Fab Friday 128

Fab Friday #128 is a color challenge:  Lemon Lime Twist, Berry Burst, and Emerald Green.  I love Fab Friday challenges for a few reasons, one of which is that it’s a 2 week challenge.  For this one, I need to think about what to do, and how to incorporate the 3 colors.

I kind of knew right away that the Emerald Green was going to be the base, then decided I’d go back to one of my previous checkerboard (inspired by Mary Fish @ Stampin’Pretty.com).  DSP makes this card easier, and I decided on the In Color Fresh Florals DSP.  Have to say, I wasn’t originally a fan of this paper but it’s growing on me.   I used the Lemon Lime Twist and Berry Burst for the 1.25 inch squares, lined everything up in a dry run on the layers Whisper White and Emerald Envy, then used my liquid Tombow and craft tweezers to get the squares placed.  That’s when I decided I really needed some black to calm the colors down, so enter the Basic Black cropped scalloped circle, the sentiment from All Things Thanks stamped in black (with the other part of the sentiment masked off), added a bow, and I was done.

Originally, the OCD part of me wasn’t a fan of the color variations in the patterns of a single sheet of the DSP,  but I’m getting better about it.  It really seems to just work with this layout.

You’ve still got a week to play around with this challenge, so what will you do with it?

Fab Friday’s color challenge this week was to use Melon Mambo, Flirty Flamingo, and Lemon Lime Twist.  Not the first 3 colors I would put together but that’s what makes it a challenge, right?  Melon Mambo and Lemon Lime Twist – that works.  Flirty Flamingo and Lemon Lime Twist – that works as well.  Put the three together, and I decided I also needed to include Basic Black to tone things down a little and to make the die cuts pop on the Flirty Flamingo DSP.

I love this In Color DSP!  I am still working on some retired colors of this style and, for some strange and unknown reason, I ordered 2 stacks of the 2016-2018 In Color stack.   I need to start really using more of this paper!

I also used the Sunshine Wishes thinlit set.  I was sitting staring at the Melon Mambo base, the layer of Basic Black, the Flirty Flamingo DSP and a piece of the Lemon Lime Twist cardstock.  Literally just staring at it, and then it hit me to use this die set.  That’s when I decided I also needed to layer the Lemon Lime Twist on the black for the flower, sentiment, and butterfly (yes, I looked up sample cards on Pinterest to make sure I wasn’t the only one who saw a butterfly).  All three elements are popped up with mini-dimensionals that I cut in half.  (Hint:  use the SU paper piercing tool to pick up and place down all those cut up minis.  Believe me, it’s easier!)

I added the Flirty Flamingo ribbon, layered all my pieces together and then I sat and stared at the card I created.  I was very happy that the picture I had in my head actually came out better than I thought, at least to me.  This was one of those cards that, when finished, I thought “Blast!  I did that!”

Tic Tac Toe Challenge #009

I really enjoy the #TTTC weekly challenges because of the flexibility of available options.  This week, I decided to follow the top row of thank you, sequins, and all things round.   Thank you and all things round was pretty easy to conquer.  Sequins?  Not so much.  I’m just not a fan of sequins, I don’t get how to attach them and they just don’t work in my comfort zone sense of order.  However, I met the challenge and used 3.  Yipee!

Here’s my card:

Turns out I used quite a bit of Tranquil Tide this weekend.  I didn’t realize just how much until I started posting pictures on FB.  The DSP is the Naturally Eclectic (LOVE the patterns and colors).  I punched out the circles and just flipped the paper over then popped up each on a mini-dimensional.  The inner circle is Lemon Lime Twist, with a Tranquil Tide stamped sentiment.  This font is one of my very favorites!  Mat circle in Tranquil Tide sitting on a Whisper White doilie. I thought the card needed a little bit of something and just threaded Whisper White bakers twine under the smallest circle and tied a neat little bow.  Added the 3 sequins and ta-dah!  I was done.
