Scary Cute for MMM # 186

Welcome to the Make My Monday two-week challenge # 186!  I’m the host for #186, and I chose the themes of spooky and/or Halloween colors (purple, orange, green, black).  Whether you participate in Halloween or not, I hope you can find some inspiration in my card, which I CASe’d, or the other design team members.  I’m looking forward to seeing what you create, so please add your card to our gallery..  Happy crafting!

Here’s my fun fold Scary Cute card:

I’ll admit that I struggled with my own challenge in that I couldn’t figure out what I really wanted to do.  When my mojo is missing, I turn to Pinterest for ideas, and this time was no different.  I found inspiration in Elaine’s Creations Scary Cute card, and my mojo returned.  I didn’t copy her card exactly, but you can see just how much it inspired my own card.

Here’s Elaine’s Creation:

Elaine’s fussy cutting skills are off the charts!

Measurements:

  • The Parakeet Party base measures 4-1/4 by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches.
  • The Basic Black measures 4 inches by 11-1/2 inches, scored at 2-5/8 and 5-1/4 inches.
  • I used two patterns of the Black and White Designs DSP (designer series paper). The larger piece measures 3-7/8 by 5 inches. The two checkerboard pieces measure 2-5/8 by 4 inches. I punched a 1-inch circle from the stars pattern DSP for the envelope seal.
  • The Basic White cardstock for the inside measures 4 by 5-1/4 inches.
  • I used a piece of Parakeet Party 6 x 6 inch DSP for the background of the tree frame. I also cut a piece of this DSP to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • In addition, I used a scrap piece of Parakeet Party cardstock for the front panel of trick-or-treaters.

Stamping and Cropping:

  • All the stamps and die cuts come from the Scary Cute bundle. I only used the Momento Tuxedo Black ink for this card.
  • I stamped the front panel of trick-or-treaters, BOO!, and the bats on a piece of Parakeet Party cardstock.
  • Next, I stamped the inside sentiment and fairy princess on the white cardstock.
  • HINT: When using the silhouette stamps, it’s much easier to use the Stamparatus to ensure that you get the depth of color that you want while making sure everything stays lined up correctly.
  • Next, I cropped everything I needed for both the inside and the outside. Once I had the black tree frame cropped, I used the negative leftover piece to crop the cat.
  • Any time I’ve cropped this tree frame, I’ve saved the negative pieces. Therefore, I used two of these negative pieces to crop all the bats I needed.
  • Next, I adhered the frame pieces, the cat, and the bats using multipurpose liquid glue. There are dimensionals under the finished frame.
  • I cropped the front Parakeet Party cardstock using a deckled rectangle die. Then, I outlined it using the same color marker so the edges would be clean. Next, I added a piece of the black glittery washi tape to the bottom of the panel, which grounded the trick-or-treaters so they don’t look like they are floating. I added dimensionals under this panel as well.

Assembly:

  • Before adhering the DSP pieces to the front of the card and the white cardstock panel to the inside, I added some glittery Old Olive washi tape to the bottom of the panels.
  • Then, I adhered the DSP pieces to the cardstock.
  • I wrapped a length of the gorgeous Metallic Mesh Ribbon around the top of the black easel cardstock and tied it in a bow. Then, I adhered the black base to the Parakeet Party base using multipurpose liquid glue. At the same time, I adhered the white cardstock to the inside of the card.
  • HINT: This metallic ribbon is also spectacular for Christmas cards, and I’m posting a card with it tomorrow.
  • The last pieces to add were the frame and the front sentiment.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

Thank you very much for stopping by my blog today.

Have a Peachy Day!

Say BOO! with the October InKing Royalty Blog Hop

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s October Blog Hop! Boo! Today we are sharing scary and sweet projects perfect for Halloween. We are excited to share our creations and hope you love them! After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

I’ve already posted all kinds of cards using the Kindest Gnomes bundle, and I’m adding another one for this blog hop.  Today, I combined a gnome with the Scary Cute bundle for my BOO! card.  I created a simple z-fold card using both bundles.

Here’s my BOO! card:

Measurements:

  • The Gorgeous Grape base measures 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 2-3/4 and 5-1/2 inches.
  • The two Old Olive panels measure 4-1/8 by 2-5/8 inches.
  • The Gingham Cottage Pumpkin Pie DSP (designer series paper) measures 5-1/4 by 4 inches, mainly because that’s all I had left of the paper.
  • The Scary Silhouettes die set was used for all the cropped pieces, except the gnome, of course.
  • I cropped the Gorgeous Grape and white cardstock using the Scary Silhouettes die.
  • The are three layers Basic Black frames adhered together with multipurpose liquid glue.
  • I placed dimensionals under the bats and the gnome since they would be placed on the open part of the z-fold card base.

Stamping, Cropping, and Coloring:

  • I used Old Olive ink and the trio of bats stamp and stamped them randomly on both Old Olive panels.
  • Next, I used a blending brush and Mango Melody ink on white cardstock to create the moon. After I punched it out using a 1-inch circle punch. In order to get it to fit in the corner under the frames, I used the open base die. Then, I adhered it under the frames.
  • I used the Momento Tuxedo Black ink to stamp both sentiments and the bats on the white cardstock.
  • My desire to save cardstock when possible gave me an idea for cropping the spooky house so it fits inside the frames. I found that after cropping the frames, I could place the house die at the bottom of the negative space from the frames. By sitting the house right up against the edge, the resulting cropped house will fit the frames perfectly.
  • I needed to make sure that I only adhered the left side of the the framed piece on the front. Then, I carefully placed the white cardstock under the framed piece on the front so the white wouldn’t show when I closed the card.
  • I used Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, and Smoky Slate blends combos. I created the lines on this cuties’ pants using my Old Olive marker.
  • Next, I used a Basic Black marker for the lantern and colored the “glass” using the clear Wink of Stella.
  • With that, I’d finished this adorable BOO! card.

Another Halloween Fun Fold for Cardz 4 Galz #184

Welcome to the Cardz 4 Galz two-week challenge #184.  Our host for this challenge, Pamela, chose Halloween and/or a color challenge using orange, purple, and/or black for the theme.  I’ve already shared some Halloween posts, and you can see those cards here and here.  When you finish here, I hope you will hop over to the Cardz 4 Galz challenge site to see the cards from the rest of the design team members.  The Halloween cards are cute, and the color challenge cards are gorgeous.  I’d love to see your creations in our gallery for challenge #184!

This isn’t the first time I’ve created a card with this fun fold from Connie Stewart. ( I embedded her video for this fun fold below.)  The first card linked above is the same fold.  I made that card and coordinating book mark for my 7 year old great-niece.  I haven’t decided if this card needs to go to my (almost) 5 year old great niece, or my Halloween loving daughter.  This fold looks complicated.  However, if you can trim and score your paper, you can definitely make this fun fold!  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Here’s my card:

Measurements:

Not only does Connie Stewart give you very clear directions for trimming and scoring, she also includes clear instructions for making the whole card!

  • The very back base of Gorgeous Grape cardstock measures 5-1/2 by 4-1/4 inches.
  • I used Smoky Slate for the folded base of the card. I trimmed it to 5-1/4 by 11 inches. Then, I scored it at 1-3/4 and 3-1/2 inches from either long end.
  • Next, I trimmed 3 black pieces of cardstock trimmed to 1-3/4 by 4 inches. These pieces line up on the front of the card.
  • I used Old Olive and black DSP (designer series paper) from last Halloween, Each of the two pieces measures 1-5/8 by 3-3/4 inches.
  • I added DSP to the inside folded panels. The stars and dots DSP pieces measure 1-5/8 by 4 inches and I needed two of them.
  • I used this same DSP for the envelope flap, and it measures 6 by 2-1/2 inches. At the same time, I punched a 1 inch circle of the Old Olive DSP for the envelope seal.
  • The white cardstock for the inside of the card measures 3-3/4 by 5 inches.
  • Using the dies from the Scary Cute bundle, I cropped the frame, haunted house, batts, and cat from Basic Black cardstock..
  • HINT: If you want a perfect fit for the house to sit inside the spooky mat, crop the house from the negative part of the frame mat. By lining the house die up with the bottom of the negative piece, the house and fence will be cropped to the perfect size.
  • That’s it for the measurements.

Putting the Card Together:

  • II adhered all the pieces together using multipurpose liquid glue. The card is already thick and didn’t want dimensionals to make it any thicker.
  • I used the Scary Cute stamp set and Momento Tuxedo Black ink to do all the necessary stamping.
  • The black stars came from a Paper Pumpkin Halloween kit from two years ago.
  • I can completely and totally guarantee you that following Connie Stewart’s video will help you put the card together much better than I can describe the steps. However, I have some tips I can share to hopefully make it easier for you.
  • HINT: This glittery washi tape does not shed!!!! Score!!! However, the tape also needs some multipurpose liquid glue if you need to layer the tape at all. The adhesive on the washi tape isn’t enough to hold one layer onto another layer of the glittery washi tape.
  • HINT #2: I used a blending brush and Crushed Curry ink to color a piece of white cardstock for the moon. I punched out a 1-inch circle and adhered it using multipurpose liquid glue to the back of the frame. Even though I fussy cut the circle as close as possible to the frame, it was still possible to see the light colored cardstock against the black cardstock. To solve this minor problem, I used the brush end of a Basic Black marker to outline the white cardstock layer.
  • All that’s left to say is have fun! I really hope you try this fun fold! It’s fabulous!!!
  • After all that, this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set was finished!

Thank you very much for stopping by my blog today.

Say BOO! for September’s Fun Fold Blog Hop

Welcome to the September Fun Fold Challenge Blog Hop!  Those of us in the hop are current Stampin’ UP! demonstrators.  However, everyone, no matter the supplies you use, is invited to play along with the recurring Creative Creases fun fold challenge!  I hope to see you in the challenge gallery!

My fun fold card uses the Scary Cute bundle from the current July – December 2022 mini-catalog.  This set is absolutely adorable and the coordinating glittered washi tape is beyond fabulously sparkly!  The best part about it is that you will not have glitter all over your desk from this washi tape!  Trust me – I would not use it if it shed all over the place!

For Christmas last year, I made my now 6 year old great-niece a card with a Grinch tag, which she used as a bookmark.  So, I made my card, and the coordinating bookmark, her this set for Halloween:

Since finding the Connie Stewart video for this fun fold, I’ve already created it a number of times.  You can see two of those cards here and here.  Don’t tell anyone, but it is a super easy fun fold!  Her video makes the whole process a breeze.  Truly, if you can trim and score paper, this fun fold is for you!  Her video explains the card with step-by-step directions.  Once you create this fun fold, you will be hooked, so be prepared to use it over and over and over.

Measurements:

  • The Smoky Slate base measures 5-1/4 by 11 inches. It’s scored at 1-3/4 and 3-1/2 inches from either end of the length of the base.
  • I also trimmed 3 pieces of Smoky Slate to 1-3/4 by 4 inches for the flaps.
  • The Gorgeous Grape mat for the front was cropped using the Scary Silhouettes dies, as was the black frame with the trees.
  • HINT: If you are going to use the spooky house inside the black frame, there’s an easy way to crop it so the fence sits perfectly inside the frame. I used the negative piece from the frame and placed the house die so it lined up with the bottom of the frame. When I cropped it, the fence pieces wound up being the exact same as the frame. I didn’t need to trim it at all. Score!
  • I needed one piece of Basic White cardstock for the inside and measures 3-3/4 by 5 inches.
  • I used a piece of Gorgeous Grape cardstock onto which I mounted the Smoky Slate base. The Gorgeous Grape piece measures 5-1/2 by 4-1/4 inches.
  • The gray and black polka dot DSP (designer series paper) measures 3-3/4 by 4-7/8 inches. From that piece, I trimmed it down to three equal pieces measuring 1-3/8 by 3-3/4 inches. I used two for the top and bottom flaps.
  • Next, I added the strips of glitter washi tape to the third piece of DSP so I had a guide.
  • HINT: The black washi tape jut barely overlapped the Highland Heather washi tape and wouldn’t stick properly. Therefore, I used multipurpose liquid glue to help it stick.
  • Next, I trimmed a piece of the polka dot DSP to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • Finally, I used two pieces of white and black polka dot DSP for the inside. Each piece measures 1-5/8 by 5-1/8 inches.

Putting the Card Together:

  • Amazingly, I didn’t use any dimensionals on this card. All the pieces are adhered using multipurpose liquid glue.
  • I followed Connie Stewart’s directions for assembly. However, I did add some additional touches.
  • For example, I cropped the spooky cat and bats for the flaps from black cardstock using the Scary Silhouette dies. They peek out when the card is opened.
  • The moon on the front started as a piece of white cardstock. I used a blending brush and Crushed Curry ink to color the piece of white and punched it using my 1-inch circle punch.
  • I stamped BOO! on the front to cover an oops. It fits perfectly.
  • Finally, I stamped the silhouettes in black ink on the inside, along with the trio of bats and the sentiment on the white cardstock for the inside.

The Bookmark:

  • I used a piece of retired Halloween DSP for the front of the bookmark and adhered it to a piece of Smoky Slate cardstock.. The bookmark measures 2-3/8 by 4-7/8 inches.
  • Then, I recreated the framed mat for the front. However, this time I had room to add the spooky cat to the the top of the frame..
  • I added the glitter washi tape to the back of the cardstock. One again, I had to use multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the black piece of washi.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, envelope seal, and bookmark set.
