Using Snowflakes for the Sparkles Christmas Buddies Challenge # 126

Welcome to my second post for the Sparkles Christmas Buddies Challenge! This month’s challenge, #126, chosen by Debs, is all about using snowflakes, and more than one snowflake. In the past few weeks, I’ve realized that I don’t have any stars and am limited on snowflake products as well. Therefore, I used retired snowflake DSP with a current stamp set, Snowmen Season. I just love this stamp set! I miss snow ~ I grew up out on the south shore of Long Island, New York. Now, I live in Central Florida and our winters last about 3-4 weeks. Anyway, I digress.

Here’s my card:

The inspiration for the layout of this card comes from the Try Stamping on Tuesday Challenge #512. Here’s the challenge banner:

Try Stamping on Tuesday is teaming up for this challenge with the Double Trouble Challenge! With this challenge, you have options from which you can choose to play along. I hit the options for Thing 1 (squares), Thing 2 (post to TSOT 512), and Thing 3 (I used both dry and heat embossing). SCORE!

Here’s their banner from the first part of the challenge:

Measurements:

  • I started with a Night of Navy base measuring 8-1/2 inches by 5-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
  • The Balmy Blue middle layer measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • The black and white top layer of DSP measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • I used a scrap piece of Balmy Blue on which I stamped the snowman. It’s cropped to 1-7/8 inches square using the layering square dies. Next, I used the next size up die for the Night of Navy mat.
  • The layering dies also made it relatively easy to crop the square in the black DSP. The outside measurements 2-5/8 inches square. The inside measures 2-3/8 inches square. Here’s a picture of how I cropped this frame:
  • The washi tape will hold the dies in place while I run it through the Big Shot.
  • I really needed something under the square frame to block off the design of the DSP. I used a scrap piece of white cardstock and embossed it with a bark 3D embossing folder. The square measures 2-5/8 inches square.
  • I also cut a piece of the black DSP to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap. For the envelope seal, I punched out one of the snowflakes using my 1 inch circle punch.
  • I stamped the sentiment on scrap white cardstock and cropped it with a stitched rectangle die. Then, I used the Balmy Blue marker to outline the sentiment panel.
  • Finally, the white cardstock panel on the inside measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.

What I Did:

  • For starters, I adhered the DSP, and Balmy Blue cardstock to the Night of Navy cardstock using multipurpose liquid glue.
  • Next, I adhered the white cardstock to the front of the card where I wanted the frame to be placed.
  • Using my stamparatus, my embossing buddy and the black Stamping Write Marker, I stamped the snowman. The stamparatus allowed me to color just the snowman without coloring the snow and snowflakes.
  • About this time I realized that a VersaMark marker would be a very good thing to have. Since finishing this card, I found that there actually is a Versa Mark pen. It has a bullet end and a brush end. I ordered two from Amazon and they arrive on Friday. YEAH!
  • I put dimesnionals between the Balmy Blue and Night of Navy mat for the snowman.
  • After adhering the snowman block to the embossed white cardstock, I used dimensionals just in the corners of the black square frame.
  • The sentiment is also popped up on dimensionals.
  • Finally, I decided to add some bling to the snowflakes. I used some jewel rhinestones. I didn’t want to put a jewel on each snowflake, so I put them on the snowflakes with round centers.
  • Lastly, I stamped “Merry Christmas” and some snowflakes in the bottom corners of the inside panel.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card/envelope/seal stamp set.
