Clean and Simple Two-fer for PPC427 & PP542

Welcome to my one card for two challenges! The Paper Craft Crew #427 calls for a clean and simple card with a minimum of layers. The Paper Players #542 provided the sketch for my two-fer card.

Let me say here that creating this card took as about as much time as it did to figure out how to get the banners and links to show up. When did that get so difficult?

#simplestamping

#simplestamping kind of doesn’t fit this card because there isn’t any stamping involved. Literally. I used some Snail Mail DSP, the Snail Dies, 6 mini-dimensionals, white cardstock, the Bark 3D embossing folder, 3 glue dots, and some multipurpose glue.

Confession time: I really had a hard time looking at the plain envelope on the front of the card. Therefore, I went back and add a little, tiny red resin heart to the seam of the flaps. I just had to do it. It’s not noticeable, really. However, in keeping with the clean and simple theme, I didn’t take another picture.

What I Did:

  • The base of the card is white cardstock. I trimmed it to 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches to create a tent card.
  • The embossed layer originally measured 4-1/4 by 5-1/2 inches. After I ran it through the bark embossing folder, I trimmed it to 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • The bottom piece of Bermuda Bay DSP measures 1-1/2 inches by 4-1/8 inches. While I had the DSP out, I trimmed a piece to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap. Then I adhered the DSP to the flap and fussy cut it down.
  • The hearts DSP also comes from Snail Mail, as does the adorable snail and the cute little bubble greeting. I used three of the dies from the snail dies set to crop out these shapes.
  • I used two glue dots to seal down the little envelope flaps and one glue dot to secure the snail inside the envelope.
  • There’s multipurpose glue on the bottom part of the envelope to adhere to the Bermuda Bay DSP. There are 3 mini-dimensionals behind the top part so it would lay flat.
  • There are three dimensionals behind the cute little bubble sentiment.
  • Finally, I used multipurpose adhesive to adhere the card front to the base. I could’ve used dimensionals, but I really needed to give the appearance of one layer for the base.
  • That’s it. Truly! Done! I wanted to put a piece of ribbon where the DSP ended under the snail/envelope but I held myself back from doing so.

Snail Mail Double Gate Fold for the Creative Creases Challenge #4

The Snail Mail Suite was on the bottom of my wish list from the current mini-catalog. After seeing all the fabulous cards, and the pretty darn cute DSP. Today, I am using this double-sided DSP for the double gate fold card.

Debbie included this link to Dawn Olchefske’s tutorial on Splitcoast Stampers. Dawn has pictures along with her step-by-step instructions as well as a video. While the finished cards look very complicated, it’s actually not very complicated. But that can just be a secret, because the recipient will be very impressed!

Helpful Tips

  • Big tip #1: Make sure the patterns are different in colors or pattern density. I first thought I’d use Forever Greenery DSP, but I didn’t choose wisely. You can see what I mean in my “bad” choice in the picture below:
  • Big tip #2: Be very careful when working with one-way up patterns of DSP. I love the white background snail DSP, but it is one-way. When I got ready to flip the triangles to the bottom, I realized my problem. To solve the problem, I traced each triangle on another piece of the DSP so I could adhere it the correct way.
  • If I lost you with tip # 2, just remember not to start your first double gate fold card with one way up DSP.

Measurements and Such

  • I followed the tutorial for the measurements of the DSP. Therefore, I cut the double-sided DSP to 5-1/2 inches by 12 inches.
  • The front Real Red square panel and the snail were both cropped using the accompanying snail dies. Don’t you just love when you can use dies to crop the DSP? While I could’ve stamped and then colored this snail, I went for quick and used the die.
  • I used both the pink and the white baker’s twine from this suite for a sweet little bow on the front.
  • The Real Red mat on the inside measures 3-1/2 inches by 5 inches.
  • The white panel measures 3-3/8 inches by 4-7/8 inches.
  • I used the envelope die from the snail die set to crop out the adorable little stitched envelope. The die set also includes the little heart, which I cropped in Real Red.
  • Then, I stamped the “hello” greeting on white and cropped it using the rectangle stitched dies. In order to have the greeting panel stand out from the envelope, I outlined it using my Real Red marker.
  • I couldn’t figure out a way to get this greeting on the front, so I carefully placed it on the top of the inside so it shows when the card is closed.
  • Then I stamped the “You snailed it” greeting on the inside panel.
  • Finally, I worked on the envelope. I stamped the front of the envelope with “HAPPY MAIL enclosed”. After adhering and trimming a piece of the pink swirly pattern on the DSP to the envelope, I’d completed this card/coordinating envelope set.
