Traditional Christmas Design Team for Cardz 4 Guyz #259

Welcome to the C4G #259 theme challenge, which is traditional Christmas. For me, that means reds and greens, Christmas trees, and maybe a plaid blanket thrown in for good measure. Therefore, that’s just what I did for my card.

Here’s my card:

Cherry Cobbler, Mossy Meadow, Whisper White and Plaid

The Christmas Means More stamp set, available now in the July – December mini-catalog, has four quotes from traditional Christmas movies. I chose the quote from ELF for the front of this card. So, let’s get started!

  • I used Mossy Meadow cardstock for the base and it measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches. I scored it at 4-1/4 inches to create a landscape tent card.
  • Next, I trimmed the Cherry Cobbler cardstock mat to 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • Then I trimmed the plaid DSP, from the Plaid Tidings 6 x 6 inch DSP stack, to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • I used a 1 inch by 5-1/4 inches strip of Cherry Cobbler DSP for the banner under the sentiment. To accomodate the linen thread wrapped around this strip, I adhered it to the plaid DSP using dimensionals.
  • I stamped the sentiment on Mossy Meadow cardstock using VersaMark so I could add white embossing powder, which I then heat set. After I cropped the sentiment using a square die from the Stitched Shapes set, I adhered it to the card using a double layer of dimensionals.
  • The Christmas trees, stamped in Mossy Meadow on white cardstock, come from the Rooted in Nature stamp set. I cropped them out using the coordinating die set. While I had those supplies handy, I also stamped and cropped another double tree and a single tree stamp for the inside.
  • Time to move on to the inside!

The Inside

Here’s a picture of the inside of the card:

  • I trimmed the white cardstock to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches, as always.
  • The inside sentiment is from the Perfectly Plaid stamp set, and I stamped it in Cherry Cobbler.
  • Finally, I adhered the Christmas trees in the bottom corners using the multipurpose liquid glue.
  • I trimmed another piece of the Cherry Cobbler DSP for the envelope flap. Once I had adhered and trimmed the flap, I’d completed this easy-peasy card/envelope set.

Thank you so much for stopping by today.

I’d love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.

Have a Peachy Day!

Happy Halloween!

This is going to be extremely fast, short, and a tiny, little bit spooky. I’ve been making Halloween cards for my daughter, nieces, nephew, and great-nieces and nephew for a couple of months. However, it all came down to a rush in the end. Now that they are all on their way, with a treat inside, I thought I would share the ones not already posted on my blog.

The 6′ x 6′ Plaid Tidings DSP really helped tremendously with each of these cards and the coordinating envelope flaps.

Here are the remaining cards to be posted:

Using a mask helped make this card so much easier to make.
An Easter Bunny with a Halloween pumpkin??? It works when your 4 year old great-niece is obsessed with the Easter Bunny.
I really love the spider web corner stamp from the Festive Corners stamp set, but this is the only way I could figure out how to use it.
This card truly was a comedy of errors. I had the picture in my head, but really struggled to bring it to life. The little spider down in the corner is to cover just one of the problem areas.

Once in a Blue Moon

It seems fitting that in 2020 we have a Blue Moon, Halloween, and turning the clocks back one hour all at once.

Like I said at the top, short and sweet. I hope this weekend is kind to you. Stay safe, stay well, stay happy.

Thank you so much for stopping by today.

I’d love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.

#GDP255 and 2 More for a BLOG CANDY Giveaway!

The theme for this week’s Global Design Project #255 includes the use of trees or leaves. Even though I’ve used Forever Fern quite a lot lately, I still chose it for this card.

Here’s my card:

Here’s the challenge banner:

I could’ve chosen to use one of the new autumn sets for this card, but I had a picture in my head, and it definitely called for Forever Fern.

Let’s Get Started

  • Picking out the plaid pattern for the bottom of the card needed to be the first thing I did. The colors Cajun Craze, Shaded Spruce, and Basic Gray in this pattern had a huge amount of potential! I trimmed the plaid DSP to 1-3/4 inches by 4-1/8 inches. While I had that DSP out, I trimmed a piece to 2-1/2 inches by 6 inches for the envelope flap.
  • Next, I decided the base of the card needed to pull out the Shaded Spruce in the plaid, I used it for the base. I trimmed it to 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches to create a tent card.
  • The Whisper White layer followed my usual mat size of 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches. I stamped the splotches in Basic Gray three times before reinking. originally, I thought I’d stamp sporadically. However, I got carried away and stamped all over the white cardstock.
  • I decided I needed some sort of separation between the plaid and the white cardstock. Therefore, I used a piece of the Basic Gray DSP trimmed to 1/4 inch by 4-1/8 inches.
  • Additionally, I wanted something to tie all the leaves together. So, I cropped a piece of Smoky Slate using the largest circle from the Stitched Shapes die set. To create the ring, I used the closest fitting circle from the Layered Circles die set.
  • In order to give some height to the focal arrangment of leaves and stems, I cropped a piece of the same Basic Gray pattern using the largest spray of leaves in the die set.

Stamping and Assembling

  • I stamped two leaf sprays in each of the Cajun Craze and Shaded Spruce colors. Next, I stamped the center spray in Basic Gray. Even though I now had six leaf/stem sprays, I achieved the odd number balance with the Smoky Slate cardstock ring.
  • After cropping out the stamped images, I simply played around with different arrangements before adhering anything down. Once I found an arrangment I liked, I took a picture of it, which makes it so much easier to reconstruct the arrangment.
  • I used the multipurpose liquid glue to adhere all the pieces down, starting with the ring of cardstock and working my way forward.
  • Next, I stamped the greeting in Shaded Spruce and cropped it using the Stitched Rectangle die. I placed dimensionals on the back of the sentiment panel to give it some dimension.
  • At this point, I thought I had finished the card. However, it didn’t look finished because it felt unconnected. Ribbon would have been too much. Thankfully, I had some Cajun Craze baker’s twine left from last Thanksgiving. I made a bow using a technique I’d seen on a few of Mary Deatherage’s, with Stamps-n-Lingers, FaceBook lives and her videos. Can’t for the life of me remember what she called it. This is one of the first times I’ve created one of these bows with which I was happy. I attached the bow off-centered and right where the Basic Gray DSP meets the arrangment. Since the tails are long enough to fall over the sentiment, I had connected all the elements together.
  • After I adhered and trimmed the piece of the plaid DSP to the envelope flap, I’d finished this card/envelope set.
