Reconstructing a Card with Fruit for Cardz 4 Galz # 160
Welcome to this two-week challenge for Cardz 4 Galz, #160. This time, Dawn S. has chosen fruits and/or veggies. When you are finished here, I hope you will visit the challenge blog to check out all the design team members’ cards. There’s a great deal of individuality and inspiration to be found there.
Here’s my reconstructed card:
This is not at all the first card that I created. The day after I put the original card together I decided that I wasn’t really happy with it. However, I’d put so much time into heat embossing and fussy cutting that I didn’t want to just start all over.
HINT: I needed to take all the pieces on dimensionals off the original card. I really thought that I’d just have to start all over. I’ve heard that it’s possible to use dental floss and slowly work it underneath the dimensionals. I decided to try the flat end of the Take-Your-Pick tool and gently worked it under each element. It’s important to take your time. I was pretty darn pleased that I got every piece off the original card. Using the tool, I was also able to gently scrape off all the remaining bits of dimensionals off the back of the elements. Doing so allowed me to adhere new dimensionals to the pieces.
Measurements:
- The Mossy Meadow card base measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
- I used a piece of the Harvest Meadow DSP for the background of the card. It measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. While I had the DSP handy, I also trimmed a piece to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches.
- I cropped the white circle using the largest circle from the Stitched Shapes die set (Am I the only one who kept this fabulous die set after it retired?)
- The Mossy Meadow DSP strip measures 3-7/8 inches by 3/4 of an inch.
- Next, I stamped the sentiment from the Pretty Pumpkins die set in Cinnamon Cider. Then, I used a stitched rectangle dies to crop the sentiment.
- The white cardstock for the inside measures 4 inches by 5-14 inches.
- I used scraps for the Cajun Craze and Pumpkin Pie pumpkins, as well as the Mossy Meadows leaves.
What I Did:
- I started this card by stamping pumpkins using Cinnamon Cider ink, but only after I used my embossing buddy to clean off the cardstock pieces.
- After stamping each piece, I immediately covered the stamped image in clear embossing powder. When I had all this pieces covered, I heat set all of them using my heat tool.
- Time to fussy cut. Actually, cutting the pumpkins, leaves and vines was fairly basic since the edges were clean. Then I put dimensionals under the three pumpkins, being careful to place them so the overlapping pumpkins would just need a dot of multipurpose adhesive.
- I used the Sparkle of the Season stamp set to stamp the images on the white circle. First. I stamped the spiral in Cinnamon Cider. Then, I used the little trio of leaves and the Mossy Meadow, Cajun Craze, and Pumpkin Pie markers to color each leave. Thankfully, the trio stamps cleanly. I just had to stamp, color, stamp, repeat.
- After I finished stamping, I outlined the white cardstock circle using the Cajun Craze marker.
- I also put dimensionals under the Mossy Meadow strip of DSP and the sentiment piece. Again, place them carefully so that the multipurpose adhesive adheres the overlapping pieces.
- For the inside, I went back to the Pretty Pumpkins stamp set and used the largest pumpkin in the center of the white cardstock. I did stamp the Cinnamon Cider off twice before stamping the pumpkin. Finally, I stamped “GRATEFUL” in Mossy Meadow over the pumpkin.
Finishing Up:
- I also stamped part of the pumpkin in full strength off the bottom left-hand corner of the front of the envelope.
- As always, the last thing I did was punch a 1 inch circle out of Mossy Meadow DSP, which I then ran through my XYRON create-a-sticker for the envelope seal. With that, I’d finished this coordinated card/envelope/seal set.
