Blackberry Bliss Poppies

As soon as I got the Peaceful Poppies DSP I fell in love. The gorgeous colors include Blackberry Bliss. I’m sad that the DSP is retiring, especially since I loved it so much I ordered another pack. However, the stamp sets and dies are carrying over.

Tone on Tone

As part of the Make My Monday design team, I needed to create a tone on tone card for the current challenge. You can see that card here. I used a sponge brayer to create the Pool Party background. The shading is subtle, but it is darker on the left than on the right. Using the brayer was so much fun and I was so thrilled, I wanted to use it for another card.

Here’s that card:

The Magical Tool – The Sponge Brayer

First, I used a removable tape dispenser to temporarily adhere the white cardstock to my stamping grid paper. To use the sponge brayer, I simply rolled it on the ink pad. Then, I started at the bottom of the cardstock, making sure to start and end my rolls off the cardstock. This helps to keep the ink lines from being on the cardstock since they are on the grid paper. I just kept rolling and rolling until I was happy with the saturated color. The result looks like cardstock on the picture, but in person you can see a very light texture. I just love this! Best part – I can simply wash the sponges and use them again. Once washed, the staining will not transfer over to other ink pads.

In order to keep a tone on tone card, I used Blackberry Bliss, Basic Black, and Whisper White cardstock. I did run the white cardstock through the Big Shot in the Subtle 3D embossing folder. Using the Poppy Moments die set, I cropped the poppies and leaf stem from Blackberry Bliss. I used black for the centers of the poppies, and topped the large one with a white center.

Pulling It Together

I knew I needed to add definition and an anchor for the poppies and sentiment. Therefore, I added a strip of vellum cardstock behind the poppies. As always, adhering vellum is challenging. For this piece, I ran very, very, very light strokes from the fine tip glue pen, then adhered the vellum down. Now, I could say this resulted in a mistake or a happy accident. I choose happy accident when the fine tip glue pen created some texture for the vellum. Yeah, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

The Painted Labels die set provided the sentiment block, on which I stamped the sentiment. I really like these dies because they crop and emboss an outline at the same time.

Originally, I had small black rhinestones on the bottom left corner. My DH told me it needed something standing out down there. So, I changed the rhinestones out for the smallest pearls. My DH was correct, it is better.

Finally, I adhered the card front to a piece of white cardstock, and then on black. I stamped some Blackberry Bliss poppies on the back of the envelope and part of the poppy stems and flowers stamp, which is colored in Blackberry Bliss as well.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.

Please stay safe, healthy, during the reopenings going on around us all. Let’s keep the curve relatively flat.

Have a Peachy Day!

Something Old, Something New, Something Carrying Over, Something Blue for the May Pals Blog Hop!

Hello, welcome to the Pals Blog Hop! This month our theme is “Goodbye to January-June Mini and 2019-2020 Annual Catalogs and Hello to 2020-2021 Annual Catalog” where the Design Team is showcasing their favorites from the retiring catalogs or products in the new catalog! You’ll find the full line-up below to help you “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

The Inspiration and Sunday Stamps 230

A co-worker has been asking me to make cards for all of his needs for the past year or so. In May, 2019, I made a Mother’s Day, anniversary card for his parents, and birthday card for his mom. We were texting on Friday, and I said I could make his mother a birthday card and mail it to him. His mom’s favorite color is blue, so I chose Seaside Spray for this year’s card.

I’d been trying to figure out a card for the Sunday Stamps 230 card challenge and decided this would work. For this card, I would simply create a mirror image of the sketch.

Here’s the sketch challenge banner:

Here’s my card for the Pals Blog Hop, Sunday Stamps, and my colleague’s mother:

I used the new to me (because of a backorder) Poppy Moments die set for something new. Something old is the retiring In Color 6 x 6 DSP. Happily, the poppy dies and sentiments stamps will both carryover. I specifically used the Seaside Spray Metallic Ribbon from the holiday catalog. Demos knew that this beautiful ribbon would be carrying over. However, imagine my surprise to find it in the 2020 – 2021 catalog! I really thought it would show up again in the 2020 holiday catalog. Obviously, something blue is the Seaside Spray.

This Fun Fold is So Much Easier Than It Looks

Once again, I first saw this fun fold on Mary Deatherage’s Saturday night fb live, and you can find the link here. Truly, it is easy. It is simply a notecard attached to an A2 card. The best part is that it will fit in a medium Stampin’ Up! envelope.

I started by cutting and scoring all my paper.

The notecard base is 3 in. x 7 in. and scored at 3.5. For the top mat and inside mats, I cut white cardstock at 2.75 in. x 3.25 inches. Here’s another look at the top of the notecard:

The body of the card is 5.5 inches by 10 inches and scored at 4.25 inches and 8.5 inches. I stepped down a quarter inch for the length and width of the front white cardstock mat, and again for the DSP background. Here’s another look at that part of the card:

The foldover part of the card measures 1.5 inches by 5.5 inches. I stepped down a quarter of an inch for the white mat, making it 1.25 inches by 5.25 inches. The DSP top piece stepped down another quarter inch making it 1.00 inch by 5 inches.

I cut the inside of the card base at 4 inches by 5.25 inches. Then I used the outline die from the Poppy Moments die set in the bottom corner. Here’s another look at that part of the card:

Putting It Together!

After I adhered all the DSP pieces to the card base, I started working from the outside of the notecard. First, I dry fit the poppy and leaves to find the best position, at least for me. Then, I stamped the sentiment on the outside and inside. Next, I stamped the flowers on the inside and colored them with a Stampin’ Write Marker.

That’s when I got to the trickiest part of this card, and a step I forgot the first time I made used this fold. You can see that card here,. It kind of jumps right out that I forgot the ribbon. Ribbon? Tricky? Not really, but since I forgot it the first time, I needed to make sure I included it the second time. I cut about 20 inches of this gorgeous ribbon to start. Then I popped up the white top on dimensionals. Using tear-and-tape, adhered the ribbon to the notcard and then place the white cardstock over it. When you finish, you should have the majority of the length of the ribbon going behind the card so it ties on the left of the notecard.

Since I’d already cut out and stamped the inside white mat, I just had to crop the poppies in the corner. I’ve tried to use this die before as a border and it didn’t work at all, but I’m very pleased with the way it really accents the corner of the card.

After all of this, I thought my final step was going to be adhering the notecard to the flap, for which I used tear-and-tape. Make sure you only adhere the notecard to the flap, or nothing will open, which would be very disappointing.

I Thought I was Done….

I really did think I had completed the card once I finished putting it together. However, when I flipped the notecard back, the cardstock on the card cover looked very bare. When I started this whole process, I wasn’t sure where I was going with it. Therefore, I just kept cropping pieces of Whisper White, Basic Black, and Seaside Spray cardstock along with vellum cardstock. I actually had enough left for another whole card, so I grabbed some of those pieces and put together a large poppy, the long leaves for the top and the short wider leaves for the bottom. The vellum leaves that combination light and open, at least I think so.

Then, I really was done. I stamped and colored half of the border stamp of poppies on the front of my envelope and used adhered a piece of DSP to the envelope flap. Poof! I’d completed another card set. My co-worker is thrilled with the result, so it will be mailed to him pronto.

Tone on Tone for Make My Monday #122

This week’s challenge is to create a tone on tone background. I decided I’d use my brayer and try to create an ombre background. My backordered Poppy Moments dies arrived last week and I just had to use them.

Here’s my card:

Tone on Tone Background

For the first time in a long time, I pulled out my SU! sponge brayer to create the background. While it took some time to get the ink to get the different hues, I think the results warrant the time. It might be difficult to see in the picture, but the bottom part of the card is a deeper Pool party hue than the top. I kept rolling the ink starting at the bottom and then continue rolling my way up the Whisper White cardstock. The color difference is subtle, but definitely noticeable in person.

Poppy Moments Dies

This set had been on backorder, and I’d been checking the inventory status report a few times a week while waiting for them. When I saw that they shipped, I knew I’d be using them as soon as possible! This card seemed like a great place to start creating with the dies.

I first cropped both flowers and the leaves on the top from Pool Party, and then again from vellum cardstock. The leaves on the bottom were just cropped from vellum. I’d used the color combination of Pool Party, Whisper White and Basic Black before, and thought it would be beautiful on this one as well.

First, I very carefully layered the vellum on the cardstock using the fine tip glue pen. After I placed a very fine line of glue around the outside edge of the cardstock flower, I put a thin blob of multipurpose liquid glue in the center. My plan was to hide the glue under the black cardstock layer, and it worked. I layered the two lower leaves by putting another fine line of glue under the black outlines.

Next, I had to figure out a sentiment that would fit in the lower, right hand corner. I chose the sentiment from the Peaceful Moments stamp set, and thought it fit the whole tone of the card. On top of that, it fit very nicely and tucked up under the small poppy. Popping both flowers up on dimensionals helped with the placement of the sentiment block. While I wanted the sentiment block to have some dimension, I couldn’t use dimensionals. Enter the large glue dots. They gave the block some height but not as much as the flowers.

Finishing Up

I used a cropped piece of Whisper White cardstock for the inside panel. I used the same sentiment stamp set for the inside as well. The poppies in the lower corner is actually just a part of the longer poppy field of stamp sets. Using Momento Tuxedo Black ink, I stamped half on the inside panel, and stamped another half on the front of the envelope. I used the Pool Party stamping marker to color both sets of poppies. After adding a strip of 6 x 6 Pool Party DSP to the envelope flap this set was finished.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.

Please stay safe, healthy, during the reopenings going on around us all. It’s important to not go too fast, and it’s much better to be safe than sorry.

Make My Monday # 119

Welcome to my first post as a newbie member of the Make My Monday Design Team. I am thrilled to be joining this talented group of papercrafters!

Challenge # 119 is to create your own background. For some reason, I struggled with creating a background. However, on the positive side, I now have three cards to add to my stash.

Here’s my card:

Poppies and Balmy Blue

I started out thinking that I would use Pool Party, but quickly realized I needed a better choice. Until this card, I would’ve grabbed Seaside Spray because I love the frostiness and beachiness of that blue. However, I grabbed Balmy Blue and decided I would try that shade of blue. WOW! Whisper White, Balmy Blue and Basic Black. Fabulous color combination if I do say so myself.

Once I made my mind up to just go with it, pulling this card together happened relatively easily.

Step by Step

First, I used my embossing buddy to clean the white cardstock to prep it for embossing. Next, I stamped two poppies at a time using the Momento Tuxedo Black ink, Then, I put clear embossing powder on the two wet poppies and repeated until I had my cardstock randomly covered.

I really wanted the embossed poppies to show up nicely. I needed to use the clear powder because the black embossing powder is on backorder, . If I hold the card just so under my OttLite, the embossing does show. I just don’t think the recipient will do that, which is ok because the card is pretty as it is.

After I used my heat tool to set the embossing powder, I used the blotch stamp from the Painted Poppies cling stamp set with Balmy Blue ink. It didn’t matter if the blotches lined up perfectly, at least to me.

The Top, the Layers, and the Finishing Touches

After stamping the poppy on the sentiment circle, I had to find a sentiment that would fit in the space left on the circle. The birthday sentiment on the outside came from the Peaceful Moments cling stamp set. I used the Sending You Thoughts cling stamp set for the inside sentiment. Since I wanted the sentiment to be the focal point on the circle I decided not to color the poppy. The black dimensionals provided the height for the sentiment circle.

The layers of Balmy Blue and Basic Black behind the sentiment were cropped using the layered circles die set.

After I finished the sentiment circle, I grabbed some of the Basic Black satin ribbon and tied a square knot to the right of the sentiment.

Finally, I started putting the card pieces together. I used Balmy Blue for the base, then a bottom mat of Basic Black, followed by a layer of Balmy Blue. Then I adhered the top white cardstock to my layers to finish off the front.

The only thing left was to stamp the inside sentiment and another poppy. After I adhered the panel to the base, I adhered a piece of the Balmy Blue DSP to the envelope flap.

With that, I had finished this card set.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d love to hear what you think, and every comment is greatly appreciated!

Random Poppies for CTS#365

I created this card for this week’s Global Design Project challenge and the Case This Sketch challenge. Even though I missed the deadline for GDP, I will still include the challenge banner in this post.

Here’s my card:

Here are the challenge banners:

Some day, soon I hope, I will figure out how to get these images side-by-side.

Poppy Repeat

I’ve already posted a card with a random poppy pattern which I watercolored and embossed. You can find that post here. I also created a monochromatic card in Balmy Blue and Basic Black, which will be posted live tomorrow in the Make My Monday card challenge DT post. Please come back tomorrow to see that card, which I think is the prettiest out of the three. All three layouts are different even though they use the large poppy stamp.

The first thing I should have done, was cut down my Whisper White top layer to the 4′ x 5.25′ size. Just believe me here, cut it down first, or definitely before you cut the three pieces apart. Don’t ask me how I know.

I just stamped random poppies on the cardstock. Then, I cut the cardstock on my trimmer to get the three pieces. Finally, I stamped the blotches in the three color challenge colors, one of each piece. It really doesn’t matter that the blotches line up perfectly and I purposefully stamped them randomly.

I’ve been itching to use this gorgeous Petal Pink ribbon and have really wanted to try to make a bow with it. I didn’t even think I could create a decent bow since I struggle so much with making them. I have heard that I should use bunny ears to create bows. However, I just don’t get it. I really need a right-handed person to sit across from me so I can learn how to do it. After a few tries, and some rearranging, I couldn’t believe I actually created a satisfactory bow!

I kept thinking birthday for this card. I used the Peaceful Moments cling stamp set to stamp the sentiment. The layered circles die set cropped all three layers. Once they were together, I popped them up on dimensionals. The sentiment circle fit perfectly over the ribbon.

Finishing Touches

Truly, that was it: stamp, cut, stamp, put together. This card is so easy that, if I had all the cardstock layers cut ahead of time, I could put ten of them together in about 30 minutes.

All I needed to do was put all the layers on the base, which is Pool Party, and add a white panel with a sentiment for the inside. I used a piece of the Pool Party 6 x 6 DSP for the envelope flap, and this card/envelope set was done.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d love to hear what you think, and every comment is greatly appreciated!
