Celebrate 2020 with 2 Challenges

#tgifc244 and FMS416

The TGIF Challenge #244 and the Freshly Made Sketches #416 challenges worked together perfectly for my New Year’s card. I combined some retired SU! products with Night of Navy cardstock and ink, silver foil, and the Everything Festive stamp set from the holiday catalog for this card. The TGIF challenge gave me the ideas for the foil, and Freshly Made Sketches provided the layout. Score!

Here’s my card:

Retired Items

The specialty DSP on the front cover is from the 2018 SAB catalog. I used the last sheet on the right, and here’s an image of this retired paper:

147193 - Stampin' Up! Sale-a-Bration Choice Springtime-Foils Specialty Designer Series Paper FREE with $50 order #dostamping #springtimefoils #saleabration #stampinup shop at: http://dostamping.stampinup.net

I can almost hear you thinking that none of these sheets have Night of Navy background. The gorgeous thing about these DSP sheets is that the background will take color easily. Therefore, I used a brayer and coated the DSP with Night of Navy ink and then wiped it off for a flawless finish.

A little hint – I tried doing the same thing on the foil side of the First Frost paper. However, it didn’t work well at all.

While I don’t have the Celebrate You thinlits any more. Before I sold them almost a year ago, I did have the forethought to crop “Celebrate” out of silver foil, so I had a few sentiments ready to use. In order to have the sentiment stand out from the foil DSP, I backed it with vellum cardstock, which is current. Hiding the adhesive was pretty easy once I used the Tombow liquid adhesive on the sentiment. After attaching the sentiment to the vellum, I placed glue behind the sentiment to adhere the vellum to the DSP. I needed to get the corners adhered, so I used the retired metallic stars.

Both Challenges are Still Open.

If you decide to play along with one or both of the challenges, I’d love to see what you create! Have fun, use pretty foils, follow the fresh and clean sketch, and celebrate 2020!

As always,

Thank you so very much for stopping by my blog today. I appreciate your the time you take to read, and comment, on my blog.

Feels Like Frost for Sunday Stamps 216

Feels Like Frost DSP is Spectacular!

When I first saw this DSP in the holiday catalog, I thought it was beautiful, so I put it in my first pre-order.  When the UPS truck delivered my order, this DSP was the first thing I opened.  I don’t have enough superlative words to describe this DSP, other than to say it’s one of my most favorite DSP in the 4+ years I have been a demonstrator.  Hands down, one of the top 5 in my 4+ years.

I’ve already created a card for a Color Throwdown challenge and you can see that card here.  This card for Sunday Stamps Challenge is just the second of many Christmas cards for this year.

Here’s the Sunday Stamps Challenge banner:

Here’s the card I created:

The combination of the sketch and the Feels Like Frost DSP is simply stunning, at least I think so.

Clean, Simple, and Beautiful

The DSP does all the work here.  Using the colors from the paper, Night of Navy and Seaside Spray, I was able to create a double-matted card.  I had to do some measuring for the DSP in order to get the right width for the coordinating Seaside Spray metallic ribbon, which is gorgeous as well.  Once I finished the paper and ribbon part, I stamped the sentiment from the retired Watercolor Christmas stamp set.  I then used clear embossing powder on the sentiment, cropped both ovals from the Stitched Shapes die set and layered them.  Stamping dimensionals gave me the pop and height I wanted.

At first, I thought I’d finished this card.  Then I realized I needed some more sparkle, so I grabbed my clear Wink of Stella.  I very carefully used the Wink of Stella on both ovals between the stitched ditch and the outer border.  Last night I thought I’d finished the card, and even took the photos for this blog post. Tonight I decided I needed to add some of the snowflake sequins to the sentiment ovals.  Once I’d finished that, I decided that, since I want a clean and simple card, I’d finished.

As always, adding coordinating DSP to the envelope flap completed this card set.

Easy peasy.

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today.  A big thanks, in advance, for taking the time to leave a comment.

Sweet Varied Vases for the Milestone ctd500

500 Challenges!  WOW!

Color Throwdown is celebrating their 500 (!!) challenge this week.  500. weekly. challenges.  A huge accomplishment therefore, many, many congrats are in order.

The color combo for this week got it’s inspiration from a fireworks display:  navy blue, blush, gold, and white.  I used Night of Navy, Blushing Bride, and gold accents in the form of ribbon, thread, and Wink of Stella.  I’m not really a gold person and making this card convinced me that I need to at least have more gold embellishments.

Here’s my sweet card:

Here’s the ctd500 challenge link:

Varied Vases is such a sweet stamp set,  and the coordinating punch makes it very easy to use individual pieces.   Million dollar sales demo, Mary Fish ( in whose third level I happily belong), designed the set, including her signature tulip.  I used Night of Navy and white Tutti Frutti  DSP, also retired, to punch out the vases.  Night of Navy,  Blushing Bride, and Whisper White paper, inks or Stamping Write markers were the only colors used, which I think adds to the sweetness.

My Need for Gold is Evident

I really thought I at least had gold faceted gems.  Wrong.  Therefore, I have had to resort to just touches of gold.  The ribbon used across the separation between the Night of Navy and Blushing Bride cardstock for the base of the card.  The gold thread, also retired, forms a sweet little square knot on the two smaller vases.  Wink of Stella, also retired, highlights the stems and flower centers.

Clear Wink of Stella usually is difficult to see in pictures, but the gold one photographs much easier.  Here’s a close-up of the Wink of Stella and gold thread touches:

True Gentleman for FMS339

True Gentleman

My DH was with me when I picked up my freshly spiral bound catalog, complete with plastic front and back covers.  Since I was driving, he started looking through the catalog and commented while looking for sets to create masculine cards.   He challenged me to make a completely masculine card.  The retired True Gentleman DSP fit the bill.  I love this paper!

Freshly Made Sketches 339

Sometime this past week, which was exam week and the last week of school, I vaguely remembered seeing this sketch.  However, I had to go back and find the challenge, which was the inspiration for this card.

Here’s my card:

OCD moment:  Is it just me, or does everyone have to have even numbers for the dimensions of the enlarged photo?

Here’s the challenge sketch:

What I love about the Freshly Made Sketches challenge is the clean and simple sketch posted each week.  I enjoy creating cards with lots of white space, and, once again, this challenge delivers loads of inspiration.

It’s all about the DSP and the colors!

I loved this DSP as soon as it came out in the Holiday catalog this past year.  The combination of the Tranquil Tide, Dapper Denim, Night of Navy, and Very Vanilla is classic.  For this card, I used the bold plaid print combined with the subtle stripes with accents of Very Vanilla.  The angled cuts have a thin border of Night of Navy.  The card itself is Very Vanilla, and the base is Tranquil Tide.

I used the Truly Tailored companion stamp set for the simple greeting.  Originally, this is where I stopped, took the post picture and realized the card needed a bit of something.  When I pulled out my Night of Navy enamel shapes and found I only had hearts (not for a masculine card), two stars and one circle,  Never fear, the Rule of Threes could still be implemented using the stars and circle.  After I added the enamel shapes, I squinted at my card to check for balance, and decided I was done.

A circle, flower, and a die cut for #tttc041

Tic Tac Toe Challenge No. 041

The #tttc each week offers 9 possible card combinations.  This week, I chose the top horizontal line of circle, flower, and die cut.  I tried combining it with the color challenge from Fab Friday #134 which is Powder Pink, Night of Navy, So Saffron, and Soft Sky.   What I got was a soft and sweet thank you card, even with the Night of Navy paper and ink.  I also substituted Pool Party for the Soft Sky.

Here’s my card:

Here’s the #tttc041 challenge:

The soft and sweet elements

I used Night of Navy for the base of the card, the ink for the sentiment, and Stamping Write Marker for the outline of the Pretty Label Punch.  I am getting better at using the marker to outline, as long as I remember to keep the marker below the punch.  It’s possible to control the outline by angling the thick side of the marker on the outline.

The DSP is from the Whole Lot of Lovely DSP pack.  Some of these sheets are soft and others are bold, but they are all lovely.  Powder Pink flowers on the top, and the substitution of Pool Party on the bottom.

The die cut is from the Stitched Shapes die set.  I love this set, use it often, and many times I use a Stamping Write marker to draw an outline in the ditch of the shapes. The So Saffron circle and mat under the DSP cover that color challenge.

When I got the elements together, I decided that it needed something, so I grabbed my Subtles enamel shapes.  There are 4 Powder Pink enamel dots in the 4 whole flowers on the top.  It just worked out that they surround the die cut circle.  There are 3 Pool Party enamel shapes on the bottom in a triangle.

The sentiment is from the All Things Thanks stamp set.  I had to use the Stamping Write marker to color just the parts of the sentiment that I wanted.  However, I love this font and have colored it in many times to use just the “thank you” portion of the stamp.
