Dry or Wet Embossing for Cardz 4 Guyz #356

Welcome to the newest Cardz 4 Guyz challenge #356! Juile is hosting this two-week challenge and she chose Wet or Dry Embossing for the theme. When you finish here, please visit the challenge site to see what the rest of the very talented design team members created. Then, don’t forget to upload your creations to our gallery. We look forward to seeing your creations there!

Here’s my dry & wet embossed easel fold card:

Since this is a fun fold, I’ll also be entering it in the Creative Creases Gallery.

Measurements:

  • The Cajun Craze base measures 11 by 4-1/4, scored at 2-3/4 and 5-1/2 inches
  • AFTER you dry emboss another piece of Cajun Craze, trim it to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches
    • HINT: If you trim a piece of cardstock to your desired size before embossing it, especially with a 3D folder, you will wind up with a too small piece of cardstock
  • The Thoughtful Journeys DSP (designer series paper) cropped with a deckled rectangles die measures
  • The white cardstock mat, also cropped with a deckled rectangles die measures
  • I used a scrap of Cajun Craze cardstock for the sentiment on the front
  • For the inside, crop a piece of white cardstock using the largest deckled rectangle die
  • Trim a coordinating piece of DSP to 1/2 by 5-1/2 inches for the easel stop, then crop the sides using the largest deckled rectangle die
  • You will also need a 2-1/2 by 6 inch coordinating DSP for the envelope flap
  • Punch a 1-inch circle of contrasting DSP for the envelope seal, and run it through the XYRON create-a-sticker

Stamping, Outlining, & Assembly:

  • Unless otherwise noted, I used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the pieces of this card together
  • After cropping the two white cardstock pieces, I outlined them with a Calypso Coral marker
  • I did the same to the DSP piece using a Cajun Craze marker
  • Adhere the DSP to the white cardstock, then adhere the layers to the left side of the dry embossed Cajun Craze cardstock
  • Add liquid glue to the bottom half of the front of the card only
  • Center the embossed piece of cardstock on the base and adhere it to the bottom half of the front of the card.
    • HINT: if you use liquid glue on the whole front base of the card you won’t be able to make it an easel card
  • After wiping down the scrap piece of Cajun Craze with your embossing buddy, stamp the sentiment using VersaMark ink
  • Cover the sentiment using white embossing powder and heat set
  • Crop the sentiment using a small deckled rectangle die
  • Trim a piece of the white diagonal ribbon so that you have two pieces about 1-1/2 inches long and adhere them to the back of the sentiment panel
  • Add dimensionals to the back of the sentiment panel and adhere to the DSP
  • Stamp the inside sentiment on the cropped white cardstock about halfway down to allow for the easel stop
  • Adhere the white cardstock to the inside of the card
  • Add dimensionals to the strip of DSP for the easel stop and adhere it to the white cardstock
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set

Add Some Texture for Cardz 4 Guyz #293

Welcome to a new challenge at Cardz 4 Guyz!  For challenge # 293, Melanie has chosen the theme of adding texture.  I added texture to almost every piece of paper on this card.  Fun!  When you finish here, I hope you will check out the cards from the rest of the design team members.  Each one is unique and awesome!

Here’s my textured card:

What I Used and What I Did:

This card took almost no time to create, even with all the dry embossing.  Therefore, the measurements and directions will be short and sweet.

  • The Misty Moonlight base measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
  • I used the retired World of Good DSP (designer series paper) for the front of the card. I trimmed a piece of the Mossy Meadow DSP to 6 by 6 inches. Then, I ran it through my cut and emboss machine using the Subtles embossing folder. There are some things I won’t give up simply because they retired – including masculine DSP and the Subtles embossing folder. Next, I trimmed the DSP to 41/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches. If I had trimmed the DSP to size before embossing, the DSP might have been too small for what I wanted.
  • I also used this Mossy Meadow DSP pattern for the envelope flap. As when using embossing folders, I ran this piece through the cut and emboss machine using the bark 3D embossing folder. Then, I trimmed it to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches.
  • Then, I ran a piece of the Misty Moonlight DSP compass rose pattern through the cut and emboss machine using the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder. After it was embossed, I trimmed three pieces to 1/2 inch by 5 inches.
  • I made this card for friends who are moving from Florida to Georgia and I wanted the top DSP to include something about the move. So, I picked the map DSP and cropped it using a stitched rectangle die. I made sure that at least a small part of Florida (the Keys) and part of Georgia would show behind the sentiment tag. Since this DSP already had enough details I chose not to emboss it..
  • I decided to add a piece of burlap ribbon under the map DSP to add yet another texture.

Finishing Up:

  • The very appropriate sentiment came from the Timeless Tropical cling stamp set. I stamped it in Momento Tuxedo Black ink on a piece of Very Vanilla Cardstock. The sentiment mat is cut from Misty Moonlight. I used the Banners Pick a Punch for each piece of cardstock and then adhered them together.
  • I used dimensionals under the map DSP to accommodate the burlap ribbon. There are also dimensionals under the sentiment tag. I used my favorite multipurpose liquid adhesive for everything else.
  • After trimming the DSP on the envelope flap, and making the envelope seal, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

Simple Slimline Card for C4G # 291

Welcome to the Cardz 4 Guyz challenge # 291.  I am hosting this challenge theme, and I chose slimline cards.  When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge blog to see what all the other design team members created.  Each one is fabulous!

Here’s my slimline card:

Measurements and Such:

  • The Misty Moonlight base measures 8-1/2 inches by 7 inches, scored at 3-1/2 inches to form a tent card.
  • I used a piece of the Beauty of the Earth DSP (designer series paper) and trimmed it to 8-1/4 inches by 3-1/4 inches.
  • The white panel for the inside of the card measures 3-1/3 inches by 8-1/4 inches.
  • For the sentiment, I used the Biggest Wish stamp set. First, I stamped “HAPPY” in Cinnamon Cider. Then, I stamped “birthday” using Misty Moonlight.
  • The sentiment rectangle, and the two mats behind it, were all cropped using the rectangle stitched dies.
  • I used the TomBow multipurpose glue, which is my favorite adhesive, for all the paper elements, with the exception of the Cinnamon Cider mat for the sentiment. The Misty Moonlight cardstock is adhered directly to the DSP.
  • Then, I tied a square knot on a piece of the Misty Moonlight ribbon that I’d wrapped around the DSP. This ribbon goes over the Misty Moonlight sentiment mat.
  • Finally, I popped the sentiment block up on dimensionals and placed it over the ribbon.
  • At this point, I thought I had finished. However, when I came back to the card later, I decided that I needed to add something else. So, I used three of the 2020 – 2022 In Color enamel Cinnamon Cider dots on the top, left-hand corner of the DSP.
  • Ta-da! My simple slimline was complete!

Thank you very much for stopping by my blog today!

Fall/Autumn Colors for Cardz 4 Guyz Challenge # 256

I live in Central Florida, about halfway between Orlando and Daytona Beach. I haven’t seen a real fall/autumn season since my youngest sister was in college. She had a swim meet in North Carolina and my parents and middle sister and I went to it. That was quite a while ago.

My daughter recently moved to northern California and will have a real autumn this year. If it wasn’t for one big problem (that which I don’t want to name tonight), I would go out there for a long weekend to see the leaves. As it is, I will just have to enjoy creating Thanksgiving cards for now.

Here’s my card for the #256 challenge:

The stamp sets I used were the Rooted in Nature and Autumn Greetings.

If you think there might be a difference between this card and the one on the Design Team page for C4G, you are correct. I knew something was off with the first card and couldn’t figure out what. As I was typing the measurements below, I realized I should have used Very Vanilla for the background on the front of the card. I’ll show you how I fixed that accident below.

Measurements

  • The card base is Cajun Craze trimmed to 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches.
  • I trimmed a piece of Crushed Curry to 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches for the mat.
  • Next, I trimmed two pieces of the speckled DSP. The one on the front of the card measures 1-7/8 inches by 5 inches. I trimmed another piece for the envelope flap to 2-1/2 inches by 6 inches.
  • The Very Vanilla piece on the top background measures 3-1/8 inches by 5 inches. Originally, I had a piece of Whisper White for the background. Since I didn’t want to recreate the card, I had to figure out how to fix my mistake without starting over. Here’s a picture showing how I did that:
TA-DA! Problem solved. After cropping out the tree, I ran the vanilla cardstock through the Big Shot in the Subtle 3D embossing folder.
  • I also used Very Vanilla on the inside and that piece measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • The acorn and two leaves next to the sentiment were punched out of the Gilded Autumn DSP. The Autumn Punch Pack of mini punches makes this a very simple task. Best of all – no fussy cutting! I just LOVE when punches and/or dies work on the DSP perfectly!
  • In order to have a border between the top and the bottom, and without getting girly, I used linen thread wrapped around the speckled DSP three times and tied it in a square knot.
  • The Stamp-aratus allowed me to be able to repeatedly stamp the greeting on the speckled DSP until I achieved the depth of color I wanted.

The Tree

Instead of using ink pads to color the tree, I used Stamping Write Markers and my trusty Stamp-aratus. I could not have done it without that tool.

  • First, I used Crumb Cake and Early Espresso to color the trunk of the tree on the stamp, then stamped it.
  • I used the Crushed Curry marker to color the whole canopy of the tree for the first stamping.
  • Next, I used the thin end of the Early Espresso marker and traced in the branched in the canopy. Using the yellow first really made it easier to see the branches.
  • Then I used Pumpkin Pie andCajun Craze markers and randomly colored on the stamp, then pressed it down. I repeated that step and wound up with the colors you see on the front of the card. It reminds me of autumn trees from my childhood. The only thing missing is the big pile of raked leaves under the tree, just waiting for us to jump in it and then start raking again.
  • I put dimensionals under the tree so it stands off the background. The Crushed Curry bottom mat peeks through under the tree.

The Inside

  • I used another sentiment from Autumn Greetings for the inside of the card.
  • Since I didn’t want just a plain piece of cardstock, I used the speckle stamp from Forever Fern. I stamped it using Crumb Cake, and each time I inked, I stamped it three times. This really gives dimension to the speckles.

Finishing Up

Finally, I adhered the speckled DSP to the envelope flap and trimmed it down. With that, I’d finished this card/envelope set.

By the time I finished typing all the directions, I’d decided that I needed to try this card again. I really think I can create a much better version, but know I can’t do that tonight.

Thank you so much for stopping by today.

I’d love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.

Have a Peachy Day!

Masculine Birthday Card for a (New to Me) Challenge

When I went to post my card to the DT blog for Make My Monday Challenge, themed Christmas in September, I found out about a new-to-me challenge, Cardz 4 Guyz. So many times, we all struggle with masculine cards, but I think this card will make it easier since there’s so much inspiration there. The current theme for this biweekly challenge #53 is monotone, chosen by Helen.

Here’s my card:

A Monotone Feel

I thought that the Misty Midnight and Early Espresso colors would work together to create an almost monotone card. Therefore, I chose the 2020 – 2022 In Color 6 x 6 DSP and the In Good Taste DSP, both of which can be found in the annual catalog. I added a piece of the burlap jute ribbon, topped by a piece of the Misty Moonlight ribbon.

Measurements

  • I used Misty Moonlight for the base of the card and it measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/2 inches.
  • Next, I trimmed a piece of the In Good Taste DSP to 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches for the front of the card. While I had the DSP out, I also trimmed a piece to 2-1/2 inches by 6 inches for the envelope flap.
  • I chose the wood grain Misty Moonlight DSP thinking the wood grain would go well with the burlap background DSP. This piece of DSP was trimmed to 3-3/4 inches by 5-7/8 inches.
  • The inside of the card needed a piece of Whisper White cardstock trimmed to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. I haven’t added a sentiment on the inside yet. I will when I determine the recipient.
  • Next, I used the Rooted in Nature stamp set to stamp the tree in Early Espresso on scrap white cardstock. I stamped the sentiment at the same time on another scrap of white cardstock. Then, I cropped the tree using the coordinating Rooted in Nature die. I punched the sentiment using the Tailored Tag punch.
  • Since I had the Early Espresso ink out, I used the tall pine tree stamp on the front, bottom, right-hand corner of the envelope.

Assembly and Finishing Up

  • I used the multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the In Good Taste DSP to the base of the card.
  • The burlap ribbon doesn’t go all the way around the Misty Moonlight DSP because of the thickness it would add. Instead, I cut a piece of it to 4-1/4 inches to wrap it around the edges. I used glue dots to adhere the ends of the ribbon behind the DSP. In hindsight, it probably would have been better to use the tear and tape adhesive because of the thickness of the burlap.
  • I did wrap a piece of the Misty Moonlight ribbon all the way around and tied it in a square knot on the front.
  • Then, using multipurpose glue, I adhered the DSP to the front of the card.
  • I added dimensionals under the tree and the sentiment. I centered the tree over the ribbon combination. The sentiment tag didn’t quite fit under the ribbon combo. Therefore, I carefully centered the top of the punch right underneath the Misty Moonlight square knot. Then, I added a glue dot to keep the square knot in place.
  • After adhering and trimming the DSP to the envelope flap I’d completed this card/envelope coordinated set.

From the beginning, the picture I saw in my head was clean and simple. This allowed me to create a relatively easy-peasy card. The layout can be used for all kinds of occassions with all kinds of products.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d also love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.
