I love the Golden Honey DSP and Honey Bee bundle so very much that I just had to get another FREE set of the DSP (with a qualifying order) from Sale-a-Bration! While I love every, single pattern of the DSP, the flower pattern is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I’ve already posted one card using this pattern and Bermuda Bay. You can see that card here. Today’s color combination is black, white, and Poppy Parade.

This DSP is Just Gorgeous!
I started out coloring these flowers with Purple Posy, but decided I wanted a bolder look. Since I’d already colored a blue shade, I went with this Poppy Parade. I really like the way the poppy color plays off the black and white background of the DSP. I didn’t even try to use my blends to color. Instead, I grabbed my Poppy Parade marker, relaxed, and got started. While I colored these flowers, I was turning card options over and over in my head. By the time I finished coloring, I had my layout picture firmly in my brain.
Covering up even a small part of the DSP didn’t seem like a good idea, but I needed a vertical banner of some sort. I grabbed a piece of Whisper White, ran it through the Subtle 3D embossing folder, trimmed down the banner and fussy cut the chevron on the bottom. Finally, I outlined it with my Basic Black Stampin’ Write marker.
Next, I needed to cut down the DSP for the top part of the card and the strips. I wanted to make sure I had a definitive border between the DSP and the Poppy Parade cardstock, so I outlined the DSP with my Basic Black marker as well.
Finishing Up the Card
I cropped the strips and the cardstock mats using the Stitched Rectangle die set. While the challenge banner called for five horizontal elements, I only used four. I knew I needed ribbon of some sort and decided to use the Basic Black baker’s twine tied in a bow at the top of the banner. Wouldn’t it be fabulous if baker’s twine came in every color? I can’t be the only one wishing for that, can I?
Next, I needed to decide how to adhere everything. I used some large glue dots to adhere the banner. The large ones enabled the banner to have just a smidge of a pop-up. I used the multipurpose adhesive for the top three strips. Dimensionals give the sentiment strip a pop-up. There are dimensionals under the cardstock and between the sentiment and the cardstock. This dimension makes the sentiment pop off the banner creating a focal point.
Finally, I stamped some flowers on the front, bottom, left corner of the envelope and added a piece of the Brights DSP to the envelope flap.
With that, another Golden Honey DSP card and coordinating envelope was complete. Contrary to the name, there’s not even a tiny bit of golden color on this card.

Paper Craft Crew challenges are always interesting and inspiring. This week’s is no different. Since I absolutely LOVE the Golden Honey DSP I just ordered my second FREE pack with a qualifying order. For this challenge, I once again turned to that happy DSP and the Honey Bee bundle.

The Short Version
I tried to follow the sketch as much as possible for this card. The placement of the gold foil honeycombs and the beehive very closely match the sketch.
The sentiment strip on the challenge contained just a strip, but I added the two bees on the end. A honeycomb and a beehive need bees, right? The DSP for the beehive is from the DSP pack. I thought it needed a little bling added, so I used my clear Wink of Stella on the white strips. While Wink of Stella doesn’t show up well in pictures, I promise it’s there. The placement of the sentiment strip was completely based on the sketch.
I pulled out some of my last remaining retired black dots and placed them around my collage. I used a very liberal amount of dimensionals when adhering everything down. In the case of the bees on the end of the sentiment strip, I actually used a double stack of mini-dimensionals.
Multiple Dry-fitting Attempts are a Good Thing
Attaching the beehive took just a bit of planning. I wanted the height of the beehive to be consistent. Therefore, I placed a number of mini-dimensionals inside the empty honeycomb cut outs. Then I carefully placed some on the top of the back of the beehive. After some dry-fitting trials, I felt pretty sure I had everything where I needed.
While I was dry-fitting, I decided that just the Whisper White cardstock needed to have some texture. I turned to my favorite embossing folder: the Subtle 3D embossing folder. I love the hints of texture this folder gives. It has gained #1 choice out of all my folders.
At that point, I thought I had finished. I set the card up for a picture, and realized I’d left a too big of gaping white space at the bottom right of the card. If I used the little bees, I’d have to put two more on the card to keep the odd number going. I finally thought that one of the big bees stamped and cropped would work, so that’s what I did. The card feels more balanced, at least to me.
With that, I was done. No coordinating envelope this time because I ran out of them yesterday. What?!? I couldn’t find a single one, and usually I have a stash on hand. So, I quickly ordered some last night, along with enough product to get the FREE Golden Honey DSP. $50 order = FREE Sale-a-Bration items.

Cuteness Overload!
When I first saw the Fab Friday color combination, I had a difficult time figuring out how to incorporate the Rococo Rose. I had my A-ha moment when I decided to combine Fab Friday with CAS(E) This Sketch! The In Color DSP for the 2019 – 2021 colors would give me the perfect strip of Rococo Rose, satisfying both challenges.
Since I knew from the start that I wanted to use the Little Ladybug cling stamp set, which is the host set Sale-a-Bration! Adorable! The large flower fit the focal panel perfectly. I just felt the need to add a ladybug tucked under the sentiment. All three stamps came from the one stamp set. So stinking cute!
I used Stamping Blends combos to do all the coloring. The stem and leaves are in Granny Apple Green, which I know is not in the color challenge. However, I couldn’t figure out how to use the three given colors in the leaves. I thought Granny Apple Green would be light and bright enough for my planned card.
Both the flower petals and the ladybug were colored with the Poppy Parade Stamping Blends. I used the Petal Pink Blends combination for the center of the flower and the face and arm, and leg on the ladybug. This bright red really pops off the Whisper White. Highland Heather provides a colorful backdrop. Doesn’t this color combination remind you of Valentine’s Day conversation hearts?
I stamped the sentiment in VersaMark on Poppy Parade cardstock, then used white embossing powder. The embossed sentiment exceded my expectations!
Adding a Bit of Texture
The Whisper White panels for the stamped images needed to have just a bit of texture. Therefore, I cropped the large white panel and the sentiment strip using the Stitched Rectangle dies. I cropped the cute as a bug ladybug using the Stitched Shapes die set. My next usual step is to use Stamping Markers to outline the stitches in the ditch, but I wanted to keep this card clean.
Finally, I ran the the background white panel through my Big Shot using the Subtle 3D embossing folder.
Putting It Together
Since I had the CTS sketch to guide me, I just lined up all my pieces in the appropriate places. I did a dry-fit for the sentiment and the ladybug, and thought I needed to find some way to ground and connect the flower, ladybug, and sentiment. Ribbon seemed to be the easiest way to pull everything together. I used the Poppy Parade textured weave ribbon tied in a simple square knot.
The sentiment and ladybug are popped up on dimensionals. I used glue dots under the knot of the ribbon, and as an anchor on the back of the base. I adhered all the other elements using the TomBow liquid adhesive.
To finish off the envelope, I put a piece of the In Color DSP on the envelope flap. I couldn’t resist using the line-up of little ladybugs on the bottom of the front of the card. Do you notice anything different about this line of ladybugs? Don’t tell anyone, but I stamped the first four ladybugs upside down. In order to make that feel purposely done, I stamped the middle set right side up, and the last set upside down.

Sale-a-Brate with Golden Honey DSP
If you haven’t seen the Sale-a-Bration catalog, especially the Golden Honey DSP, which coordinates with the Honey Bee Bundle in the January to June mini-catalog. Take a look at this gorgeous paper:
All the gold paper and accents are gorgeous! What’s even better is that the dies from the bundle cut out bees from the gold and Whisper White DSP! Winner, winner!
I created two cards for this blog hop. The first is for a beginning stamper and the second is for a casual or avid stamper. Both cards have the same basic layout, it’s just all the other “stuff” that goes along with creating the cards.

Using the Bundle and DSP
Once I picked the DSP, it seemed like the rest just fell into place using the Paper Players #353 sketch, as seen below:
I used the same DSP for the background matted by gold foil. In addition, I used the flax ribbon and large bees on both cards. Isn’t it great that these dies will work with both the stamp set and the gold and Whisper White DSP? Both cards have the oval shape cropped using layering ovals die set.
Both of the sentiments came front the Honey Bee cling stamp set. For the beginner card, I cropped the sentiment and gold mat using the same layering ovals die set. The “hello” sentiment was cropped using the Stitched Shapes die set. I outlined the oval using gold ink because I thought I had enough going on with the card without an extra mat for the sentiment.
The first card turned out clean and simple, which follows the CTS #353 sketch. Both the card and the sketch are minimalist formats. My upline, Brian King, designed the sketch, and his cards are usually beautifully clean and simple.
While following the same sketch, I added more embellishments for the more involved card using the Honey Bee bundle. The honeycomb gold foil pieces came from the honeycomb die. I stamped the beehive on Whisper White cardstock that I ran through the Big Shot using the subtle 3D embossing folder. Originally, I thought that the texture would be enough for the behive. When I was dry-fitting the card elements, I decided that I needed something more. I pulled out my clear wink of stella pen and drew lines across the beehive horizontally. I cropped both bees out of the Golden Honey DSP using the dies from the bundle.

The DSP Does All the Work
I really did not want to cover up this gorgeous print. The Stampin Up! colors in this print are Purple Posy, Highland Heather, and Smoky Slate.
The sentiment is from the retired, but permanent stamp set on my shelves, Watercolor Christmas. I stamped it in Memento Tuxedo Black on vellum cardstock. It’s been quite a while since I had any luck using embossing powder, but I wanted to try for this card. Therefore, I used my embossing buddy on the vellum before I stamped the sentiment. While still wet, I covered the sentiment with clear embossing powder. I wasn’t sure how it would come out, but it worked. Score! I did need to use the heat gun from the top and bottom to help keep the vellum from warping. The embossing doesn’t show up well on the photo, but it does in person.
I cropped both the vellum and Purple Posy cardstock layer using the Layered Circles die set. Since there wasn’t a way to easily hide the adhesive behind the sentiment, I used a make-up wedge to spread Tombow liquid adhesive over the whole Purple Posy cardstock layer. Since the whole circle is covered with adhesive, it doesn’t show through. Next, I ran a piece of Smoky Slate cardstock through the Big Shot in the Subtles embossing folder, turned the paper 90 degrees and ran it through again. This gave the cardstock a hatched appearance. I used the Layered Circles die set for this circle as well.
Finishing Touches
Next, I matted the DSP on Basic Black cardstock to both coordinate with the sentiment and to provide a real pop against the DSP.
Finally, I tied a pieces of the black glittered organdy ribbon around the base/DSP, popped up the sentiment on dimensionals and attached it down. I used a piece of the DSP on the envelope flap, and I was done.
Easy-peasy!
