When I first saw the Honey Bee cling stamp set and dies, which are retiring, and the coordinating Sale-a-Bration DSP (Designer Series Paper), Golden Honey, I knew I must have it! I even earned a second set of the DSP papers knowing I would put everything to very good use!
How did I know this? Because the school’s colors where I teach are Black and Gold, and the mascot is a hornet. Perfection! This is one of the retiring bundles which I will keep long after they have retired.
Hornets for a Sick Student
As if virtual learning isn’t enough of a change, one of my “kids” has been seriously ill during this time. I created this card tolet her know that I am thinking about her and I wish her a speedy recovery.
Here’s my card:
I didn’t want to cover up any of the DSP with a sentiment. However, I wanted to use a beehive, so I decided to combine the two elements. Using a gold Wink of Stella pen to outline the hive created a very subtle barrier between the hive and the white DSP.
I already had the large and small bees in my stash for this set. At first, I thought that I would use a strip of coordinating DSP for the border between the stripes and bees. After I used dimensionals to pop all the elements up, I realized that I had four elements on the card. My sense of balance kept telling me I needed something else.
Enter the Bow Easy
In order to appease my out of balance feeling, I grabbed the black shimmer ribbon and used my Bow-Easy to create a small bow. There are times I can make a pretty decent bow, and there are times I truly can not. This card was a can not make a bow card.
I’ve had the Bow-Easy for a few years, but am finally getting the hang of it. Mary Deatherage with Stamps-n-Lingers, used it on a card for her Saturday night live fb a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been practicing. If you are left-handed, this tool is pretty tricky. I really have to think about what I am doing because the directions and Mary’s demo are both right-handed. When I created this bow, I was very thankful to be alone in my “blue room” aka craft room. Anyone listening would’ve thought that I had someone else in here because I was talking up a storm.
Finishing Up
The base of my card is Basic Black folded to a traditional A2 card size. I added a piece of white cardstock to the inside of the card, shown below:
Since I want to have more than enough room to write a note, I place the sentiment towards the top.
Next, I had to figure out what to do about my name stamp and the SU! copyright statement because I knew ink wasn’t going to show on the black. I came up with a pretty good idea, at least I think so, and you can see it below:
This stamp is just one of the ones I have gotten from Bossy Joscie at Joscie.com. I love the font she uses for my name and a girl just has to have different stamps for different cards.
After I added some black and gold striped DSP to the envelope flap, this coordinating set was complete.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.
Please stay safe, healthy, and isolated as much as possible. I miss my high school kids and the relationships we’ve formed. My heart breaks for my seniors. But, by working together and following the CDC guidelines, we can all help to flatten the curve.

Again, thank you for stopping by my blog today! I appreciate your time.
I knew I wanted to use the Golden Honey Specialty DSP (FREE with a $50 purchase!) for this challenge. The first time I created a card for this challenge it definitely didn’t turn out clean. I like it, as did my husband, but it’s not clean.
The second card follows the sketch, is clean, and I still used the Golden Honey Specialty DSP. Did I already say this gorgeous paper is FREE with a $50 purchase?
Here’s my card:
Here’s the challenge banner:
Diagonal from DSP
Let me start by saying I love math. Love.it. That being said, it should have been much easier to create the diagonal DSP piece. When I finally wound up with a diagonal with which I was satisfied, I found that I was just a very tiny smidge off on the top, right corner. At that point, I had two choices: start over and try again or fix the piece I had. Of course, I chose fix the piece I had, and did so using the Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker. After I outlined the diagonal DSP piece using the marker, I glued the piece down using my fave, TomBow multipurpose liquid adhesive. I just needed to use the bullet end of the marker to color the smidges of white in the corner. Easy peasy, and definitely easier than starting over.
While trying to keep a definitely clean card, I didn’t even use the Subtle 3d embossing folder for the background. The sentiment banner consists of a layer of the Golden Honey DSP, although you can’t really see the pattern and gold foil. I cropped both of those pieces using the Banner Triple punch. The sentiment is from the Honey Bee stamp set and fits perfectly on the white banner.
When I stamped the sentiment, I stamped the beehive as well. I did stamp it using my Stamp-a-ratus to ensure a dark enough hive. The Detailed Bees die set made it easy to crop the beehive and the bees, which are on the DSP. I had the option of stamping then cropping the bees, but I chose the easy way to go by cropping the DSP.
Putting It All Together
In order to achieve dimension on the card, I used the mini-black dimensionals on the bees and the beehive. When I dry-fit the beehive on the banner, I realized I could place it so the gold foil shows through on under the entrance to the beehive.
One of the bees actually covers a tiny smudge of black ink. Happy accident. I chose not to pop up the sentiment so only the beehive and bees would hover over the card.
Finally, I stamped three bees on the front of the envelope and added a piece of DSP on the envelope flap.
I keep looking at the card wondering if I have enough to make it interesting. Then I start thinking “clean and simple” over and over. I need to just leave it alone.
As always,

Paper Craft Crew challenges are always interesting and inspiring. This week’s is no different. Since I absolutely LOVE the Golden Honey DSP I just ordered my second FREE pack with a qualifying order. For this challenge, I once again turned to that happy DSP and the Honey Bee bundle.
Here’s the challenge banner:
Here’s the card I created:
The Short Version
I tried to follow the sketch as much as possible for this card. The placement of the gold foil honeycombs and the beehive very closely match the sketch.
The sentiment strip on the challenge contained just a strip, but I added the two bees on the end. A honeycomb and a beehive need bees, right? The DSP for the beehive is from the DSP pack. I thought it needed a little bling added, so I used my clear Wink of Stella on the white strips. While Wink of Stella doesn’t show up well in pictures, I promise it’s there. The placement of the sentiment strip was completely based on the sketch.
I pulled out some of my last remaining retired black dots and placed them around my collage. I used a very liberal amount of dimensionals when adhering everything down. In the case of the bees on the end of the sentiment strip, I actually used a double stack of mini-dimensionals.
Multiple Dry-fitting Attempts are a Good Thing
Attaching the beehive took just a bit of planning. I wanted the height of the beehive to be consistent. Therefore, I placed a number of mini-dimensionals inside the empty honeycomb cut outs. Then I carefully placed some on the top of the back of the beehive. After some dry-fitting trials, I felt pretty sure I had everything where I needed.
While I was dry-fitting, I decided that just the Whisper White cardstock needed to have some texture. I turned to my favorite embossing folder: the Subtle 3D embossing folder. I love the hints of texture this folder gives. It has gained #1 choice out of all my folders.
At that point, I thought I had finished. I set the card up for a picture, and realized I’d left a too big of gaping white space at the bottom right of the card. If I used the little bees, I’d have to put two more on the card to keep the odd number going. I finally thought that one of the big bees stamped and cropped would work, so that’s what I did. The card feels more balanced, at least to me.
With that, I was done. No coordinating envelope this time because I ran out of them yesterday. What?!? I couldn’t find a single one, and usually I have a stash on hand. So, I quickly ordered some last night, along with enough product to get the FREE Golden Honey DSP. $50 order = FREE Sale-a-Bration items.
As always,
Thank you so very much for stopping by my blog today. I appreciate your the time you take to read, and comment, on my blog. I have work bright and early in the morning, and I still need to finish my lesson plans.
I’ve recently discovered the Sunday Stamps Challenge, and have been enjoying playing with it. This week’s sketch provided an opportunity for me to use the Golden Honey Specialty DSP.
Here’s the challenge banner:
Here’s the card I created:
Bermuda Bay and Golden Honey
For this challenge, I again chose to use the floral black and white DSP pattern. The first card I created used So Saffron for the accent color and you can see that card here. This DSP can be earned FREE with a qualifying purchase during Sale-a-Bration. Yes, FREE!
This time, I chose to use Bermuda Bay for the coordinating color, which would create a much bolder statement than So Saffron. This color combination has always been beautiful, and the DSP just enhances that beauty. I tried coloring each of the flowers with the Bermuda Bay Blends combo, but it was not working out. Therefore, I used the Stamping Marker instead. I colored each flower on the DSP, the stamped ones for the focal circle, and the two stamped flowers on the front of the envelope.
The Brights DSP provided the color for the three banners. I thought the script pattern would be the most subtle pattern on the floral DSP. When I tried to dry-fit the banners, I decided that I needed to create an outline without adding more bulk. Therefore, I used my Basic Black Stamping marker to outline each of the banners. These outlines created just enough of a separation to make the banners stand out.
In addition, I needed the focal circle to stand out, so I outlined that as well. Again, it’s just a subtle way to make the Stitched Shapes circle stand out, as did the dimensionals that pop it up.
The challenge sketch had some twine on the right-hand side of the card. I’d already earned the Metallic Baker’s Twine FREE with my qualifying purchase. Yes, FREE! Happily, I use this Bermuda Bay twine with Bermuda Bay metallic thread. The metallic thread adds just a hint of bling, which is so pretty.
Putting It Together
My favorite adhesive, the TomBow Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive, allowed me to cleanly attached the DSP to the black mat and to the Bermuda Bay card base. I also adhered the stamped and colored flowers using the TomBow.
The focal circle and the sentiment banner are popped up on dimensionals. I really like the depth these dimensionals create.
After I had everything in place, I thought I was done. I kept staring at the card trying to figure out why I thought something was missing. I left the card, and my blue (read: crafting) room for a few hours. When I came back to the card, I realized what I missed: pearls! There are four pearls in the cneter of the flowers. Since I needed to use an odd number of pearls, I decided to place one at the bottom of the sentiment banner.

Each week, FMS crowns a new “Queen of Clean” winner. Sometimes, it’s easy to create a clean card. Sometimes it’s not. My card for FMS417 was somewhere in the middle.
Here’s the challenge sketch:
The sketch is very definitely clean, but I really, really wanted to use some of the Golden Honey DSP. Quite frankly, I adore this DSP and will be ordering another pack with my next qualifying order since it’s FREE during Sale-a-Bration! Yes, FREE I tell you!
Here’s my card:
What I Did
I needed to pick a piece of this (FREE with qualifying order) DSP that looks light and airy. This flower pattern fit the bill. The flower DSP gave me the inspiration for the focal image: the vase and flower sprays. The Honey Bee bundle makes it so easy to stamp and crop these flowers.
So Saffron’s soft pastel color coordinated beautifully with the fresh and clean challenge sketch. I didn’t color any of the flowers on the background piece of DSP. For these flowers, I wound up using the Stamping Write marker as my coloring tool of choice. I tried using the blends combo, and they just didn’t work for me. The resulting color on the flowers seemed too deep for the card, so I went with the marker. I left the stems and leaves black so I would only have three colors on the card, again looking for a clean card.
The Subtles DSP in this random dot pattern allows the vase to be playful and airy. Finally, I decided to use the smallest square die from the Stitched Shapes die set.
This happy and versatile sentiment fit beautifully inside the thinnest die from the Stitched Rectangle die set. I knew I needed something to tie the vase and sentiment together while also grounding both. I chose the Flax Ribbon and simply wrapped it around the card, adhering it in the back with double-sided tape.
This sentiment is so versation that it can be used for birthday, congratulations, supportive, or here for you cards.
Putting It Together
Using the flax ribbon meant I needed to do something to the sentiment block to make it stand out as a separate element. Therefore, I outlined it with the brush end of my Stamping Write So saffron marker.
After putting all these elements together, I originally thought I would be done with the card. I was wrong. I kept squinting at it (meaning I owe my upline, Brian King, another nickel) and decided to find a very, very subtle embellishment. Enter the Pearl Basic Jewels which I easily colored using the Stamping Blends. I used the So Saffron dark blend, and achieved the look I wanted: three tiny circle of just-there color for the centers of three flowers.
Then all I needed to do was the envelope. I stamped two of the flower sprays on the front, bottom, left corner and which I colored.
I cut a piece of the flower DSP pattern and decided I needed to color every flower. Coloring in those flowers really gives the DSP a different look. I can almost see a card with the colored flowers taking shape in my mind.
