start creating cards en masse.
  • I cropped this beautiful butterfly from a piece of the Butterfly Bijou DSP, which has sold out. However, happiness still abounds because the Butterfly Brilliance bundle contains the coordinating stamp set and die set. Take a look at this gorgeousness:
BUTTERFLY BRILLIANCE BUNDLE
  • The stamp set is actually all one stamp, as is the coordinating die. Many demonstrators have purchases a second stamp set to cut it apart for single butterflies. I think I will have to do that as well.
  • This beautifully simple sentiment on the front comes from the Heal Your Heart Sale-a-Bration stamp set. I stamped it using the Momento Tuxedo Black ink pad, then cropped it using the stitched rectangle dies. Next, I outlined the rectangle with the black marker to add some dimension to the sentiment.
  • I popped up the sentiment and the butterfly on dimensionals.
  • Finally, I used three of the 2020 – 2022 In Color enamel dots to add something simple to the card.
  • I purposely didn’t add ribbon because I thought the flourish carried the eyes from one side of the card to the other. Adding ribbon would take away the card clean and simple design of the card.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card and envelope set.

Thank you so much for stopping by today. I hope you will visit the Make My Monday Challenge and also visit the blogs of the other design team members. I look forward to seeing your creations in our gallery!

Rooted in Nature for Color Throwdown #614

Somewhere along the line the other day I saw a color challenge on one of the many challenges I follow. ctd614 colors for this week include purple, green, and khaki.

Here’s my card:

Here’s the challenge banner:

At first, I had pastels in mind, but I couldn’t get anything to work. Then I found this already stamped and cropped Mossy Meadow tree in the Rooted in Nature stamp set case. That’s how I came up with this color combination.

What I Did

  • I used the Rooted in Nature stamp set and coordinating dies for all the stamped images on the front of the card.
  • I stamped the cross-section of the tree three times without re-inking, starting in the bottom right-hand corner. The third stamp is just barely visible to the right of the tree, but that’s what I wanted.
  • I stamped the leaf trio and sentiment in Blackberry Bliss then cropped them out. The stitched rectangle die fits the sentiment perfectly.
  • I used the triple banner punch for both banners. Since I wanted a clean as possible card, I simply used a piece of Blackberry Bliss cardstock. The Mossy Meadow DSP provided the color for the thinner banner.
  • I knew I wanted to have some sort of natural twine on the card. After trial and error, I came up with just wrapping the linen thread around the DSP banner 5 times.
  • Dimensionals provide the depth for the tree, leaf trio, and sentiment. I used the multipurpose liquid adhesive for everything else. The use of this adhesive allows for a few seconds of wiggle time to get the position just right.

The Inside

Here’s the inside of the card:

  • I’ve had to create sympathy cards for the past few months, they are the difficult to create when needed. The Here’s a Card stamp set contains a sympathy stamp which coordinates with the sentiment on the front.
  • I second-generation stamped the cross-section of the tree using Soft Suede, just as on the front. Since I had a stamped and cropped leaf trio I adhered it on top of the cross-section.
  • I stamped the inside sentiment in Blackberry Bliss.
  • After adhering a piece of Soft Suede DSP to the envelope flap, I’d finished this sympathy card/envelope set.

Thank you so much for stopping by today.

I’d love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.

Nature’s Roots for Sunday Stamps

I needed to create a sympathy card for a good friend whose father passed away suddenly a few days ago. Those cards are never easy to create, but Sunday Stamps color challenge gave me a neutral color palette and the Rooted in Nature stamp set and Nature’s Roots die set gave me the inspiration.

Here’s the challenge banner for this week’s challenge, SSC221:

Here’s my card:

SSC221 – Stay Neutral

The challenge required at least three of the neutral colors to be used. I could add in another color as long as the focal images were neutrals. I used Basic Black for the first mat and the sentiment. The background trees were stamped in Smoky Slate on Whisper White. I stamped the tree on Basic Grey using Versamark, then embossed the image with white embossing powder. The mat for the sentiment is also Basic Grey. Since I used four of the neutral colors I could add another color.

I love the In Color 2019 – 2020 of Seaside Spray. Love. It’s one of my favorite blues ever, and it pairs so well with this neutral color palette. Therefore, I used Seaside Spray for the base of the card and the sentiment layer, and the stunning ribbon from the holiday catalog. I ordered two extra rolls of it before Christmas and still have enough to use for quite a while, even though it retires at 2:00 AM ET.

I cropped both sentiment layers using one of my favorite die sets, the Rectangle Stitched framelits. The stitching gives such a finished and professional look to any paper cropped with them. They have become my go-to dies. I especially love to use them to crop out the centers of mats to save on cardstock and also lighten the card just a smidge.

As always,

Thank you so very much for stopping by my blog today. I appreciate your the time you take to read, and comment, on my blog.

Feels Like Frost for FMS 412

Feels Like Frost Sympathy Card

It’s been a rough almost 3 weeks. I’ve been sick, on my third round of antibiotics, and am very thankful for this week for Thanksgiving break.

However, the circle of life keeps moving on, and I needed to create a sympathy card for one of the administrators at school whose father recently passed away. I think these cards are the most difficult to create, especially for a male, and I don’t keep a stash of these cards on hand. It’s also important for me to create these cards when I need them, and this one is for a male and his family.

The Freshly Made Sketches 412 challenge really helped me with this particular card. The sketch allowed me to create a very clean card using some gorgeous DSP.

Here’s my card:

Here’s the challenge banner:

Clean and Simple

The FMS412 sketch inspired a clean and simple card. My list of supplies was minimal as well. In addition to the base, I used a sentiment from the retired Lasting Lily stamp set. I don’t really have many sympathy sentiments, and forget that until I need another card. Therefore, I must remember to order a current stamp set for these cards. I then cropped the sentiment using the Stitched Rectangle die set.

The DSP really does all the work for this card. When I was trying to figure out the base, I wound up choosing Highland Heather, which isn’t on the coordinating color list. Purple Posy is on the list, but I wanted something bolder for the base.

At first, I thought that I would run the base through the Big Shot using the Sublte 3D embossing folder. However, I wanted clean lines, so I decided against doing that.

Dimensionals added a pop to the sentiment. The ribbon added texture and a much needed “something” to balance the card. Feels Like Frost DSP carried the whole card. I left the inside blank because a number of us needed to sign the card.

In the Freshly Made Sketches way, I finished with clean lines. In my humble opinion, it’s a beautiful card, and the sketch easily lends itself to a multitude of options.

As always,

Thank you so very much for stopping by my blog today. I appreciate your the time you take to read, and comment, on my cards.
