Cherry Blossoms for Cardz 4 Galz #157

Welcome back to the biweekly Cardz 4 Galz challenge!  Dawn chose the theme for challenge # 157, and I chose to use my brand new Forever Blossoms bundle!  I hope you will visit the challenge blog and see the rest of the cards created by our design team members!

Here’s my card:

These cherry blossoms remind me of Washington, D.C. They are gorgeous in person.

Measurements:

  • The Old Olive card base measures 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 5-1/2 inches.
  • I used a Petal Pink mat, and it measures 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
  • I ran the white cardstock through the cut and emboss machine in the brick and mortar 3D embossing folder first. Then I trimmed it down to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • I used a piece of white cardstock for the cherry blossoms and the sentiment.
  • The white cardstock for the inside panel measures my usual 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches.
  • The last measurement is for the envelope flap. I used a piece of Petal Pink DSP and it measures 6 inches by 2-1/2 inches.

What I Did:

  • After stamping the cherry blossom stamp in Soft Suede, I had to really let it dry thoroughly before coloring with Stampin’ Blends. At this point, I also stamped a portion of the blossoms on the bottom, left-hand corner of the inside panel and allowed it to dry completely.
  • While that was drying, I stamped the front sentiment from the Forever Blossoms stamp set in Old Olive on white cardstock.
  • I cropped this sentiment using the Seasonal Labels die set. Since I wanted the sentiment to stand out from the white brick and mortar background, I outlined it using the Soft Suede marker. Then, I put dimensionals under this sentiment.
  • I used Stampin’ Blends to color the blossoms and leaves. The light Soft Suede blend was used for the stem portions. I used the light and dark Petal Pink blends. Finally, I colored the leaves using the light and dark Old Olive blends. This color combination seems perfect for the cherry blossoms. After cropping the blossoms using the coordinating dies, I popped it up on dimensionals.
  • One of the reasons I chose Petal Pink was to use this gorgeous ribbon. I wrapped a length of it around the white cardstock and tied it in a bow. Since the blossoms would be on the left side of the card, I put the bow on the right side to balance the card.
  • I tucked the sentiment under the ribbon on the left. Then I decided the card needed a bit of something else. Therefore, I used three pearl basic jewels placed in a triangle pattern around the blossoms.

Inside and Finishing Up:

  • The always and Forever sentiment for the inside also comes from the Forever Blossoms stamp set. This whole set is just phenomenal! I had to give it a second and third look before I broke down and bought it, but I am very glad I did!
  • Here’s the inside:
  • I stamped then colored the same partial blossom/leaf combination on the bottom, left-hand side of the front of the envelope.
  • Finally, I trimmed the DSP on the envelope flap. I’d cropped and colored some single blossoms thinking I would use them. Since I didn’t use them for the front of the card, one of them makes a great envelope seal.
  • With that, this coordinated card/envelope/seal set was complete..
