A Summer Day for Cardz 4 Galz #205

Welcome to the latest Cardz 4 Galz bi-weekly challenge. Our host for #205, Caz, chose a summer day for the theme. When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge site and see the cards from the rest of the design team members. There’s plenty of inspiration in the projects created for this challenge. We all look forward to seeing your interpretation of the challenge theme in our gallery.

Let me start by saying that I live in Central Florida. I know many places have brutal weather and other issues. We have had 100+ degree temps, and with the heat index, it’s felt like more than 110 degrees. On top of that, our kiddos came back to school today and going from class to class on an open campus is not fun at all.

That being said, I created this summer card for a friend and his wife, who has been sick and in the hospital. I hope this card brings a smile and more to these two wonderful people!

Here’s my card:

Daisies and Black-eyed Susan flowers are some of my favorite flowers. Combining this DSP (designer series paper) and these cheerful daisies seemed especially appropriate for this card.

Measurements:

  • The Garden Green base measures 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
  • I used a Crushed Curry mat which measures 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
  • The DSP on the front measures 4 by 5-1/4 inches. I also trimmed a piece of DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • Next, I punched a 1-inch circle from the same DSP scraps that I used for the center of the die-cut daisies.
  • For the inside of the card, I trimmed 2 pieces of white cardstock to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches and adhered each piece to the inside of the base. There will be 11 people sending get well wishes so I needed both pieces of white cardstock.
  • I cropped the daisies layers from white cardstock using the Cheerful Daisies dies.
  • Then, I cropped the daisy centers from brights 6 x 6 inch DSP scraps. I outlined the centers using an Early Espresso Stamping Write Marker.
  • Crop just the leaves from a scrap piece of Garden Green 6 x 6 inch DSP.
  • Finally, I cropped the large sentiment banner using the Deckled Rectangle dies.

Putting the Card Together:

  • Unless otherwise noted, I used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere pieces together.
  • Since I didn’t need to stamp an inside sentiment, I adhered the 2 pieces of white cardstock to the inside of the base.
  • Adhere the daisy DSP to the Crushed Curry mat.
  • Wrap a length of Garden Green ribbon around the mat/DSP layer and tie a bow.
  • Add a glue dot under the bow to keep it in place.
  • Adhere the mat/DSP piece to the base of the card.
  • Adhere the top white cardstock layers of the daisies to the base of the daisies.
  • Adhere the centers of the daisies at this point as well.
  • Trim the Garden Green leaves so you just have those pieces and adhere to the white cardstock leaves.
  • I had the Crushed Curry circle already cropped and in my 8 x 8 page protector of Crushed Curry scraps. Adhere it to the DSP so the largest, and focal, daisy will lay on this “mat”
  • I used dimensionals under the daisies and the leaves.
  • Adhere the daisies to the DSP on the front.
  • Stamp the sentiment from the Good Feelings stamp set using Early Espresso ink.
  • Carefully add dimensionals to the base of the sentiment panel. You don’t want your dimensionals on the sentiment panel to overlap those on the daisies.
  • It’s difficult to see, but I did outline the sentiment panel using my Early Espresso marker.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.
