Spring Colors for MMM # 196 and Creative Creases

Welcome to the newest Make My Monday two-week challenge.  It’s my turn to host, and I chose spring colors as the theme.   The theme’s only requirement is that you use spring colors in your project.  Anything else goes!  When you finish here, I hope you will visit the blog site to see the inspiring projects from the rest of the design team.

Here’s my spring colors envelope flap fun fold card:

I’ve seen so many of these online, but for some strange and unknown reason, didn’t save them for the measurements. Therefore I had to figure out what would work for my card.

Since it is a fun fold, that means I get to submit it to the Creative Creases challenge! This challenge is my go-too challenge because the only requirement is that the card be a fun fold of more than one fold.

Here’s the Creative Creases Challenge banner:

Measurements:

  • The Shaded Spruce base measures 8-1/2 by 5-1/2 inches, scored by 4-1/4 inches.
  • I used the largest Scalloped Contour die in white cardstock for the front.
  • Then, I trimmed a piece of white cardstock to 5-1/2 by 4 inches for the inside panel.
  • The Regency Park DSP (designer series paper) started off as a 5-1/2 by 3-7/8 inches.
  • Score the DSP at 1-1/2 inches.
  • After putting a tick mark at the top center, trim the diagonals from the center down to each 1-1/2 inch fold.
  • HINT: I found it’s easier to have the envelope flap open and close using a steeper diagonal. The longer the envelope flap DSP, the more difficult it will be to open and close the card.
  • Next, I trimmed a piece of the DSP to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap. I also punched a 1-inch circle for the envelope seal out of coordinating DSP.
  • The Balmy Blue DSP measures 3-3/8 by 4-5/8 inches so it fits inside the scalloped frame.
  • I cropped a black cardstock circle using the largest Stylish Shapes circle die.

Stamping and Assembly:

  • First, I added the envelope flap DSP piece to the back of the card base.
  • Then, I stamped the Hand-Penned Petals outline stamp on a scrap of white cardstock using Momento Tuxedo Black ink.
  • Next, I used Balmy Blue, Petal Pink, and Mango Melody to stamp the interior of the flowers.
  • I used Shaded Spruce for the leaves.
  • Following the flowers on the DSP, I colored the pink and mango centers using my Sweet Sorbet marker. Each center is actually just a bunch of dots.
  • Next, I used my Mango Melody marker to color a bunch of dots in the center of the Balmy Blue flower.
  • Then, I used a regular white gel pen to add lines to the flowers and leaves to mimic the designs in the DSP.
  • Using the coordinating die set, crop the floral image.
  • After outlining the image with my Mango Melody marker, I used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere it to the black circle. The colors just pop off the black background.
  • I used the embossing buddy on the Balmy Blue DSP then stamped the sentiment using VersaMark ink.
  • Cover the sentiment with black embossing powder and heat set with your heat tool.
  • Adhere the blue DSP to the white scalloped frame using liquid glue.
  • I used the same floral image in Mango Melody ink for the inside white cardstock panel.
  • Then, I stamped another sentiment from the Hand-Penned Petals stamp set in Momento Tuxedo black.
  • Finally, I figured out where I needed to place dimensionals on the back of the black cardstock circle. The right side needs to stay open to allow the flap to slip under the circle. I added dimensionals at 12 o’clock, 6 o’clock, and 9 o’clock on the black of the circle.
  • Finally, after figuring out how far in the envelope flap would reach, I added a dimensional in the center of the circle.
  • With that, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

Non-Stamping Kits!

These kits are fabulous because you don’t even need an acrylic block!

My very favorite kit is now available!  If you don’t know what to get for your mother for Mother’s Day, or just a gift for yourself, these card organizer kits are FABULOUS!

I have such a hard time shopping for my mom and my aunt for holidays, birthdays, etc.  So, for this past Christmas, I got two of these card organizer kits, and put them together.  I also included other cards from card kits and some I had created in bulk to split between the two gifts.  All total, they received a completed organizer and more than 25 cards for all different occassions.  I was so proud to give each one of them this beautiful combination of cards and the love that went into each part of them.

Take a look at just a few of these other non-stamping kits:

Birthday Wishes for MMM #185

Welcome to the newest two-week Make My Monday challenge, #185.  Our host for this challenge, Mary V., chose birthday wishes for the theme.  When you finish here, I hope you will visit the challenge site to see what the rest of the design team members created.  After being inspired by the variety of projects, I would love to see your creation in our gallery!

My inspiration came from being tagged on a facebook post originally created by ??  I’ve spent 30 minutes searching for it and can’t find the post.  If it looks familiar to you, or know who the initial poster was, please, please let me know so I can update the post.  Her set of cards were stunning and I thought I could CASe her cards.

Here’s just three of the twelve cards I quickly and easily created after watching the video:

Measurements:

  • These cards were all created in a single layer. The base for each card measures 5-1/2 by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
  • The white cardstock for the front, after trimming, measures 4-1/8 by 5-3/8 inches.
  • The last measurement is for the inside white cardstock panel, which measures my usual 4 by 5-1/4 inches.
  • Next, I trimmed a coordinating piece of 6 x 6 inch DSP (designer series paper) to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for each envelope. The envelope seals were punched using a different color from the 6 x 6 inch DSP as well.

What I Did:

I figured since every picture equals one thousand words, I’d use pictures instead of words for parts of this card.

First:

Second:

Third:

  • I used the Hand-penned Petals for the flowers and leaves.
  • The Hand-Penned Petals stamp set contains two sets of two-stamp flowers, so I didn’t even have to color the flowers. Score! I simply stamped the outlines in Momento Tuxedo Black. Then, I used the filler stamps and my chosen ink for the flowers and leaves themselves. Easy-peasy.
  • The sentiments come from the Flowing Flowers stamp set, but just about any sentiments will work for these cards.
  • The blotches, splotches, and grain patterned stamps come from the Gorgeous Leaves stamp set.
  • Since everything is one layer, I only used multipurpose liquid glue to adhere all the pieces together.
  • Finally, I added basic pearl jewels or matte black jewels to the centers of the flowers.
  • With that, I’d finished twelve cards in one night.

Why I Made Sets of 4 Cards:

My mom and my aunt aren’t getting around as easily as they used to do..  Christmas presents for them isn’t easy either, because they say they really don’t need anything.  However, this year, Stampin’ Up! has released a new product that’s perfect for each of them for Christmas!

Here’s what inspired me to start creating multiple sets of cards:

I’ve already ordered two of these kits, and am patiently (maybe not that patiently) awaiting their arrival!

Hand-Penned Spring Flowers for Cardz 4 Galz #169 and the As You See It #270 Challenge.

Welcome to the Cardz 4 Galz #169 challenge!  For this challenge, Caz chose the theme of Spring Flowers for Mother’s Day in the UK.  Mother’s Day in the U.S. isn’t until the third Sunday in May, so I went with spring flowers for Easter.  I have used so much of the Hand-Penned DSP and bundle lately, so I am adding another one to the collection.

Here’s my spring flowers card:

I’ve had this DSP (designer series paper) for almost a year, and I’m just now really enjoying using it very often. Since Misty Moonlight is retiring with the new 2022-2023 catalog, this paper will be retiring as well.

Here’s the As You See It challenge banner:

Measurements:

  • I started with a Misty Moonlight base. I really, really love this color and am going to be so sad to see it go! The base measures 8-1/2 inches by 5-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
  • The DSP background measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches. I also trimmed a piece of the DSP to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.
  • I cropped the Pale Papaya In-Color DSP mat on under the focal image using a die from the scalloped contours die set.
  • The white cardstock on the inside of the card measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • That’s it for the measurements. It really is a quick, but beautiful card since the DSP and stamp set do all the work.

What I Did:

  • Next, I used Momento Tuxedo Black ink to stamp the Hand-Penned Flowers image on white cardstock. I could’ve used the coordinating stamps from the stamp set to color in the flowers and leaves, but I chose to use the Pale Payapa and Misty Moonlight blends to color them. Thankfully, this bundle comes with a coordinating die for the floral images so I didn’t have to fussy cut it.
  • Then, I stamped the sentiment using Misty Moonlight ink and cropped the sentiment using one of the stitched rectangle dies.
  • I wrapped a piece of the Pale Papaya ribbon around the DSP and tied it in a bow.
  • I decided that the Pale Papaya mat needed some sort of definition to it, so I used the blunt end of my Stamping Write marker to outline the stitches in the ditch. Then I adhered the mat using multipurpose liquid glue directly to the DSP and over the ribbon.
  • The floral focal image is popped up on dimensionals, as is the sentiment panel.
  • For the inside white cardstock panel, I stamped a sentiment. I also stamped a part of the same floral image. After I stamped part of the same image in the bottom corner of the envelope. I did use the coordinating flower stamps on both of these images.
  • Finally, I added three of the Misty Moonlight In Color enamel dots to the corners of the stitching in the Pale Papaya mat.
  • After trimming the DSP on the envelope flap and making an envelope seal, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.

A Color Challenge for MMM # 170

Welcome to the Make My Monday #170 challenge!  Jackie chose a color challenge using blue, purple, and yellow for #170.  When you are finished here, I hope you will visit the challenge website to see the projects from the rest of the design team members.  I’m always amazed at how much variety these projects contain.

Here’s my Gorgeous Grape, Pool Party, and Daffodil Yellow Easter card:

I am going to need a number of Easter cards, and after this weekend, I have a good start on my stash.  This Hand-penned Flowers DSP (designer series paper) is gorgeous and the art work and colors on each pattern are stunning.

Measurements:

  • The Gorgeous Grape base measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches to form a tent card.
  • In order to meet the blue part of the challenge, I added a Pool Party mat under the scalloped contours die cut. The Pool Party mat measures 3-7/8 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • Next, I trimmed a piece of the DSP to 3-3/8 inches by 4-3/4 inches. It fits perfectly on the inside part of the scalloped contour die cut. I used the Gorgeous Grape Stampin’ Write marker to outline the DSP.
  • I also trimmed a piece of the DSP to 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches for the envelope flap.

Putting the Card Together:

  • Now for the stamping – I started by stamping both the floral spray and the sentiment using the Momento Tuxedo Black ink pad.
  • Instead of using the stamps for the inside of the flowers and leaves, I colored them in with Stampin’ Blends. I used the light and dark Highland Heather blends for the flowers. Since there’s only one center of a flower, I just used the light Daffodil Delight blend. Finally, I only used the light Mint Macaron blend to color the leaves. I wanted the Highland Heather flowers to stand out for the color challenge.
  • After stamping the sentiment on a scrap piece of white cardstock, I cropped it using a stitched rectangle die. I also outlined the sentiment panel using the Gorgeous Grape marker.
  • Next, I wrapped a piece of the sheer Gorgeous Grape ribbon around the DSP and tied it in a square knot.
  • I popped up the sentiment and floral spray on dimensionals. I used the multipurpose liquid glue to adhere everything else.
  • Finally, I added three In Color 2021 – 2023 rhinestones to the card. One is on the sentiment panel, the other two are on the centers of a couple of daisies.
  • HINT: When using embellishments like the rhinestones, try to keep them in a triangle shape. The triangle is pleasing to the eye and keeps your eye moving from one side of the card to the other.
  • After I trimmed the DSP on the envelope flap and made the envelope seal, I’d finished this coordinated card, envelope, and envelope seal set.
