Cardz 4 Guyz #280 is All About Leaves

Hello and welcome back for another Cardz 4 Guyz challenge!  This time Melanie has chosen leaves for the theme, which leaves (pun intended) the options wide open!  When you are finished readying my blog, I hope you will hop over to the challenge and see all the wonderfully inspired cards from the rest of the design team members!

Here’s my bay window fun fold card:

Measurements:

If you want to get everything cut before you head over to her blog, the measurements are as follows:

  • I used a Mossy Meadow card base measuring 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches. It gets scored at 1/2 inch 2 inches, 3-3/4 inches, 5-1/4 inches, and 5-1.2 inches.
  • In keeping with the leaves theme, I chose to use the Beauty of the Earth DSP 9designer series paper). I needed 3 panels, 2 of which measure 1-3/8 inches by 4-1/8 inches. The middle panel measures 1-5/8 inches by 4-1/8 inches.
  • While I had the DSP out, I trimmed a piece to 2-1/2 inches by 6 inches for the envelope flap.
  • HINT: I followed along with Frenchie’s video when trimming down the panels. Next time, I will cut the first 1-3/8 inches by 4-1/8 inches, then the middle panel, then the other 1-3/8 inches by 4-1/8 inch panel. It is difficult to tell on my card, but the DSP patterns don’t line up across the fold lines. Not a big deal for this card, but there are other DSP patterns for which it will definitely matter.
  • I used the Bumblebee piece of 6 x 6 inch DSP for the end panel of the card. It measures 1-1/2 inches by 4 inches. I wanted to use a Night of Navy mat under this panel, and it measures 1-5/8 inches by 4-1/8 inches.
  • In order to tie the Night of Navy mat in with the small fold on the center of the card, I trimmed another piece to 4-1/8 inches by 1-4 inches.

Stamping:

  • The white cardstock on the inside of the card measures 3-1/2 inches by 4-1/8 inches. Since the Forever Fern stamp set contains leaves similar to those on the DSP, I stamped two of the stamps on the bottom left-hand corner. I used Mossy Meadow ink and also Bumblebee ink over which I randomly colored/highlighted leaves with my Cajun Craze Stamping Write Marker. I did the same thing on the front left-hand bottom corner of the envelope.
  • Next, I used the “GRATEFUL” sentiment from the Sparkle of the Season stamp set stamped in Night of Navy on white cardstock. The two sets of leaves poking out also come from the Forever Fern stamp set and Forever Flourishing coordinating dies. I pulled in the Night of Navy and Misty Moonlight colors from the DSP for those leaves. The sentiment and leaves are popped up on dimensionals.
  • Finally, I used a piece of Bumblebee 6 x 6 DSP for the mat. I am still using up my 6 x 6 DSP color family packs, which explains the patterns for the Bumblebee DSP.

Once you have everything cut and stamped, please go to Frenchie’s video link to put it together. The one thing that I found was an AH-HA moment was putting dimensionals under the Bumblebee/Night of Navy mat panel. That’s how the card stays open to a bay window.

I hope you enjoy her video as much as I did.

Autumn Greetings for FMS452 and ctd610

Freshly Made Sketches 452 and Color Throwdown 610 came together in this card. I took advantage of all the white space for FMS610, and the ctd610 colors added interest and movement.

Here’s my card:

Here are the challenge banners:

Measurements

  • I chose Cherry Cobbler, Bumblebee, Whisper White, Pumpkin Pie and Soft Suede for the autumn colors. I couldn’t figure out whether the yellow-ish option had more yellow or pumpkin color so I used both. Might not really meet the color challenge, but it’s my solution.
  • First, I decided to use Bumblebee for the base of the card. The cardstock measures 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches to create a tent card.
  • The first mat of Soft Suede measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • I trimmed two pieces of Whisper White, one for the front and one for the inside. Both pieces measure 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.

#simplestamping

  • I used the Forever Fern stamp set to stamp the diagonally opposite corners. The splatter stamp from this set added a bit more texture to the corners. Then, I added just one splatter in the opposite corners just so it wasn’t quite so stark.
  • After stamping the corners, I needed to stamp the sentiment from Autumn Greetings in Soft Suede. Originally, I was going to stamp the greeting on a white oval and border it with a bit larger Soft Suede oval. However, I am thrilled that I thought about the double-time stamping option instead.
  • After cropping the stitched oval, I decided that I would just create an outline on the outside of the oval. To accomplish this, I used the Soft Suede marker to create the edge.
  • On the inside, I stamped the Cherry Cobbler and Bumblebee leaf stems and added one splatter stamp in each of the four corners.
  • The inside sentiment is also from the Autumn Greetings stamp set.

Time to finish the card

  • I used the multipurpose glue to adhere everything except the sentiment oval. Using dimensionals under the sentiment added a bit of height.
  • Finally, I needed to take care of decorating the envelope. Instead of DSP on the envelope flap, I used the Forever Fern to stamp the flap and on the front of the card.
  • With that, I’d finished this card/envelope set.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d also love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.

Colour Inspiration #82

I’ve only played along with Colour Inkspiration a few times, mainly because I don’t seem to see the posts on my Facebook feed. You know how that goes with the FB algorithm. I will definitely have to get better about checking it out on a more regular basis. Especially since the color inspiration photo for CI#82 is absolutely gorgeous!

Here’s my card:

Here’s the inspiration photo. Mind you, I only looked at the photo and not the color combo underneath. Therefore, I chose Bermuda Bay instead of Just Jade and Magenta Madness instead of Melon Mambo. Even though I totally see those colors, looking at the combo might have been a good thing to do. OOPS!

Here’s the color inspiration photo:

Image may contain: indoor, text that says '#82 CHALVALLU Just Jade Melon Mambo Whisper White Basic Black'

Gorgeous, right?!?!

A Pretty Basic Layout

  • The base of the card is Bermuda Bay and it measures 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches.
  • I cut the white mat to 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches. I stamped the sentiment, from the Forever Fern stamp set, in Magenta Madness. Then, I cropped the sentiment block out of this mat using the stitched rectangle dies. I put dimensionals in each of the four corners.
  • The Bermuda Bay background measures 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • Black and white stripes seem very classic to me and they ground this fairly bright card. I trimmed this piece to 1-1/2 inches by 3-7/8 inches.
  • Thankfully, I had some scrap Whisper White cardstock onto which I stamps two daisies from Daisy Lane. After I punched them out using the large daisy punch, I used the light Magenta Madness blend to shade in the bottom of the petals. I did make sure that no two petals look the same. Random is much better, for me at least. I added one dimensional under the center of the daisy.
  • I dry-fit the stems, cut from the sunflower dies. and daisy on the left side of the card. When I found an arrangment that worked for me, I very carefully adhered the stems using liquid adhesive. I adhered just the bottom portion of the stems in order to get some movement in them
  • After tying a length of Magenta Madness ribbon in a square knot over the border between the striped and DSP papers, I adhered the sentiment block so it straddles the ribbon.

Inside and the Envelope

  • For another card, I’d cropped a piece of Whisper White cardstock using the largest stitched rectangle die. I used that piece for the inside of the card. In order to add some interest to the inside, I stamped the small, full daisy from Daisy Lane in two diagonal corners. While I had the stamp and ink pad out, I also stamped those daisies in the bottom, left-hand corner of the front of the envelope.
  • Finally, I trimmed a piece of the Bermuda Bay DSP to 6 inches by 2-5/8 inches, adhered it to the envelope flap and trimmed it down.
  • With that, I’d finished another card/envelope coordinating set.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by my blog today. I’d also love to hear what you think, and greatly appreciate every comment.

Poppies, a Birthday, and ctd601

The Color Throwdown #601 challenge for this week includes the generic colors orange, green, pink, and burgundy. Part of what I really enjoy with the ctd challenges is that the colors are generic. Therefore, there’s so much variety of colors used in the gallery cards. I chose Terracotta Tile, Just Jade, Petal Pink, and Merry Merlot.

Here’s my card:

Here’s the challenge banner:

Field of Poppies

Once I had my color choices, the rest of the card just fell into place. I really like this field of poppies stamp but knew I didn’t want to just have it at the bottom of the card. Therefore, I grabbed the Flowers for Every Season DSP and pulled the vine pattern and trimmed it down to 2 inches high.

I’d already stamped the poppies at the bottom of a piece of white cardstock, which explains how I knew I needed something else on the bottom.

The Merry Merlot base is 4-1/4 inches x 5-1/2 inches. I stepped down the Just Jade mat to 4-1/8 inches x 5-3/8 inches. I trimmed the Just Jade DSP to 2 inches x 4-1/8 inches. The white DSP is trimmed to 4 inches x 3-1/4 inches, which would give me just enough to overlap the DSP.

I stamped the poppie fields from Painted Poppies twice across the white cardstock using Momemto Tuxedo Black ink and then let it completely dry before I started coloring. I used the Terracotta Tile marker to control the bleeding.

Then, I needed to make a decision about some sort of texture on the white cardstock. At first I thought I would dry emboss it, but then changed my mind. I wound up using the splotch stamp from the Forever Fern to stamp the Petal Pink. After inking the splotch, I stamped it three times before re-inking. The different hues create depth and texture on the card.

Putting the Card Together

Next, I started putting the card together, and started with the white cardstock and DSP. Once I’d adhered those two pieces together, I moved onto the ribbon.

Since I am incredibly bow-challenged right now, I only trusted myself to tie a square knot. Therefore, I wrapped the Petal Pink organdy striped ribbon around the Just Jade base and simply tied it. I actually like that because the knot doesn’t overwhelm the bottom of the card.

I am all about saving cardstock when I can. Therefore, I cropped the scalloped circle for the sentiment from the Merry Merlot bottom layer, before adhering it of course. The sentiment on the front and inside of the card came from the SAB Sending You Thoughts stamp set. I used Merry Merlot to stamp the front and inside sentiments on white. Then, I cropped the sentiment using the medium circle from the Stitched Shapes die set. I kept the retired tiny paperclips from a couple of years ago and used that to help attach the sentiment to the top of the DSP. Multipurpose liquid adhesive is keeping the sentiment layer at the angle I wanted.

I adhered the front of the card to the Just Jade layer, and then adhered that to the Merry Merlot. Then I, attached all the layers to the front of the white card base. I’d stamped the inside sentiment at the same time I stamped the front. To add interest, I stamped part of the poppy field on the bottom corner of the inside. After letting it completely dry, I colored those poppies in Terracotta Tile as well.

Final Touches

As long as I was already coloring, I stamped some of the poppies on the bottom left corner of the front of the envelope. They also were colored in Terracotta Tile.

I used a 2-5/8 inch x 6 inch piece of the vine DSP to cover the flap of the envelope. Usually, at this point, I would consider myself finished. However, the more I looked at the front of the card, the more I thought I needed something else.

I’ve used the fine tip glue pen to “color” the poppies on the front of the card. The trick with that is to let the glue really, really dry completely before touching it. Therefore, I left it on my desk and went to bed.

Here’s are close-ups of the now “enameled” poppies:

When I first saw the four colors, I really thought they wouldn’t work together. However, work together they did.

Sunflowers, Fun Fold, In Colors, and the Pals Blog Hop

Hello, welcome to the Stampin’ Pretty Pals’ Blog Hop! This month our theme is the “new 2020-2022 In Colors.” The Design Team is showcasing the new family of In Colors from the new catalog. We know you will love them as much as we do! At the end of my post, you will find the full line-up below to help you “hop” along from Pal to Pal.

Celebrate Sunflowers!

I ordered this bundle during the demonstrator pre-order time period and wanted to use it for this blog hop. However, I don’t have the new In Color inks yet (but they are on the way) so I have been trying to figure out what to do with the bundle. I’ve already posted sunflower cards, and you can see those links here, and here, and here.

Both these cards incorporate four of the five new In Colors: Bumblebee, Cinnamon Cider, Just Jade, and Moonlight Madness, which is my favorite right now.

First, here’s my “regular” card:

For this sunflower, I used the Momento Tuxedo Black to stamp on Bumblebee cardstock. Then I added some white embossing powder to the black and used my heat tool to set the embossing powder. I still thought the flower looked unfinished, so I cropped the detailed sunflower out of vellum. Lining up the die cut on the sunflower can be interesting, so be patient; the results are so worth it. I cropped and adhered the flower center from a piece of Cinnamon Cider DSP.

Card # 2

The next card is a fun fold using basically the same elements, but with a pretty big difference in the sunflower.

Here’s that card:

On this version, I stamped the sunflower in Crumb Cake on the Bumblebee cardstock. I didn’t emobss anything, just simply added a sunflower cropped from vellum. Then I added another cropped Cinnamon Cider center to this flower as well. I’m getting my inks, markers, and blends on my next SU! order. They should be arriving early next week. Then I will be able to play some more with the sunflowers. I saw a picture of a Chocolate Cherry sunflower on Pinterest and am really looking forward to trying that out!

The rest of the elements on the front of the cards are the same.

What’s the Same?

Both cards use Cinnamon Cider for the base of the cards. I used the new Tasteful Textile 3D embossing folder for the Whisper White background.

Both cards also have Moonlight Madness DSP across the bottom. I knew I needed to do something across that blue DSP to tie the card together, but ribbon didn’t work. That’s when I grabbed this Bumblebee piece of DSP from the Flowers for Everything DSP 6 x 6 stack. The result of that strip of DSP worked better than the ribbon, in my humble opinion.

I used Crumb Cake to stamp the leaves on Just Jade, then used the dies to crop them out. Each card has six leaves in two groups: one large and two small per group.

Forever Fern

This sentiment is from the new Forever Fern stamp set. It’s very versatile, so this card can be for a new job, leaving an old job, going to college, fighting a medical condition, etc. I stamped the sentiment in Crumb Cake on Whisper White and then used the stitched rectangle dies to crop it out. Since I knew I wanted the sentiment to overlap the flower, I needed a larger label. Enter the Stitched So Sweetly dies. This size label fit the space thought I needed to fill.

What’s Different?

The fun fold! If I remember correctly, this fold is a kind of Dutch door fold. After scoring the 4-1/4 x 11 at 5-1/2 inches, I very carefully trimmed off the top 1-3/4 inches to create the flap. Because of the original layout, the front of both cards look just about identical. But when you open the card…

The back of the front of the card is very different! I didn’t want cardstock showing on the inside, so I used more DSP from the Flowers for Everything stack. I love that the four colors on the front of the card are the same as the four on the inside of the card. One big tip to share —— be careful which side is up when you use the dies! Since I wanted these sides of the two DSP patterns to show, I had to place the reverse side DOWN when cropping. After I took care of the backs of the flowers and leaves, I thought I couldn’t leave the inside flap of Cinnamon Cider plain cardstock either. Therefore, I grabbed another piece of the In Color 2020 – 2022 DSP. I wanted the DSP to be subtle on the inside, so I chose this Cinnamon Cider DSP pattern.

Different Inside as Well

In order to leave room for a note on the inside, I only dry embossed the top part of the Whisper White for the fun fold version. I wanted something on the bottom half of the card, so I stamped off Crumb Cake and stamped part of the sunflower on the white cardstock. Even after I stamped it off, the Crumb Cake was still too dark. Therefore, I grabbed my Tombow sand eraser for ink. If you don’t have one of this little wonders, you need to get one. I got mine on Amazon. Love! I was able to very, very carefully and lightly sand off enough of the ink to create this light sunflower image.

After finishing both cards, I only needed to add Moonlight Madness DSP to each of the envelope flaps. I also stamped some Crumb Cake partial sunflowers on the bottom of the front of the envelope. With that, the two card/envelope sets were complete.
