Three Hearts Meets Make My Monday # 168

Welcome to a Valentine’s Day Make My Monday challenge! Billie A. chose using three hearts as the theme for this two-week challenge. When you are finished here, I hope you will hop over to the challenge site to see all the inspirational cards the team created!

Here’s my three hearts card:

Even though it doesn’t photograph well, here’s a close-up of the Wink of Stella I used on the purple hearts dies and the outline of the focal panel:

Measurements and Assembly:

  • The Highland Heather card base measures 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches.
  • The hearts DSP (designer series paper) started out as a 2-7/8 x 5-3/8 inches rectangle. I used the paper trimmer to cut it diagonally. Originally, this dsp started out as one of a set of 15 Valentine’s Day cards I made for my 4 year-old great-niece to exchange at PK today.
  • The Highland Heather DSP measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • I trimmed a coordinating piece of the Valentine’s dsp to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • After I cropped the Real Red cardstock for the focal panel it now measures 4-3/8 inches by 2-3/8 inches.
  • Somewhere along the line I purchased a Stampin’ Up! photopolymer stamp set for Valentine’s Day, from which I used the “LOVE” sentiment.
  • Next, I used the Stamparatus to double heat emboss the sentiment in white.
  • Then, I colored in the LOVE using the Real Red marker.
  • In order to meet the challenge theme, I cropped two groups of three hearts for the opposite diagonal sides of the hearts DSP. Before I adhered the hearts, I colored them with the Clear Wink of Stella.
  • Then, I decided the Real Red cardstock needed some sparkle, so I outlined it with Wink of Stella.
  • I used sentiment stamps from Sweet Conversations in Real Red and Highland Heather for the inside of the card. The inside panel measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • Finally, I used dimensionals under both the Highland Heather DSP to attach it to the card base. I also added dimensionals under the focal LOVE panel. All the other elements were attached using multipurpose glue.

Little Princess for Cardz 4 Galz #158

Welcome to a new Cardz 4 Galz biweekly challenge!  Lynda chose the theme of “princess” for challenge # 158.  I hope you will pop over to the blog to see the variety of princess cards to inspire you.  The possibilities are endless, and I can’t wait to see how you interpret our theme.

Here’s my card:

Measurements:

  • The Basic Gray card base measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches. I scored it at 4-1/4 inches to create a tent fold.
  • The perfectly feminine Flirty Flamingo DSP (designer series paper), which is from the Pattern Party Host DSP pack, measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches. I also trimmed a piece of the DSP to 2-1/2 inches by 6 inches for the envelope flap. This pattern is the reverse side of the pattern I used for this week’s Cardz 4 Guyz #282 challenge. You can see that card here.
  • I used my one-inch circle punch to punch a seal for the envelope from a scrap piece of Basic Gray 6×6 inch DSP.
  • I used a stitched rectangle die to crop the swan focal image panel. This panel measures4-1/4 inches by 3 inches.
  • While I had the white cardstock out, I trimmed a piece to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches for the inside panel.
  • The Basic Gray mat for the sentiment measures 3 inches by 1 inch. I stamped and cropped the sentiment from a scrap piece of white cardstock.

What I Did for this Easy-Peasy Card:

  • I went back and forth about coloring or not coloring the swan. I’m pleased with my decision to not color her. She’s gorgeous just the way she is.
  • After deciding to use the Flirty Flamingo metallic ribbon, I used a gold Wink of Stella to color the swan’s crown.
  • The white cardstock seemed to just blend into the DSP behind it. Therefore, I used the Flirty Flamingo marker to outline the focal panel. That little bit of color really makes the white cardstock stand out.
  • Before adhering the DSP to the cardstock, I wrapped a length of ribbon around the DSP and tied it in a bow. I have to say, sometimes I can tie a pretty decent bow. This was one of those times.
  • I used multipurpose liquid adhesive to adhere everything but under the Basic Grey sentiment mat. There are dimensionals under the sentiment mat. Looking at that mat now, I can see I didn’t do a very good job of straddling the mat over the ribbon. I am going to have to fix that.
  • Finally, I added 4 pastel pearls to the corners of the sentiment panel. They aren’t Flirty Flamingo, but they are really, really close.

Artistically Inked for FMS#490

Hello and welcome! I’ve used the absolutely stunning Artistically Ink DSP and stamp set for my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches.

Here’s my card:

Here’s the challenge banner for Freshly Made Sketches 490:

In order to keep with the FMS style, I just used a banner of the DSP and the large flower and leaves from the stamp set. Using the white cardstock for the background creates a great deal of openness. I did emboss the white cardstock with the Subtles 3D embossing folder, but it is barely noticeable.

Measurements:

  • I started with a Magenta Madness based trimmed to 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches to create a tent-fold card.
  • The bright pink just seemed too bright to me, so I used Basic Black to offset the brightness. The Basic Black background mat measures 4-1/4 inhes by 5-3/8 inches. I used a scrap piece of black cardstock for the sentiment panel. The black mat for the DSP measures 1-3/8 inches by 5 inches.
  • The DSP measures 1-1/4 inches by 4-7/8 inches. While I had the DSP out, I trimmed a piece to 2-1/2 inches by 6 inches for the envelope flap. Then I punched a 1 inch circle of coordinating DSPfor the envelope seal. I ran the circle through my XYRON create-a-sticker and then placed it inside the envelope.
  • I trimmed the white cardstock to 4-1/4 inches by 5-1/2 inches. Then, I ran it through the Big Shot using the Subtles embossing folder. Finally, I trimmed the white cardstock to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
    • TIP: if you emboss your cardstock before trimming to the desired measurements you will be able to get a more precise panel.
  • The white inside panel measures my normal 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • I used scraps of white cardstock for the flower, leaves, and sentiment.

Stamping and Such

  • First, I stamped the floral image on scrap white cardstock using the Magenta Madness ink pad. Since this is a distinctive stamp, you automatically get the variations in color saturation.
  • Then, I used the center stamp and also stamped it with Magenta Madness. I thought there didn’t seem to be enough distinction between the flower and the center, so I used the Stampin’ write marker to outline the center. Finally, I stamped the center in some Delicata gold ink. It’s very light, but there is a bit of a shine in person.
  • I wanted to mimic the openness of the gold on the flowers in the DSP for the stamped leaves. The double leaf stamp is a distinctive stamp, so there are already variations in the stamping. After stamping the leaves in Versmark, I covered it with gold stamping emboss powder. Then, I used a very small, thin, angled make-up brush to pull some of the powder off. Finally, heat set the leaves.
  • I used the die set from the bundle to crop out the flower and leaves.
  • The white sentiment was cropped using a stitched rectangle die.
  • I used multipurpose glue to adhere most of the pieces together. There are dimensionals under the flower, leaves, and sentiment.
  • Finally, I added three gilded gems to the card in a triangle shape.

With that, I’d finished this card/envelope/seal coordinated set.

I’d love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.

Make My Monday Challenge – At the Beach

Good morning and welcome back for another Make My Monday challenge. The new challenge calls for a beach theme. I might have to explain what I did for a beachy card, though.

Here’s my card:

While my card doesn’t contain a strict beach scene, to me the Tropical Oasis DSP very definitely conveys a Hawaiian vibe. The vintage cars with surfboards on top, the palm trees, and the colors all say BEACH to me.

Measurements:

This card turned out to be much easier than I thought it would be.

  • I trimmed Whisper White to 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, and scored it at 5-1/2 inches. This provided me with a card base.
  • The Pretty Peacock bottom mat measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • I cut the Tropical Oasis DSP to 2-5/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches. Then I used the Pretty Peacock Stamping Write marker to outline the the DSP so it created a border without the extra bulk of more cardstock.
  • Since I thought that I had the coordinating die set, I took time using the Stamparatus for the palm trees. I really couldn’t have easily created all the colorful frond without the Stamparatus. In order to create the palm trees I used the Stamping Write Markers so I could add detail to the leaves.
  • For the trunks, I used the Early Espresso marker on just the trunks and stamped them. Next, I used the Old Olive marker to color the all the fronds and stamped them. In order to add color, I used the Pretty Peacock marker and randomly swiped it on the fronds part of the stamp, then stamped it.
  • This is where things got interesting. I don’t actually have the coordinating die set. However, I really wanted to use the palm trees, so I had to fussy cut them out. They came out much better than I would have thought.

Finishing Up

  • Next, I had to decide on a sentiment. The main reason I picked this one was that it fit where I needed it to be. We’ve all done that, right? I used Early Espresso to stamp it on another pattern of the Tropical DSP, which I cropped using the Rectangle Stitched dies.
  • There are dimensionals under the sentiment to pop it up. I attached the palm tree trunks to the sentiment and popped it up on dimensionals as well.
  • Before adhering the sentiment and palm trees, I wrapped Early Espresso faux suede trim and tied it in a square knot.
  • Next, I adhered the sentiment and palm trees.
  • I cut a piece of the sentiment DSP to 4-1/4 inches by 1/2 inch and adhered it to the bottom of the inside of the card.
  • Finally, I cut a pieces of the brown grass cloth DSP pattern to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches, adhered it to the envelope flap, then trimmed it.
  • With that, I’d completed this card/envelope set.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d also love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.

One Card, Three Challenges!

I don’t think I’ve been able to combine three challenges into one card before. However, for this card, I combined the Global Design Project 251, Freshly Made Sketches 446, and Sunday Stamps Challenge 236. Wow! The #GDP251 challenge required an aquatic theme. FMS446 wanted a slimline card, and SSC236 is a sketch challenge.

Here’s my card:

Here are the challenge banners:

Measurements:

  • The Granny Apple Green base is 7 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored vertically at 3-1/2 inches.
  • For the front of the card, I trimmed white cardstock to 3-3/8 inches by 8-3/8 inches. I also trimmed a piece of white cardstock to 3-1/4 inches by 8-1/4 inches for the inside.
  • Since the Whale of a Time DSP measures 6 inches by 6 inches, I had to very carefully combine two pieces of DSP. I used two of the Pacific Point wave patterns for the front. I left the waves on the bottom, and combined the darker piece to the top. The final measurement for this DSP combination came out to 3-1/4 inches by 8-1/4 inches.
  • The Bumblebee DSP measures 1-1/4 inches wide by 3 inches long. Since the middle will be covered, I didn’t need to use long strips of this DSP.
  • After embossing a piece of 4-1/4 inches by 5-1/2 inches piece of white cardstock with the Seabed 3D embossing folder, I trimmed it to 3-7/8 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • I trimmed the turtle DSP to 2-3/8 inches by 6 inches. Dimensionals provide the popped up height.

Assembly:

  • Once I had all my pieces trimmed, I settled on the sentiment. Using the Momento Tuxedo Black ink, I stamped the sentiment on a scrap piece of white cardstock, then cropped it using a stitched rectangle die.
  • I used a piece of the Granny Apple Green DSP from the Whale of a Time set and cropped it using the Stitched So Sweetly dies. The sentiment is adhered directly to the DSP using the multipurpose liquid glue, and there are dimensionals under the DSP.
  • Since I’d already cut all the pieces I needed, I just needed to start at the bottom and put the card together following the Sunday Stamps sketch. It took me longer to measure and cut all the pieces than it did to assemble the card.
The Inside:
  • I wanted to make this a birthday card, so I used the “Hoping all your birthday fishes come true” on the inside. I guess I didn’t think too much about it, but I decided to stamp turtles on the inside to match the front of the card instead of fish to match the sentiment. In the long run, I don’t think anyone will notice other than you and me.
  • For some reason, I really struggled with this turtle stamp. When I tried to stamp it fresh off the ink pad, I wound up with blobs. Thankfully, I started my test stamps on my grid paper. I decided to use Just Jade and Pacific Point ink and stamped all of the turtles second generation on the white cardstock.
  • Finally, I stamped some air bubbles using Pool Party.
  • Here’s the inside of the card:
  • With that, I’d finished my slimline, three challenge card. I still have to make an envelope to go with it, but am hoping it will fit in a legal size envelope.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d also love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.
