Welcome to InKing Royalty’s November Blog Hop! During this year’s blog hops, we are enjoying a year of celebrations. This month’s projects celebrate Christmas, which – believe it or not – is just around the corner. Please prepare yourself for lots of beautiful projects that share the joy of this holiday. We are excited to share our creations with you today! After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.
A friend asked me to make her teenage niece a cute Christmas card. Snowmen are cute, right? I used the Snowman Season photopolymer stamp set. I’ve been looking at it for a year and finally ordered it a couple of months ago. I am so glad I did! I made this card using the Fab Friday #201 sketch for the layout.
Here’s my card:
That happy dancing snowman is too cute! I used a Night of Navy/Seaside Spray color scheme with a bit of foil to keep the card from appearing too cutesy.
Here’s the Fab Friday 201 banner for this challenge:
Supplies and Measurements:
The Seaside Spray base of the card measures 5-1/2 inches by 8-1/2 inches, scored at 4-1/4 inches.
I used a piece of the Night of Navy 6 x 6 inch DSP for the background mat, and trimmed it to 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches.
Next, I ran a piece of Seaside Spray cardstock through the Big Shot using the brick and mortar 3D embossing folder. Then, I cropped it using one of the stitched rectangle dies. The final panel measures 3-3/4 inches x 5-1/8 inches.
I used multipurpose liquid adhesive on both the Night of Navy DSP and the brick embossed Seaside Spray cardstock to adhere them to the card base. This is my favorite adhesive, and I may or may not be hoarding it so I don’t run out. I have 3 containers in the jar on my desk and 18 in my adhesive drawer. I got down to three containers before and will never let myself get that low again. Strange – I will let my car run as low on gas as possible before refilling it. However, adhesive? I’m all about buying that when I get down to a dozen containers. Go figure………..
The foil is the reverse side of a scrap piece of the Frost DSP. It measures 3-1/4 inches long and wide enough to attach on the back of the white panel.
The white cardstock for the front was trimmed to 3-3/4 inches by 2-1/2 inches. While I had the white cardstock out, I trimmed a piece to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches for the inside.
Snowman and Snowflake Fun!
I didn’t want a plain white space background for the snowman/sentiment panel. Therefore, I used the snowflake stamp from Snowman Season and my Seaside Spray ink pad. Since I wanted subtle snowflakes, I stamped it off once, then stamped twice on the white cardstock. The varying snowflake colors add depth to the white cardstock. I didn’t want snowflakes behind the snowman, and made sure I didn’t stamp where I planned on placing the snowman.
Both the snowman and the sentiment were stamped in Night of Navy. I used the light Pumpkin Pie blend for the carrot nose. That little pop of orange just completely works for a teenager card.
I used the light Seaside Spray blend to color in the snowman. Then, I used the color lifter blend three or four times to life off almost all of the color. When using the color lifter, make sure you let it dry completely before adding more.
The card really needed some ribbon. However, the beautiful Seaside Spray ribbon wasn’t wide enough and has a sophisticated feel. I didn’t want to add another color to the card, so I used the light Seaside Spray blend and colored the polka dot tulle ribbon. After wrapping the ribbon around the foil and white cardstock piece, I tied it in a square knot. It came out just like I saw it in my head.
I stamped a non-symmetric snowflake frame around the inside white cardstock panel. Then I stamped Merry Christmas in Night of Navy in the center of the inside.
Finally, I added a strip of the foil DSP and a piece of the Night of Navy DSP to the envelope flap. With that, I’d finished this coordinated card/envelope set.
I Just Had a Thought I Must Try SOON!
Sitting here typing this, I thought how cute would this be if I made the white piece into a shaker card using the Stampin’ Up! clear envelopes. If this post didn’t need to go live early in the morning, I would start the shaker right now! Stay tuned for those results.

When I firt started working on my blog post cards, I thought I would definitely use the Feels Like Frost DSP. For some reason, I wound up creating three cards using the same DSP pattern in three different layouts.
Here are my cards:
Why Glitter? Why Three Cards?
Believe me, I am not usually a fan of glitter. It gets everywhere, even when it’s been pieces of specialty designer paper. However, this Balmy Blue glitter paper doesn’t shed at all. As you can see, I used my trimmer on the glitter paper. Happily, I didn’t have any stray little pieces of glitter anywhere. Score!
If you did not get the Feels Like Frost DSP last year, you are in luck this year! This paper is one of my all-time favorite DSP collections and I think it’s just stunning! The coordinating colors are: Balmy Blue, Blushing Bride, Highland Heather, Night of Navy, Pretty Peacock, Purple Posy, Rococo Rose, Seaside Spray, Smoky Slate, and Whisper White. Click on the following picture to get a closer look at this DSP:
After I finished the first card, I had leftover pieces and thought that I could do something else with the strips and the leftover glitter paper. Then, after I finished the scrappy technique card I thought I should create something that would allow the DSP to do all the work. That’s why I created three cards.
First, the Commonalities
All three cards have the basics in common. First, all have a Pretty Peacock base cut to 4-1/4 inches by 11 inches, scored at 5-11/2 inches. Second, all have a Seaside Spray mat cut to 4-1/8 inches by 5-3/8 inches. Third, all have a Whisper White piece of cardstock for the inside cut to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. I also put a 3/4 inch by 4 inch scrap piece of matching DSP on the bottom of the inside white piece. Just as on the outside sentiment, all three have the same sentiment on the inside. I used the Cherish the Season stamp set from the mini-catalog for the sentiments.
I used my Stamparatus to stamp the “Merry Christmas” sentiment on Pretty Peacock using VersaMark ink. Remember to wipe down the cardstock with your embossing buddy first Since I didn’t have to worry about trying to line everything up perfectly, I could stamp it multiple times. Then, I covered each sentiment with white embossing powder and heat set it.
The Seaside Spray metallic ribbon is just as beautiful as the DSP. I am so glad it carried over! Last Christmas, I went through a roll and a half of it. I have already ordered two rolls from this year’s annual catalog. Beautiful!
This sentiment fits perfectly in the stitched rectangle die. I wanted something additional for the sentiment, so I cropped two of the trim for each sentiment. I did have to overlap the trim pieces to get the length I needed, then trimmed it down. The sentiments on the scrappy and the DSP card are rasied on dimensionals.
Differences Explained
First Card
The first card has a 1-1/4 inch by 4 inch piece of the Balmy Blue glitter paper on the left side. I trimmed the DSP to 3-1/2 inches by taking 1-1/4 inch off each side, which allowed for a 1/4 inch overlap under the glitter paper. Next, I wrapped the Seaside Spray around the front so that it covers the border between the two papers. I slid the sentiment under the ribbon right up against the glitter paper and used liquid adhesive to attach it.
Second Card
When I finished the first card, I had two 1-1/4 inch strips of the DSP and a 6 inch by 1-1/4 inch piece of glitter paper. Therefore, I thought I would try to use the leftovers for a scrappy card. I trimmed each of the leftover strips diagonally. Since the pieces were shorter than the Seaside Spray mat for this card, I decided to use a piece of white cardstock under my diagonal cuts. I trimmed the white cardstock to 3-3/8 inches by 5-1/8 inches. This gave me just enough room to have a very thin white line showing between the DSP and the glitter. Once again, I wrapped the Seaside Spray ribbon but horizontally this time and tied it in a square knot. The sentiment is straddling the ribbon using dimensionals.
Third Card
This DSP deserves to be the focal point of a clean card, and that’s what I did for the third card. I trimmed the DSP to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches and centered it on the Seaside Spray mat. Once again, I wrapped the ribbon around the bottom of the card, where it wouldn’t interfere with the DSP. The sentiment block is straddling the ribbon and popped up on dimensionals. Using the rule of threes, I knew that I needed something to balance the card on the top of it. Therefore, I used three of the new clear Elegant Faceted Dots on the top, right-hand corner.

This gorgeous DSP really does the work for all these cards. I needed ten cards ASAP and was able to create all these within a couple of hours yesterday. Fronts, embossing, insides, envelopes, and all the sequins on the fronts and insides. The DSP makes all that possible.
Here’s my infinity shot:
There are multiples of each card, and here’s a shot of each card:
Easy Peasy
Before I cut any of the DSP, I figured out where, on the bottom of the card, I would be placing the sentiment. Then I cut all the paper and started stamping the sentiments, which I did in groups of five. I used clear stamping emboss powders after I stamped each card and then use my heat gun to set it.
After I completed the fronts, I stamped the insides of all the cards with the sentiment and snowflakes. I used the Perfectly Plaid stamp set for the insides and outsides of the card. Frosted Foliage provided the snowflake stamp, which is already in a corner pattern. Both of these stamp sets can be found in the holiday catalog.
That was it. Ten cards in just a few hours. I spent most of that time using the Fine Tip Glue Pen and my Take and Pick to adhere the snowflake sequins. I again used the snowflake stamp on the bottom left corner and the flap of the envelopes.
Here are close-ups of the snowflake sequins:
The snowflakes on the bottom left and top right both got snowflakes.

Paper Pumpkin ~ an all-inclusive kit delivered to you every month!

It’s been a rough almost 3 weeks. I’ve been sick, on my third round of antibiotics, and am very thankful for this week for Thanksgiving break.
However, the circle of life keeps moving on, and I needed to create a sympathy card for one of the administrators at school whose father recently passed away. I think these cards are the most difficult to create, especially for a male, and I don’t keep a stash of these cards on hand. It’s also important for me to create these cards when I need them, and this one is for a male and his family.
The Freshly Made Sketches 412 challenge really helped me with this particular card. The sketch allowed me to create a very clean card using some gorgeous DSP.
Here’s my card:
Here’s the challenge banner:
Clean and Simple
The FMS412 sketch inspired a clean and simple card. My list of supplies was minimal as well. In addition to the base, I used a sentiment from the retired Lasting Lily stamp set. I don’t really have many sympathy sentiments, and forget that until I need another card. Therefore, I must remember to order a current stamp set for these cards. I then cropped the sentiment using the Stitched Rectangle die set.
The DSP really does all the work for this card. When I was trying to figure out the base, I wound up choosing Highland Heather, which isn’t on the coordinating color list. Purple Posy is on the list, but I wanted something bolder for the base.
At first, I thought that I would run the base through the Big Shot using the Sublte 3D embossing folder. However, I wanted clean lines, so I decided against doing that.
Dimensionals added a pop to the sentiment. The ribbon added texture and a much needed “something” to balance the card. Feels Like Frost DSP carried the whole card. I left the inside blank because a number of us needed to sign the card.
In the Freshly Made Sketches way, I finished with clean lines. In my humble opinion, it’s a beautiful card, and the sketch easily lends itself to a multitude of options.
As always,
Thank you so very much for stopping by my blog today. I appreciate your the time you take to read, and comment, on my cards.

This paper is absolutely stunning! One side of each 6″ x 6″ sheet has a gorgeous winter photo, the other side has different silver patterns on Whisper White. Both sides are fabulous. Here’s the photo from the SU! holiday catalog:
Click on the image in order to view it in all its glory! Small pictures don’t do it justice.
The paper is so gorgeous, it does all the work on this easy-peasy card, while meeting the ctd565 challenge: lavendar, grey, and black.
Here’s my card:
The DSP Does All the Work
I really did not want to cover up this gorgeous print. The Stampin Up! colors in this print are Purple Posy, Highland Heather, and Smoky Slate.
The sentiment is from the retired, but permanent stamp set on my shelves, Watercolor Christmas. I stamped it in Memento Tuxedo Black on vellum cardstock. It’s been quite a while since I had any luck using embossing powder, but I wanted to try for this card. Therefore, I used my embossing buddy on the vellum before I stamped the sentiment. While still wet, I covered the sentiment with clear embossing powder. I wasn’t sure how it would come out, but it worked. Score! I did need to use the heat gun from the top and bottom to help keep the vellum from warping. The embossing doesn’t show up well on the photo, but it does in person.
I cropped both the vellum and Purple Posy cardstock layer using the Layered Circles die set. Since there wasn’t a way to easily hide the adhesive behind the sentiment, I used a make-up wedge to spread Tombow liquid adhesive over the whole Purple Posy cardstock layer. Since the whole circle is covered with adhesive, it doesn’t show through. Next, I ran a piece of Smoky Slate cardstock through the Big Shot in the Subtles embossing folder, turned the paper 90 degrees and ran it through again. This gave the cardstock a hatched appearance. I used the Layered Circles die set for this circle as well.
Finishing Touches
Next, I matted the DSP on Basic Black cardstock to both coordinate with the sentiment and to provide a real pop against the DSP.
Finally, I tied a pieces of the black glittered organdy ribbon around the base/DSP, popped up the sentiment on dimensionals and attached it down. I used a piece of the DSP on the envelope flap, and I was done.
Easy-peasy!
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today. A big thanks, in advance, for taking the time to leave a comment.
