InKing Blog Hop, September Morn, and #GDP156

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s September Blog Hop! This year’s Blog Hop themes are inspired by popular songs – this month’s song is “September Morn,” a Neil Diamond classic from the late ’70’s. As you can guess, our Blog Hop today is filled with projects that are inspired by the beauty of Autumn – September is when the air becomes crisp and the leaves start to fall. We are excited to share our creations with you today! After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

Here’s my card and coordinating envelope.

First,

I love Neil Diamond.  I’ve seen him in concert and it was great.  So, I am happy that my first blog post, since we packed up our house two months ago, features one of his songs for the theme. 

Second,

Thank heavens the GDP#156 challenge was a real inspiration for this card and challenge.   I’d been struggling with a fall card, partially because I wanted to organize my new “blue room” (craft room) before I really ordered everything I wanted from the holiday catalog.  The other reason for my struggle is that I live in Central Florida and it’s difficult to think about fall cards when it is still 95-100 degrees each day.  This isn’t a complaint, it’s a fact of Florida weather.  

Third,

Many thanks to my upline, Brian King, for offering DSP paper shares from the holiday catalog.  Saved me this month!  On to my card and my interpretation of the GDP#156 challenge!  

Here’s the challenge card:

When I recieved my happy mail, in the form of my paper share, I found that I really, really like my share paper samples!  I had to pick a sentiment from non-holiday stamps which I already owned.  Therefore, I picked one from the Rooted in Nature stamp set.  It even feels like fall to me, but maybe it’s just me. 

Once I had the sentiment, I was able to pick the DSP I wanted to use, and both patterns are from the Country Lane DSP.  I just love the cotton bolls, and Crushed Curry is definitely a fall color.  TheEarly Espresso background pattern is also from Country Lane DSP, and really makes the cotton bolls pop.  The wood look really gives dimension to the background without overwhelming the card. 

I added the mats of Crushed Curry and Early Espresso and thought I needed a little something, something.  Enter the Crumb Cake Nature’s Twine for the wrapping around the card and then the bow.  Since I am bow challenged, I actually wrapped the twine and tied a knot.  I gathered one side of the twine together so it would look authentic, and tied another knot.  Then, I tied a bow and glued it down onto the knots.

I Gotta Feeling Blog Hop

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s May Blog Hop! We are grinning from ear-to-ear with excitement over all the amazing, new products from Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Annual Catalog – and you’re going to love what we are sharing today. Today’s Blog Hop is filled with projects that offer sneak peeks at new products from the upcoming catalog, while also using some of the current products. What fun!  After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

There are a number of gorgeous DSP packs in the new 2018 – 2019 catalog, from which I’ve already pre-ordered a number of sets. There are still a number of DSP options as well as fabulous suites that I MUST have.  My card this month is using just one of the beautiful patterns from the Tranquil Textures  DSP pack.  The colors are a mixture of current and new colors with Fresh Fig, Tranquil Tide, Balmy Blue, Mint Macaron, Soft Sea Foam, Whisper White, Night of Navy, and Crumb Cake.  For my card, I focused on the Tranquil Tide and Fresh Fig, which I really wanted to emphasize.  

Here’s my card:

Gorgeous Colors, Gorgeous DSP

Isn’t this color combination and DSP pattern fabulous?  LOVE!  There is a thin mat of Tranquil Tide right under the DSP, which is layered on Fresh Fig.  I’d trimmed my papers incorrectly, but am pretty please with the final mat of Whisper White.  I pulled the Fresh Fig for the Nature’s Twine (NEW!), and the larger Stitched Shapes circle, as well as the ink for the stamp.  I think the darker cardstock colors really pull out the colors in the DSP.

Fonts and dies!

There is such a variety of fonts and stamps available in the new catalog, and this sentiment is from the new Love What You Do photopolymer stamp set.  I can’t wait to place another order (pre-order??) to get more of these new fonts!  

I did use the Stitched Shapes circle dies.  I used the Tranquil Tide Stamping Write marker to outline the “stitch” marks in the ditch.  I’ve been doing that quite frequently, mainly because I like the accented stitches.
