Beautiful Gallery DSP for the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #664

Welcome to the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #664

I used the Beautiful Gallery DSP (designer series paper) for this challenge, and am so pleased with the color combination of Basic Beige, Early Espresso, Fresh Freescia, and Old Olive!

Please check out the challenges page for the creations by the other very talented design team members. When you’ve created your own card for our challenge, please don’t forget to upload them to our gallery. We’d love for you to play along.

Here’s my card:

And the inside:

Here’s the challenge sketch:

Measurements:

  • The Early Espresso base measures 8-1/2 by 5-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches
  • After embossing a piece of Fresh Freesia cardstock using the 3D Plaid embossing folder, I trimmed it to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches
  • Next, I used a protractor to trace and fussy cut the circle parts of the Beautiful Gallery 6 x 6 inch DSP (designer series paper) and the Old Olive mat, as shown below (different DSP and cardstock, same process):

What I Did:

  • Unless otherwise noted, I used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere pieces together
  • I used the Fresh Freesia and Old Olive blends combos to color the flowers and the leaves
  • After fussy cutting the two layers, I adhered them as shown
  • Then, I adhered the fussy cut layers to the plaid embossed layer, then adhered the layers to the base of the card
  • I stamped the birthday sentiment for the front in Mossy Meadow ink and fussy cut that as well
    • HINT: After stamping the sentiment, I used the stamp to outline the shape I needed to cut
  • After cropping the foliage from Old Olive cardstock using a die from Nature’s Symphony die set, I adhered it to the front of the card
  • I used Fresh Freesia ribbon to make a loopy loop, which I adhered with glue dots, then added a glue dot to adhere it to the front of the card
  • Next, I added dimensionals to the underside of the birthday sentiment and adhered it over the ribbon
  • I stamped the sentiment for the inside using Mossy Meadow ink on Basic Beige cardstock and adhered it to the base
  • Finally, I added some Old Olive dots to the front of the card

With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set

The Loopy Loop Bow:

I was able to watch Mary Deatherage’s, from Stamps -n- Lingers, Perfectly Pears tutorial. In that video, she showed her loopy-loop bow. That’s what I used for the front of my card. I’m bow-challenged and this technique allows me to relatively easily add ribbon without adding the bulk of a tied bow. If you’ve never seen her videos, you owe it to yourself to watch them. I think she’s the Queen of the Collage. Gorgeous cards!!

A Wedding Latch Fold Card for The Creative Crafters #93 & Creative Creases # 108

Welcome to my one card, two challenges post. As always, the theme for The Creative Crafters challenge # 93 is always Anything Goes. This month I have a latch fold wedding card I created for my niece’s wedding. The colors she chose were black and white with pops of silver and gold. It was such a beautiful wedding!

Here’s my card:

It’s just a given that fun fold cards also post to the Creative Creases Challenge. Debbie Mageed at Secret Stamper coordinates both this hop and the challenge. Hopefully, you will be inspired to upload your own fun fold project to the challenge!

I have another latch fold card for you, but this time it’s for a birthday! You can see some of my other latch fold cards here, here, here, and here.

My Basic Template:

One of the things I absolutely love about this card is that it is so easy to change up the front of the card, as you can tell by my other posts.

Here’s the basic template that I use and revise as needed:

  • I trimmed a piece of retired silver and white specialty DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap
  • Then I punched a 1-inch circle from a leftover piece of black embossed cardstock and ran it through the XYRON create-a-sticker for the envelope seal
  • There is a pretty significant amount of bulk to this card, but it still fit in a medium white SU! envelope
  • If this card needed to be mailed, I would put it in a small padded manila envelope for safe travels and add extra postage

Putting the Card Together:

  • The absolute star of this card is the Sunflowers 3D embossing folder!
  • It’s really hard to see in the pictures, but I stamped VersaMark ink on the raised side of the embossing folder
  • After I wiped a 4-1/4 by 5-1/2 piece of white cardstock down with my embossing buddy, I ran it through my Cut & Emboss machine
  • Then, I added clear embossing powder to the ink and heat set it with my heat tool
  • Then I trimmed down the cardstock to fit the measurements of the template
  • I used two 4-1/4 by 5-1/2 inch pieces of black cardstock and ran them each through the embossing folder in the Cut & Emboss machine
  • Using a fairly wet white craft ink pad, I lightly swiped multiple layers of white ink onto the raised sunflowers
    • I did let each layer of ink dry before I added more ink
    • It was necessary to add more ink to the ink pad to get the depth of white that I wanted
  • The sentiment on the front of the card comes from the Something Fancy stamp set, and I used white embossing powder on the back cardstock
  • After heat embossing and cropping the black sentiment cardstock, I decided I needed to add texture to the panel so I very carefully embossed the top and bottom using the Sunflower embossing folder
  • I used silver foil for mats on this card mainly because the black ribbon has silver flecks running through it
  • I’ve added information for the loopy loop bow below
  • Finally, I added some pearlized dots to the corners of the sentiment panel
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated wedding card, envelope, and envelope seal set

Heat-embossing HINTS:

  • One of the most important steps when using embossing powder is to wipe down the cardstock using your embossing buddy, which is available in the Embossing Additions Tool kit
  • Another important thing to remember is to use the sticky end of your Take Your Pick tool to remove stray flecks of embossing powder before heat embossing
  • Make sure to let your embossed sentiments dry completely before trying to crop the sentiments, otherwise you might smear your beautiful embossed sentiment
  • While my heat tool is warming up (especially helpful with metallic powders) I will warm the underside of the cardstock to help keep the warping to a minimum

Non-traditional Colors for the Sparkles Christmas Challenge #177

Welcome to the October, 2025 edition of the Sparkles Christmas Challenge # 177! Thank you very much for all the participants for our September challenge! Our host for this month’s challenge, Helen, chose Non-traditional Colors for the theme. When you get finished here, I hope you will visit the challenge site to view the creations from the very talented members of our design team. After you’ve created your own themed card, please don’t forget to upload it to our gallery.

Here’s my gold, Pretty Peacock, and Lost Lagoon card:

As always with a fun fold card, I will be adding this to the Creative Creases Challenge where the theme is always Anything Goes with a Fun Fold.

Yet another latch fold card:

As you probably already know, I love the latch fold card! Once you’ve created a couple of these cards, you can adjust the front to your heart’s content! You can see a couple of my other latch fold cards here, and here, and here. I’m also going to be posting another latch fold card on Friday as a guest designer for the Creative Creases Challenge. Please come back for that one as well.

Here’s the basic template I use for the latch fold card:

Heat-embossing HINTS:

  • One of the most important steps when using embossing powder is to wipe down the cardstock using your embossing buddy, which is available in the Embossing Additions Tool kit

This post is short, but hopefully sweet and helpful. As Robert Frost said in his poem Stopping By the Woods on a Snowy Evening, “ I have miles to go before I sleep. That poem, and especially that line, has lived rent-free in my brain since seventh grade English class.

Coneflower Celebrations for AHSC # 644 & Creative Creases # 106

Welcome to Team B’s turn for the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #644! Starting the creative process with a sketch invites individual takes on the sketch, and this one is no different. This challenge is a weekly event, and we’d all love for you to play along with the sketches and then post your creations to the challenge gallery.

Here’s my Coneflower Celebrations card:

This is a pretty straightforward z-fold card. If you can score and trim paper, this fun fold is for you!

As always with a fun fold card, I will be adding this to the Creative Creases Challenge where the theme is always Anything Goes with a Fun Fold.

Measurements:

  • The Gorgeous Grape base measures 8-1/2 by 5-1/2 inches, scored at 2-1/8 and 4-1/4 inches
  • Trim a piece of Darling Duckling 6 x 6 inch DSP (designer series paper) to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches for the card front
  • You need another piece of Darling Duckling DSP trimmed to 2-1/2 by 6 inches for the envelope flap, which needs to be adhered and trimmed
  • Punch a 1-inch circle from the Fresh Freesia DSP for the envelope seal, and run it through the XYRON create-a-sticker
  • Trim a piece of Fresh Freesia 6 x 6 inch DSP to 201/2 by 5-3/8 inches for the panel on the front of the card
  • Trim a piece of white cardstock to 4-1/8 by 5-2/8 inches for the inside of the card
  • You will also need another piece of white cardstock for the stem, leaves, center of the flower, and the sentiment
  • I already had the butterfly cropped for another project and decided to use it here.

Putting the Card Together:

  • I stamped everything using Momento Tuxedo Black ink
  • Unless otherwise noted, I used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere the pieces together
  • Stamp the flower on Fresh Freesia cardstock and color using the multiple layers of the Fresh Freesia blends combo
  • Stamp the stem and leaves, then color using the Old Olive blends combo
  • After stamping the center of the flower, I colored it using Daffodil Delight and Darling Duckling blends combos
  • The inside and outside sentiments come from the Coneflower Celebrations stamp set
  • Use the coordinating Coneflower Celebration dies to crop the flower, center, stem, and leaves
  • Crop the outside sentiment using a banner from the Stylish Shapes die set
  • Adhere the center to the top of the flower
  • Add dimensionals to the back of all the flower pieces and the senteiment banner
  • Adhere the Fresh Freesia DSP to the Darling Duckling DSP
  • Add glue to just the left back side of the Darling Duckling DSP, then adhere to the Gorgeous Grape base
  • Adhere the white inside cardstock to the base of the card
  • Adhere the butterfly near the sentiment
  • Position the coneflower pieces and adhere using the dimensionals
  • Add a loopy loop bow from Darling Duckling ribbon using mini-glue dots
  • Add the sentiment on top of the loopy loop bow
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal

The Loopy Loop Bow:

I was able to watch Mary Deatherage’s, from Stamps -n- Lingers, Perfectly Pears tutorial. In that video, she showed her loopy-loop bow. That’s what I used for the front of my card. I’m bow-challenged and this technique allows me to relatively easily add ribbon without adding the bulk of a tied bow. If you’ve never seen her videos, you owe it to yourself to watch them. Make My Monday #258 is Going Snowy in August with Creative Creases Challenge

Welcome to the newest Make My Monday bi-weekly challenge #258. Our host, Heather, chose Snow in August for the theme. When you finish here, please visit the challenge site to see what the rest of the very talented design team members created. Then, don’t forget to upload your creations to our gallery. We look forward to seeing your creations there!

Here’s my hidden flap fun fold card:

I’ve used this hidden flap card so many times because it lends itself perfectly to 6 x 6 inch DSP, in this case from Thoughtful Journey. You can see some of those cards here, here, and here.

As always with a fun fold card, I will be adding this to the Creative Creases Challenge where the theme is always Anything Goes with a Fun Fold.

Measurements:

I’ve created a template for this card, and all the measurements are on the template. It’s so easy to just get it out of my fun fold mini-binder of templates and create without having to find all the measurements.

Here’s the template:

  • Trim a piece of 6 x 6 inch DSP to 5-1/4 inches by 6 inches
  • Trim the DSP in half so you have 2 pieces measuring 3 inches by 5-1/4 inches
  • You need two mats for the DSP, each measuring 3-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches
  • The very inside piece of cardstock measures 3 by 5-3/8 inches
  • I had a piece of the embossed Misty Moonlight cardstock and trimmed it to 5-1/4 by 1-7/8 inches
  • The mat for the embossed cardstock measures 5-3/8 by 2 inches
  • I used a scrap of white cardstock for the sentiment and cropped it using one of the square Stylish Shapes dies
  • I trimmed a coordinating piece of DSP to 6 by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap
  • Then, I punched a 1-inch circle from Misty Moonlight DSP and ran it through my XYRON create-a-sticker for the envelope seal

Putting it Together:

  • Add dimensionals to the base as shown in the template to adhere the front flap
  • The only other place I used dimensionals was under the sentiment because the rest of the card is already bulky
  • This card will fit into a medium Stampin’ Up! envelope for mailing
  • Use multipurpose liquid glue to adhere all the other elements of the card
  • Since the only snow on the card was the embossed cardstock layer, I stamped some snowflakes from the One of a Kind stamp set using VersaMark ink and clear embossing powder on the winter DSP pieces
  • I stamped a larger snowflake on the inside white cardstock next to the sentiment using VersaMark ink, clear embossing powder, and heat set it with my heat tool
  • I stamped the sentiments using Misty Moonlight ink
  • I added a loopy-loop bow, from Mary Deatherage, under the front sentiment, for which I will add the directions below
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set
