Come Gather with #MojoSketch522

Mojo Monday Challenge with Poetic Artistry

I used to really enjoy playing along with the Mojo Monday challenges and have really missed it.   Running a weekly challenge is a challenge in and of itself.  So, imagine my surprise and happiness when Julee Tilman, of Poetic Artistry  revived the challenge.  Thankfully, these challenges are now bi-weekly.  Since I make cards specifically for challenges, and then miss the deadlines, I really enjoy the two week timetable.

For Thanksgiving every year, I create cards for every family in attendance, and this year I need about 15, which includes friends of our family who have nowhere to go.  I have been using the Come to Gather DSP, the Gather Together bundle, and the ribbon combo pack.  So far, I have five cards, two of which I missed the link deadline.

Here’s the challenge banner:

Here’s the card I create

Pretty Peacock and Early Espresso, Who Knew?

This DSP has some very traditional fall colors, and also has the non-traditional colors of Pretty Peacock and Mint Macaron.  Early Espresso is also in this DSP, and I can’t get over the gorgeous colorcombination of Pretty Peacock and Early Espresso.  Mint Macaron plays a supporting role in this very non-traditional color combination.  I have a strong feeling that my cards this season will be in these colors, at least until I run out of the coordinating DSP.  If I run out, I can always get another pack.

The maple leaf is stamped onto vellum and then cropped using the coordinating dies.  I didn’t stamp anything on the smaller leaf.  Instead, I cropped it with the die and then used the embossing pad to run the leaf through the Big Shot.  It did take a couple of times to get the depth of impressions.

To create the various layers, I just had to mat the pieces in Early Espresso and adhear them together.   Easy Peasy!

Thank you for stopping by today.

Have a Peachy day!

Gather Together Bundle Meets CAS(E) this sketch #377

Season of Thanks

Each Thanksgiving, I create at least 15 Thanksgiving cards for family and friends at our dinner.  I try to create a variety so that no two cards are exactly the same.  Therefore, I rely on sketch challenges for inspiration and I used CTS #377 for inspiration for the card below.  I did take some creative liberty with the sketch, but I think it is still evident in the card.

Here’s the challenge banner:

Here’s the card I created:

I have come to the conclusion that the non-traditional fall colors of Pretty Peacock, Mint Macaron, and Early Espresso might just be my favorite in this Come to Gather DSP!

My Liberties

The horizontal banner, which is made from the 2019 – 2021 In Color DSP, definitely follows the sketch.  I knew I wanted to use the Everyday Label Punch for the sentiment with matted layers of Pretty Peacock and Early Espresso.   Early Espresso provides the cardstock for the horizontal mat and the card outline.  I also used it to stamp the maple leaf and pumpkins on vellum cardstock.  While I wanted the maple leaf to be see-through, I did not want the pumpkins see-through.  I used my dark Mint Macaron blend to color the back of the pumpkin stamps.  Then, I used the dark Crumb Cake blend on top of the Mint Macaron.  The pumpkins were then matted on cropped white cardstock.

I miss the fall season.  I can’t begin to tell you how long it’s been since I’ve seen a real fall in person.  The maple leaf reminds me of fall on Long Island.  I really can’t get over how this gorgeous, non-traditional color combination brings happy memories to the forefront.

The placement of the sentiment starts my creative liberties.   There’s no sentiment on the sketch, so I made sure it almost exactly lined up with the horizontal band to stay within the spirit of the sketch.

Following the Sketch

When I started placing the vellum elements, I realized I would need a grounding element.  I solved this problem by using the Come to Gather Crumb Cake ribbon.   However, I still wasn’t happy with the way the maple leaf, blended into the DSP.   I thought of an open square, which I created by using two of the Stitched Shapes square dies, would solve this dilemma.  I used the splatter stamp from the Gather Together stamp set and Pretty Peacock ink to create a subtle pattern on the square.  When I put all these elements together, I decided that I had followed the sketch while also taking liberties with it.

I struggle with collage cards, but this one pleases me and it came together relatively quickly.   As always, I finished by stamping the inside of the card, pictured below:

I had to use third generation stamping to get the maple leaf light enough for the sentiment to show, which comes from the Gather Together stamp set.

I used a gingham print from the DSP for the envelope flap.  Then,  stamped an Early Espresso maple leaf on the front of the envelope.

With that, I had completed my card and envelope combination.

Thank you for stopping by today.

Have a Peachy day!

A New (to Me) Challenge: Colour Inkspirations #159

Somewhere Along the Line

I came across this card posted on FaceBook by Stampincronelia – Corine van Wijk for the Colour Inkspiration Card Challenge, #159.  Obviously it’s been around for a long time, but Corine’s stunning card using the colors were a fabulous combination.   Therefore,  I did some searching and found the challenge information on Facebook.  ci#159’s color combination is Seaside Spray, Smokey Slate, Early Espresso, and Very Vanilla.  Gorgeous colors and the combination is stunning.

At first, I thought that I would use this colors to create a sympathy card, which I think are difficult to create.  Instead, I decided to use the Colorful Seasons bundle, especially the “just breathe” sentiment.  The card I created follows:

The Elements

I went through all kinds of ideas, and first thought I wanted to create a window flap card.  However, the retired Smokey Slate DSP is one of my all time favorite DSPs and I am getting low on the color choices left in my stash.  Finally, I decided on a faux window card.  The top piece of Smoky Slate cardstock was first run through the Subtle TIEF, and then cropped using the largest square in the Stitched Shapes die set.  My dimensionals got a workout for this card because I popped the top cardstock up from the DSP panel.  This same set of dimensionals also allowed the whole front to be popped up from the Whisper White cardstock.

I stamped the sentiment in Early Espresso on Very Vanilla and then cropped it using the Rectangle Stitched die set.  I also cropped the branch from Early Espresso using the Seasonal Layers die set.  Once again, dimensionals added the depth I wanted for the sentiment.

The final color, Seaside Spray, in my mind, was always going to be for the flowers.  Originally, I had just four flowers on the front, but the even number bothered my sense of balance.  The fifth flower did not quite fit, which explains why I cropped it off the side.  I thought I still needed something, so I added the new In Color Faceted Dots to the center of the flowers and for the dot on the “j”.

Life is a Beautiful Thing, Even with Happy Accidents

For some reason, the inside sentiment did not want to stamp well at all.  Thankfully, I used my Stamparatus so I could stamp multiple times until I liked the result.  However, a problem arose when I microscopically moved the card and my final stamp was just barely off.  I’d already glued the DSP on the bottom of the inside and had attached the front to the white cardstock.  What to do?  My happy accident created a beautiful focal point on the inside.  I cropped a piece of Smoky Slate using the same large square die from Stiched Shapes.  Then I just had to repeat the stamping process, again using my Stamparatus.

Finally, I decorated the envelope using the flowers and branch from the Colorful Seasons stamp set.

When I started writing this blog post, I realized I would just need to change the sentiments and this could be a sympathy card.  I will remember this card next time I need one.

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog today.

Have a Peachy Day!

InKing Blog Hop, September Morn, and #GDP156

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s September Blog Hop! This year’s Blog Hop themes are inspired by popular songs – this month’s song is “September Morn,” a Neil Diamond classic from the late ’70’s. As you can guess, our Blog Hop today is filled with projects that are inspired by the beauty of Autumn – September is when the air becomes crisp and the leaves start to fall. We are excited to share our creations with you today! After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

Here’s my card and coordinating envelope.

First,

I love Neil Diamond.  I’ve seen him in concert and it was great.  So, I am happy that my first blog post, since we packed up our house two months ago, features one of his songs for the theme.

Second,

Thank heavens the GDP#156 challenge was a real inspiration for this card and challenge.   I’d been struggling with a fall card, partially because I wanted to organize my new “blue room” (craft room) before I really ordered everything I wanted from the holiday catalog.  The other reason for my struggle is that I live in Central Florida and it’s difficult to think about fall cards when it is still 95-100 degrees each day.  This isn’t a complaint, it’s a fact of Florida weather.

Third,

Many thanks to my upline, Brian King, for offering DSP paper shares from the holiday catalog.  Saved me this month!  On to my card and my interpretation of the GDP#156 challenge!

Here’s the challenge card:

When I recieved my happy mail, in the form of my paper share, I found that I really, really like my share paper samples!  I had to pick a sentiment from non-holiday stamps which I already owned.  Therefore, I picked one from the Rooted in Nature stamp set.  It even feels like fall to me, but maybe it’s just me.

Once I had the sentiment, I was able to pick the DSP I wanted to use, and both patterns are from the Country Lane DSP.  I just love the cotton bolls, and Crushed Curry is definitely a fall color.  TheEarly Espresso background pattern is also from Country Lane DSP, and really makes the cotton bolls pop.  The wood look really gives dimension to the background without overwhelming the card.

I added the mats of Crushed Curry and Early Espresso and thought I needed a little something, something.  Enter the Crumb Cake Nature’s Twine for the wrapping around the card and then the bow.  Since I am bow challenged, I actually wrapped the twine and tied a knot.  I gathered one side of the twine together so it would look authentic, and tied another knot.  Then, I tied a bow and glued it down onto the knots.

Thank you for stopping by today.

I hope you’ll hop along to the next stop on the blog hop, Brian King from stampwithbrian.com. There’s lots of inspiration to be found in this group – and you don’t want to miss it!
