Red, White, and Blue for the InKing Royalty June Blog Hop

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s June Blog Hop! During this year’s blog hops, we are enjoying a year of celebrations. This month’s projects celebrate the 4th of July – the projects are inspirational, patriotic and filled with reds, whites and blues. We are excited to share our creations with you today! After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

Red, White, and Blue

What to do when you don’t have a fireworks stamp set, nor a stamp set with a star? This situation has plagued me for about a week, then I found inspiration from an unlikely source! As I was scrolling through Facebook, I came upon an ad from Life is Good t-shirts. The red t-shirt simply had a white daisy with touches of red on the petals and a star on a blue background for the star. Winner!

Here’s my card:

Three Stamp Sets and a Couple of Punches

Initially, I tried to use my Real Red blends to color the daisies, but I wasn’t happy with my results. Therefore, I pulled the Daisy Lane stamp set and the large daisy punch. The rest was pretty straight forward.

After stamping six daisies with Real Red, I punched them out with the daisy punch.

Next, I had to figure out what to do about a star in the middle of the punched 1/2 inch Night of Navy circles. Without any star stamps, I used the small five petal flower from the Special Someone stamp set. Five points on a star, five points on a flower – works for me. I used the craft white ink pad to stamp the stars. Remember, when you are using the white craft ink pad you need to add some ink before you try to use it. If you don’t, your stamps will stick to the cardstock and pull it apart when you remove the stamp. Don’t ask me how I know……..

I stacked two of the punched daisies off-centered to create the daisy. Next, I added the blue circles to the center of the flowers. Finally, I added dimensionals under each of the daisies.

For the sentiment, I used the Celebrate Sunflowers stamp set. The stamp actually says “Let’s celebrate you”. I used my Night of Navy marker to color in just the first two words and stamped it on white cardstock. After cropping the block out using the Stitched Rectangle dies, I trimmed a piece of navy to mat it. Then I put dimensionals under the right side of the sentiment and the bottom left corner. A dab of glue connects the sentiment to the daisy, and the dimensionals keep it on the red cardstock.

Putting the Card Together

For the red background, I ran a 4″ by 5-1/4 inch piece of Real Red cardstock through the Big Shot using the new Tasteful Textile 3D embossing folder. If you don’t have this very versatile embossing folder yet, it really needs to be on your next product order. It ranks right up there with the Subtles 3D embossing folder.

I already knew I would be using a white mat under the red front, with a Night of Navy card base. In the process of dry-fitting all the elements of the card, I decided I needed a ribbon of some sort. The only one I had that is from the current catalog and would work is the polka dot tulle. That’s actually a good thing because I love this ribbon and am working on my third roll of it. I simply wrapped the ribbon around the red cardstock and tied it in a square knot.

Next, I arranged the daisies in a triangle. A triangle balances out the elements on the card and provides balance.

Another tip for creating a balanced card includes an odd number of elements. I love math, all kinds, and for me, even numbers make me happy. Silly and strange, I know, and I blame it on my astrophysicist father. In this case, I have three flowers, one sentiment block, and one ribbon. Those five elements create a balanced card.

After I layered the front red and white layers, I attached them to the navy card base. For the inside, I cut down white cardstock to 4 inches by 5-1/4 inches. Then I stamped a small daisy in three corners, leaving the top left corner plain for a salutation.

Finishing Touches

I used a piece of the neutrals DSP to attach it to the flap of the envelope. After that, I stamped a daisy on the bottom corner of the front of the envelope. Since I’d punched an extra blue circle with a white flower stamped on it, I put that in the center of the daisy on the front.

With that, I’d completed this card/envelope set.

Sunday Stamps 218 Meets #GDP217

Daisy Lane Bundle

Sometimes a card just comes together in a flash. This card did just that. Global Design Project # 217’s color challenge for this week consists of Flirty Flamingo, Mossy Meadow, and Crumb Cake. I had no idea what I could or would create. Then, I checked the Sunday Stamps challenge, and it all came together quickly.

Here’s my card:

Here are the challenge banners:

Sunday Stamps 218

Once I saw the circles on the sketch, I knew exactly what I was going to use to meet the sketch requirement. Daisies. Three daisies. Three Flirty Flamingo daisies.

I used the Stamparatus to stamp the daisies in Flirty Flamingo on the matching cardstock. The Stamparatus makes it so completely easy to stamp layers of ink perfectly aligned. Since I wanted something different, I grabbed the Flirty Flamingo DSP from the Brights 6 x 6 DSP and again used my Stamparatus. Then, all I had to do was use the large and small daisy punches to crop the flower parts. There’s one dimensional between the two layers of each of the daisies.

For the base, I layered Mossy Meadow on the bottom and Crumb Cake in the middle. The top layer had to be Whisper White in order for the daisies to pop.

In order to get the Mossy Meadow ferns, from the Daisy Lane stamp set, in the right places on the white, I needed to dry fit the flowers. Then it was a matter of figuring out where I wanted the ferns, stamp, dry fit again, and repeat.

Finishing Up

I stamped the sentiment in Mossy Meadow on Whisper White. Then, I used the Rectangle Stitched dies to crop both the sentiment and the mat under it. The only two places I used the Crumb Cake are the middle base layer and the sentiment mat layer. However, I met the challenge.

After taking pictures for this post, I decided I needed some bling. Therefore, I added a small and large clear faceted gem to the center of two of the daisies. I feel like I should add another gem, but can figure out where to put it, so I guess I am done.

I stamped the small full daisy on the front of the envelope. Another DSP print, and the script is my favorite pattern, for the envelope flap.

As always,

Thank you so very much for stopping by my blog today. I appreciate your the time you take to read, and comment, on my cards.

Here I Am Again: right at the wire for GDP#178

Global Design Project #178

This week GDP is a sketch challenge, a clean and simple layout.  Sometimes those are the most difficult to create when I struggle with open space.

Here’s the challenge sketch:

I haven’t looked at the challenge in a few days, but did check out the Fab Friday challenge, which is where I got the three colors of Mossy Meadow, Calypso Coral, and Petal Pink.

Card Elements

First, here’s my card:

I knew I would struggle with the open space on this card, so I used the Crackled Paint background stamp.  I chose Smoky Slate and stamped it off before stamping on the Whisper White cardstock.  It is subtle, but does provide the pattern I wanted.

The Daisy Delight stamp set is the only one I used for this card, along with the coordinating daisy punch.  I also used the Leaf Sprig punch.

I used the Mossy Meadow for the base color, sentiment, leaf sprigs, and the center of the daisy.  For the center, I stamped off the solid full dot and then used the second stamp at full strength.

Calypso Coral provided the ink for the daisy, and the background strip for the sentiment.  I stamped the daisy on Petal Pink cardstock in Calypso Coral as well.   I also bordered the Crackled Paint background with Calypso Coral ink, which kept me from needing another layer of cardstock.

Finally, I tied a bow using the Calypso Coral  Nature’s Twine.  Then, I popped up the base of the card using mini-dimensionals on the Mossy Meadow cardstock base.

Fab Friday 132: Four color challenge, 3 stamp sets.

Fab Friday 132

I have been looking at this four color challenge for a little more than a week just waiting for inspiration to hit.  I love each of these colors:  Pool Party, Old Olive, Rich Razzleberry, and Soft Suede.  I’ve looked at the cards from the Design Team a number of times, again waiting for inspiration to hit.

Tonight I was just browsing through Pinterest (that should be a hobby in and of itself) and saw a card using the Delightful Daisy stamp set and punch, and inspiration hit.  Hard, like someone had literally smacked me up the side of my head.

Here’s the challenge:

My Challenge Card Creation

The three stamp sets I used were Daisy Delight (flowers), Dragonfly Dreams (sentiment), and Painted Harvest (leaves).  All three sets are current photoplymer sets.   When I stamped the daisies in Pool Party on Whisper White, I decided I didn’t want all the white showing, so I used an Aqua Blender to very lightly shade all the petals with Pool Party.  After I shaded, I punched using the coordinating daisy punch.  Two clear faceted gems added bling for the centers of the daisies.

The leaves are stamped in Old Olive on the Old Olive cardstock, then punched with the coordinating leaf punch.

The sentiment is in Rich Razzleberry and matted on Soft Suede.  I decided I wanted just a touch of ribbon, so I made a very tight little knot using Rich Razzleberry ribbon and adhered it to the sentiment using a glue dot.

The background Rich Razzleberry cardstock was run through the Big Shot using the Leaves TIEF.  If you haven’t tried any of the Textured Impressions Embossing Folders, you need to treat yourself to one, or two, or more.  The textures on these folders are deep and detailed.

The Soft Suede DSP panel is out of one of my very favorite In Color stacks.  I absolutely, positively adore these patterns and have been hoarding er, saving, all the scraps so I can continue to love them all.  A mat of Soft Suede cardstock under the DSP adds depth to the panel.

When all was said and done….

While getting all the card elements stamped, punched, embossed, matted, I briefly thought that all the patterns would overwhelm each other.  I don’t think that happened.  The daisies really toned down the pattern on the DSP.  The Rich Razzleberry background and sentiment give your eyes some place to rest.  The softly colored daisies pair well with the leaves  tucked under them so they just peek out.  Mini-dimensionals provided a bit of additional dimension to the daisies and the leaves.

I wasn’t sure I would be inspired for this challenge, but it all worked out; at least I think so.  What do you think?  Comments are always welcome!

Have a Peachy day!
