Combination of Color Throwdown #496 & CAS(E) This Sketch Retro

Have to Love a Two-fer!

Color Throwdown #496 is one of my favorite color combinations with black, aqua, and white.  CAS(E) This Sketch #275 is a Retro sketch from CTS#3.   I put both of these challenges together, and used on of my current fav stamp sets, Petal Pallette, and also the Sheet Music background stamp.  Petal Pallette, Swirly Bird, and Stitched Shapes die sets were also used.  WOW!  When I type everything I used, it appears that the card would be a hot mess, but I think it is actually pretty clean.

Here’s my card:

All These Parts Working Together

I had the basic card in my head, and knew I would turn to Petal Pallette yet again.  I just love that bird, the sentiments, the label die, all of it.  The rest evolved.

Pool Party is a soft color, and I wanted that to contrast with the black.   The CTS sketch called for a vertical banner on the left, but I wanted something with more movement.  Therefore, I turned to Swirly Birds die set.  I thought I needed more white space so I ran the die through the Big Shot again and used the white negative space on the left border.  I cropped out the Basic Black and Whisper White circles using the Stitched Shapes dies, and also cropped the bird.

When I started to layer everything together, I realized the Pool Party base needed something and that’s when I decided to pull out my Sheet Music background stamp.  I used Pool Party and stamped it off once for a very subtle background.  The bird really needed to stand out, so I Bermuda Bay Stamping Write marker so it would still be aqua, but a deeper shade.  Then I decided that the white circle was just too white and blank.  I pulled out the leaves stamp from Petal Pallatte, used Pool Party stamped off once for another subtle element.  The pieces just need to be put together using dimensionals, Tombow liquid glue, a ribbon, and two Bermuda Bay enamel shapes.

I hope you can see the inspiration of the sketch in my card.   My circle wasn’t cropped out of the banner, but the inspiration was there.

A circle, flower, and a die cut for #tttc041

Tic Tac Toe Challenge No. 041

The #tttc each week offers 9 possible card combinations.  This week, I chose the top horizontal line of circle, flower, and die cut.  I tried combining it with the color challenge from Fab Friday #134 which is Powder Pink, Night of Navy, So Saffron, and Soft Sky.   What I got was a soft and sweet thank you card, even with the Night of Navy paper and ink.  I also substituted Pool Party for the Soft Sky.

Here’s my card:

Here’s the #tttc041 challenge:

The soft and sweet elements

I used Night of Navy for the base of the card, the ink for the sentiment, and Stamping Write Marker for the outline of the Pretty Label Punch.  I am getting better at using the marker to outline, as long as I remember to keep the marker below the punch.  It’s possible to control the outline by angling the thick side of the marker on the outline.

The DSP is from the Whole Lot of Lovely DSP pack.  Some of these sheets are soft and others are bold, but they are all lovely.  Powder Pink flowers on the top, and the substitution of Pool Party on the bottom.

The die cut is from the Stitched Shapes die set.  I love this set, use it often, and many times I use a Stamping Write marker to draw an outline in the ditch of the shapes. The So Saffron circle and mat under the DSP cover that color challenge.

When I got the elements together, I decided that it needed something, so I grabbed my Subtles enamel shapes.  There are 4 Powder Pink enamel dots in the 4 whole flowers on the top.  It just worked out that they surround the die cut circle.  There are 3 Pool Party enamel shapes on the bottom in a triangle.

The sentiment is from the All Things Thanks stamp set.  I had to use the Stamping Write marker to color just the parts of the sentiment that I wanted.  However, I love this font and have colored it in many times to use just the “thank you” portion of the stamp.

Myths and Magic DSP for Fab Friday 133

Myths and Magic DSP is Magical!

I .love.this.bundle.and.DSP.  I have a community service card club at the high school where I teach, and I originally bought this bundle for that club. Then I bought the DSP, and I have many a number of cards using the paper or stamp set.  It’s fabulous, the bundle is from the Occassions catalog, and is only available until the end of the month.  We will find out if the bundle and DSP carries over when the new catalog is released.  Fingers crossed!!

I love playing along with Fab Friday

I have been fortunate and very honored to have been chosen for a Fab Five twice with this challenge.  Fab Friday is a bi-weekly challenge, and they accept more than one submission, so if I change my mind, or come up with another idea, I can always submit it.

Here’s my card for FabFri133:

Here’s the Fab Friday sketch:

Isn’t the DSP fabulous?  The colors, the touches of glitter, the designs, and all the characters are spectacular!  Have I mentioned all the magical color combinations, which create a truly magical impression?

For this card, I used Tranquil Tide and Pool Party to mat the DSP for the base of the card.  The mat of the DSP is covered in tiny Lemon Lime Twist and Tranquil Tide scales.  So cute!  I love the sparkly bubbles on this paper and could kick myself for not ordering the coordinating glitter paper.  All the mermaids on the paper are sparkly as well, and their scales have great definition.  Like I said, I love this whole suite.

The sentiment is from the coordinating Magical Day clear-mount stamp set and is one of two versatile sentiments in the set.  I stamped the sentiment in Fresh Fig to match the focal mermaid on a Whisper White banner.  Instead of matting the banner, I chose to use my Stamping Write Marker to lightly outline the edges of the banner.  This subtle coloring gives the impression of a mat without the bulk or added layer.

The end of SAB is near!

I used a Sale-a-Bration free item for the bow because the banner needed something.  It’s a shimmery Basic Grey ribbon and coordinates perfectly with this DSP.  The other colors in the three ribbon set are Calypso Coral and Bermuda Bay.  If you love this ribbon as much as I do, your time to order is getting shorter by the day.  SAB ends on March 31.

Comments are welcomed and I love hearing from you.
