New Wonders meets Christmas in July

New Wonders Hostess Stamp Set

When I first saw this stamp set, and some of the samples in the catalog and on Pinterest, I thought this set was absolutely adorable, has angels, and a beautiful font.  However, I also thought that coloring the precious angels would be time consuming and difficult.  Boy, was I wrong!!  The first card I created (which will be in an upcoming blog post) was so easy and fun!  Just like that, and I am completely hooked on this stamp set.  It’s always wonderful when a stamp set turns out to be so versatile!

One thing led to another, and I wound up trying out this angels for Christmas cards.  Here are the two versions, and the inside for both are the same:

Christmas in July

The Old Olive Christmas DSP has retired, as has the Real Red ribbon.  However, those two colors gave me my color palette.   These cards would also be adorable using Old Olive and Real Red cardstock.  As I am typing this, I am thinking that I can use Old Olive for the background and emboss it with the Tufted TIEF.  Cuteness overload!  I would also emboss the Real Red mat using the Subtle TIEF.  Now, I know what my next pair of Christmas cards will be!  Since I try to do something at least a little bit different for each Christmas card, these would be perfect!

Using both light and dark Old Olive and Real Red, I happily colored the angels clothes. I used the So Saffron blends, both light and dark, for the angels’ hair.  Wink of Stella Clear is on their wings, and Wink of Stella Gold is on the pen tips.  I colored the pen with the light and dark Crumb Cake blends.

The Making Christmas Bright stamp set carried over into the current catalog and, I think, it completely matches the angels.

Vibrant Vases for Freshly Made Sketches

This Should Have Been a Three-fer.

When I created this card, it was for the What Will You Stamp Challenge, WWYS#211  for the Vibrant Vases, and Freshly Made Sketches FMS380 provided the layout.  I missed the deadline for WWYS#211, but I am going to make the FMS380 deadline.  The color pallette was provided by Color Throwdown, ctd535.

Here are all the challenge banners:

Here’s my Vibrant Vases, Freshly Made Sketches, and What Will You Stamp card:

Flower Fun

I first stamped all the flowers in Basic Black, and then used the two-step stamps for the roses and the daisies in Daffodil Delight.  Coloring over the stamped Daffodil Delight ink with my Stamping Up Stamp Write markers allowed me to lightly shade the flowers.

I thoroughly enjoyed coloring these flowers with the Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, and Real Red Stamping Write Markers.  I didn’t dare try to use the Stamping Blends because the flowers were small and I didn’t want it to run.  Coloring relaxes me, and when the SU stamps provide beautiful images, how could I not love the coloring.

The sentiment is also from Vibrant Vases.  I used the Stitched Shapes small rectangle to crop the flowers, and the Rectangle Stitched dies for the sentiment.  All the squares and the sentiment got the popped-up treatment from some dimensionals.  Finally, I placed some of my current fave ribbon, the tulle polka dots, under my greeting and I was done.

A Sweet Sign of Santa for the InKing Royalty Blog Hop

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s November Blog Hop!

This year’s Blog Hop themes are inspired by popular songs – this month’s song is “We are Family.” As you might guess, our Blog Hop today is filled with projects that are inspired by family – we have a wide variety of projects today! We are excited to share our creations with you today! After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

Live and Learn (at least I hope I did!)

If you are like me, there are times you think you will wait to order a specific product/bundle.  Then, when you go to place your order, the products are gone.  Just gone before you ordered.  Well, that’s exactly what happened with the Signs of Santa die set and DSP.  Just gone.

However, I had ordered the stamps, and I wanted to make a sweet Santa card with this set for each of my (2 year old and 1 year old) great-nieces.  It took me three times to get something with which I was happy,  but I had so much fun creating this card, and the coloring was extremely relaxing.

Here’s the outside and inside of my “We are Family” card for my great-nieces:

Signs of Santa

So.much.fun.  I hope this sweet Santa card inspires you to color your own images from this fabulously adorable set.  I used Real Red for Santa and Mrs. Claus, the ribbon, and the cardstock..  The greens are Shaded Spruce, including the mats) and Soft Sea Foam.

One of the elements that caused me to try, try, and try again was Swirly Scribbles “snow”.  Even though I wanted the snow to be Whisper White,  I also wanted it to stand out just enough to be seen.  When I finally decided to crop the Swirly Scribble from the Glossy White cardstock I was able to get the look I wanted for the snow.

I needed to figure out something that would keep the presents from floating on the snow.    Thankfully, I have a Stamp-a-ma-jig and used that for the ridge of the snow line under the presents.   I used my Basic Black Stamping Write marker to color just that ridge line on the pole stamp.  It was easy to line up the ridge using the Stamp-a-ma-Jig,

Falling snow was a necessity, but I knew I couldn’t use the Sofly Falling embossing folder since I was coloring each stamp.  I fell back on to a technique I copied from my upline, Brian King (check out his post before you leave this hop!), and used the Fine Tip Glue Pen to place drops of glue simulating snow falling.

Adding Bling!

Finally, I wanted some subtle bling on the card.  Therefore, I pulled out my Wink of Stella clear and gold pens.  Santa’s belt buckle was the only place where I used the gold Wink of Stella.  Layers of the clear Wink of Stella are on the trim and pom pom of Santa’s hat, the snow on the pole, and Mrs. Claus’ dress.  Wink of Stella is very difficult to photograph, but I hopebits of sparkle show up on the following photos:

Coloring is Relaxing

I hope you try to create your own cards using the wonderful stamp set, which is still available.  Santa LOVE!  I took my time, relaxed, and colored.  I think it turned out pretty cute.  What do you think?  Leave a comment letting me know why you enjoy coloring.  Can’t wait to hear your reasons!

Color Challenge for GDP#141

Global Design Project # 141

This week the color challenge is to use Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, and Rich Razzleberry.  I’ll be honest and say I would never have put these three colors together, but when I saw the challenge post, I loved the combination.  I’ve had these colors bouncing around inside my head all week; I’d think of an idea and then discard it, and think of another and discard it again.  I finally decided I wanted the three colors included in one design.  When I looked through my new stamp sets (TOYS from the 2018 – 2019 catalog) I decided on the Hand Delivered Hostess Set, and the balloons were what caught my attention.

Here’s the color challenge for GDP#141 so you can see these gorgeous colors all lined up:

Hand Delivered

Here’s my finished card:

I used my Stamparatus for this card.  Since there is a problem when stamping too close to the hinges, I moved my Whisper White over to the right side.  There is a SU logo on the foam mat included which allows for a straight line without needing the grid.   When I line the right side of the cardstock up with the right side of the logo I have gotten a much cleaner stamping result.

With the three Bright colors, I needed the rest of the card to be clean and simple.  My SU grid paper got quite a work out when planning this card.  I stamped all the pieces on the grid paper and then planned the color placement so I (hopefully) wouldn’t mess up my mats.  Originally I colored each balloon with my Stamping Write markers, but decided the card was too flat.  Therefore, I stamped the balloons on a scrap of Pumpkin Pie, and another stamp on Real Red.  Fussy cutting was pretty easy for these basic circles.  Mini-dimensionals pop up the Pumpkin Pie balloons. Regular dimensionals pop up the Real Red balloons.  The result is a 3D layering of balloons, giving depth to the card.

I stamped the woman’s skirt in Basic Black for the outline, and Rich Razzleberry for the striped overlay.  I very lightly touched her blouse with Pumpkin Pie, and the collar has a deeper coloring.  Real Red shoes finish off her outfit.   Everyone coordinates their clothes with a bunch of balloons, right?

Finishing Touch

When I was “finished”, I realized I needed a bit of something something on the card.  I didn’t want to add anything outside of the stamped/colored images in order to keep the card clean and simple.  Therefore, I used clear Wink of Stella on the Rich Razzleberry balloons, but that didn’t really solve my problem.  That’s when I pulled out my (retired) Brights enamel shapes.  Each balloon recieved a coordinating star enamel shape.  The greeting had room for just one Real Red enamel shape, but it seems to work. Now, this card was finished.

This hostess set is super cute and very versatile with greetings for graduates, birthdays, and congrats!
