P is for…Peony with Cardz 4 Galz #204

Welcome to the 204th Cardz 4 Galz biweekly challenge! Our host, Pamela, chose P is for ….. as the theme. When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge site to see the creations from the rest of the design team members. There’s loads of inspiration, and we would love to see your creations in our gallery.

This past school year I had to make a number of sympathy cards, which are always so personal and difficult. After making one of them, I decided to just make one to have on hand if needed. I’ve kept this peony DSP (designer series paper) just for these cards, even though the paper retired a couple of years ago. However, the layout of the card is a basic one and this card came together quickly.

Here’s my clean and simple P is for ….. Peony card:

Making This Card:

  • The Gray Granite base measures 8-1/2 by 5-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
  • Trim the background DSP to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
  • The Petal Pink Peony DSP measures 2-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
  • I trimmed the gray peony DSP to 5 by 2-1/4 inches.
  • After using my embossing buddy I stamped the sentiment on the 2 inch square with VersaMark ink.
  • Then, I covered the sentiment with silver embossing powder and heat set it.
  • The only dimensionals I used were placed under the sentiment square.
  • After using multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the three pieces of DSP, I wrapped a piece of Petal Pink ribbon around the long side of the card and tied it in a bow.
  • After trimming a piece of DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap, I punched a 1-inch circle of coordinating DSP for the envelope seal.
  • After running the seal through my XYRON create-a-sticker, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

Clean and Simple meets MMM #200!

Welcome to the 200th Make My Monday biweekly challenge!  Woo-HOO!  Our host, Jackie, chose Clean and Simple (base plus one layer) for the challenge theme.  When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge site to see the projects from the rest of the design team.  I always enjoy seeing how each member incorporates their own interpretation of the challenge themes.  We’d love to have you join us by posting your CAS card in our gallery.

I wound up making two cards for this challenge.  The first one is the one posted on the challenge site.  The second one does a better job of having just the base and one layer.  Both cards use Blackberry Bliss for the card base, and the retired New Horizons DSP (designer series paper).  I’m down to my last few 6×6 inch sheets, and am really trying to use it up.

Here are my cards:

Measurements:

  • Since the second card is more in line with the theme, I’ll give the information for that card.
  • The Blackberry Bliss base measures 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
  • Using the Painted Textures 3D embossing folder, emboss a piece of Blackberry Bliss cardstock. AFTER you emboss it, trim the cardstock to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches..
  • Adhere the embossed cardstock to the card base using multipurpose liquid glue.
  • Trim a piece of New Horizons DSP to 3-3/4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • Trim a coordinating piece of the DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • Punch a 1 inch circle from the DSP for the envelope seal.
  • Rub down the DSP using your embossing buddy.
  • I wanted to use Blackberry Bliss ink and clear embossing powder. Therefore, I used my discontinued Stamparatus. If you don’t already have this kind of stamping tool, I highly recommend getting one.
  • Stamp the sentiment using Blackberry Bliss ink.
  • Clean the stamp, and restamp using VersaMark.
  • Cover the sentiment with clear embossing powder and heat set the sentiment.
  • Adhere the DSP to the dry embossed cardstock using multipurpose liquid glue.
  • Trim a piece of white cardstock to 5-1/4 by 4 inches for the inside panel.
  • Stamp your sentiment using Blackberry Bliss ink.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

Thank you for stopping by today!

Have a Peachy Day!

Discover the New In Colors!

The individual color families were also refreshed.  Some of your favorites have been moved to another family, some retired, and new ones added.  Here are the new color families:

Refreshed Regals:

Refreshed Subtles:

Refreshed Brights:

Refreshed Neutrals:

While I love a color refresh, it means I have to reorganize my color families to update them.  I like to keep my stamp pads in the Stamp-n-Storage inkpad storage in color families.  Same with my markers.

HINT:  I use a stamp set container to store my markers.  It allows me to keep store them flat and I can fit one color family in each container.  I just write down a list of the colors on a piece of paper and slip it in the cover.

However, I haven’t reorganized my color families yet.  Truth be told, my room is a mess right now because I am in the middle of reorganizing.  I have so, so , so much retired product that I need to sell ASAP.

Again, thank you for stopping by today!  Enjoy!

Two Cards for Cardz 4 Guys #320 – short and sweet post

Welcome to the Cardz 4 Guyz challenge #320.  This challenge is a two-week challenge, as always.  Our host for #320, Billie A., chose wet or dry embossing for the theme.  When you are done here, I hope you will visit the challenge site to see the inspirational pieces by the rest of the design team members.

My posted challenge card is below:

I did emboss the background DSP using the retired subtle embossing folder.  That’s one of my favorite folders and I just can’t let it go yet.

However, while driving home from work today (Monday evening) I thought I’d create a quick clean and simple guyz sympathy card.  I’ve been seeing a lot of cards created using the New Horizons (retired) DSP (designer series paper) and thought I could make use of both dry and wet embossing.  This card literally took me 15 minutes to make, and that’s including hunting for a sympathy sentiment I thought would fit with this card.

Here’s my favorite, quick, clean and simple card for challenge #320:

Measurements and Assembly:

  • The Blackberry Bliss base measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
  • After I embossed a piece of white cardstock to Painted Texture 3D embossing folder, I trimmed the cardstock to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
  • HINT: Trim your cardstock after dry embossing it. If you trim it before, especially with a 3D embossing folder, you might have a problem getting the size you want.
  • The New Horizons DSP measures 4-3/4 by 2-1/2 inches.
  • I matted the DSP with a piece of Blackberry Bliss cardstock measuring 4-7/8 by 2-5/8 inches.
  • After rubbing a scrap piece of Blackberry Bliss with my embossing buddy, I stamped the sentiment, From Special Moments, using VersaMark.
  • Then, I covered it in white embossing powder and heat set the powder with my heat tool.
  • Next, I cropped the sentiment using a banner die from the Stylish Shapes die set.
  • I used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the white cardstock and the DSP panel to the card base.
  • After adding dimensionals to the back of the sentiment banner, I added it to the front of the card.
  • Since I made this card literally right before I sat down to type, I didn’t get the envelope or envelope seal done yet. But, I did get the card done in time to write this post.

Thank you for stopping by my short and sweet blog post today.

Have a Peachy Day!

Use Kraft for Cardz 4 Galz # 166

Welcome to the Cardz 4 Galz biweekly challenge # 166. For this challenge, Billie picked the theme of using Kraft color or paper. When you finish here, I hope you will hop over to the challenge page to see all the inspiration projects from the design team members.

Sadly, I needed another sympathy card so I paired Crumb Cake and Evening Evergreen cardstock with the New Horizons DSP.

Here’s my card:

This New Horizons 6 x 6 inch DSP (designer series paper) contains stunning watercolor landscapes. The DSP can be found in the current mini-catalog.

Here’s a close-up look at the papers in this pack:

Gorgeous doesn’t even begin to describe this DSP!

Measurements and Putting It Together:

  • The Crumb Cake base, which is my nod to using a Kraft color measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4.
  • The Evening Evergreen mat measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • Next, the DSP measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. I also trimmed a piece to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • The white cardstock panel on the inside measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • I really didn’t want to cover any of this gorgeous DSP, so I used my Stamparatus to stamp the sentiment on the front directly on the DSP. First, I stamped the sentiment in Evening Evergreen. Then I used my embossing buddy to clean the DSP to prep it for the embossing powder. Next, after cleaning the stamp, I stamped it twice using my VersaMark ink pad. I covered the VersaMark with clear embossing powder and heat set it with my heat tool.
  • Then, I stamped the inside sentiment, again using Evening Evergreen.
  • Finally, I punched a 1 inch circle from the DSP and ran it through the XYRON create-a-sticker.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and seal set.

Winter, Wherever You Are for MMM#166 and Paper Funday Challenge

Welcome to another Make My Monday challenge!  It’s my turn to pick the theme, and I picked Winter, Wherever You Are.  Since I live in Florida, my winters are drastically different than winters other people experience.  When you are finished here, I hope you hop over to the challenge blog to see the creations for the rest of the design team.

Here’s my card:

Paper Funday Challenge monthly blog is a new-to-me challenge. For January, the theme is Anything Goes with an Optional Twist:  Winter Landscapes

Measurements:

  • The Blackberry Bliss base measures 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches to form a tent card.
  • I used a Misty Moonlight mat for the DSP, and it measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • The DSP measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches for the outside. The strip on the inside measure 1/2 inch by 5-1/4 inches.
  • I trimmed a coordinating piece of DSP for the envelope flap to 2-1/2 inches by 6 inches.
  • Finally, the white cardstock for the inside panel measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.

A Simple, But Beautiful Card:

After picking the DSP and cardstock for this card, I struggle with figuring out what stamp set and embellishments I would use. I wanted to DSP to be the main focus of the card, so I looked through my stamps for a simple, but beautiful font and sentiment. This sentiment, from Heal Your Heart (August 2021 Sale-a-Bration) fit perfectly. Then, I decided no further embellishments were needed. I just let the DSP do all the work on this card.

  • First, I used my embossing buddy on the DSP to prepare it for the ink and clear Versamark powder. The sentiment is stamped in Misty Moonlight, then covered in clear embossing powder, which I heat set.
  • HINT: I completely forgot to do this, but when using an inkpad, it’s better to use the Stamparatus to stamp the sentiment. If I’d used the Stamparatus, I would’ve been able to restamp a second layer of ink and clear embossing powder. Once heat set, the resulting embossed sentiment would’ve been much more obvious.
  • Next, I used the brush end of a Basic Black marker to outline the edges of the DSP.
  • Then, I used multipurpose glue to adhere the DSP to the cardstock.
  • I did want some dimension for the card so I used black dimensionals to pop up the matted DSP.
  • After adhering the 1/2 inch strip of DSP to the white cardstock, I stamped the inside sentiment in Misty Moonlight.
  • Then I used multipurpose glue to adhere the cardstock to the inside of the card.
  • Next, I trimmed the DSP on the envelope flap, I punched a 1 inch circle of DSP for the envelope seal.
  • After running the punched circle through the XYRON create-a-sticker, I’d finished this coordinated card/envelope/seal set.

Close-up of the DSP pack:

This stunning New Horizons DSP pack is in the new January – June mini catalog. Here’s a close-up of the whole pack of these stunning watercolored landscapes:

NEW HORIZONS 6" X 6" (15.2 X 15.2 CM) DESIGNER SERIES PAPER

So incredibly beautiful! The pictures don’t really do it justice. It’s truly stunning!
