I really enjoy pairing a sketch challenge with a color challenge. But, I have to say that my final card is nothing like what I thought I would create.
Here’s my card:
Here are the two challenge banners:
Bermuda Bay, Basic Black, and Whisper White
Since Color Throwdown already picked the three colors, I just had to chose a shade of turquoise. The color combination of Bermuda Bay, Basic Black, and Whisper White always seemed like a classic color combo, so my colors were set.
Like I said, the resulting card doesn’t resemble the card I started to create. However, I like the clean and simple outcome. I used Bermuda Bay for the base of the card. The bottom layer of the card front is Basic Black, with a layer of Bermuda Bay on top of that. Whisper White cardstock provides a very clean top layer. I used white Stampin’ Powder to emboss the sentiment from the Sending You Thoughts cling stamp set.
I created the Bermuda Bay center circle using a circle cropped from an uh-oh envelope and the negative over the white cardstock. Using my sponge brayer and the Bermuda Bay ink pad, I started inking the circle. I kept going around and around in a circular motion until I had a shaded circle I liked. While you can’t see it because of the sentiment banner, the center of the circle is lighter than the outside. The black scalloped border comes from a cropped inner circle and scalloped outer circle using the layering circles die set. The card I originally set out to create contained this center circle and scalloped frame.
I Wasn’t Going to do It, But I Did…
The Celebrate Sunflowers bundle came in handy for this card as well, as much as I thought I need to do something without using it. For this card, I only used the two leaves dies. I cropped three of the double leaf stem from vellum and three from Bermuda Bay. Next, I arranged them in a way that I thought would work and adhered them all down using the multipurpose liquid glue.
Using the triple banner punch, I punched out chevron ends of the black and DSP strips for the sentiment banner. If you don’t have this punch, you can always snip the chevrons. I’m just happier if I can get symmetrical ends.
The banner for the GDP challenge includes some sort of layer on the top and bottom of this horizontal card. I hope that the layers of black and Bermuda Bay kind of sort of fullfill that part of the sketch. The whole time I worked on this card, I kept trying different borders and nothing seemed to work. I finally decided that I would go with clean and simple and just move on.
After I cut a white inside layer for the card, I stamped “with a great big wish for happiness” also from Sending You Thoughts.
The only thing left was to trim down a piece of the Bermuda Bay 6 x 6 DSP for the envelope flap and this card/envelope coordinating set was finished.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.

The Paper Players challenge for this week is a tic-tac-toe challenge. Three elements in a row, meaning eight options for a card. I picked the top row across of ribbon, rhinestones, and patterned paper.
Here’s my card:
Here’s the challenge banner:
Parisian Blossoms DSP
I purchased a DSP share from my upline in February, which means that I recieved 6 x 12 sheets of all the DSP packs available in the mini-catalog. Thankfully, this design was in that share. When I pulled it out, I thought that this DSP for this challenge seems made for each other. Patterned paper – check. Part of my attration to this paper is the amount of open space in the Pool Party background. Once again, the Stampin” Up! designers have hit it out of the park with this DSP.
The ribbon is the Petal Pink Organdy Striped Ribbon, and the impact of the bow on the paper is striking, in my humble opinion. While this bow isn’t as pretty as the one I created earlier in the week, it still has a positive impact on the card. Ribbon – check.
Here’s a close-up of a section of the card:
I wanted to make sure that I provided an adequate picture of the rhinestone, as required by the challenge. There are eleven rhinestones on this card, with one on the center of each flower. They add bling to the card without being obtrusive. Rhinestones – check.
All three requirements for the top row – check.
Second Option for This Card
While I didn’t try to fulfill a second line on the tic-tac-toe board, I actually did just that. The card also satisfies the left-hand column of ribbon, die-cut, and pink.
The center of the flowers and the ribbon are pink. Two requirements – done.
For the sentiment circle, I actually used three die cuts from the Layering Circles die set. I really wanted more of the popped up die cut circle showing, especially since I have the circle lined up with the rest of the DSP. It’s not important that I did that, it just helps to keep me from having an issue with the sense of order with the card.
I used a very thin border of Basic Black cropped using a scalloped die from the same die set. Since I only wanted a touch of the black border, this worked out the way I wanted it. The black mini-dimensionals worked perfectly to add dimension to the sentiment circle.
I used a Pool Party base for the card. On the inside of the card, I adhered a piece of Whisper White and stamped the sentiment “Life is better with a friend like you”. I also put a half-inch strip of the DSP on the bottom of the inside.
After that, all I needed to do was to add a piece of the DSP to the envelope flap, and this card set was done. Truly, an easy-peasy card. From the time that I chose the DSP to the final cutting of the DSP on the envelope flap, the card took less than thirty minutes. If I wanted to mass produce these, I am quite certain that I could get 10 of these done in less than forty-five minutes. That is, if the ribbon cooperates so I would have pretty bows.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d love to hear what you think, and every comment is greatly appreciated!
Please stay safe, healthy, and isolated as much as possible. We were on Spring Break two weeks ago, and should have gone back this past Monday. Instead, we transitioned to virtual learning and our “kids” started with that format on Monday. Florida starts a stay-at-home order so we will be home for at least a month. I have one daughter, but many hundreds of “kids” and I miss this year’s kids greatly.
Have a Peachy Day!

The poppies DSP, available in the current mini-cataog, is simply stunning. The colors are rich or soft, but always vibrant and beautiful. For today’s card, I chose the DSP with the soft Pool Party background. No matter the pattern with which you choose to work, Basic Black provides a grounding neutral color.
FMS423
I’d been thinking about what to do for this challenge for a few days. While driving home from work Friday evening, the whole card came together in my head.
Here’s my card:
Here’s the challenge banner:
The first thing I did while creating the card was to run the white cardstock through the Big Shot using the Subtle 3D embossing folder. Then, I trimmed the front down to 4-1/8 by 5-3/8. Trimming down cardstock before running it through the Big Shot for a deep embossing might cause a smaller piece than you want.
The shadows on the inside circle of DSP hints at the popped up front cover. There are so many dimensions on the backside of the front in an effort to keep it from caving in when I worked on the front.
I knew I wanted a black border around the circle, so I used the largest scalloped layering circle die. To crop out the inside of the scalloped frame, I used another of the circle dies. It required some carfeul placement, but I was able to get the frame even all the way around.
Choosing the DSP for the banners required some trial and error with different patterns from the Poppies DSP. Finally, I decided to use the Pool Party Subtles 6 x 6 DSP. The two strips needed something bold to make them stand out, so I used a strip of Basic Black. It’s a sharp contrast, but the black frame, strip, and sentiment allows the eye to travel down the card.
Finishing Touches
This wonderful two part sentiment is from the Sending You Thoughts stamp set, which is free with a qualifying order through Sale-a-Bration. Yes, Free. The inside of the card says “you’d be better already”. After stamping the front sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black ink, I cropped it using the Stitched Rectangle dies. I outlined the sentiment block using the brush end of the black Stamping Write marker. Then I used the Pool Party Stamping Write marker to outline the stitches in the ditch.
With that, I only had to stamp the front of the envelope, then adhere DSP to the envelope flap. Another card and coordinating envelope set was complete.
As always,
Thank you so very much for stopping by my blog today. I appreciate your the time you take to read, and comment, on my blog.

Each product in the Sailing Home suite works together to create stunning nautical cards for unisex cards. I used just a few pieces of the dies, two pieces of DSP, the Crumb Cake and Night of Navy baker’s twine, Night of Navy and Crumb Cake cardstock, some ink, and a Sailing Home trinket for the FabFri169 challenge. This clean and simple card came together very quickly, and would be easily replicated for mass production.
Here’s the challenge banner from Fab Friday:
This simple sketch lends itself to a multitude of interpretations. Here’s the card I created:
A Simple Process
Night of Navy cardstock provides the base, with the first pattern of DSP for the background. I used the Layering Circle die set to crop the compass from another piece of DSP. I especially like the size of the DSP compasses, which really worked for this sketch challenge.
Crumb Cake cardstock provided the base of the lighthouse. I stamped it with Night of Navy ink and cropped using the lighthouse die. I also used Night of Navy ink for the sentiment. This sentiment fits perfectly in the banner from Smooth Sailing dies. In order to add some depth to the sentiment banner, I outlined it using an Early Espressso marker. I still thought the sentiment needed additional dimension to stand out, so I used a Crumb Cake marker to color in the stitches in the ditch.
After adhering the DSP compass where I wanted it, I wrapped the baker’s twine around the base of the card three times and tied it in a square knot. Then I pulled a small length of the nylon thread which allowed me to attach the trinket to the square knot in the baker’s twine. The lighthouse and sentiment are popped up on dimensionals, as is the base to accomodate the baker’s twine.
Once again, I finished by decorating the envelope by stamping a lighthouse on the front left, and added more of the compass DSP on the flap.

These two challenges are two of my “favorites”, at least this week. The clean, fresh FMS sketch seemed to pair perfectly with ctd this week to create a cute little thank you card.
The challenge banners follow:
I chose to use the newly retired Bella and Friends stamp set, which I just realized was actually retired when the new catalog launched. Sadness.
Here’s my card:
Keeping it Clean and Simple
I needed all the white space on this card, but didn’t want it to just be plain white. Therefore, I used the Subtle TIEF, which quickly becamse my favorite and most used embossing folder. I get the best of both worlds: white space and a little, subtle texture.
My choice for the orange on this card is inspired by the Painted Seasons DSP using Grapefruit Grove. I’ve only recently opened the package of DSP and love the colors and most of the patterns, especially this simple repeating pattern.
Following the FMS layout and the ctd colors, I layered the DSP on a piece of Basic Gray. I also used Basic Gray for all the stamping, and for coloring in the bone, which seemed to fade right into Bella so I outlined it in Basic Black. While I thought this plan would work, I quickly found out the outline jumped off the card, and not in a good way. Therefore, I colored over the black and the gray with Smoky Slate, which really toned the bone down.
Putting the Card Together
The layering circle die set provided the perfect sizes of circle for Bella, and the scalloped mat peeking out from under her. Blueberry Bushel cardstock provided all the mats: card base, Bella’s circle, and the sentiment mat. I cropped both of the sentiment pieces using the Rectangular Stitched layering die set (a must have!). I also colored Bella’s collar using Blueberry Bushel. Originally, the heart from the stamp was colored using Grapefruit Grove, but I later decided to cover the heart with a single piece of bling from the metallic exposy shapes.
That’s it. Finished. A fresh, clean, card using a great color combination. All is well. Life is good.
Thanks for stopping by today! I know your days are busy, and I appreciate your time.
